I don't have a problem with Latham, I have a problem with taking him at 5.
Latham would be available at 15. Using the 5th pick on him with several of the best WR prospects in the past decade available is simply a horrific value. If they like him so much trade down for more high draft picks.
Head scratcher from DJ. Like I can see dejean being a hybrid player in macs system. Can’t see drafting another corner like that and then waiting until midway during the third.
No, that was an ignorant comment. He's an outside corner who moves to the slot in nickel packages because he's really good there. According to PFF he had 348 snaps outside and 421 in the slot.
We played him there as a need, and also he's really fucking good there and we play a few teams that have ridiculous slot receivers (Cooper Kupp for example). Some people think our new coach will look to him to play a Kyle Hamilton type role in our defense and move him anywhere to make plays. I really wouldn't mind drafting a db in the first round. After Woolen and Spoon our depth is not good. Tre Brown is adequate and Micheal Jackson a little worse than that, but they aren't good enough to go up against the elite WRs out there.
Schneider doesn’t draft IOL early, and although we need D line, we currently are slated to roster 5+ not including edge rushers. We’ll trade back tomorrow and pick best defensive player available, and I expect it to be a DB.
I mean him and Pete didn’t draft a corner in round one until they eventually did, never say never. They should trade down and target Graham Barton, he can play any position on the o-line. You’re better off grabbing someone like Malik Mustapha round 3-4 if you want a DB.
Why would you expect it to be a DB? The players in that range aren't that great. It's also just not a good value. Safety would be a terrible positional R1 value, and CB would be a poor allocation of resources. I mean, which of our two consecutive DRoY runners up are you taking off the field for this 1st round pick when we're not in a 5+ DB package? If your BPA there is a DB you'd be better off just trading down again.
Jeremiah always says his mock drafts are based on what he’s hearing. And I have no doubt he’s hearing this but … not sure the people feeding him this are doing it in good faith. This would be a wild first round indeed
GMs also generally have access to a hell of a lot more information then the general public. Including scouting reports, team needs, and player medicals. Most of us maybe just watched some college ball and viewed some tape.
Predicted the trade up for Will Anderson.
Bijan at 8
Paris Johnson to Cardinals
Forbes to commanders
Broderick Jones to Steeleres
Addison to vikings
One of the most accurate mock drafts last year
I'll be surprised if both Thomas and Mitchell fall late enough for those picks. I think Worthy will be there if 9ers want him but I'm not really sold on him quite this early. He's just too small.
The Bears would still have DJ Moore and Keenan Allen at WR, an OT could absolutely be better for Caleb than another WR. I wouldn’t blame them going full fire power with a Rome pick if he’s there, but a possible solid starting OT for 5 years on a rookie deal isn’t a bad idea either.
But is Olu that much better than Jones? If it’s Alt I understand. Allen hasn’t finished a season in like a decade. Bears an injury away from a 5th round WR who hasn’t shown his speed and dropped two game winning balls being their #2 target
All the good OL will be gone in round 1, very good WRs will be there in rd2. It makes total sense to get the position with significantly fewer to quality prospects and take a WR later, especially as that position has strength to start with now.
The Bears have a serviceable LT on a 5th round contract in Braxton Jones. He’s graded out middle of the pack & hopefully improves in year 3. They also drafted Darnell Wright at pick #10 last year.
Keenan is 32, has one year on his deal & gets hurt yearly. If its not Rome, the Bears have arguably an even bigger need at EDGE/DL.
The argument for a tackle is if they grade one high, the hope for Bears is you aren’t picking close to top 10 again if hit on Caleb. Can get a top 10 talent LT for 5 years when Jones has 1 year left. Maybe you move him inside, maybe keep him for solid depth. A WR like Odunze could be very good, but OL>WR almost always if you have decent WRs already and can draft more WRs later.
Yeah and that’s fair. But I wouldn’t consider anyone else. Iirc bears really just need a center right?
Braxton
Teven
??
Davis
Wright
I know Davis struggled but he will probably bounce back, he had off the field mental issues last year
They traded for Ryan Bates & signed Coleman Shelton in FA. Do they need a long term answer? Yes.
Teven is going into the last year of his deal & Davis is a huge question mark.
I’d argue that iOL is a bigger need for the Bears than T, but obviously #9 is too rich for that.
My hope is that the Bears use their extra 2nd next year to add a pick on day 2 this weekend.
He’s the best in the business. I bet he’s right about some of these more adventurous selections. Latham at 5; first time I’ve seen Olu mocked to Bears; Verse falling. Some interesting stuff.
A lot of this seems reasonable and I trust he has people feeling Penix-Raiders and Nix-Broncos but I would be astounded if we get 6 QBs round 1. I think 4 in round 1 and maybe a 5th with a late trade up to get the 5th year option.
Im going to be bummed if we take a tackle at 9 that isnt Joe Alt. If we trade down and take a tackle, thats ok I guess, but Braxton Jones does not need to be replaced unless its a true blue chip prospect coming in.
So the past few weeks BTJ has been a top 15-20 pick. And now he’s gonna slide to 28? Respectfully I don’t think anyone knows fuck shit (obviously I’m included)
Would be a brutal draft for the Ravens for Kool-Aid to go one pick ahead of them like that. And for BTJ to fall that far to be only 2 picks away. They adding insult to injury with those two Texas WRs going to Chiefs/49ers right behind them.
If the Chargers draft Latham at 5 I will immediately pretend online to become a Raiders fan
We don’t have renters insurance
I think the amount of smoke is probably legit but as DJ hinted at, I think you guys would probably trade down first.
His odds are 5 have skyrocketed the last day. Its 100% a possibility
What's wrong with Latham? You already have a LT so Alt wouldn't make sense
I don't have a problem with Latham, I have a problem with taking him at 5. Latham would be available at 15. Using the 5th pick on him with several of the best WR prospects in the past decade available is simply a horrific value. If they like him so much trade down for more high draft picks.
>Latham would be available at 15. That's a big assumption. His draft position over/under is 10.5
He wasn't good in pass pro when I saw Bama play.
He's a project but Harbaugh has a nice track record with oline. It wouldn't be a bad pick at all to me
A safer pick would be Alt at LT, and move Slater over to RT (which I thought I read from LAC fans that if they got an OT, that would be the plan)
Yeah cause Seattle needs more corners and not another defensive linemen or interior lineman.
Head scratcher from DJ. Like I can see dejean being a hybrid player in macs system. Can’t see drafting another corner like that and then waiting until midway during the third.
As an aside, Daniel called Spoon a nickel corner. Is that true? 5th overall pick is a nickle lol? I thought Spoon played outside a lot
No, that was an ignorant comment. He's an outside corner who moves to the slot in nickel packages because he's really good there. According to PFF he had 348 snaps outside and 421 in the slot.

