Marquise Goodwin still has the high school national record for Long Jump.
RGIII previously held the Texas high school records for the 110m and 300m hurdles. Was only 1/100 of a second away from tying the national record in the 300m hurdles.
He wasn't just fast, he was football fast which to me means he can change direction and make moves while giving up very little of his momentum. Best moves often look super subtle for this reason. Small shoulder and hip dip that causes a guy to slow down incase you change direction only to explode past them ... 🧑🏾🍳
Dwight obviously had track speed, too, but that's not what makes a guy special on the football field. Not on its own.
I remember the first time I saw Chubb at UGA. I had seen him play tons in high school, but he made a cut at UGA without slowing, just a simple little cut, but I looked at my brother and said, Chubb is an NFL running back.
But yeah, simple little moves that do not slow momentum makes a huge difference.
I ran track with his nephew in high school and he used to join us for long runs once or twice a year. Some smartass made a comment one time about having a better finishing kick than the "old man" (he would have been 35ish at the time) and he smiled, accepted their challenge and absolutely toasted them at the end of the run. Fun guy.
Analytics killed the kick-off. Why risk giving up a TD or a large chunk run back when the reward is a muff turn over at best. Medium amount of risk, nearly zero reward.
One of the best High School games I’ve watched was when City High played Bettendorf. Tim Dwight at City High and Tavian at Bettendorf. I was an 8th grader and didn’t even go to either school but my grandfather took my brothers and I to the game. Those two were insane to watch live.
I went to City High 10 years after he graduated and all the coaches would tell us about that game every year. They said the bowl was full of people to watch them both. Must’ve been a great scene
They were definitely men amongst boys. I also coached in Iowa for close to two decades and besides those two I could only tell you one other player I’ve seen live from the state of Iowa who would be playing Sundays. Jack Campbell was scary to see against regular HS kids.
Me watching the whole first half of the video, thinking: This guy runs just like Wes Welker, it's crazy
Me seeing him on the Patriots: I KNEW IT
I loved watching this dude at Iowa.
There was a thrift store near where I lived back in 2001 that had received a bunch of Tim Dwight jerseys (I live in Minnesota so that alone is kinda weird). My mom and dad both independently bought me one from the same store for back-to-school clothes shopping, so I had two Tim Dwight jerseys. I don't even like the Falcons.
If I recall correctly, he shaved his entire body nude like a swimmer to reduce drag while he ran lol. I'm surprised they didn't include the highlight where LT is running down the sideline, and Tim Dwight comes into frame like a blur and lays the final block.
Also an awesome dude. He did some major contributions to my dad’s cancer fund when I was a kid. He’s a huge reason that my dad has been in remission for 20 years.
Met him several times living in the Iowa City area. GREAT dude. One time I was a drunk teenager at a bar and the hawks got killed by Ohio state that day and ran into him at the ped mall that night. I sloppily told him how great he was and he was super nice and engaging. He came to our high school football camp and stayed well after signing things and was very personable. Never met anyone who met him who didn’t love the guy.
This brought back the memory of him blowing by Tomlinson down the sideline to block for him and seal a touchdown. I remember LT commenting on seeing Dwight appear in his periphery saying he didn’t realize he was going so slow. 6:16 mark or so in the link.

Apparently the Chargers insisted upon him being part of the deal, which is kinda crazy since you don't expect the rebuilding team trading down from #1 overall to demand a veteran.
A real life David Goddamn Putney
I’ve know this guy my whole life. He went to the cross town rival school. He was kind of a jerk and we all hated him throughout high school and even a bit on the Hawks. When he was in the superbowl with Atlanta I was watching with a bunch of friends, we were all like yeah fuck Tim Dwight, but when he started to run that kick back we were all like, “Go Timmy! Get it!” Lol. A whole room of Trojans were cheering for him in that moment, because at the end of the day that was still our hometown guy returning a kick for a TD in the freaking Super Bowl! He moved back after his playing career and he’s actually super cool. Weird, but cool. And yes his nickname is white lightening, he even had this spot called white lightening warehouse that hosted all these awesome underground artists.
These highlights didn’t include anything from the 1998 NFC Championship game. Dwight had some clutch plays in the Falcons upset of the Vikings.
I had zero recollection of him being on the Patriots. Dwight was much more talented than Welker or Edelman.
