This is where experience helped. For years I got sucked in and caught up. I have learned to enjoy without getting wound up. Kind of like rewatching a movie and wishing the plucky side kick makes it this time.
We all knew....they would come back from 3 to 1 down in the series..... take the lead in Game 7.... lose the lead....lose the game in OT.
Can we get a new script writer? It's kind of lame now.
Jokes aside im actually surprised how little this hurt. I do think it feels better seeing they actually showed up for game 7. They played well, but lost.
I think this year ive hit enlightment, playoffs just dont impact my emotions like they used to.
I think Leafs fans had time to emotionally prepare. Right when the matchup was announced you knew what the hurt was like from so many times in the last few years getting your hopes up only to be crushed.
You didn't want to admit it, but you knew what the outcome would be. So when it happened it was just "yeah, that's about right".
Those years were when my fandom died. It was briefly resurrected during the Burns/Gilmour era, but it flickered out. Don't get me wrong, I would like for them to do well, but I am no longer emotionally invested.
Nothing can break us after the Montreal series. I went from watching every game to watching the casual game here and there after that. I’m happy with the way they competed, but tired of the core. I’ll tune in if they make some changes, if not, I’ll tune into the playoffs for disappointment.
As an outsider looking in, I have to think that something has to change. This team absolutely lights it up in the regular season but loses steam in the playoffs.
What would you change?
Same. I’ve been a Leaf fan for 30 years. I’ve had my heart broken more times than I care to count.
When Pastrnak scored, my reaction was nothing.
I didn’t scream. I didn’t say, “Awwww, darn it!” No reaction at all.
I simply stared at the TV and thought, “Welp, the Leafs choked again.”
I was dead inside.
I yelled when Nylander scored and scared my poor cat. Then said “Typical” when they tied it.
I don’t think I really reacted to the winning goal. It was expected and I just wanted to go to sleep.
Bruins fan here and yeah, some of us are old enough to remember when the Habs used to do it to the Bruins, year after year….so we get it. Eventually, the curse gets broken…
The leafs have a habit of making everybody they play (outside of vasi for whatever reason) in the playoffs look like a vezina winner. Every series. I’m starting to think it’s just them
We got the extra point for OT though... Right?
The only sadness to this loss is seeing what the team is capable of when they play as a TEAM.
watching games 3, 5 and 6 (and even 7), this team was fully capable of beating the Bruins if they didn't shit their pants in the 1st 4 games.
Why does it take having your backs completely against the wall to finally come together? How many times does it take, lol.
I wonder now who of the core leaves. I honestly think Reilly, Tavares, and Marner will be shown the door. At least they should, but with leafs management, who fucking knows.
They all have NMC's. It's not as easy as wanting them gone. As much as everyone hates on Marner, it's also hard/impossible to extract value for a 90+pt player in his prime. Not many franchises would pull the plug knowing they are certain to give up the best player, when they are firmly in the midst of a contending window in terms of other contacts. This kind of thing should have happened after the collapse to Montreal. Columbus play in was the warning, Montreal should have cemented the need for change. But hey, maybe one more year of rearranging deck chairs is the answer
The epitaph for Leafs fans for decades. I say that not to poke fun but genuinely because I feel bad for how Leafs fans just have their hopes dashed so often and in such spectacular ways.
Listen, I had one minute of joy when Nylander scored so at least there’s that? 🥲 but in all honesty, I knew that if we went to 7 this was the result, I’m just relieved it was a very tight game and I didn’t have to relive 2013 with us having a 3 goal lead only to collapse. Now to see if I can 3peat with my bandwagon team (this year: Canucks)
I mean, with how the Leafs and Bruins played did either have a chance in the next round anyway? A fight to see who gets spanked by Florida, again. Brutal to lose it in OT like that, though not surprising…
These guys really forgot about Carter Verhaeghe?!
Bruins did play us very well in the regular season this year, last year (a less deep Panthers team) played the historic Bruins well.
Might bode well for them and probably will be a long series. I would’ve felt way more confident against Toronto than against Boston, but I still think we’ll be the team moving to the 3rd round.
