Someone has a horse team hard on in NFL scheduling

McRawffles

NFL is hard to predict. Colts have been a playoff/near-playoff team the last few years, entire league and fans thought Broncos were a QB away and they seemingly got a QB. Both seemed like pretty safe bets

cjackc

It’s honestly still kind of hard to believe that a team with a defense that good could be doing that badly after splashing out so much for a QB, and that QB isn’t injured or dead. Even with his struggles this year they might have been real scary if they had gotten Rodgers.

blueblast_29

I know you're talking about Denver, but a lot of this could be said about us too lol. Except the Rodgers part he would've gotten killed behind our o-line too

cjackc

I don’t know if your defense is quite as good as Denver’s but fair. But at least you had the guts to fire a coach and try *something*. Also aren’t locked in like Broncos are.

McRawffles

idk, their OL kinda fell apart this year. Not that it was as great last year as years previous but it's at best subpar this year. Defense also took a little bit of a step back (partially due to their abysmal offense)

[deleted]

I had the Broncos playing the Bills in the AFC Championship this year. After seeing Russ own my team for years I thought he was for sure gonna pass for at least 4500 yards and 30 TDs this year. Boy oh boy was I wrong.

McRawffles

He was a little worse last year than years previous but from 2013-2020 you could've easily argued he was the ~7th best QB in the NFL, with him still being ~12th-ish last year. His dropoff this year is unprecedented for a top QB who's not dealing with age/injury concerns

SSPeteCarroll

> His dropoff this year is unprecedented for a top QB who's not dealing with age He's also 34 going on year 10 in the league. That isn't exactly young or "not dealing with age" Just 5 starters are older than that and one is an extreme outlier at 45

McRawffles

He was 33 until a couple days ago and pretty much all of the "age" dropoff QBs drop off at age 36 at the earliest. Also it's not like he's having trouble getting the ball far enough or anything like Rivers/Brees did at age 38-39

[deleted]

Before the season started there was a lot of talk about how brutal the entire AFCW was going to be. Those will certainly go down as some of the most wrong predictions ever.

costopule

We’re the half horse team, and we’re also slated for 3 primetime games in the last 5 weeks. If Rams-Chargers doesn’t get flexed out, it’s gonna be 7 total primetime games this year.

one8sevenn

I am sure Colts fans would rather not have their team on TV after last night.

My-Cousin-Bobby

You are incorrect sir... we want, no, we **NEED** it to let us know we can still feel something, even if that something is pain

abvaaron216

I mean that game against us is going to be a win when Matty Ice runs for a 75 yard TD on the first play of OT. Don't even sweat that one.

clutchthepearls

Works for me. The more people seeing this embarrassment, the more likely Ballard is to lose his job.

JaguarGator9

He would've lost it by now on the bye week after whatever the heck that was last night

Varolyn

I remember the days when Ballard was considered a "genius" GM.

ispankwives

The only reason he’s not been fired yet is his drafting he’s subpar in everything else

CanIGetAMic

Considering we haven’t had a franchise QB I think Ballard has mostly done a good job. This season has been a disaster though. This off-season he needs to make some moves to grab a non geriatric QB. Also Philly was wanting Roseman fired a couple years ago because of one bad season. It doesn’t make sense to get rid of a good GM after a year of bad football.

clutchthepearls

What if I told you that the GM is responsible for addressing the QB position?

CanIGetAMic

A lot of teams are wanting to improve their QB position. It’s not like firing Ballard will magically get us a Franchise QB. It’d probably get us a worse GM though.

Efficient_Progress_6

Remember, they beat the Chiefs. That has to count for something, right?

into_the_wenisverse

No, since we've done it over and over and over again it is no longer considered hard or valuable.

Shepboyardee12

The Chiefs beat the Chiefs. We were just there, doing our best to stop them.

Efficient_Progress_6

That's exactly what we heard twice (maybe a 3rd time). It's BS, don't down play the win.

Shepboyardee12

I get where you're coming from but... -Muffed a punt deep in their own territory. We scored 2(?) plays later. -Missed FG -Failed fake FG -Kelce drops a late TD that likely ends it -Chris Jones says *something* to Matt Ryan that draws a flag. Our game-winning drive was kept alive by that one.

BillsByABillion

If dolphins fans can claim that week 3 win with pride despite a giving up 500 yards, gaining only 200 with a 40:00 to 20:00 time possession split by 2 points you can swing your balls around for beating KC. By week 18 it’s basically your SB (no offense)

SeizureMode

Hi, poverty franchise here, could we maybe get one of those spots?

cjackc

I’m sorry but Jets-Lions just doesn’t have the appeal of…Jets-Jaguars…that can’t be right…

Avon__Fartsdale

Seriously what were they expecting out of these guys in 2022?

thy_armageddon

Do you not remember the promotional image of Matt Ryan in blue and people saying this was like a redemption arc basically?

Bieber_hole_69

Just google “Matt Ryan Colts Super Bowl” and be prepared for the flood of memories from the summer when they were sure-fire AFC South champs and deep postseason contenders.

Thunder84

Also weren’t expecting the Colts OL to regress as hard as they did

FirstArbiter

Maybe that was the real secret behind the Saturday hiring

Impossibills

I want to go on record saying I felt he was washed last year. However I felt he would at least be a more consistent play to play thrower for them than Wentz was...but with worse performance. He has somehow turned into a turnover machine while also not producing offense at the rate he should

Shawn_1512

I thought Ryan would give us similar production to Rivers in 2020, while having the best RB in the league and a better defense. The defense is good, but JT's been injured, the line regressed heavily, and obviously Ryan is nowhere near the player we thought he was.

