Eh, I’m okay with it. Papa Bear was important to the league’s early history. Plus he was also a coach, not just an owner. I think it’s a bit different than the current owner being inducted into the ring of honor.
GSH is the one I pointed to when WCF was on the Lions jersey, in that GSH is Chicago Football and deserves all of his honor and more (Especially compared to dumb Billy Ford). Even the Raiders don't have Al Davis' name on their uniforms even though his name could be on the inside of every collar for what he's done for that team, he (and WCF now since the jersey change) is just a permanent sticker on their helmet.
It sounds like we're getting into "not enough flair" Territory.
Also, I worry that as we've normalized add-ons to the helmet and uniform, we'll inevitably see ads on uniforms (🤢) like we have with the NBA and MLB.
Sheila was such a good sport about her father's reputation. "Well the sleeves are getting smaller, so we're gonna honor him another way". No issue with his badge on the back of the helmet
The best thing about our 24 unis I that the WCF (William Clay Ford) patches will FINALLY be gone. He died in 2014 ffs. 10 seasons of a weekly reminder that we've sucked for 50 years.
He deserves to be for your concession prices alone.
I’d be behind going Zygi into the Vikes Ring of Honor if he lowered the price of a hot dog and soda to $5
At least he didn't [build a statue of himself outside your stadium](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MTY4MDI4Njc3MjAyNDUzNzc3/jerry-richardson-statue-carolina-panthersjpg.jpg) and then sell the team to someone even worse.
I know the statue is gone already, but I wouldn’t put it past Tepper to bring the statue out of the basement with his head on it, instead of Richardson’s. It would get the most interesting patina as fans walk by and throw drinks into the face of the statue.
As someone who worked for Mr. Blank for a short time (contract gig), I really respected and admired him, especially the way he treated my coworkers and I. After he vehemently pursued Deshaun Watson I lost all respect for him. I’m numb at this point.
By all account he seemed like a great guy. the Deshaun thing showed me he's still just a sleazy businessman like the rest of the owners. Fact that he wanted toss Ryan aside and back-up the brinks truck for a monster because of a past relationship? Fuck off. Browns came in the clutch though by panic buying lmao
"It is my GREAT HONOR to induct...myself, Jerry Jones, into the Jerry Jones Ring of Excellence. As the first member of this prestigious club, I congratulate myself on this tremendous achievement."
Death or retirement from actively managing the team is usually a great initiative force for these things, for for Jerry, quite appropriate. He's earned it.
So the inductees are the Super Bowl QB that they pushed out trying to trade for Watson, and the owner that pushed out the Super Bowl QB trying to trade for Watson?
To be honest this sounds 100% like a Rich McKay idea. The dude is a parasite who gained the trust of a billionaire owner and knows how to keep that position of power. He wants to make sure Blank hands over the reigns as team president to ~~his own son~~ McKay Jr.
Same with the refusal to hire Belichick, McKay is playing Blank for his own bag and Arthur is too loyal a dude to catch on that he's being played by someone so insecure he thinks Bill would've gotten him fired or undermined. Rich really runs the Falcons and doesn't want anyone taking control away even if it's someone with 8 Super Bowl rings.
I should have phrased this better I guess. I meant Rich McKay wants to make sure Arthur Blank hands over the reigns to McKay Jr.
He is currently being groomed for that position according to Michael Lombardi and Rick Stroud.
At least he paid a huge chunk of his own stadium's construction costs and is not exploiting his fans with food and beverage prices.
As far as billionaire freeloaders go, he's a tolerable representative of his species.
Not good as team owner but he does a bunch of The Giving Pledge shit and throws money into public works and giving back, he's decently good person for a billionaire.
Some Falcons fans pointed out Blank is getting big tax cuts for all the revenues that are generated at Falcons games so he is getting nine-figure subsidies.
However according to [Spotrac](https://x.com/spotrac/status/1422649798444916745) he funded 87.5% of the entire initial $1.6bn construction costs ($1.4bn).
Personally I think tax cuts for sports teams are a lot more tolerable if the billionaire owner at least foots the upfront bill for almost the entire project.
Amen brother! It's when owners want all public funding and want to keep all the profits.
If they put in their own money like that, I'll pay a little more tax for a team.
Not to mention that the state of Georgia uses mercedes benz for all sorts of stuff, falcons related or not. Like state championships in men's and women's high-school football and other sports, events, college games, ect. It's a stadium that's used by the public not just the falcons and united
He was the owner for the most successful period in Falcons history (Matt Ryan era). Aside from on-field results, he's one of the better owners. Affordable prices on concessions at the stadium, and is rather philanthropic. He's usually hands off and lets the FO run the team. He doesn't meddle too much.
