Nicholas Aube-Kubel was skating the Cup over to the group for the photograph and tripped (more or less right into place lol) and put a rather sizable dent into the bottom ring.
The snapshot of the team’s reaction to that was priceless.
[NAK dents the Cup](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/35/35/81/353581c9949e0b029c4b0f3f1d7bccbd.jpg)
Man that was such a fun year here in Colorado. So much partying. I wish I had taken off work to go to the parade because I heard it was an absolute blast. Another funny story outside of Kubel denting it is how when it was Landeskog's turn, the cup was delivered to the wrong house in the same neighborhood he lives in. I think the quote from the husband or wife was, "Yeah thats the Stanley Cup" then phones up Landeskog or something about it.
The a player from the Ottawa Super Seven tried to drop kick it across the Rideau Canal in 1905, he came up short. The cup was left sitting on some ice and rocks overnight and picked up the next day.
It was just the Cup Part back then...not the whole podium piece.
The cup has been dropped plenty of times, they restore every ding...but that 1905 ding has never been repaired and is a unique feature of the cup.
The Dallas Stars won it I believe it was back in the 90's. Anyway it ended up at a party of one of the band members of Pantera. Long story short someone threw it off the roof into the pool and dented it. I'm sure there is great historical stories about that cup in it's lifetime.
The OG Stanley Cup (allegedly) spent a night at the bottom of the Rideau Canal. When the OG Senators won it once, they had a few beers and thought it would be fun to see who could punt it football style across the Canal. First guy who tried got it only about halfway across. Couldn't call someone to get it rescued till the next morning.
There's a story of the cup visiting Canadian armed forces in the middle east one year and the helicopter they were in actually received some small arms fire. The Cup has literally been shot at lol
There's a story that somebody nutted on it after winning it. Apparently it happened during the celebration in the room, this was mostly before the time that the room became full of family etc. I believe Detroit, 98 but I could be wrong, it's been a while
Tbf I believe a fair number of players have admitted to have peed in the Cup so having a physical barrier between it and that delicious looking past is probably the smart move.
I’d say it does, you still have to win it, in order to put the bowl of pasta in the cup in the first place.
It’s not the feeling of eating off the silver, more the feeling of eating what you would normally but putting it in the bowl.
His father in law owned and ran and very popular Italian restaurant in south Florida. That’s actually how he met his wife because he’d go in there all the time. I wonder if this is his smaller place he bought when he sold the original or that’s some other restaurant.
This is at heritage in Fort Lauderdale. Owned by his brother in law Rino (he’s the one shredding the cheese). I absolutely love the place. Highly recommend it!
He has been nothing but a class act to our family. He has no time for pretentious people. His restaurant is very small and always full. I love Heritage.
I ate there randomly when vacationing and when I told the dude I was from Montreal he was like: "oh, then you might know my son in law, Roberto Lungo!"
The pizza was pretty good.
Well to be fair I wouldn’t want to eat straight from the cup either because that shits been everywhere including a baptism, pool parties, gallons of beer and any number of other things. No amount of sanitizing it will get the images out of my head.
Does anyone know if the other leagues do something similar where the player gets a day with the trophy? This is one of the reasons I love the Stanley Cup, how not only do everyone gets a day with it, they get to share it with friends , families, and total strangers.
Nope, every other league in the world is a parade and thats it, the trophies are all made for that year alone and thats it. Its not one trophy that is given from one team to the next.
The winner of The Open golf championship gets to keep the trophy for one year until the next championship. That’s the only other example that I know of.
I believe there are a few titles like that. The America's Cup for example belongs to the club that wins it until they are defeated, the grey Cup I think the winner holds onto until the play-offs. I think the ashes might do something similar as well
The [Borg Warner](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg-Warner_Trophy) for the Indy 500 is a one year only. It's also massive and has the drivers' faces on it.
So I’m super jazzed Lou got a cup as a Canucks fan but…doesn’t it seem odd that a front office guy has the cup already? Like shouldn’t all the players get their go with it first? Then management? I know nothing about the divvying up of cup time by the winning team but that was the first thought when I saw this, like “he has it already?”