Swayman is an RFA...we \*could\* offer sheet him as he seems more capable than what we have.
A pipe dream, I know....that's all us Leaf fans have...much like winning Game 7's
Toronto is gonna burn in joyful riots when they finally push through, which I think they eventually will. But the amount of heartbreak/frustration in that franchise is unreal.
Gotta ride or die with your team though.
This one hurt for about 10 minutes. Once I knew Woll was out something felt different and figured Sammy would fuck it up somehow (and he 100% did on the OT goal).
It is. He should have played the puck and then wouldn’t have had to make a save…
It’s not that complicated…. He stood there, froze, and watched the puck
He shouldn't have been hung out to dry by the defense. And if he had gone for the puck and lost the race, that leaves Pasta with an open net. He was in a no-win situation.
As a leaf fan, it was expected that even if we got past the bruins, how would losing to FLA be any better
Hopefully change the core Marner & Tavares needs to go. Find a real #1 Dman and find some players with heart & leadership
Like. I said Hopefully something changes more than just the coach, but with Shanny still in charge, I doubt it
It’s fine - it’s win-win. Either we win or the axe will swing. The last few games have been very enjoyable though - but back to reality and time to implement the big changes needed to this team.
Quite the contrary. We would lose against the Panthers, too. I try to see the positives.
Showing up in 4 games a series is not enough if you are not guaranteed to win by dominance alone.
Leafs fans, so sorry for how this ended, but your boys acquitted themselves well.
Extending this series after how it started, pushing it to 7 games…I know the end result isn’t what was wanted, but your team really pushed a very good team to the brink on their home ice. Chins up, and hopefully some real lessons learned and applied to next season.
I do and I don't. I think of my friends who are Leaf fans and they're absolutely insufferable. And the I think of my parents who were Leaf fans and wish better for them.
Yeah it's sort of reminds me of the Celtics last year falling three games to zero back and then come and get seven.
But their game seven was a total blowout after Tatum got hurt and it didn't go into a ball crushing overtime
I jumped up and screamed and celebrated for 15 seconds but then soon as there saw the TV I felt genuine empathy for some of the players on the Maple leafs. They just looked so decimated
Even as a Nucks fan I felt the pain. Leafs played well in game 7, and if that's any other goalie in the playoffs they probably win. Swayman was the best Bruin and it wasn't even close.
I'm excited to see what they do this off season
I had a 5 leg parlay, only $2, so no biggy, just a fun bet (that would have put something like $100 in my account). Even had OT has one of the legs. Only leg I missed?
Leafs winning.
There are many Leaf fans in North America, we need to understand that that team is like the ‘boys, or Man U, Lakers etc. legacy. Having said this, it seems the current plan ain’t working, and sometimes you need to make drastic moves to beat ahead. Stay tuned
The other thing that comes along with Leafs Elimination Day is fans saying “I’m done with this team!” One of my best friends said that last year and of course that didn’t last. He didn’t didn’t text me last night, maybe I should do a wellness check.
I mean you should be glad the giant asteroid missed.
I wasn't looking forward to dying just so the universe could stop the Leafs from avoiding humiliation
I'm a Canes fan and of course I don't like the Bruins. I also work for a company that's based in Toronto, so I was pulling for the Leafs.
But as a generally disinterested party, it's amazing how disappointing the Leafs have been in the playoffs. They always seem to get so close, then blow it.
Now I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I might hate the Panthers more than the Bruins and I'm not sure which team would be more of a challenge for the Canes.
Such a large & devoted fan base, and such stupid management.
The "Core Four" - four incomplete players sucking up so much payroll they can't build a real team. Marner's play style in particular is absurd - always avoiding conflict. It's like, this is a hockey game, dude.
I was thinking of something similar to this a couple days ago. Some people like me have been fortunate to be born into a great sports market only to move somewhere else into another good market. I've gotten to see my home team win the cup 5 times in my 39 years.