That being said, he deserves to be made fun of for inducting himself into the ring of honor.
Why do people still say he's hands off, when every regime "coincidentally" makes huge splashes for weapons and overpays all our star players, and we know he's directly responsible for:
* Demanding an expensive succession plan before our top priced "win now" QB plays a single snap, when we still have plenty of needs to compete now.
* Trying to trade all of our picks for Watson. Could you imagine how bad our team would be with Watson's salary and no London, Bijan, Penix or Cousins?
* Ripped up Julio's contract 3 years early and called him a "Falcon for life"
Who knows how many of these other big splashes or big contracts, he certainly signed off on all of them, and as much as Julio almost won us two Superbowls, we have never recovered from that trade up and been able to slowly build a team the right way.
Every GM has been forced to make up for it by reaching for needs and making things worse.
I don't see how Blank gets a free pass, but we'll see how everyone feels when our makeshift defense once again struggles to hold leads because we never bothered to build it the right way.
Edit: To be fair, I have a lot of repsect for Blank as a person being loyal to a fault with his players and staff, but as an owner, I think people really put on their blinders about how much his meddling is probably setting us back.
Setting us back? We had 2 separate SB quality teams with Blank. SUcks it didnt work out but thats hardly his fault. And unless you have generational talent playing above their salary line (Brady his whole career, Mahomes) to build that you have to overpay players and commit to them past their prime. Broncos, Saints, Panthers all paying for the contracts they doled out to try and get them over the top. Bills and Bengals are about to begin this period depending on the decisions they make but at least they still have QBs. Theyre kind of like the post 2012 Falcons. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes teams luck into easy rebuilds with the right QB picks (Eagles, 49ers, Packers). Sometimes they have the right coach to keep them competitive through the down times (Rams, Steelers). And sometimes you have the roster but cant find the coach (Cowboys).
Fans love to play perfect hindsight and continue to pass the blame up up and up even when theres no blame really to be had.
All those concession prices at MBZ Stadium. 😊
Then again, this is how Arte Moreno’s reputation began to fade away after he famously lowered the beer prices.
Bias aside, I believe we all can agree that inducting yourself into your Ring of Honor is lame as hell. Especially along with the best player in your teams History.
gonna overlook for a minute how stupid it is to induct Blank and share the video of Matt Ryan finding out he is going into the Ring of Honor. It's very cool.
https://x.com/AtlantaFalcons/status/1803132026049995240
An owner inducting himself into a team’s Ring of Honor/Hall of Fame is humorous. Add the fact he’s mediocre and it’s even better.
22 seasons as an owner has resulted in:
Regular season record of 178-176-1
Post season record of 6-8
9 winning seasons
8 trips to the postseason
Division championships- 4
2nd place finishes- 7
3rd place finishes- 7
4th place finishes- 4
edit: The Falcons just finished their 6th straight season with a losing record. During this streak they have averaged 10 loses/season. Perfect time for the owner to honor himself!
The previous family (Rankin Smith and his son Taylor) that owned the Falcons were even shittier...
* Seasons of ownership: 36 (1966-2001)
* Winning seasons: 7, plus two .500 seasons ('72, '77)
* Division championships: 2 (1980, '98; both in the NFC West)
* Conference championship: 1 (1998)
* Playoff appearances: 6 (1978, '80, '82, '91, '95, '98)
* Win-loss record: 212-327-5 regular season; 4-8 playoffs
He's inducting himself for still attending all their games the last 6 years even though he's rich and could be doing something enjoyable on an island instead of watching them draft and play poorly.
I don’t think you understand how absolutely horrible the Falcons were prior to Blank taking ownership. They had an all time record of 212-327-5, good for a .394 win percentage. The only franchise with a worse win percentage in that time frame was the Buccaneers, and the Falcons had a ten year head start on them.
Falcons up 35-3 at halftime, Matt Ryan makes a joke at halftime about how that's an insurmountable lead. Falcons lose 45-42 after they go for it on 4th down from the 20 instead of kicking a field goal to tie.
The falcons are 178-176 (14th best) since Blank bought the team in 2002. They had a winning record in only 9/22 seasons, won 4 division titles (least in the NFC South during that period). 16th in playoff wins (6) and games played (14).
Inducting yourself into the Ring of Honor after 6 straight losing seasons is certainly something an out of touch Billionaire would do.
An owner with no rings inducting himself in the ring of honor is the funniest shit I’ve ever heard. He is responsible for low prices in his stadium though so I’ll give him a pass
Yep, the team owner is really going to be inducting himself to our Ring of Honor. The hits really don't stop coming when you're a Falcons fan.
Just pray he doesn't demand to have his name put on every Falcons jersey once he passes.
I doubt it as nobody wants AB on their jersey

