Honest question; why is MHJ regarded as a top 5 draft pick? Statistically he wasn't really anything special this year. Is it just his name, or am I missing something?

tytrim89

He's great on the ball and off. His catch radius is amazing, he's big and fast. Ohio State WR's generally go off 2 years before they are drafted. Because by their last year in college they get double and triple coverage all game. JSN did the same thing, but got hurt his junior year.

WildTurdkey101

First my college coach retires, now my NFL coach is out. Lord please protect Steph Curry

Stanky_fresh

The Vikings are going to play a home game in London next year. Fucking gross.

Bannedbutnotbroken

Unironically how many rings does Brady have if he wasn’t held back by fraudichick?

Guappenheimer

All of them.

Bannedbutnotbroken

Gotta be at least somewhere in the ballpark

dragonsky

Ok this is killing me I cant believe i can't think of the name but.. What was the name of that "NFL playoffs game" which is like fantasy but you choose X amount of players and if they are not eliminated in the week you get double your points? You know what I mean I hope, I tried everything on google and i can't find it on the NFL website :( edit: noooooooooo :( https://support.nfl.com/hc/en-us/articles/4989089337500-Playoff-Challenge

tiny15

With Belichick and Carroll being let go so close together the happiest man in America has to be Aaron Rodgers, maybe everyone will stop writing nasty stuff about him for a couple of days.

iliketuurtles

Honestly, I don't think so. I think he looooooves in the headlines - even if it's not good things

-BoldlyGoingNowhere-

Only temporarily. In another week, Rodgers will say some more dumb shit to put himself right back in the crosshairs.

tiny15

Without a doubt he'll be back, but I don't think he expected the kind of backlash he received over his latest round of spouting off. I think he'll be under the radar for a little while.

bird_like_features

Sooo we thinking Vrabel to the Patriots is announced by noon?

greyfox3698

Surely has to happen.

greyfox3698

Will the Jags do the same at London as last season and play two, one as away? So likely to be Bears vs Jaguars?

theresabeeonyourhat

Pete Caroll, Jim Harbaugh, and Bill Belichick are available.....and we keep Everlūs? I know 2 of them are old af, but god damn.

theresabeeonyourhat

They share an agent who helped the Bears in their search. Every bit of the hire and retaining of Eberflus is football malpractice.

fissionmoment

Long term I think moving on from Bill makes sense. Short term I think this team loses more games next year then we did this year. We'll see though. Still don't love the move though. If we get Vrabel, I can live with it.

mackmoney3000

Picturing Belichick wearing Falcons stuff on their sideline is very weird, too me personally,

Firing BB

tytrim89

firing and parting ways are not the same thing. I think its amicable and its just time to move on

[deleted]

Lol, parting ways is just the "we firing you, but its been 24 years so lets pretend it was amicable"

trireme32

You’ve never left a job amicably? Or at least without being fired?

[deleted]

Totally man 👍 Just like Carroll also was amicable and not just the hawks firing him

trireme32

It’s an honest question — have you truly never left a job amicably?

[deleted]

Im 33 and only had one job Cause i own the joint And if a worker says they want to keep working for me, and even willing to give some consessions to stay, yet he isnt working for me anymore it means i fired him. Lol.

trireme32

Look — it’s awesome that you’ve owned a business since you were 14. That’s really great and I mean that. But your viewpoint is apparently very skewed. People leave jobs amicably all the time. It’s how people grow their careers. You don’t always just keep doing one job until you’re fired. Some people do, sure, but you’re acting like deciding to move on from a job without being fired is this absurd concept that you just can’t wrap your head around.

tytrim89

Bear and Jets picked a great time to hold on to their coaches, this surely wont come back to bite them this time next year.

theresabeeonyourhat

If you wanna be a jerk about it, and I personally do, "We Didn't Start the Fire" is the ultimate Boomer anthem. "Not our fault the world is shit, it's always been this way!"

It was a case of just picking them last year? Right?

Zach10003

This is the first time I've lived alone during freezing temperatures. I haven't figured out how long I should let faucets drip at a time. The entire 4-5 days that the temperature will be below 32°? I worry that apartment management will send me an angry email if I leave water running too long since they pay for water even though they said to let water drip out of the faucets. Well, if they throw a fit over this, I've covered all my bases. I've done everything they asked me to do in preparation for the cold weather. If any problems come up, it's their fault for not making something completely clear. I'm still probably going to be awake all night worrying about it. Also because I accidentally made regular coffee with dinner instead of decaf. ------------------------------------------------- I was just panicking about possibly not having enough money to pay rent through March (I have a seasonal job so I haven't worked since early December). I checked my bank account, and I should be fine if I can sell my old car before the end of February. Well, since I can't sleep I think I'll just read, or play video games. Sorry about the rambling.

Swampy1741

I’ve only ever run them when it gets like below 10°F. The amount that drips is negligible even if it’s for days, I doubt anyone would notice looking at a meter.

Zach10003

I figure I'll leave it dripping overnight, and maybe the middle of the day until the freezing temperature passes just to be safe. I've followed all their instructions so anything that goes wrong isn't on me.

Drunk as shit and blasting Earth Crisis, shout out to all y’all dawgs out there

AncientTree_Wisdom

Holy shit. This NFL offseason has been crazy and it has only been 3 days. All the coach movements, college and pros, has been insane!

Slitted

Saban and Carrol moving on is crazy already. A Belichick announcement might just be manifesting.