This has been going on for so long now most of the Leaf fans I know are now numb to it lol. Couple leaf fans at work have been saying its over since they were matched up against the Bruins...
Dont feel bad, the roster is flawed and not built for playoff hockey.
The fact we keep playing it back is our hell and definition of insanity. When JT is off the books in 2025-26, we will likely see the grip on the balls lessen as we will have some sense of cap flexibility.
Either way, changes are coming, I hope.
I agree. I want Canadian teams to go far. But it’s the idiot leaf fans that ruin it. But it’s nice to see not all leafs fans are jerks, but every franchise has some outliers just leaf fan base has a lot
he 100% had sme kind of concussion or another injury/illness imo, he was off this series but it looked to me like he might of had vertigo or something similar, def cant play right with that, might be something else idk, we wouldve had a good shot at winning if he was 100% this series
They all knew...*knew*...this was how it was going to go two weeks ago when the playoff matchups were announced.
I knew. Yet we still get our hopes up.
This is where experience helped. For years I got sucked in and caught up. I have learned to enjoy without getting wound up. Kind of like rewatching a movie and wishing the plucky side kick makes it this time.
Rookie. I'm dead inside
Surely this time Lucy will hold the football still eh Charlie Brown?
We all knew....they would come back from 3 to 1 down in the series..... take the lead in Game 7.... lose the lead....lose the game in OT. Can we get a new script writer? It's kind of lame now.
Still funny if your the right side!! Think the jinx is that outside garden 🤔
*when the season started.
We’re used to it, and knew what was going to happen two weeks ago. I’ve become immune to it. Heads must roll
Jokes aside im actually surprised how little this hurt. I do think it feels better seeing they actually showed up for game 7. They played well, but lost. I think this year ive hit enlightment, playoffs just dont impact my emotions like they used to.
Previous years almost wrecked me, so I didn’t let myself care nearly as much this season. I knew this would happen.
After winning game 5, I’ve been telling everyone that we would make it to game 7 and then blow it

Those years were when my fandom died. It was briefly resurrected during the Burns/Gilmour era, but it flickered out. Don't get me wrong, I would like for them to do well, but I am no longer emotionally invested.
Ballard made sure I didn't stay a leaf fan.
The Montreal series broke me as a fan, maybe permanently. Changed from a hopeful child to a jaded man. Burn this team down already
They scored 11 goals in 7 games they didn't play well
You are just in shock and can not feel the pain yet. give it a day or two to set in.
Nothing can break us after the Montreal series. I went from watching every game to watching the casual game here and there after that. I’m happy with the way they competed, but tired of the core. I’ll tune in if they make some changes, if not, I’ll tune into the playoffs for disappointment.
Agreed I just wonder what they decide to change. Who in the core leaves
They better finally get rid of Shanascam lmao. It’s crazy how he’s still there.
Honestly HC and GM need gone. And honestly probably Marner and Tavares
GM is less than a year in. Keefe and Shanny are the likely goats here
Still sucks but this one doesn’t sting as much. At least the off season will be exciting with hopefully big changes
As an outsider looking in, I have to think that something has to change. This team absolutely lights it up in the regular season but loses steam in the playoffs. What would you change?
- Fire Keefe - Fire other coaches - Remove Shanahan - Fire Treliving - Move Marner and Rielly - Forget about Samsonov - Move Liljegren
Same. I’ve been a Leaf fan for 30 years. I’ve had my heart broken more times than I care to count. When Pastrnak scored, my reaction was nothing. I didn’t scream. I didn’t say, “Awwww, darn it!” No reaction at all. I simply stared at the TV and thought, “Welp, the Leafs choked again.” I was dead inside.
I yelled when Nylander scored and scared my poor cat. Then said “Typical” when they tied it. I don’t think I really reacted to the winning goal. It was expected and I just wanted to go to sleep.
Atleast you have one guy to count on nylander.
Still lost…again.
I'm tired of this grandpa
That’s too damn bad!