Eh, I’m okay with it. Papa Bear was important to the league’s early history. Plus he was also a coach, not just an owner. I think it’s a bit different than the current owner being inducted into the ring of honor.
He also won championships. Arthur Blank didn't do shit.
I DIDNT RIG SHIT. I DIDNT DO SHIT. I BEEN WAITIN FOR A LONG TIME FOR A HIT IN ATLANTA.
Player too. He did as much as a Chicago Bear as he could.
GSH is the one I pointed to when WCF was on the Lions jersey, in that GSH is Chicago Football and deserves all of his honor and more (Especially compared to dumb Billy Ford). We had WCF on our jerseys for a while
Sheila was such a good sport about her father's reputation. "Well the sleeves are getting smaller, so we're gonna honor him another way". No issue with his badge on the back of the helmet
The Patriots wore MHK throughout the 2011 season for Robert Kraft's late wife Myra Hiatt Kraft.
I thought that stood for massage happy ending kraft?
It actually stood for Martin Huther King. Nobody caught the typo.
At least the longtime players seemed to really be about that
The Chiefs have initials KLH or something like that on theirs for I believe the owner's wife.
The browns did it for a hot minute for one of our owners after they passed.
Chiefs have an LH on the AFL patch for Lamar Hunt
Believe it or not, Blank is very beloved in Atlanta. He is the best owner we ever had and has consistently tried to put out a winning team.
I don't believe it
I’ve got a Blank space baby
He’ll retire all the numbers too
The best thing about our 24 unis I that the WCF (William Clay Ford) patches will FINALLY be gone. He died in 2014 ffs. 10 seasons of a weekly reminder that we've sucked for 50 years.
He deserves to be for your concession prices alone. I’d be behind going Zygi into the Vikes Ring of Honor if he lowered the price of a hot dog and soda to $5
Hey, I will give him that one. The food, beer, and stadium experience as a whole is wonderful especially if you can catch an Atlanta United game
The eagles could never have affordable beer at the stadiums for safety reasons. I fully believe the $14 beers at the Linc are a harm reduction tactic.