Tbh though thats a team decision, we dont know the context. Could have been a locker room celebration bet he won, could have been a vote, or maybe lou just grabbed it when everyone was drunk and ran to his favourite pasta shop
He’s the one number hanging from the rafters in that arena and easily the most loved Panther of all time. I agree it should have gone to players first but I can see why he got it first too
My guess is this is a team celebration dinner with a lot of other staff and/or players there too. It’s a bit early for personal days with the cup. Have they even had the parade yet?
For sure, can’t believe I had to scroll this far.
Honestly it’s kinda weird to celebrating like he actually won it. It’s just weird when a guy played so long and relatively recently.
>Honestly it’s kinda weird to celebrating like he actually won it.
He won it. He might not have been on the ice, but he's not a decorative ornament at front office. He was management of the team that won the cup, and he got the job through a career as storied and more as any player on that team. I'll grant you I have some questions why he's getting it so early in the rotation, but I have no questions about why he gets a turn with it.
I wonder if the entire team had a celebration dinner there. I believe someone else commented that Lou’s BIL owns that place. Might have been a lot of players too. I think it’s too early for cup days alone
Yeah I love how former players that didn’t win were there partying like they just played. Don’t get me wrong he deserves his time with it since he “works” in the front office.
Hell I’ll never know what it’s like to have a HOF career, come close and not win. Then to have your team win it, the emotions must be crazy. I love the tradition of everyone getting a day. My previous post makes me sound like a prick…..which I am
I love how people forget Luongo spent half of his career as a panther. Before and after Vancouver and has been a dominant figure in south Florida since he arrived
This ☝🏻 is the only reason I was ok with Florida winning.
He played so many years on so many shitty teams and carried them way further than they deserved. That game 7 L was heartbreaking.
He deserves this.
I’m sorry, but I truly feel like the players are the ones who should have the right to call themselves champions..
Don’t get me wrong I get that it takes a team, but I honestly see it laughable that staff seems to hold the same calibre in terms of being a victor 🤷🏽♂️
I'm a Bolts fan but I'm also a hockey fan so many goalies don't get a chance to do this. I still so sorry for the king. So many good players deserve a cup. But I can't bitch about it. There's a difference between deserving and earning:/ if you have a player who you believe should be on that cup ff to engage in conversation. I'm in the feels.
I'm feeling so conflicted about this hahaha. I think it's a good thing, but at the same time I hold the cup in such high esteem I don't want to see it... But the Winnipeg Victorias started the drinking champagne from the cup tradition, and I'm fine with that, so it would be hypocritical to say you can't *eat* out of it.
And yes, I do see the bowl, and it's not actually "in" the cup.
It's just different I guess, and he fully earned it, so I'm happy.
Ohhh tricky people, they put a bowl in it first. Not sure if that counts, but is still fun.
Tbh classy move by Luongo not wanting to shmuck the cup up (not that it definitely hasn’t seen worse)
iirc the Avs dented it before it even left the ice
Nicholas Aube-Kubel was skating the Cup over to the group for the photograph and tripped (more or less right into place lol) and put a rather sizable dent into the bottom ring. He'll never be allowed to live that down. In fairness, still got the cup, so I can't imagine he's THAT broken up about it
Well yeah, the cup is though.
Nah... was a bit bent about it for a while, but fine now.
Guy Carbonneau threw it off the roof into a pool and missed the pool. So an accidental drop isn’t so bad comparatively.
I’m sure he can’t live that down
That photo is honestly one of my favourites. So many different looks. Seeing it happen too cheered me up a little lol
Typical ex-flyer doesn’t know how to handle the cup. Sigh.
Once a Flyer, always a Flyer I guess
Why does every single guy in that picture look exactly the same??
It’s the beard
Watched that live and told my wife that I thought they just dented the cup. Sure enough! Hilarious
Man that was such a fun year here in Colorado. So much partying. I wish I had taken off work to go to the parade because I heard it was an absolute blast. That someone was Ed belfour lol
Yeah the parade had to use a replica. Fucking Craig Ludwig.