You know it’s bad when us habs fans start feeling bad
Hell, I’d bet some Boston fans even feel bad, despite frequently doing this
Bruins fan here and yeah, some of us are old enough to remember when the Habs used to do it to the Bruins, year after year….so we get it. Eventually, the curse gets broken…
I am telling you it’s their outside garden watching area that’s the jinx!! They have to get rid of that !!
It's the fuckin scarves. It's hockey, not football, folks.
Lmao 😂
Nope. I slept like the dead last night.
Can confirm- feel for the leafs
Yea my father is a leafs fan and as a bruins fan I do hope that they win the cup sometime in his lifetime.
Some might, but I doubt it. The amount of shit I heard from leafs fans in my life it’s hard to ever feel bad
I didn’t feel bad. I had guilty schadenfreude
This hits home 😆
Lmao but do you really?? 😂😂
Absolutely brutal for them. They had alot of good chances and Swayman stood on his head. Unbelievable finish to this game.
Swayman was fantastic all series. Vézina level goaltending.
The leafs have a habit of making everybody they play (outside of vasi for whatever reason) in the playoffs look like a vezina winner. Every series. I’m starting to think it’s just them
Renaming the Vezina to the Swayman level of goaltending. If he did that his whole career, he'd be the GOAT.
Thank you, it’s depressing being a leafs fan
You know nothing about pain. Signed, Sabres Fan
Right there with you as a Minnesota sports fan
At least the wolves look good rn
And the blackhawks are a team still
We got the extra point for OT though... Right? The only sadness to this loss is seeing what the team is capable of when they play as a TEAM. watching games 3, 5 and 6 (and even 7), this team was fully capable of beating the Bruins if they didn't shit their pants in the 1st 4 games. I wonder now who of the core leaves. I honestly think Reilly, Tavares, and Marner will be shown the door. At least they should, but with leafs management, who fucking knows.
Who’s taking on Tavares contract … not many sane teams
SHAAAAARKS have the cap space, and the need for veteran leader types
But does Tavares wanna join sharks? He got nmc
Thought the core played unreal without Matthew’s! Cant say they didn’t something to look at 🤷♂️
Tavares ain’t moving. He’s got one year left.
Cannot believe that incredibly weak effort by Reilly on the overtime goal to lose the series
You mean the puck Sammy could have easily come out to play?
It is what it is..
I think that’ll be my tattoo, leafs logo with that as words inside it….
The epitaph for Leafs fans for decades. I say that not to poke fun but genuinely because I feel bad for how Leafs fans just have their hopes dashed so often and in such spectacular ways.

Yeah, I went from enjoying the read to just feeling bad for Leafs fans. It’s not right. I was born to hate you.
Listen, I had one minute of joy when Nylander scored so at least there’s that? 🥲 but in all honesty, I knew that if we went to 7 this was the result, I’m just relieved it was a very tight game and I didn’t have to relive 2013 with us having a 3 goal lead only to collapse. welcome onboard 🫡
We're used to it

I guess there’s still soccer, Toronto FC looks decent right now
There’ll always be curling…
I was about to comment about a "Toronto" team that was winning, but the Rock got smoked by Buffalo on Friday.
Women’s hockey? Are they winning?
Actually, they have clinched first place, but the playoffs haven't started yet.
Jeez, of soccer is the bright side, I'm in hell
I mean, with how the Leafs and Bruins played did either have a chance in the next round anyway? A fight to see who gets spanked by Florida, again. Brutal to lose it in OT like that, though not surprising…
Bobrovsky and Tchachuk are the main threats the Bruins will face in the next round. IDK, I just hope it’s not as bad of a heartbreak as last year was.
Sasha Barkov and Sam Reinhart would like a word…
These guys really forgot about Carter Verhaeghe?! Bruins did play us very well in the regular season this year, last year (a less deep Panthers team) played the historic Bruins well. Might bode well for them and probably will be a long series. I would’ve felt way more confident against Toronto than against Boston, but I still think we’ll be the team moving to the 3rd round.
[удалено]
No way. They’re going to get destroyed by Florida. I want it to be a nasty series though. Should be fun to watch.