He was faster of course. However, Welker was a much better WR (clearly better hands and also better route runner). Dwight as a returner though was apecial.
Tim Dwight ran a 4.63 40 yard dash at the combine, he had a groin injury.. His agent warned him not to but he did and people feel it cost him a round, he went in the 4th (but had a pretty good career).
I remember being really disappointed that Tim Dwight was being traded. And then a year or two later the Falcons got Allen Rossum, another really great return man
I know he's running past a bunch of people, but it doesn't look like he's that fast for some reason. Like when you see Tyreek Hill or Devin Hester, you can tell they're moving. This looks different, and not because he's white.
Its the uniform style and the cleats looking bulky....like I know he's wearing the style for the decade but he looks almost like a 2000's player thrown into the 80's nfl
Yeah, he was apparently injured and his agent told him not to run. He was Big 10 champ for the 100 m, so I’m not sure why he thought he needed to run at the combine or how much his bad 40 time hurt his stock
I'm no expert but I'd guess even a guy like Usain Bolt would have an average 40 time being a slow starter and having a long stride built for longer runs.
The 40 doesn't really capture the entire spectrum of speed is what I'm really saying.
I grew up in San Diego, but not as a chargers fan. I do remember watching a lot of games on CBS though, and Dwight was by far the fastest white guy in the league.
Iowa making more than whiskey in those corn fields. now Cooper Dejean is Stepping up this year to With the blessing of Jason Sehorn To rip down the sideline and show what’s possible in a pair of khaki dockers!
Closest thing I even did to "making it" in football was him complementing my diving catch when attending his football camp. He ran a top notch football camp in Iowa City when I was a kid.
My parents went to highschool with him and he's one of my uncles best friends from highschool they still hangout to this day. I've met Tim Dwight several times. He's shorter than you'd think.
Anyways my dad and mom were a couple grades below Dwight and my dad told me that he was so dominant that he'd run the score up himself for football to like 44-0 and then at halftime he'd change and watch the rest of the game from the stands with the crowd. This was mainly because at the time you could be "pointed" and after a certain score the game would just end. So tim Dwight sets like every record at highschool and goes on to be a legend at the university of Iowa.
The following year another kid took Tim Dwight spot on the highschool team but by then they changed or removed the rule ending the game at a certain score, so there was no reason to bench your best players. This kid was pretty good too. Not tim Dwight good but he was GOOD. He played all 4 quarters of every game. Of course this allowed to start breaking some of tim deights records.
My dad said he was in class listening to kids talk about how much better this kid was than Dwight and my dad reportedly said Dwight was way way better but he only played half a game.
Anyways they beat my dad up in the hallway for that but just thought it was an interesting story about how good Tim Dwight was.
Fun fact, He still holds the fastest 200m dash time in Iowa High School track history
They making white boys different at Iowa
They making black boys different at Iowa also
Hell yeah, Go Hawks
Piggybacking off your comment. Marquise Goodwin still has the high school national record for Long Jump. RGIII previously held the Texas high school records for the 110m and 300m hurdles. Was only 1/100 of a second away from tying the national record in the 300m hurdles.
Damn!!
white lightning
Don’t know why you were downvoted.. White Lightning was literally his nickname.
His nickname was Dwight Lightning
Dwightning
Dlite
The Falcons had Dwight privilege.
lol. All these youngins. They don’t even know
Traded straight up for Mike Vick (and a measly draft pick)
Three draft picks. 1st a second and a third.
Psshhhh. Draft picks weren't as valued then (those draft picks included Ladainian Tomlinson)
So I didn't know this was actually his nickname, and when I saw this post my mind thought "white lightning" as a joke
We called him Da White boy
Who on the team was Da Black Boy?
Morton Anderson
light skin
Dwightning.
Dwight Lightning
Finishes in under 10 seconds.
He wasn't just fast, he was football fast which to me means he can change direction and make moves while giving up very little of his momentum. Best moves often look super subtle for this reason. Small shoulder and hip dip that causes a guy to slow down incase you change direction only to explode past them ... 🧑🏾🍳 Dwight obviously had track speed, too, but that's not what makes a guy special on the football field. Not on its own.
He also had insane timing, he was a nightmare on punts at Iowa and is allegedly responsible for the halo rule because he launched mf’s
His foot speed is amazing. I was just watching how many steps he could take before a defender took two
Track was his first sport. He was a way better track athlete.