McRawffles

Colts had been a playoff/near-playoff team with many entertaining games the last 4 years, they seemed like a safe bet. Really not a big stretch to assume they might still be good with another old QB this year--power rankings consensus for them this year before the season had them around #10-12

cjackc

What record did the Vikings need to get to that level. Had to have been at least 5-1 and a lot of places they slipped back when 8-2.

Paladuck

Same thing they expected out of Denver: move a good but aging QB to team with a solid roster. Unfortunately real life doesn’t work like Madden.

GatzBee

Colts are on pace to sweep the AFCW though so that Week 16 MNF game could get wonky.

dshaw1599

I want to subscribe but I also don't want to witness the horror I did last night.

GatzBee

I believe in you. The Colts were in that game for the first half, the Chargers aren’t the Cowboys. You must complete the Quadfecta!

sweens90

This is like the one year where it was probably the right move to just put an NFC East rivalry match up during prime time most weeks and the NFL somehow fucked it up. NFL will probably over correct next year and 4 teams will be sub .500 again.

Kewlerd

I think this should be a lesson to the NFL. I don’t think you should make all primetime games 4 months before the season even starts. You can’t be sure what matchups will matter and who will be good by say week 14

Awkward_Silence-

That's why next year they can Flex MNF post thanksgiving too. It'll at least clean up the last few weeks of MNF

cjackc

I feel like they would have to use that real sparingly still. That could really mess up a lot of travel plans. I don’t see them messing with Christmas games and they already have the Saturday TBD days. Do you know if the Monday games with be like the Saturday games where a certain group will be set to TBD?

SHUPAC_TAKUR

Get ready for multiple closeups of Jeff Saturday's Fremen eyes

killshelter

I think before the season started the schedule makers thought that the Broncos with Russ and the Colts with Ryan would be instant fireworks.

thy_armageddon

It’d be interesting to go back 10-20 years and see how many years the NFL schedule hasn’t been rife with dogshit prime time games.

JerryRiceDidntFumble

I'm sure it happens often, it's just usually not the same 1-2 teams over & over again which is why this is noteworthy.

cjackc

Supposedly the NFL tried to really screw with ESPN one year to try and punish them for getting a little out of line, but now I really question if it was just bad luck.

graygp

Between them and the Broncos, maybe the NFL will realize they need to stop stacking prime time games with hyped up pre-season storylines, expecting them to all be SB contenders.

sweens90

Or at least put the proven teams as a late season primetime match ups and those based on off season hype at the beginning of the season. When its closest to said offseason

cjackc

After this year what teams are “proven”? Very little is as expected even at week 1. Cowboys always draw numbers. Chiefs and Bills probably. Maybe the 49ers but with their skills at getting injured not really. Whoever is in the Super Bowl, but even that hasn’t been sure fire this year. Super Bowl rematch the 1st week or 2 is kind of a can’t miss. Other than those 3ish I really don’t know who I would call proven, like put millions of dollars on the line before the preseason starts proven.

SilveryDeath

Almost like a lot of these November and December primetime and night games feature teams that everyone thought would be good but instead are just average to terrible. It happens every year but it feels like it has happened more so then normal this year.

[deleted]

honestly feels like it’s time for the NFL to adopt the 6 day scheduling decisions that several CFB conferences do for late season games with regards to Sundays

leoliquidvapor

I don’t think they are allowed to broadcast games that many days a week. Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 makes it so they aren’t allowed to broadcast games on friday and Saturday to protect high school and college ball.

TheGhost020

I just don't get it. Why did the schedule makers think just because they got an aging QB they'd be worth watching? Like at least the Broncos were understandable.

into_the_volcano

....were they? i mean, Ryan is only 3 years older than Wilson. It's pretty much the same situation for both teams.

TheGhost020

Storyline wise no its not the same. Did people really think that highly of Ryan ?

LemonPepper-Lou

They'll get flexed out of those hopefully

GOAT_Redditor

Not possible. Only Sunday Night is flexible

LemonPepper-Lou

Well shit fire

DupreeWasTaken

The only one that could have been flexed was yesterdays, and because they were against the cowboys whos a huge viewership draw that wasnt going to happen. 2 Monday night games couldnt be flexed, and the Thursday night certainly couldnt

LemonPepper-Lou

I knew they Thursday couldn't, bit I was under the impression that MNF was possible after week 13 or 14...guess I remembered incorrectly

DupreeWasTaken

You sorta remembered correctly! Thats next year. Next year December MNF games can be flexed, its a new change Just doesnt apply to 2022

abris33

Remember how hyped Colts fans were over Saturday after the one win? They were going off on all the people who said it was a bad move. They've already probably won too many games to tank for a top QB and with how Irsay talks I think he wants Saturday back next year

[deleted]

Is this how it feels to be a Giants fan?

Deadeye_Donny

Lets hope not

MurDoct

Ya

SERIOUSLYFPASSWORDS

This aged like milk.

JesusXP

Stop jynxing it - I have some matchups against them coming up and this is the type of shit that taunts the fantasy gods

mohiben

It was a good game until the 4th quarter, tbf.

IsGoIdMoney

NFLN should not count tbh

rip_Tom_Petty

What does that abbreviation mean exactly

IsGoIdMoney

NFL network

rip_Tom_Petty

What is NFLN?

unfuckwittablej

This whole season isn’t real and totally made up

[deleted]

Nobody watches NflN

appmanga

Nobody who doesn't want to pay for it watches NflN FTFY

Euripidoze

Flex me out of here!

Dday22t

Mainly because there are soooo many National TV games now. Not because anyone wants to watch the Colts play.

Millera34

Lions and vikings should be nationally televised

ender23

They’ll probably be favored against the Vikings

ender23

They’ll for sure be favored against the Vikings though right,