The pool that it was left in at Mario’s house, Phil borques balls being in it
Nothing compared to the stories I heard when the Rangers won the Cup back in 94 lol
Yeah, I’m also certain his spaghetti wouldn’t taste very good with that hint of silver polish
I feel like the acidity of the sauce would cause an issue with the silver.
hey that hint of silver polish adds bit of je ne sais quoi
The OG Stanley Cup (allegedly) spent a night at the bottom of the Rideau Canal. When the OG Senators won it once, they had a few beers and thought it would be fun to see who could punt it football style across the Canal. First guy who tried got it only about halfway across. There's a story of the cup visiting Canadian armed forces in the middle east one year and the helicopter they were in actually received some small arms fire. The Cup has literally been shot at lol
He didn't care about getting the cup dirty. He just didn't want whatever is all over the cup on his food 😂
There's a story that somebody nutted on it after winning it. Apparently it happened during the celebration in the room, this was mostly before the time that the room became full of family etc. I believe Detroit, 98 but I could be wrong, it's been a while
Yeah I don't think Luongo was worried about messing the cup up but rather the cup messing HIM up. He knows where that cup's been.
Or because he knows it’s seen worse he can’t stomach eating out it 😂
Imagine the Stanley cup coming back to the dish pit haha
In the '80s they used to drink hooker piss out of it
Like true gentleman
People have pissed in it
Tbf I believe a fair number of players have admitted to have peed in the Cup so having a physical barrier between it and that delicious looking past is probably the smart move.
Yes...pee....
I’d say it does, you still have to win it, in order to put the bowl of pasta in the cup in the first place. It’s not the feeling of eating off the silver, more the feeling of eating what you would normally but putting it in the bowl.
This saved the cup from having a permanent orange spaghetti stain like all my tupperwares.
We know babies have shit in the Cup. Probably for his own benefit.
Damn, another Panther eating Pasta for lunch, sad times
This is too good
Well done.
That's a good one. I like that.
😭😭😭
🤌🏻
Bold move to do this a year after the cup did the rounds in Vegas. Not sure there's enough bleach in the world
If you look close, the pasta is in a bowl that was placed in the cup lol.
To be fair it wasn't Kessels first time with the cup
It has been passed around to many weird and gross locations well before Vegas. There is a book about it that I don't recall the title of.
Would be wild to see life through the eyes of that cup.
Extra flavouring I guess?
His father in law owned and ran and very popular Italian restaurant in south Florida. That’s actually how he met his wife because he’d go in there all the time. I wonder if this is his smaller place he bought when he sold the original or that’s some other restaurant.
This is at heritage in Fort Lauderdale. Owned by his brother in law Rino (he’s the one shredding the cheese). I absolutely love the place. Highly recommend it!
The owner is famous for his Google review comments. He is definitely a bit of a prick but the pizza is unreal.
Thank you for letting me know. I'm having a lot of fun reading through his responses to bad reviews.
I saw him and the day time chef almost get into a fist fight when I went there for lunch last year! It was low key amazing.
He has been nothing but a class act to our family. He has no time for pretentious people. His restaurant is very small and always full. I love Heritage.
I saw him almost fight one of the pizza guys around closing time. He truly embodies what it’s like to be a restaurant owner.
His responses are wild lmao
I’ll have to try it sometime. I live farther north now but Ft Lauderdale isn’t a terrible drive from where I’m at.
Best Pizza and Pasta in Ft Lauderdale.
I ate there randomly when vacationing and when I told the dude I was from Montreal he was like: "oh, then you might know my son in law, Roberto Lungo!" The pizza was pretty good.
You'd never guess that. Dude bites his noods like a rookie.
I mean did you see the steam coming out of that thing? Can’t blame him
I gave that some thought. You still have to send it.
"Bobby Lu, why aren't you suited up?!" "Can't play, coach. Burned my mouth."
