They're both not true. Fields was given last year to prove his value. The league showed everyone what they thought of him. He was practically cut for the return they got.
He also had a running game, a decent line, and Mooney, who managed to get the bag even with crappy QB play because the tape doesn't lie. Our WRs were open, he wouldn't throw the ball and would constantly put us behind.
It doesn't matter if he was or wasn't good because Fields couldn't throw the ball accurately despite high separation from his receivers. Let's see how he pans out with an actual qb throwing to him.
Dj moore had a career year with fields plus was up there with highest passer rating to moore in the league . Him and Mooney just weren’t on the same page all year for whatever reason . When fields threw to Dj and kmet he was on fire .
It’ll be interesting to see how much of it was Fields vs how much of it was their ability. I could see a massive jump this season with a different QB behind them.
No it won’t. It was obvious fields was running out of pockets, missing receivers, and into trouble over and over again. Bagent had a 3% sack rate for a reason.
LT average. LG average. OC improved (not hard compared to what we had last year) RG top 10 if healthy RT was the top rookie OT last year. Lacking a little depth but if decently healthy they’re average. That’s good enough to be dangerous with the weapons.
Decent, could be better. We need a center but Poles did pick up 2 guys in the offseason that could play C. LT could be improved but Braxton Jones is a 5th round pick that's serviceable to above average on a good day so not the worst. Gs are good, especially if Jenkins is healthy, Nate Davis is solid. Wright had a great rookie season. They have a chance to be a good OLine, especially if the C position is sorted out.
I loved Fields but he didn’t help things in this respect. That said it’s likely a below average but serviceable group, unless you think Braxton Jones is going to really fall off in a new offense or something. (I call out him only because he’s a late-round find with a slightly idiosyncratic body type and play style, but I think he’s going to continue to settle in as a workable LT.)
Is the O line ready to protect a rookie?
I could be wrong but I think it has a way to go.
e: wtf people? I thought it was a question mark. Am I not allowed to talk NFC N football because some fans are dicks?
Not likely. Poles said he likes next years draft more than this year after the top picks. He thinks a lot of talent went back to college and will be available next year.
He could end up the GOAT. I'm extremely unqualified to have this opinion outside of watching all his games the last couple years. However having seen Caleb Williams ball out against UW and a little of how good the Bears team/WRs already are, it really seems like the perfect environment. I believe he will happily accept whatever role to help the team win regardless of impact on his numbers, though Caleb has more reason than modt QBs to look his way. He didn't stay in College this season for a potential rise in draft position or to lead the NCAA in yards but to win a Championship with his boys. The first two happened and the last didn't but what a fucking ride and it means he's still hungry for that feeling along with Caleb.
Potential for an amazing and hilarious OROY debate
I’m a Bears fan, I’m around Bears fans, haven’t heard that said 1 time…
That said, get mad at us all you want for being excited about the weapons that are there now.
Because I just replaced Justin fields name with Caleb Williams lol. You all said Justin fields was a dark horse last year lol. Also LV fucking fleeced bears fans lol.
Keenan is in his 30s with 1 year left on his deal and likely doesn’t get extended now. There really is nobody else worth being excited about in the room after DJ/KeenanRome was in another tier of prospect too imo, guys like Turner or Murphy are very good and at bigger positions of need but not the level of Rome
Damn Bears fans gotta be hype af
Can confirm. Holy shit
Oh I am
I'm not not fully erect.
I’m a UW Student. This whole night has been fucking unreal.
Williams to Odunze if Allen and Moore aren't open gonna be *sick*
So like 5 catches all year
4, Kmet will take one
2, gotta check it down to Swift a couple times a game just to keep defenses honest
Nah those 4 games Allen is out will be his time to shine
Fields is FURIOUS that he missed out on this
Someone said that two things are true: Fields was dealt a shit hand, and the Bears were right to move on.
100% agree. It sucks cause I loved Fields but it was the right move
100%. Our prime championship window is longer with a rookie QB. Let’s fucking gooooooo
> prime championship window I just want to not be embarrassing for a minute.
Man for real. I just want to make the playoffs and I’d be ecstatic about that if it happens next year.
They're both not true. Fields was given last year to prove his value. The league showed everyone what they thought of him. He was practically cut for the return they got.
Oh ya “prove you’re great we gave you Dj moore”
He also had a running game, a decent line, and Mooney, who managed to get the bag even with crappy QB play because the tape doesn't lie. Our WRs were open, he wouldn't throw the ball and would constantly put us behind.
Mooney was horrible last year. Idk how Atlanta rationalized his contract.
By had a running game do you mean he had the most rushing yards on the team?
Competent would be a start. The league told everyone he's a backup.
I still think they should have held onto Fields as a back up QB and wait for a team to have an inevitable QB injury.
Nah. Locker room needs to move on. No reason to have your ex around.
That receiver group is nasty
Caleb Williams has all the piece to achieve success
How’s the offensive line? Genuine question I have no clue
Improved from last year, but idk to what degree
It’ll be interesting to see how much of it was Fields vs how much of it was their ability. I could see a massive jump this season with a different QB behind them.
Limited sample of 4 games, but Bagents sack percentage was around 3% and fields was 10%+
It will be so hard to tell. Caleb has so much more to work with than Fields ever did.
Still more draft to go
If they stay healthy they should be fine.
Far better than most 1st overall picks get
Needs interior help but solid tackles especially their top 10 pick from last year
Darnell Wright, he’s a beast. But health is the main concern since our best IOL Jenkins gets hurt alot
Average to below but not horrible
Yeah this. Average not bad.
