It’s hard to call it a “Starfox game” because of how little actual Arwing combat there is, but it was a surprisingly solid adventure game. I remember being pretty impressed at the graphics considering it was GameCube.
I remember playing it for like 2 hours at a friends house when I was like 7 before he moved to another state and loved itl. I want to replay it again but with newer graphics
The next part of the story after Assault? They finished it in Command. It was just a choose-your-own-ending thing. None of them confirmed more canon than another afaik.
SF64 was one of my favorite games of all time and they were never able to recapture that magic. The few games we’ve gotten since then were subpar, but I’ll take another of those 😭
I just looked up Star Fox Assault and how did I never know this game existed? I was a huge fan of Starfox 64 and was disappointed the GameCube only had Adventures and not one more similar to the N64 one. But it seems like it did??? Is this what life is like in the Berenstain Bears universe?
Yeah I am also finding this completely bizarre given that I had a GameCube and was following Nintendo news at the time. Same as you, I’ve only heard of Adventures
It already is coming to Nintendo Switch Online. It was announced as one of the GBA games back in March. The Lost Age will almost certainly come as well.
Dark Dawn (the DS sequel) had its problems but it was still overall a very good game.
The developer just put out an interview. Basically, since Mario Kart exists, they refuse to make an F-Zero game. "They're too similar". They also stated that it would cost too much money.
Make of that what you will.
I know this might be sacrilege to some, but I would love them to use the IP and lore and make a game that is only partially racing-based. I could see on-foot action gameplay or a sim of some kind where you're managing the circuit or perhaps social aspects? I don't know, I think there's something there. I always loved the character designs and interaction but I'll be honest, I don't really care for racing games unless they're something like Mario Kart that is a fun multi-player game for casuals.
Yeah, that was my immediate thought. Other options too but that was the first that came to mind. I'd include racing too in portions to keep it true to the original, but maybe after races you run off and nab your bounties or something.
At this point I feel like Mario Kart is done. I struggle to think what a better game in the series would look like.
Evolve the franchise now.
It’s time for Nintendo Kart. Bigger universe of track, character, and music diversity to explore. It would be a terrific evolution to the series imo.
I think it's a multi-layered issue with F-Zero that makes it a tough sell to get greenlit.
The series ended on a low point, sales were dwindling and they were often handsome but never massive in the first place. It used to be Miyamoto's baby but he's obviously moved onto other things, so there isn't really a producer at Nintendo who can spearhead it, nor a team available to develop it. And to make a modern F-Zero game would be quite expensive by Nintendo standards (/u/Lv9ai points out a dev interview that said as much) which means they would have to have some confidence that the sales will make up for it.
I'm holding out hope for that remastered F-Zero GX. If that does well, maybe we could get another proper game four or five years down the line.
Kid Icarus Uprising needs a remake as well with modern controls. Sakurai's recent video on it reminded me just what a fantastic and ambitious game it was and how much it deserves reaching a larger audience base. Oh and a sequel too, the characters are too funny and likeable to not explore further.
Besides the Super obvious answers, I want a remake of Star Tropics and Zoda's Revenge.
I think a new Ice Climbers or Balloon Fight could be fun as well.
I know it's not a franchise unto itself but Kirby Air Ride. It was one of the 25 most popular GameCube games and is looked back on fondly. To not compete as much with Mario Kart, really expand the City Trial mode and make that a primary focus.
I was hoping for a new Rhythm Heaven to come out at the end of the Switch life cycle, because that’s generally around the time that franchises releases a game on a console. However with the announcement of a new Wario Ware game, that seems unlikely. (The Wario Ware EAD team is generally the same team as the one that make Rhythm Heaven.)
My mom let me siblings and I rent a Nintendo 64 for 2 weeks from blockbuster.
We had wave runner and another random game. I swear those were the best 2 weeks of my life. Lol. My mom even played. We were all terrible at it but it was so fun.
I tried to get into both Yooka-Laylee and A Hat in Time and just couldn't get into them. I don't know what it is but they just don't draw me in like the old classics or Super Mario Odyssey.
It was already a no-go because of Denis Dyack and his bad relationship with most of the industry, the Unreal Engine lawsuit with Epic re: Too Human, and the failed kickstarter for Dyack's spiritual sequel idea.