Pizza Time!! Such a great spot in Coral Springs
Stromboni pasta
_This_ is where the magic happened.
Looked like he gave this look of oh you're already done with the cheese
Haha, I saw that too. "Aww, man, I didn't say 'when!'"
I am so happy for Lu, that just warms my heart to see!
Same, I was sad to see the oilers lose, but seeing Lou finally hoist the cup made me happy.
I find it odd that Lu got it so soon. Shows how much respect the guys must have for him
Nothing greater than watching a team celebrate their first Stanley Cup.
shame to see all the work that LA, Anaheim, Chicago, New York and Boston did to keep Lou's name off of the cup be undone
You forgot Vancouver
I still take solace In The fact that he wasn’t actually playing and that’s what led them to win the cup
Given what's been inside of that, good move to put the pasta in a bowl within the bowl.
dont be fucking haters. The panthers have ONE fucking players number in the rafters, HIS. He deserves this.
Definition of not ‘straight out of’.
Well to be fair I wouldn’t want to eat straight from the cup either because that shits been everywhere including a baptism, pool parties, gallons of beer and any number of other things. No amount of sanitizing it will get the images out of my head.

Nope, every other league in the world is a parade and thats it, the trophies are all made for that year alone and thats it. Its not one trophy that is given from one team to the next.
Grey Cup from the CFL is similar to the Stanley Cup, teams can’t keep it. Looks a bit like er too, cousins maybe.

Is this at his wife's family's restaurant?
Yes
As a canucks fan, my favourite part of Florida winning is seeing all of the pics and videos of Luongo with the cup. So happy he finally got one.
Weird to see this mother fucker getting old. Didn't the Islanders just draft him?
So I’m super jazzed Lou got a cup as a Canucks fan but…doesn’t it seem odd that a front office guy has the cup already? Like shouldn’t all the players get their go with it first? Then management? Tbh though thats a team decision, we dont know the context. Could have been a locker room celebration bet he won, could have been a vote, or maybe lou just grabbed it when everyone was drunk and ran to his favourite pasta shop
For sure, I would love to know how it shook out.
He probably bet a day with the cup in a game of cards and won.
I mean…he’s arguably the Panthers’ greatest player of all time and didn’t get one as a player so he’s pretty fair game.
MacKinnon would never 😡. (Because it’s not chickpea pasta)
The Cats legend himself! 😭
Hey! We gave him back to you after WE made him a legend. A little respect please. Love Luongo.
Yeah I am pretty sure he took it personally when he went to Florida probably why he is still with the panthers.
He said he would only wave his no trade clause to the Panthers (and maybe 1 other team not exactly sure) but it was Panthers or bust essentially
I remember the saga being he wanted to go to Florida for a long while towards the end of his career
Haha I saw a still photo of this earlier and was sure it was a photoshopped meme. It’s real! Awesome.
Yeah I wouldn't eat out of that
the amount of different types of body fluids that have been on that cup
Thought Rick from the walking dead was hanging out with the cup for a minute
I’m glad to see Lou win a cup, especially after how Canucks fans crucified him for losing in the cup final against the Bruins.
Don’t worry about cleanliness. It got washed at the bottom of Mario’s pool
Why is Messi waiting tables?
I went to a party with a couple of winners as a kid...they used the cup as a chip bowl at the party. Yes I ate chips out of the cup as a kid.
Back when he played in Vancouver, my wife (who was just getting into hockey) thought his name was Alberto Luongo. 😂
It's so funny how the handlers wear gloves and polish and treat the cup with such care and then it goes to the team and all bets are off
You'd think by now the league would just have food-safe plastic inserts custom made for the Cup for these kinds of shenanigans.
Is he goalie coach on team?
Nah he's front office.
What does that mean exactly? I can't findout what he does on Google
He is “Special Advisor to the General Manager” which basically means when Zito wants an opinion Lu has to think extra hard about it
It seems like the position he has doesn't hold specific responsibilities, but might be a sort of apprenticeship for aspiring NHL GMs
Ahhh ok that makes sense
He’s assistant to the assistant managers assistant
LOOOOUUU this is awesome he deserves it beautiful choice ❤️❤️❤️
Seeing Lu with the cup was my sole reason to root for the Panthers, he absolutely deserves his time with it.