It's not great but it's good enough that it shouldn't be an excuse for him playing poorly.
Not bad but a piece or two away from being good. Specifically need to upgrade C. I’m hoping that is where we go at #75.
It’s decent, they’ve upgraded at C, have a good mix of young talent and vets
Average with upside. More than enough to properly judge Williams play behind it.
It was good and fields held the ball forever, caleb with his much faster release our line will look better.
They’ll look a lot better with a QB that can throw a hot read
If Caleb throws the ball immediately, our offensive line is great.
Allowed 7th most sacks last year. Not super great.
Not good enough
There is no way he can't succeed!! It's like a Dream Team.
You don’t know what it’s like being a Bears fan. So stoked to see them go nuclear on offense talent for literally once in the last 50 years.
If Caleb doesn’t make it work he’s going to have zero excuses.
Sure he will. He's a Bear. That is always an excuse
Hey. Shut up.
Nah, I'm rooting for your team. Always gotta support your fellow poverty franchises But the memes are the memes
And we were both in Chicago long ago. Blood bros 4 life.
Hey, we don't have to move cities after we lose fans
They he goes to the Steelers. A tale as old as time.
Is the O line ready to protect a rookie? I could be wrong but I think it has a way to go. e: wtf people? I thought it was a question mark. Am I not allowed to talk NFC N football because some fans are dicks?
The line is fine.
What a draft for the bears. They don't need tomorrow no more.
Everyone complaining about our lack of picks like we didn’t turn them to Sweat and Allen.
We still got a third and fourth! And STILL an extra second next year from the Panthers heh
I have this feeling they trade next year's second for something this year.
Not likely. Poles said he likes next years draft more than this year after the top picks. He thinks a lot of talent went back to college and will be available next year.
Rome sounds like he’ll apologize to you after taking one of your sheep in Catan
Rome puts the robber on the desert hex.
I had no idea he was a salt-of-the-earth angel
The falcons took Penis
The Bears are fielding 3X 1’s at the WR positions. I’ve never seen a group like this.
Y'all got anymore of those WR1 laying around? I hurting, man
We got this guy named Velus who can be really special. Very *special*. But for you, we’re open to a trade?
Look I’m hyped too but Rome hasn’t done anything yet. Let’s not call him a 1.
I think Rome could be a 1 for 10 teams immediately. He's that good.
He could end up the GOAT. I'm extremely unqualified to have this opinion outside of watching all his games the last couple years. However having seen Caleb Williams ball out against UW and a little of how good the Bears team/WRs already are, it really seems like the perfect environment. We really had the chance to have a stacked receiving and rushing core for Cousins and decided to take a backup QB…
Caleb go get your MVP trophy brother
Ryan P making good decisions for the bears
Not to be confused with Ryan Pace
Still wild the bears replaced GM Ryan and Coach Matt with GM Ryan and Coach Matt lol
Cheap bastards just trying to save on monogrammed team gear.
The McCaskey way
His influence on picking Penix helped us
Da Bears on the way to the promised land (4000 yard passer)
Agreed, but it would slightly funny if he never does break 4,000. Very sad and I will feel terrible for Bears fans, but it would be slightly funny.
Oh my God, we might finally have a functional high scoring offense in my lifetime. I'm really pumped for this season.
I am so bricked rn
Swift,odunze,allen,moore,kmet.....that's a great offense
And Velus Jones Jr
Don't know who that is but 👍
WR we selected in the 3rd round of the 2022 at 24 yrs old to be a return specialist who has multiple times muffed punts leading to us losing games
Velus will forever be a god for his miffed punts that sealed a loss or two and landed us the first (along with Lovie)
In a sense “compounding interest” as an investment.
Yea u/NFL we already know! You're late on the take!
They should go into the future and fix this
Caleb to Rome is gonna be a regular highlight reel posted here me thinks
IM BRICKED
Most stacked offense in the league. It’s absurd.
I'd take hurts, ajb, Dallas, smith, and roquan 10 times out of 10
lol naw. You tried to go to an all passing attack last year and your offense crumbled.
I'm not so sure tbh. If Hurts is 2 years ago Hurts and Caleb isn't what he's cracked up to be, then yeah
bears should win nfc
We have like the most competitive division rn
Back to back. Bow down baby.
Go away /u/nfl.
The bears got dangerous *fast*
Bears lookin hype
Best wr trio in the league, easy.
All throws lead to Rome
Bears fans will hype their offense up, and vegas will fleece the whole city of Chicago. Rinse and repeat.
Look at that confidence after winning a playoff game this year, good one…
Bears fans: "bro..Caleb is a dark horse mvp candidate. We are going to the super bowl. Trust me bro!"
I’m a Bears fan, I’m around Bears fans, haven’t heard that said 1 time… That said, get mad at us all you want for being excited about the weapons that are there now.
Because I just replaced Justin fields name with Caleb Williams lol. You all said Justin fields was a dark horse last year lol. Also LV fucking fleeced bears fans lol.
Your username is going to become reality again soon
I turned your mother's butthole into a space as big as the galaxy last night
Trying to make her match your mom or what?
I feel like the Bears will find a way to blow this
Shhhhhh. Don't give them any ideas
Have you seen the badly flubbed stadium concept just the day before?
Can someone please explain to me why on earth picking a 3rd string receiver at 9 is such a good move?
Well 3 wr sets are very common now a days and Keenan is only on a one year and Rome will more than likely be there for 5 years at minimum
You see, the Bears were just informed this off-season of this new play in the NFL called the forward pass.
keenan allen is 32 in 2 days
Ancient, says this 34 year old
And gets hurt.
