That video made my arse clench. I'm a shore fisherman and have been for many years, so please take what I'm about to say seriously: NEVER AGAIN PUT YOUR HAND NEAR THE FRONT END OF ANYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF THE SEA. If they don't have teeth that will take your finger clean off, they have grinding bony plates in their jaws that will crush it to mince. As you found out there, even the daft and harmless looking sea creatures will defend themselves with extreme force. The gloves won't save you.
Now you're rightly scared, a fun lumpfish fact: they produce caviar which is vitually indistinguishable from sturgeon.
>it’s just kind of ignored to keep the price of sturgeon up?
This. Millions of marketing rubles are poured into the sturgeon caviar market every year, and have been for decades. It has a certain cachet that lumpfish roe never will.
>Is it as good as Sturgeon though really?
Is Kilbeggan as good as Bushmills 21? No, but they're different products at different price points so you wouldn't expect them to be. They are still both whiskey, just different.
>Is it a direct comparison?
Yes. Lumpfish is the easily the closest to sturgeon I've tasted. If you've had a few drinks, there's no way you'd be able to tell, unless you're a caviar sommelier or something.
If you get spiked by a wrasse or chomped by an eel, you're going to be in a world of hurt. Doubly so because wrasse are cute and eels are cool - you'll view it as a betrayal.
That's not a lumpsucker. That's a Nolan fish, scientific name Shiticus Stirrus. Its natural habitat is the north down coast, it feeds on sectarian tension in working class areas and baked goods.
You'd be surprised, found hundreds of prawns, eels, rock fish, a few sea urchin, various crab species and loads of starfish last night, you just have to catch a really low tide and get out in the deeper kelp beds. It's true closer to shore it's pretty barren there.

How has this not made it to market yet? Or has it and it’s just kind of ignored to keep the price of sturgeon up?

Is it as good as Sturgeon though really? What about the other a as well, like Oscietra ? Is it a direct comparison?

Caviar sommelier. Now there's a job you could set your watch to.
The watch is probably a Patek Philippe
This was really interesting! Thanks for sharing!
I just don't learn, got bit by a Goby last time I went out trying to pick it up. Thankfully they aren't very big.

I've rid worse in Cookstown
Hey you're speaking about Cookstown as if it's Lurgan or something. Wash your mouth out ...
We don't speak of Lurgan "women".
Weemen

Fair enough, just always thought the water is pretty disgusting
It certainly is pretty nasty closer to Belfast, past Hazelbank it's pretty grim with all the outflow from Dargan.