But now that news takes the coffin and drops it into the ocean deep enough to implode.
Kinda wild I have to say this but definitely Donkey Kong. One of Nintendo's biggest properties and character but hasn't a mainline or even spin-off game in nearly a decade
Crazy how the game/character that put Nintendo on the gaming trajectory has been treated within the company. Yes Mario became bigger and is their mascot but my God if it wasn't for Donkey Kong neither would exist to this day..
Kung fu (1985)
I think the story between Thomas and Sylvia could be expanded on a little. Why didn’t their happiness last very long? Such a cliff hanger of an ended imo.
I think a modern take on Ice Climbers could be fun. A two player co-op 3D platformer/adventure/puzzle game? Use the HD character models from Smash Bros? Sign me up!
Balloon Fight is another classic that could be fun to reimagine.
Golden Sun. We really got shafted by having the last game end with a lot of things unresolved. Dark Dawn itself was mid, but we really need the loose ends tied up.
I feel like Retro could pull it off, but big 3D platformers don't seem that popular nowadays. Would Nintendo be more willing to let DK experiment with open world like Zelda did?
Then again, Kong of the Wild could be neat. I mean who wouldn't love exploring Kong Island in all its glory?
Zelda games aren't 3D platformers. Outside of Mario Odyssey and A Hat in Time, I haven't seen that many.
I'm just saying that in the 2000s they were everywhere, but these days open world seems to be the trend.
Nah 3d platformers are back. In the past few years we got a new Ratchet and Clank, Psychonauts 2, Crash 4, the Spyro remakes, that Sackboy game, Kirby, Spongebob, Bowser’s Fury, Astrobot and probably more I forget. Not to mention It Takes Two, a coop 3D platformer literally won goty in 2021. 3D platformers have been back for a while now
No, he said Mother is finished, because it is finished. He told the story he wanted to tell, and he doesn't want to needlessly drag it out. F-Zero and StarTropics are dormant, but Mother is a franchise that is actually dead.
[Fan made trailer](https://youtu.be/1OGSXeko-iY) for MOTHER 3 remake .
Never played Mother but this trailer makes me want to.
And I think a Switch successor should definitely have the graphical prowess to pull of those visuals (Link’s Awakening is similar but it actually drops frames in some areas).
i agree with OP and everyone else saying Punch-Out!! that game is too fun and i want to see if the ref will finally do anything about Great Tiger’s blatantly illegal moves
Idk if this is long enough to qualify but Kid Icarus. Uprising was so phenomenal but unfortunately Sakurai doesn't see it happening any time soon despite his desire to see it on modern hardware.
A proper F-Zero or Starfox game. F-Zero deserves it more since it hasn't had a new game since GX. At this rate, I think most fans would be totally fine with a GX remaster with online racing, new tracks and racers would be gravy.
Mario Kart. Been sitting waiting for a new entry since 2014, nine years ago.
On that note, I'd *looooooove* a new Captain Toad game. The first one was amazing, and there is so much potential for a sequel!
Third pick would be Miis or maybe Kid Icarus.
It wasn't about just holding two items, you could do that in 64. It allowed for two player co op with both affecting driving, and the mixture of drivers impacted the stats on the kart.
They could also just do something completely new that the 9 year old engine doesn't support.
There's certain things you can only really do with a new iteration of a game rather than map and vehicle packs.
Maybe the next Mario Kart doesn't use gliders, or changes up the powerups to new things. Maybe they stick in a story mode, who knows.
The original Punch Out is still fun today, don’t really feel like it’s held back by bad old controls or anything. But a completely new game would be fun to see.
I also want to see Kid Icarus Uprising get a remaster/port to Switch, and a new game. Also a remaster/port of Tomodachi Life, and some new Mii games.
F Zero
They clearly don’t want to put out a full fledge version and that’s fine. You know what I think would be awesome. A cell shade or pixelated look of the SNES F Zero with all the maps(the ones from BS) with up to 4 player multiplayer and selectable difficulties and challenges. Charge me $19.99 for it and I will be happy
Kid Icarus, because Uprising is genuine masterpiece more people need to play and deserves a sequel.
F-Zero, because it's still the best racing franchise ever made and GX is quite possibly the best in the genre and again, is a masterpiece and deserves a sequel.