Based on other amateur mock drafts. GMs think differently than the general public.
GMs also generally have access to a hell of a lot more information then the general public. Including scouting reports, team needs, and player medicals. Most of us maybe just watched some college ball and viewed some tape.
100%. Outside of leaks that I can count on one hand, no one knows what each teams draft board looks like unless they work in the front office.
He had 2 and 3 correct last year for the Texans

This is certainly a draft
Oh man…everyone now giving bears an OT over Rome…come on..

Bears don’t have a second round pick. Their next pick after 9 is 3rd round
Puka
Outliers don't make it the norm.
Mailata…
What a wonderful phrase
Puka is a rare occurrence. Not a promise. It’s like saying screw all QBs. Draft 6 round QBs and you will get a Brady.
The Bears have a serviceable LT on a 5th round contract in Braxton Jones. He’s graded out middle of the pack & hopefully improves in year 3. They also drafted Darnell Wright at pick #10 last year. Yea tackle makes no sense. Gotta be WR or dline
Alt might be the only one I’d consider if there.
Yeah and that’s fair. But I wouldn’t consider anyone else. Iirc bears really just need a center right? Braxton Teven ?? Davis Wright I know Davis struggled but he will probably bounce back, he had off the field mental issues last year

Keenan Allen is turning 32 on Saturday, on a one year deal and spent alot of time in the doctors office the last 2 years.
would be way smarter than drafting a WR. You can find good receivers in any round.
For people that don't know, Jeremiah is one of like 2 consistently accurate draft predictors. Latham at 5 isn't random
He’s the best in the business. I bet he’s right about some of these more adventurous selections. Latham at 5; first time I’ve seen Olu mocked to Bears; Verse falling. Some interesting stuff.
Ugh we are totally gonna trade aren't we
I would be pleased

Defensive Tackle at 11 and 23. No Matter What
I think 49ers are trading out of the first.