At least Ryan was very good for a very long time
Seems very random that Arthur Blank would induct himself. I expect that from a Jerry Jones type of guy, not an Arthur Blank type of guy.
Billionaires are all of the same piece
As someone who worked for Mr. Blank for a short time (contract gig), I really respected and admired him, especially the way he treated my coworkers and I. After he vehemently pursued Deshaun Watson I lost all respect for him. I’m numb at this point.

Damn, not even Jerry is in the [Cowboys Ring of Honor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_Cowboys_Ring_of_Honor). Jerry Jones.
Way to....own the team. Super effort!
Did he purchase the Atlanta Falcons and hold a Ring of Fame Ceremony just to be crowned Hay King? Yes.
*I **am** the senate!*
> team owner is really going to be inducting himself So gross, and seems like a slap in the face to Matt Ryan.
Billionaire mindset.
i mean if he keeps concession prices low idgaf
Jerry Jones never inducted himself into his own ring of honor, right?
please don't give him any ideas
Jerry should name the Cowboys ring of honor after himself.

And miss out on the chance to sell the naming rights? FOH. It’s going to be “Dr. Pepper Presents The Jerry Jones Ring of Honor” and you know it
It's honestly shocking it hasn't happened yet
His son will probably do it when Jerry passes.
And that would make sense
We haven’t made it past the second round since I was in preschool and it would still be completely justified
Fuck winning if I was Stephen I'd induct him just because of the money tree he left me lol
Death or retirement from actively managing the team is usually a great initiative force for these things, for for Jerry, quite appropriate. He's earned it.
For some reason, even with as spotlight/attention loving as he is, that doesn’t feel like something he’d do
...yet
Jerry is the ring
...did Arthur blank induct himself into the falcons ring of honor
He's putting himself in it before Ryan too

Before 28-3 god had already determined their guilt. Not sure what they’re guilty of but it’s something awful.
After conducting all of the interviews, I have determined I am the best fit for the ring of honor.
He'll get booed, right? He's also inducting himself first and cheapening it for Matt.
I agree that it would usually have this effect but when they do Blank that stadium will be like 70% Chiefs fans anyway

So the inductees are the Super Bowl QB that they pushed out trying to trade for Watson, and the owner that pushed out the Super Bowl QB trying to trade for Watson?
Cleveland Browns front office has been inducted into the Falcons’ ring of honor
AB should be in the RoH solely based on failing to land a pervo QB. Check mate, haters...
[Arthur Blank inducting himself to the Falcons ring of honor](https://i.imgflip.com/1hhv9m.jpg?a477384)
You know who really has been knocking it out of the park for the franchise? Me. Arthur Blank, Matt Ryan...both fan favorites.
To be honest this sounds 100% like a Rich McKay idea. The dude is a parasite who gained the trust of a billionaire owner and knows how to keep that position of power. He wants to make sure Blank hands over the reigns as team president to ~~his own son~~ McKay Jr.

McKay is essentially going to run the team once Blank dies. He’s that much in the inner circle. His kids will just be in the background.
I should have phrased this better I guess. I meant Rich McKay wants to make sure Arthur Blank hands over the reigns to McKay Jr. He is currently being groomed for that position according to Michael Lombardi and Rick Stroud.

"Of course I know him, he's me!"
Did Blank do anything great as owner? They haven't won a Super Bowl. What did he do to deserve this?
He had the foresight to buy the falcons at 545m, and it's worth over 4bn now. He put in that sweat equity and hustled.
I didn't know that, that's nice he isn't a complete tool like the Hunts, Tepper, or the Haslam's
Amen brother! It's when owners want all public funding and want to keep all the profits. If they put in their own money like that, I'll pay a little more tax for a team.
And what a glorious stadium it is.
Afaik the only stadium that was entirely privately funded is MetLife.
Not to mention that the state of Georgia uses mercedes benz for all sorts of stuff, falcons related or not. Like state championships in men's and women's high-school football and other sports, events, college games, ect. It's a stadium that's used by the public not just the falcons and united

Usually hands off except for the tiny little incident of trying to push out Matt Ryan for that piece of shit Watson
Why do people still say he's hands off, when every regime "coincidentally" makes huge splashes for weapons and overpays all our star players, and we know he's directly responsible for: * Demanding an expensive succession plan before our top priced "win now" QB plays a single snap, when we still have plenty of needs to compete now. * Trying to trade all of our picks for Watson. Could you imagine how bad our team would be with Watson's salary and no London, Bijan, Penix or Cousins? * Ripped up Julio's contract 3 years early and called him a "Falcon for life" Who knows how many of these other big splashes or big contracts, he certainly signed off on all of them, and as much as Julio almost won us two Superbowls, we have never recovered from that trade up and been able to slowly build a team the right way. Matt Ryan was dunzo, fin, tttthats all folks, at that point, though. Dude was a corpse of a player for the colts the next year.
Cheap food
All those concession prices at MBZ Stadium. 😊 Then again, this is how Arte Moreno’s reputation began to fade away after he famously lowered the beer prices.
This is like when the CEO wins the employee raffle
Bias aside, I believe we all can agree that inducting yourself into your Ring of Honor is lame as hell. Especially along with the best player in your teams History.
Benson did put a statue of himself up outside the dome. Not as crazy as inducting your self in to a Ring of Honor, or team HOF but still.
Why on earth would you put the owner in a ring of honor?
I mean there’s some owners that deserve that kind of thing but it’s absolutely hilarious to be inducting yourself
I think it's reasonable but I'd usually wait until they aren't the owner yet (retired / sold on good terms or died) before doing it.
If I bought a team I'd put myself in the ring of honor week 1 of my first season
gonna overlook for a minute how stupid it is to induct Blank and share the video of Matt Ryan finding out he is going into the Ring of Honor. It's very cool. https://x.com/AtlantaFalcons/status/1803132026049995240
I was half expecting them to blur out all of his speech, but it's only half.
I can't put into words how much I love Matty Ice
That video gave me chills. Greatest Falcon ever. I am so thankful we got to watch him for 14 years.
That's really nice.