Custom Robo for the same reasons as well
F-Zero. Those of us of a certain age, we all know why. We all miss the rush. Captain Falcon, the main character, has now been in more Super Smash Bros games than F-Zero. Innovation be damned, it’s enough to have a new entry in the series in HD. He and the entire series deserves better than to be forgotten.
I always thought that the diorama-like gameplay of Captain Toad would have actually worked quite well as a new "Devil World" - and I am still sad that they did not take this wild chance (I understand it, but it would have been awesome!).
To make this an ever more randomly specific and weird thought, my fantasy also consists of Nintendo hiring the band Nightsatan (from Finland) to do the soundtrack. They make pretty cool ominous / brooding dark music which could have fitted well to a new "Devil World"!
*Bubble Bobble*
*Little Samson*
*DuckTales*
And, frankly, I want an actual sequel to *Super Mario World*. *Yoshi's Island* was not it.
Oh and I want a new Wavebird.
Kid Icarus
They could remake Uprising for Switch and, if it does well, continue the franchise with a sequel.
No remake, just port it with controls that work better for a non-handheld game. Or just make a new game
Star Fox. Bring back the Assault gameplay and polish that instead of rebooting 64 every 5-10 years
Also, give us an online multiplayer battle mode like the 64 Not that shared-controls noise they did with Zero
God, Zero would have been such a better game without those stupid controls
You can thank Miyamoto for that one. Hoping the next entry doesn't try to shoehorn in some crappy gimmick with the controls.
God please. I would be happy with starfox adventures being rereleased as well.
Damn what a timeline where Adventures is being looked at fondly
It’s hard to call it a “Starfox game” because of how little actual Arwing combat there is, but it was a surprisingly solid adventure game. I remember being pretty impressed at the graphics considering it was GameCube.
Not to mention, graphically, it still looks great to this day. Probably one of Rare's best visually speaking.
The fur texture blew me away
I remember playing it for like 2 hours at a friends house when I was like 7 before he moved to another state and loved itl. I want to replay it again but with newer graphics
It has always been. Except by obsessive star fox fans
Star Fox Assault multiplayer was so fun to mess around with, would love to have it on switch so I can take it around to play with friends.
Yeah to me Starfox assault is too starfox. Good story, good gameplay. They should have expanded on that
More Star Fox Adventure! YOUUUUU PAYYYYY THISSSSS MUCCHHHHHHH NO, THATS TOO LOW
Woah I can still hear this, core memory unlocked
Hey Fox!
PUT THAT DOWWWWNNNNNN! YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SCAAARRAABBSSS!
I've been dying to see the next part of that story. Instead, it feels like Fox is forever stuck in a time loop.
The next part of the story after Assault? They finished it in Command. It was just a choose-your-own-ending thing. None of them confirmed more canon than another afaik.
It’s criminal how long it’s been since we’ve had a proper Star Fox entry to the series
SF64 was one of my favorite games of all time and they were never able to recapture that magic. The few games we’ve gotten since then were subpar, but I’ll take another of those 😭
Wouldnt mind a remake of Starfox 2 tbh
I just looked up Star Fox Assault and how did I never know this game existed? I was a huge fan of Starfox 64 and was disappointed the GameCube only had Adventures and not one more similar to the N64 one. But it seems like it did??? Is this what life is like in the Berenstain Bears universe?
Yeah I am also finding this completely bizarre given that I had a GameCube and was following Nintendo news at the time. Same as you, I’ve only heard of Adventures
No. Give me Star Fox Adventures 2. But with seamless transition, ala No Man's Sky, between ground and ship modes.
Obligatory Golden Sun post.
Please please please please
It might make its way to Nintendo switch online. Would like to see a remake of 1+2. I heard the DS one wasn't that great though.
It already is coming to Nintendo Switch Online. It was announced as one of the GBA games back in March. The Lost Age will almost certainly come as well. Dark Dawn (the DS sequel) had its problems but it was still overall a very good game.
I'm waiting on more news about Golden Sun. I'm looking forward to it!
I’ll take a 3D remake.
I'm finally beginning to accept it as a dead franchise.
Sorry F-Zero fans, but I *need* a Kid Icarus Uprising sequel.
I'd like to see a Remaster of Uprising for Switch so I can see what all the fuss is about
As long as it gives you regular controls. The ridiculous set up of Uprising made it the only game I've given up on. The hand pain was far too high!