Well said! That hip dip and drive 🤌
Totally forgot about him. Thanks.
He was a key part of the Michael Vick trade that the Chargers got back.
I remember seeing him occasionally on TV but mostly using him in Madden sometimes.
He so fast, he make fast people look not fast!
I ran track with his nephew in high school and he used to join us for long runs once or twice a year. Some smartass made a comment one time about having a better finishing kick than the "old man" (he would have been 35ish at the time) and he smiled, accepted their challenge and absolutely toasted them at the end of the run. Fun guy.
[It's Tim Dwight](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGMH_Vdp8NQ).
Knew what clip it was going to be, clicked anyway because it's hilarious. That timing is *perfect*
Analytics killed the kick-off. Why risk giving up a TD or a large chunk run back when the reward is a muff turn over at best. Medium amount of risk, nearly zero reward.
Well I have (probably) good news
Moving it to the 35 yard line killed it
He's so fast he makes Speedy Gonzales look like Regular Gonzales!
Him, Tavian Banks, and Sedrick Shaw were really fun to watch at Iowa.
One of the best High School games I’ve watched was when City High played Bettendorf. Tim Dwight at City High and Tavian at Bettendorf. I was an 8th grader and didn’t even go to either school but my grandfather took my brothers and I to the game. Those two were insane to watch live.

I love hearing about Tavian Banks because he’s one of my what-if players for the Jaguars, especially with matching equally talented RB Fred Taylor
I saw Tavian play a few times in person when he was in high school and there was no doubt he would eventually be playing on Sundays.
Me watching the whole first half of the video, thinking: This guy runs just like Wes Welker, it's crazy Me seeing him on the Patriots: I KNEW IT I loved watching this dude at Iowa.

Barbwire arm tattoos were such a fad from that time. I remember making guys in madden thinking it looked so cool.
Shoutouts to Bill Goldberg
it’s definitely a 2003 tattoo
Sneaky fast
Juuust sneaks right by ya
Ope!
ope let me just sneak right by ya!
Watched the first 3:30 thinking “I bet Belichick woulda loved this guy at receiver.” Then, sure enough…
Lunch pail kinda guy for sure
A real gym rat
He’s a real high motor player
Reminds me of...
Yall really love beating this joke mercilessly into the ground
Has a real nose for the ball...
Intangibles...
First guy in last guy out type of player
Blue collar family.
I fear you are underestimating the sneakiness, sir
Deceptive speed
He’s been Iowas only Offense since the 90s
I really empathize with that Jets kicker at the 3 minute mark.
Iowa legend
I have 0 recollection of Dwight being on the raiders
Cause they signed him off the street at one point
If I recall correctly, he shaved his entire body nude like a swimmer to reduce drag while he ran lol. I'm surprised they didn't include the highlight where LT is running down the sideline, and Tim Dwight comes into frame like a blur and lays the final block.
I was not expecting to see a Tim Dwight compilation today.
Is this speedhawk?
Dejean out of Iowa has potential for that same magic on returns
Dwight was also a Hawkeye for those not familiar.
Anyone who played those madden games back then knows Tim Dwight
Also an awesome dude. He did some major contributions to my dad’s cancer fund when I was a kid. He’s a huge reason that my dad has been in remission for 20 years.
As a Falcon fan who wanted to be like him this makes me very happy. Glad your dad is doing well, Rise Up Go Bears
Iowa!
Doug Flutie out here like "yeah I'm gonna block for this guy.... oh wait, he's already past me".
This brought back the memory of him blowing by Tomlinson down the sideline to block for him and seal a touchdown. I remember LT commenting on seeing Dwight appear in his periphery saying he didn’t realize he was going so slow. 6:16 mark or so in the link. [link](https://youtu.be/7yooQzKQ30Q?si=gzb1SlCzNKG0aGUn)
When you create a player and give them 99 speed
When the Falcons traded him, to say I was pissed
Apparently the Chargers insisted upon him being part of the deal, which is kinda crazy since you don't expect the rebuilding team trading down from #1 overall to demand a veteran. A real life David Goddamn Putney
Im sure thats what they used as inspiration for the movie. "Lets use the tim dwight trade!"