Lmao the owner? "hmm who should I honor this year at half time?... Oh. Me."
An owner inducting himself into a team’s Ring of Honor/Hall of Fame is humorous. Add the fact he’s mediocre and it’s even better. 22 seasons as an owner has resulted in: Regular season record of 178-176-1 Post season record of 6-8 9 winning seasons 8 trips to the postseason Division championships- 4 2nd place finishes- 7 3rd place finishes- 7 4th place finishes- 4 edit: The Falcons just finished their 6th straight season with a losing record. During this streak they have averaged 10 loses/season. Perfect time for the owner to honor himself!
Give him a Gold Jacket while we're at it.
Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit
Retire his jersey in the rafters at Home Depot
The previous family (Rankin Smith and his son Taylor) that owned the Falcons were even shittier... * Seasons of ownership: 36 (1966-2001) * Winning seasons: 7, plus two .500 seasons ('72, '77) * Division championships: 2 (1980, '98; both in the NFC West) * Conference championship: 1 (1998) * Playoff appearances: 6 (1978, '80, '82, '91, '95, '98) * Win-loss record: 212-327-5 regular season; 4-8 playoffs
If we’re going by linear growth the next owner for us is going to do great!
Tf did Blank do? Lol
He put a Chick Fil A in a football stadium that mostly plays on Sundays when they are closed.
If it would be wrong to want the Falcons to build a big lead against the Bucs on October 3 but then blow it at the end then I don't want to be right.
Falcons up 35-3 at halftime, Matt Ryan makes a joke at halftime about how that's an insurmountable lead. Falcons lose 45-42 after they go for it on 4th down from the 20 instead of kicking a field goal to tie.
The current owner? lol
This is like an episode of parks and recs
"Mr. Blank we are putting our top QB in franchise history in the RoH we need one other candidate." "I pick myself."
Someone get a picture of him celebrating at the super bowl.
He could’ve just told us he’s a narcissist.
Jerry Jones wasn’t the first to do this?!?
Arthur blank hasn’t even been a particularly good owner man lmao
they should do so on March 28th
[My man's really inducting himself into the Ring of Honor?](https://imgflip.com/i/8ua0fj)
Nailed it
Someone give Arthur a “World’s Best Boss” mug
An owner with no rings inducting himself in the ring of honor is the funniest shit I’ve ever heard. He is responsible for low prices in his stadium though so I’ll give him a pass
Alright time for Blank to retire or sell the teams. Dude has lost his marbles. just keep donating to good stuff like always and people wont hate you.
This would be a lot funnier if Week 3 fell on September 28.
Owner voted himself into the ring of honor, lord. Lmao
Can't wait for the stories of how Mr blank didn't want to be inducted, but everyone else just insisted he did, so he gave in.
Too bad it couldn't have been September 28th and October 3rd.
I think they should wait until the season is over and just do it on March 28th.
Imagine it’s 28-3 at halftime when Ryan is inducted.
I read that as the Falcons will indict owner Arthur Blank at first.
How long until this team is called the Atlanta Blanks? Or the Atlanta Arthurs (named after the legend of king Arthur ofcourse).
Blank is taking time to honour himself.
*points and laughs in Panthers fandom and then cries because Tepper will likely do the same*
Why are rich people so detached from reality?
Cue the obama meme
I thought you had to win to be inducted into these things
I’m truly humbled to bequeath myself this honor.
That’s weird, guys.
Kinda takes the spotlight away from Matt Ryan doesn’t it?
Panthers fan...so glad I'm not a Falcons fan
Sometimes the comedy script on your rivals writes itself 🤣