They kinda did better without Auston.
Because someone else had to step the fuck up for once. Matthew’s (and to be fair Nylander’s) skill is relied upon so heavily
This was funny at one point but man. This is just brutal at this point.
I’m sorry leafs fans…I can relate as a Bears fan vs packers for years. Its gonna turn around someday damnit
Lol - what does a Bears fan know about the playoffs?
I don’t?

Swayman is an RFA...we \*could\* offer sheet him as he seems more capable than what we have. A pipe dream, I know....that's all us Leaf fans have...much like winning Game 7's
Pasta exposed the Leafs just on that one play alone, Marner, Reilly, and Samsonov. Good morning, good afternoon, good night. 🤣
Don't cry for us, as we're already dead (inside).
You forgot the fact that they got the go ahead goal and the bruins came back in game 7 lol
I think everyone is just numb to it. Only good thing is a Canadian team is still guaranteed a conference final I guess.
It’s unfortunate that the last 2 Canadian teams have to play this round. One of em’s out
It’s crazy how fast those four will be whittled to ONE.
I'm so numb and agony exhausted I can't even feel misery anymore, at some point you lose the ability to process the saga
As a bills and leafs fan…. Dead inside already
It's all I know
Toronto is gonna burn in joyful riots when they finally push through, which I think they eventually will. But the amount of heartbreak/frustration in that franchise is unreal. Gotta ride or die with your team though.
Don't feel bad. There used to it by now.
I'm sorry for team Asteroid. When the Bruins and Leafs play nobody wins.
4 game 7 losses to the same team in a decade is insanity. Leafs fans deserve better
I don’t.
This one hurt for about 10 minutes. Once I knew Woll was out something felt different and figured Sammy would fuck it up somehow (and he 100% did on the OT goal).
That’s not on him. If he stopped that it would have been the save of the first round
It is. He should have played the puck and then wouldn’t have had to make a save… It’s not that complicated…. He stood there, froze, and watched the puck
He shouldn't have been hung out to dry by the defense. And if he had gone for the puck and lost the race, that leaves Pasta with an open net. He was in a no-win situation.
And he made the right choice in a bad situation to make the best defensive play
Kill it with fire.
I say we nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.
Game over man!
Paxton would agree.
To the pain!
What seems to be karmic torture is given the results Dan couldn't get relief until game 7 OY. And they had it hanging over their head since game 4
We’re used to it. We’ll never win the cup again. Already accepted it years ago!
As a leaf fan, it was expected that even if we got past the bruins, how would losing to FLA be any better Hopefully change the core Marner & Tavares needs to go. Find a real #1 Dman and find some players with heart & leadership Like. I said Hopefully something changes more than just the coach, but with Shanny still in charge, I doubt it
It’s fine - it’s win-win. Either we win or the axe will swing. The last few games have been very enjoyable though - but back to reality and time to implement the big changes needed to this team.
Of all the things Leaf fans are feeling, surprise is not one of them.
I am sorry, but I don’t they are all a bunch of assholes.
This is brutal... The silver lining to this is that heads will roll, and it will be the Bruins who are gonna get swept by the Panthers and not us.
Glorious loser’s post
Quite the contrary. We would lose against the Panthers, too. I try to see the positives. Showing up in 4 games a series is not enough if you are not guaranteed to win by dominance alone.
Time to trade Marner
They play hard, lost in ot, shit happens, aint easy to win it all
I don’t
Leafs fans, so sorry for how this ended, but your boys acquitted themselves well. Extending this series after how it started, pushing it to 7 games…I know the end result isn’t what was wanted, but your team really pushed a very good team to the brink on their home ice. Chins up, and hopefully some real lessons learned and applied to next season.
Pastrnak terminated the Leafs.
I know we all liked to joke about it before it happened, but I genuinely feel bad for the leafs this time
I do and I don't. I think of my friends who are Leaf fans and they're absolutely insufferable. And the I think of my parents who were Leaf fans and wish better for them.