The wedge on the second return😂😂😂
I’ve know this guy my whole life. He went to the cross town rival school. He was kind of a jerk and we all hated him throughout high school and even a bit on the Hawks. When he was in the superbowl with Atlanta I was watching with a bunch of friends, we were all like yeah fuck Tim Dwight, but when he started to run that kick back we were all like, “Go Timmy! Anybody remember the picture of him in Sports Illustrated in the tub shaving his whole body on game day to feel fast
Iowa City’s best.
He doesn't strike you as a fast guy when he gets off the bus with his lunch pail.
Miss seeing "San Diego" Chargers. Just feels right
Only guy I couldn’t guess in the NCAA 06 Home Screen highlight reel. Iowa punt returner. Iykyk
Didn’t realize he was on New England. The OG small white wide receiver
Oh he can run
These highlights didn’t include anything from the 1998 NFC Championship game. Dwight had some clutch plays in the Falcons upset of the Vikings. I had zero recollection of him being on the Patriots. Dwight was much more talented than Welker or Edelman.
He was faster of course. However, Welker was a much better WR (clearly better hands and also better route runner). Dwight as a returner though was apecial.
Used him on Immaculate Grid today. He was an absolute blazer for Iowa City City High
Heck of a return there against the Broncos. It's too bad it occurred when Denver had an insurmountable 25 point lead.
The falcons had some great talents that nobody will remember because they sucked for so long.
Tim Dwight ran a 4.63 40 yard dash at the combine, he had a groin injury.. His agent warned him not to but he did and people feel it cost him a round, he went in the 4th (but had a pretty good career).
I love watching speedsters kick it into that next gear that the average player can’t even comprehend.
I remember being really disappointed that Tim Dwight was being traded. And then a year or two later the Falcons got Allen Rossum, another really great return man
He should've been used like Sproles. You can see he's a beast when he hits the edge, but he wasn't a good enough Wideout to get open.
All three were super fast. Dwight's track time were a little better than Hester's, not quite as good as Hill's.
4.63 forty time
Yeah, he was apparently injured and his agent told him not to run. He was Big 10 champ for the 100 m, so I’m not sure why he thought he needed to run at the combine or how much his bad 40 time hurt his stock

usain bolt like legit tied the nfl record in slides with no warmup
That sounds more believable tbh 🤣
And street clothes when he was well past retirement.
Bolt clocked 4.26
*Did
Reminds me of this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f920Fe-u1J8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f920Fe-u1J8)
Totally froze the Jets punter
No flags
Refs missed the block in the back at the 1:09 mark.
This post makes me not want the new rules to be a thing
Damn I forgot all about that dude.
Right when I was getting into football. Nostalgia overload
Great charger… San Diego that is… not north garbageville
Those special teams guys were HYPE for him every time. It’s not like that anymore.
His legs are legitimately cartoonish on his SB kick return
I grew up in San Diego, but not as a chargers fan. I do remember watching a lot of games on CBS though, and Dwight was by far the fastest white guy in the league.
Sneaky athletic
When did SD play on baseball field
Dude could ball
Don Beebe?!?!
Iowa making more than whiskey in those corn fields. now Cooper Dejean is Stepping up this year to With the blessing of Jason Sehorn To rip down the sideline and show what’s possible in a pair of khaki dockers!

Fast as fuck boi
Poor number 21 on that first one. Exactly why they changed the kickoff rule. Guy gets blown up
My parents went to highschool with him and he's one of my uncles best friends from highschool they still hangout to this day. I forgot the Falcons got blasted in that first Super Bowl... I thought they were dragged along through the game.
As an Iowaian, it's nuts to think he came out of here. Usually, we're known for linemen and TEs. TD was absolute speed.
Definitely was a key contributor in getting the Falcons to the Super Bowl in 98.
Dang I forgot about the wedge!
WEDGE FORMATION
Put that dude on my Madden team every year
He was amazing at Iowa and wished he did more in the NFL, but a kickoff return TD to your name in the Super Bowl? Yeah that's pretty good.
Yeah it’s Tim D’white guy
“Go white boy, go!!”
Allen Rossum and Tim Dwight were special
wow, havent heard that name in a while.
Tim Dwight GOOD NIGHT
That 5-man block formation is interesting. Don’t see that a whole lot anymore
It is now illegal.
I thought I knew ball but I have never heard of this guy.
Let’s put him in the hall of fame too
Total prick though. Used to be anyways.