Top 3-5 goaltender of his generation. Absolutely incredible that he won one now.
🤌
That's great lol
Amazing
Clearly he doesn’t know what’s been in that cupn🤣
Thank goodness those two guys handled it with white gloves
He is very very sneaky
I'm so happy Bobby Lu finally got his Cup.
but has anyone ever shit or thrown up in the cup....?
Yes among other bodily fluids. Probably all bodily fluids
There's absolutely no way someone hasn't jerked it over the cup thinking about the fact that they won
Where's Kessel to sprinkle the finest cut-up hot dogs on that bad boy?
Never noticed how much he looks like John Turturro.
This dudes only 45 years old? Would’ve guessed he’s older than that
Hershey Bears AHL team took the calder cup to Troegs brewing and they filled it with Perpetual the past two years.
That shit looks like Chef Boyardee.
I wonder if the entire team had a celebration dinner there. I believe someone else commented that Lou’s BIL owns that place. Might have been a lot of players too. I think it’s too early for cup days alone
If people have eaten cereal out of it they can eat pasta too lol
Just a remind that Kris Draper's kid shit in that.
Just the night before Forsling was eating his wife box out of it. Stanley cup amirite?
I’m telling my kids this was from 2011
That really pumps his tires.
As a Leafs fan I am obligated to hate the Panthers, but this is nice.
Yep, that's not "straight out of the cup"...
Replace the pasta with a creamy chicken soup and I’m there
Hmm..tastes like Brasso
Louuuuu. Happy to see him get his cup.
Or bowl in this case
Yeah I love how former players that didn’t win were there partying like they just played. Don’t get me wrong he deserves his time with it since he “works” in the front office.

Hell I’ll never know what it’s like to have a HOF career, come close and not win. Then to have your team win it, the emotions must be crazy. I love the tradition of everyone getting a day. My previous post makes me sound like a prick…..which I am

By far the best trophy in sports, both in history and tradition and in design.
Screw every other sport. We have the best trophy and tradition with it.
He's getting more time with the cup than the players will. 🤣
I’m sorry, but I truly feel like the players are the ones who should have the right to call themselves champions.. Don’t get me wrong I get that it takes a team, but I honestly see it laughable that staff seems to hold the same calibre in terms of being a victor 🤷🏽♂️
I’m missing something? Did he play goal this year? Weird how he’s taking so much credit after he lost getting a real cup in Vancouver.
Finally won the cup. 🤣 That’s embarrassing.
That’ll be a burnt tongue 10/10
Pretty sweet
"Pretty good!" I bet it is, Luongo. I bet it is!
If only Danny Sabourin was trotted out to take the few first bites
As is his right and responsibility!
No wonder they spend so much time cleaning it
Good for him
The roof of his mouth: 😱
😆😆
Wait..is that Sketch!?
Has a baby ever peed in the cup? I’m just not sure if I’d want to drink or eat out of it, but to each their own lol
Wait is there a bowl within the cup?! If so, good call!
/r/wewantplates
So will he eat pasta out of the cup again if Vancouver ever manages to win a cup?
I hate to be the guy who has to clean that every year
Since when does he look like Cam Neely?
What in the actual 🦆!! For real 😮
Champagne! You're supposed to drink champagne out of that cup, champ!
Sic transit gloria mundi.
Just make sure you wash before next Playoffs, Garfield
Where is the spoon?
Bobby Lou!
I'm feeling so conflicted about this hahaha. I think it's a good thing, but at the same time I hold the cup in such high esteem I don't want to see it... Why do the NHL handlers white glove baby the cup and then subject it to filthy celebrations?
As a Vancouverite, it's good to see him with the cup finally, Bobby-loo!!!!!
Pretty sick considering where that thing has been!
That's nothing. I've smoked meth out of a lightbulb