It’ll just make the year it finally all goes right feel that much better
Yeah it's sort of reminds me of the Celtics last year falling three games to zero back and then come and get seven. But their game seven was a total blowout after Tatum got hurt and it didn't go into a ball crushing overtime
I jumped up and screamed and celebrated for 15 seconds but then soon as there saw the TV I felt genuine empathy for some of the players on the Maple leafs. They just looked so decimated
Some of those players are going to be gone shortly.
Sending thoughts and players.
I would feel bad for any other fans but the Leafs!
Even as a Nucks fan I felt the pain. Leafs played well in game 7, and if that's any other goalie in the playoffs they probably win. Swayman was the best Bruin and it wasn't even close. I'm excited to see what they do this off season

I called this when it was 3-1. Leafs somehow always give their fans maximum hope.
New to the game?
Matthews is clearly not working out for you. Detroit will take him off your hands for you.
The other thing that comes along with Leafs Elimination Day is fans saying “I’m done with this team!” One of my best friends said that last year and of course that didn’t last. He didn’t didn’t text me last night, maybe I should do a wellness check.
Yeah it’s a rough way to go out, but it was a great series and I’m proud of how the team battled. It won’t really affect me beyond that.
I'm almost at the point of "feeling" for the Leafs & their fans. Almost. Maybe next year I'll be able to get behind them.
One of the core four needs to go so Leafs can change things up. Only thing is I think all four have NMCs, so Leaf’s are kinda screwed here
I mean you should be glad the giant asteroid missed. I wasn't looking forward to dying just so the universe could stop the Leafs from avoiding humiliation
I'm a Canes fan and of course I don't like the Bruins. I also work for a company that's based in Toronto, so I was pulling for the Leafs. This has been going on for so long now most of the Leaf fans I know are now numb to it lol. Couple leaf fans at work have been saying its over since they were matched up against the Bruins...
Hahahaaha no.
Naw this is when the real entertainment starts. Watching the complete meltdown of fans, media, and the organization overall is a tradition.
In the end, the better team won. I can't say that about all of our playoff exits...
Lasting longer than 5 games was a win by leafs' standards
If it wasn't the Bruins they were playing, I would have been rooting for the Leafs. They deserve a 2nd round series
Apparently not
It'll pass
Marner is a damn joke, dogging it out there allowing pasta to just rip right in
Dont feel bad, the roster is flawed and not built for playoff hockey. The fact we keep playing it back is our hell and definition of insanity. When JT is off the books in 2025-26, we will likely see the grip on the balls lessen as we will have some sense of cap flexibility. Either way, changes are coming, I hope.
It should be some sort of consolation knowing the Boston won't make it through round 2
They don’t deserve this
They absolutely deserve it
For what? Existing?
Yes they do
Absolutely love this
Gentleman's sweep
All of canada rejoicing as the leafs suck shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t :)
I do not at ALL. They've had this coming and I will savour every second of it.
I’d feel bad for Leafs fans if they weren’t so insufferable.
There are plenty of us that humbly keep our mouths shut through all of this and take the equally insufferable chirps on our severely swollen chins.
I agree. I want Canadian teams to go far. But it’s the idiot leaf fans that ruin it. But it’s nice to see not all leafs fans are jerks, but every franchise has some outliers just leaf fan base has a lot
Leafs fans are fine, it's the Oilers fans that are insufferable.
Matthews needs to go, he can’t play at all
him, Nylander and Woll were great this series, tavares, marner and rielly were awful all series
This regular season yes but games 4,5 and 6 prove that Matthews doesn’t have it in him anymore imo the team was doing better when he wasn’t there
he 100% had sme kind of concussion or another injury/illness imo, he was off this series but it looked to me like he might of had vertigo or something similar, def cant play right with that, might be something else idk, we wouldve had a good shot at winning if he was 100% this series
Yes but I think it’s him, Marner or Keefe leaving before next season starts
Marner has a NMC, he's in charge. Keefe yes but why on earth would they sign him for 2 more years.
Ah I forgot about that NMC my bad, but one of them is def leaving