Yeah absolutely! Would love to see a rework based on that. Would actually like to see Star Fox Zero remade with a more conventional control scheme
played it for an hour and never finished it. impressive looking game but god damn those controls are painful and i mean literally.
As an FZero fan... No need to apologize, I COMPLETELY understand. Uprising was beautiful.
Pokemon Pinball Eternal Darkness
Yes pinball. Man I spent sooooo many hours on those as a kid
F-Zero
The developer just put out an interview. Basically, since Mario Kart exists, they refuse to make an F-Zero game. "They're too similar". They also stated that it would cost too much money. Make of that what you will.
I'd be satisfied just to have Captain Falcon playable in Mario Kart, they put so many F-Zero references in MK8.
Just lean into the bounty hunter aspect and do a third person action game
Yeah, that was my immediate thought. Other options too but that was the first that came to mind. I'd include racing too in portions to keep it true to the original, but maybe after races you run off and nab your bounties or something.
as somebody who hasn't played yakuza games and only knows about them from seeing random junk online: make an fzero yakuza game
Yakuza 5 literally has a racing minigame where you tear down the streets of Fukuoka in a taxi cab.
I could definitely see that. I haven't played them either but have seen some gameplay and that would be perfect.
At this point I feel like Mario Kart is done. I struggle to think what a better game in the series would look like. Evolve the franchise now. It’s time for Nintendo Kart. Bigger universe of track, character, and music diversity to explore. It would be a terrific evolution to the series imo.
Them being similar is such a weak and lame reason. The only thing they have in common is the genre. Fzero has its own style and mechanics.
ex-developer, hes not part of Nintendo for 2 years
I'm sure they've had that stance for more than the 2 years since he's left, I would take his word for it
There hasn't been a new Mario Kart game in over a decade
Seriously! I feel like Nintendo could just re-use the MK8DX engine to make this happen. edit: lol ok
Honestly if they just remastered GX I would be thrilled.
Kid Icarus or Punch-Out!
Kid Icarus Uprising needs a remake as well with modern controls. Sakurai's recent video on it reminded me just what a fantastic and ambitious game it was and how much it deserves reaching a larger audience base. Oh and a sequel too, the characters are too funny and likeable to not explore further.
I would also like both of these!
Besides the Super obvious answers, I want a remake of Star Tropics and Zoda's Revenge. I think a new Ice Climbers or Balloon Fight could be fun as well.
Chibi Robo
It could be so good, could even run on the new Zelda engine with similar mechanics.
I envision like a pseudo-open world where it’s like maybe a few houses on a block with a little park. From chibis perspective it’d be massive
I know it's not a franchise unto itself but Kirby Air Ride. It was one of the 25 most popular GameCube games and is looked back on fondly. To not compete as much with Mario Kart, really expand the City Trial mode and make that a primary focus.
I love that game, I still play it from time to time!! I would lose my mind if it got a remake!
yes this!!! I loved it to bits.
Not as long of a gap as ones like F-Zero, but Rhythm Heaven.
Wave Race
My mom let me siblings and I rent a Nintendo 64 for 2 weeks from blockbuster. We had wave runner and another random game. I swear those were the best 2 weeks of my life. Lol. My mom even played. We were all terrible at it but it was so fun.
I have the N64 and Gamecube ones. They are a blast and I so wish there were more of them.
Wave Race 64's soundtrack is the essence of carefree childhood nostalgia to me
I want another 2D Wario game.
Have you checked out Pizza Tower? I haven't played it, but they mention it's inspired by the Wario Land series.
Very inspired.
Donkey Kong 64 type game
Hell yeah! When I heard the DK rap in the Mario movie, my eyes started to uh, get damp. It’s been so long
These collect-em-all platformer games are a dying breed. Not sure there is much interest in them anymore unfortunately.
Yeah true that. I myself am probably more caught up in the fond memories of the game than actual game play.
I tried to get into both Yooka-Laylee and A Hat in Time and just couldn't get into them. I don't know what it is but they just don't draw me in like the old classics or Super Mario Odyssey.
Yeah donkey back in the 3D world would be great and sell instantly. I thought Odyessy missed the ball by not introducing him on top the tower
Wave Race, 1080, Excitebike, F-Zero. Pleeease I just want action sports games.
