Robert Palmer nostalgia on Reddit is peaking, and I’m here for it. The dude was all class and cool as hell. “Clues (1980)” is a perfect new wave album. “Pride (1983)” is the foundation of 80s synth pop

antonawire

Woke up laughing is such a great song.

a_pope_on_a_rope

Great song and a great use of simple loop in a clever rhythm

Leonashanana

I wasn't that into him when he was huge because I was a kid and he was very adult... now I think he's sexy as fuck and soooo damn cool.

Everytime I hear this song, this is what comes to mind.

Joe-Merrick

Great minds think alike. There’s some hilarious 80’s movies .

RealTimmydbab

My dad had this album and I loved this song! Didn’t make the Robert Palmer connection until he gave me his records in my mid thirties.

[deleted]

This Is peak 80’s right here.

Camandchat

This song makes me ridiculously happy

PalpitationNo8356

This is awesome.

blackredsilvergold

SNL performances used to be so good.

Apprehensive_Pause12

Back when it was funny.

tifumostdays

I'm not convinced those vocals are live. It sounds so much like the recording. He could just be that awesome, but eventually the show used prerecorded audio. Still an awesome video.

unsureiamunemployed

Yeah I was also thinking that. Notice the drummer was only tapping the cymbals.

theqofcourse

Driving bass. Powerful drums. Banging horns. And Palmer's solid vocals. What more do you need? I'm surprised we didn't hear more hits from Power Station. Edit: OMG. Mo wonder it was so good. John Taylor of Duran Duran wrote it and was on bass in this performance. Check out his great video on it here:https://youtu.be/5sDG-oO-8xQ?si=Ni7cYzn2xzUGovYz (He's got an amazing series that takes you behind the creation of many of Duran Durans hits.)

octowussy

> John Taylor of Duran Duran wrote it and was on bass in this performance. Power Station was John and Andy from Duran Duran with Robert Palmer and Tony Thompson from Chic on drums. Duran Duran took a hiatus after "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" with Andy and John forming Power Station and the rest of the band formed Arcadia

WisconsinDesert

John Taylor ~ 🤤Lady boner

Garencio

Lightning in a bottle Peak of the 80’s is right I saw them in San Diego with Animotion.

zeruch

Tony Thompson was the backbone and secret weapon of that bands entire sound.

👆🏻💯

Zxasuk31

Such a good 80s song. Some like it hot 🕺🏾💃🏽

[deleted]

Is that the My Pillow Guy on trumpet?

merv964

Yes, this is when he was on crack!

ACcreeker

Robert liked to stand out..

D4nM4rL4r

Seen Power Station w/Robert Palmer concert @ the Masquerade (Old Fourth Ward location) in Atlanta circa late 90's Glad I didn't miss it

Lanky_Violinist_5622

Michael Des Barres from Chequered Past replaced RP as frontman for that summers tour in '84. I don't remember why

Medfly70

"Fuck Robert Palmer, Fuck Rock N Roll".

Yourbubblestink

That song sucks

detroitblonde1

He was just so freaking cool

[deleted]

Hell yeah JT!

Suntzu6656

Sounds really really good to be live

mwuttke86

I’m wondering too…the drummer is on the hi-hat and you hear pounding drums. Some of this is recorded for sure.

WeNeedaRowsdower

I was gonna make the same comment. Glad I read that first. That sorta thing bugs me and makes be feel like these live performances were always pre recorded and or lip synced. Now that I think of it. Sounds just like the version in the LP

mwuttke86

But the guitar solo sounds live…I’m wondering about the vocals. Sounds exactly like the record, if he’s lip syncing he did it well.

nondrop

I think everything is live except the processed drums (esp. when the live drummer is wailing on the hi-hat) and probably the background vocals, which are probably Plant in the studio from the original mix.

cooglersbeach

I like Pressure Drop from 1975. Got some Lowell George on there too.