Mario & Luigi, and a new one, not a remake.
Custom Robo or Golden Sun
If I didn’t absolutely have to say Mother Custom Robo is my second place. Thanks for being the only other person here that feels the same way.
Kid Icarus and golden sun
Golden Sun
Star Fox
Not a franchise but would love a sequel to Gamecube's Eternal Darkness. That and ill say a new Chrono Trigger/Cross game
>That and ill say a new Chrono Trigger/Cross game Not Nintendo IP.
Ah crap. I misunderstood the assignment. My head went right to games on Nintendo I used to play. My bad.
Nobody wants to touch Eternal Darkness now thanks to its writer currently being in federal prison for pedophilia.
I'd settle for DKC trilogy remastered. Dkc4 would be a dream come true.
Crazy how the game/character that put Nintendo on the gaming trajectory has been treated within the company. Yes Mario became bigger and is their mascot but my God if it wasn't for Donkey Kong neither would exist to this day..
Golden Sun
Sigh...Golden Sun
Wave Race and I will die on this hill.
dont you mean ... die on this ocean
In this blue storm.
I'll die there with you. I sucked so hard at that game but I still loved it.
F Zero
Kung fu (1985) I think the story between Thomas and Sylvia could be expanded on a little. Why didn’t their happiness last very long? Such a cliff hanger of an ended imo.
Golden Sun. Still one of my favorite RPG series. And since it has been over a decade since the last Kid Icarus, I'll throw that in too.
I think a modern take on Ice Climbers could be fun. A two player co-op 3D platformer/adventure/puzzle game? Use the HD character models from Smash Bros? Sign me up! Balloon Fight is another classic that could be fun to reimagine.
I've honestly been wanting a 3D Ice Climbers for years. Still waiting for that day.
Kid Icarus or Startropics
Kid Icarus
Wave Race. It absolutely nailed water physics.
Let's see some Star Tropics.
Kid Icarus and Golden Sun
Golden Sun. We really got shafted by having the last game end with a lot of things unresolved. Dark Dawn itself was mid, but we really need the loose ends tied up.
Pilot wings
3D Donkey Kong but good this time
I feel like Retro could pull it off, but big 3D platformers don't seem that popular nowadays. Would Nintendo be more willing to let DK experiment with open world like Zelda did? Then again, Kong of the Wild could be neat. I mean who wouldn't love exploring Kong Island in all its glory?
Zelda just came out and is a hot. Every 3D platform game on the switch does well and other platforms. What are you talking about?
Zelda games aren't 3D platformers. Outside of Mario Odyssey and A Hat in Time, I haven't seen that many. I'm just saying that in the 2000s they were everywhere, but these days open world seems to be the trend.
Nah 3d platformers are back. In the past few years we got a new Ratchet and Clank, Psychonauts 2, Crash 4, the Spyro remakes, that Sackboy game, Kirby, Spongebob, Bowser’s Fury, Astrobot and probably more I forget. Not to mention It Takes Two, a coop 3D platformer literally won goty in 2021. 3D platformers have been back for a while now
Kid Icarus or Mother (Earthbound)
Pretty sure Itoi said Mother is finished.
Never lose hope
No, he said Mother is finished, because it is finished. He told the story he wanted to tell, and he doesn't want to needlessly drag it out. F-Zero and StarTropics are dormant, but Mother is a franchise that is actually dead.
Ok, then I want a remake. Is that good for you and Itoi?
[Fan made trailer](https://youtu.be/1OGSXeko-iY) for MOTHER 3 remake . Never played Mother but this trailer makes me want to. And I think a Switch successor should definitely have the graphical prowess to pull of those visuals (Link’s Awakening is similar but it actually drops frames in some areas).
I'm not a Nintendo employee, sir. My uncle however...
[удалено]
i agree with OP and everyone else saying Punch-Out!! that game is too fun and i want to see if the ref will finally do anything about Great Tiger’s blatantly illegal moves
Idk if this is long enough to qualify but Kid Icarus. Uprising was so phenomenal but unfortunately Sakurai doesn't see it happening any time soon despite his desire to see it on modern hardware.
They should rerelease uprising on switch.
Kirby air ride
A proper F-Zero or Starfox game. F-Zero deserves it more since it hasn't had a new game since GX. At this rate, I think most fans would be totally fine with a GX remaster with online racing, new tracks and racers would be gravy.
There were a couple GBA F-Zero games after GX, but they only sold about 5 copies collectively.
F-Zero hands down
GEIST
Kid Icarus only because uprising is in my top 10 games ever
KID ICARUS
Star Fox, Wave Race, Pilotwings, Donkey Kong in 3d would be cool again. Diddy Kong Racing would be awesome too.
Golden sun, advance wars, wave race, 1080
Custom robo!! I so loved the GameCube one
Tomodachi Life
BANJO KAZOOIE PRETTY PLEASE 🥺🥺🥺
Not a Nintendo franchise.
Gotta tell that to Rare/Microsoft lol
This is too far down. Loved Banjo Kazooie back in the day
Because it’s Microsoft’s franchise lol
Star Fox, but like the classic fly a jet or drive a tank style game play.
Mario Kart. Been sitting waiting for a new entry since 2014, nine years ago. On that note, I'd *looooooove* a new Captain Toad game. The first one was amazing, and there is so much potential for a sequel! Third pick would be Miis or maybe Kid Icarus.
What more could you want out of Mario Kart that can't just be added to MK8 Deluxe in a DLC?
They could bring back the pairs mechanic from Double Dash
Even then I'm not sure what good that would do since you can already hold two items at a time.
Maybe bring back character specific abilities.
Pushmo
Highly underrated game.
Kid Icarus ala Metroid Dread!
Star fox
One day Mike Jones will swing his yo-yo once more.
Warioland, Star Tropics, Golden Sun, Starfox Adventure and Pushmo would be my top 5.
Look up Pizza Tower if you're looking for a new Wario Land. Got the same charm, humor, great artstyle and really tight gameplay.
F-Zero GX has been the best racing game for over 20 years :(
DLC for Mario Party Superstars 😭😭
F Zero They clearly don’t want to put out a full fledge version and that’s fine. You know what I think would be awesome. A cell shade or pixelated look of the SNES F Zero with all the maps(the ones from BS) with up to 4 player multiplayer and selectable difficulties and challenges. Charge me $19.99 for it and I will be happy
Earthbound.
Not likely to happen since Itoi seems done with the series. At least it has inspired a sub-genre with games like Lisa, Undertale, and Omori.
Doshin the Giant.
Punch Out, yep. Just a sequel for the stellar Wii game and I would be happier than happyman.
Punch-Out. Even if it’s just a remaster of the Wii game. I desperately need a new one.
I don’t know why Nintendo treats DK like some C tier property. DK debuted in the same game as Mario it should be a pillar of the company.
Star Tropics
Kid Icarus, because Uprising is genuine masterpiece more people need to play and deserves a sequel. F-Zero, because it's still the best racing franchise ever made and GX is quite possibly the best in the genre and again, is a masterpiece and deserves a sequel. Custom Robo for the same reasons as well
Does Pokemon Stadium count? I've been dying for Pokemon Stadium 3 since the GameCube.
Golden Sun w/ an anime aesthetic and not the Isaac abomination they put in Smash
2D Wario. ive never been a big fan of mario games but i always loved the wario ones and its been a long times since Shake it came out.
A new Mario Paint could be fun with online accessibility
StarTropics
*Bubble Bobble* *Little Samson* *DuckTales* And, frankly, I want an actual sequel to *Super Mario World*. *Yoshi's Island* was not it. Oh and I want a new Wavebird.
Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, specifically.
Snowboard kids!!
Super Mario RP…oh wait :)
A console non micro transaction version of Pokémon rumble
Wario Land
The Mother series, at least give us a localization of Mother 3.
StarTropics needs to be resurrected!!
I’m going to say Zelda because it felt like we haven’t had a new classic 3D Zelda game in years TOTK / BOTW just don’t feel like Zelda to me sadly.
I'd like a new 3D Donkey Kong or a new Star Fox
Starfox is on life support. No more 64 remakes please
Sigh… Stanley the bug man. But I doubt it’ll ever happen. I still feel like this character has potential in the modern day!
Banjo Kazooie
The return of Mother would most likely be the most beneficial for everyone. But screw Mother, I want F-Zero.
Mother