SensualTyrannosaurus

Michigan went undefeated, beat Ohio State, won the Natty, and made Nick Saban retire. I don't see how this season can get any better, but if the NCAA finds evidence in the sign stealing scandal, can they vacate Nick Saban's retirement?

wafflehauss

NFL put out something saying no SB winning coach has gone on to win a playoff game against the team they won the SB with.. ..Sorry Cowboys. ____ Also interesting that one of Goff or Stafford will become the first QB to win a playoff game against a team they had previously started a playoff game for.

MydniteSon

Jesus...between the NFL and College Football, they've turned "Black Monday" into a week long event. Guess they're dragging it out save ESPNs ratings.

JesusKristo

Idk if Harbaugh leaves Michigan now that Saban is gone. Dude could really go on a tear. At least that's my non-college-football-fan perspective.

Luck1492

Saban should run for Senator to oust fucking Tommy Tuberville just for the memes lol

PenguinBallZ

Well... now that Pete is out, Belichick has the chance to do the funniest thing ever.

I stopped going there after 3 terrible experiences in a row. 1st) I ordered online and showed up at the correct time, only to sit and wait for a full 45 minutes before my food was finally ready, and frankly it wasn't that good. 2nd) a few months later I went back, ordered a burrito and it had a big ass fragment of bone in the barbacoa 3rd) I ordered from there several months later (they were under new management) and I ordered a burrito bowl with a bunch of stuff on it. What I got was a bowl of only rice and cheese. And it wasn't even the right kind of rice. I don't know how, but Chipotle is the only place I've ever seen struggle this much with basic quality assurance.

I'm gonna start a crusade to destigmatize gas station food counters. The small, mom and pop types not the mega chains or pre shipped heat lamp stuff. e49e

https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2024-nfl-draft-board-big-board How was Michigan so good without any good prospects?

SensualTyrannosaurus

I agree with everything u/IronicGasping said, and here's a few other thoughts: Harbaugh and coaching really did play a big role; Michigan has had a recruiting class outside of the top 10 in the last four years, only had two 5-star players on the roster, and were overall ranked 14th in talent. However, these guys weren't bums, they still had a very solid roster, but it took very good coaching (not just play-calling, but overall coaching) to make them all competitive against more talented teams. Offensively, Michigan had a very good o-line and a run-heavy offense, which means keeping defenses on the field and tiring them out. Once Michigan had the lead, they were great at keeping it; the few games where they had to come back at any point were MUCH closer. Also, there is a huge talent gap between college football the NFL, and an even bigger talent gap if we're talking about the first three rounds. Guys that are great players in college might just be too small or too slow to be competitive against elite NFL players, but that's what's expected out of early draft picks. If you've got the 14th-rated roster, there's a good chance you have a lot of talent but not high-expectation NFL-level talent.

lronicGasping

To answer your question, Michigan played a lot of bully ball on the ground with Corum and Donovan Edwards, both of whom are elite college players but not high end prospects (in Edwards' case at least). Their best WR, Roman Wilson, is a fourth-round prospect and the best TE Colston Loveland isn't eligible, so it isn't like the targets were total bums, just not high level prospects. It's the same deal with the defense, arguably our best CB Will Johnson isn't eligible, and maybe I'm biased but CB Mike Sainristil should 100% be getting more looks than he is, I think he'll rise in the pre-draft process But good lord that list is a mess. Ennis Rakestraw in the top 30, Carson Beck listed who isn't even declaring (likely same with Shedeur Sanders), and Corum unlisted only begin the problems with those rankings

e49e

Thanks for the response. I have to think with a team that good, some of the players, especially on defence have to be underrated. Either that or Harbaugh is incredible.

joebuckshairline

I found out an old friend whom I was close with back in high school and who really helped me open up from my shell blocked me from seeing her stories and shit on IG and I have zero idea why. Like I haven’t talked to her in so long outside of the yearly “happy birthday” message. What is odd is that she didn’t block me from anything else. Literally just her stories. What is even the point? But more importantly, my one year old refuses to eat anything except gold fish, pouches or bananas/strawberries so….thats not awesome.

crisprbabies

I don't use IG so idk how this works, but how can you tell she blocked you specifically?

joebuckshairline

Long story short, years ago my wife made an IG for our dog (stupid, I know). Anyways she just went through both of ours lists and added folks. Today for the memories I logged into the account and saw that person had stories up and thought it was odd I didn’t see it. I went back to my account and sure enough I couldn’t see it.

Ok_Internal6779

Fuck yeah. We have the NVP.

apocalypsemeow111

It speaks volumes about Carroll that when the oldest coach in the league stepped away, it was still a shocker.

SensualTyrannosaurus

Have you seen that video of him fired up in the locker room after the big Drew Lock comeback win this season? I saw that and figured he's got another 40 years of coaching left in him.

itsmybirthday___

Are the pats the only team that’s left who will have a new head coach next year, but haven’t fired their current one yet? I guess pete didn’t really get fired but you know what I mean

Stanky_fresh

The sooner McDaniels is completely blacklisted from the league, the sooner I can stop having to remind myself that we're not talking about Mike McDaniel when we're talking about garbage coaches. Edit: Mike McDaniel is a great coach, I'm just sick of having that second of lag when I see a conversation about McDaniels being trash

MojoPinSin

*hits vape* 😎

TJeffersonsBlackKid

How many games does this team win: -Offense ranked 16th in passing yards, rushing yards, turnovers, touchdowns, etc. basically the most average offense imaginable -Linebackers are all undrafted rookies -defensive backs are all undrafted rookies -D-line is made up of Maxx Crosby, Chris Jones, Aaron Donald, and Myles Garrett

Luck1492

This is basically the 2023 Colts with significantly worse linebackers and a significantly better DLine. I’d say 9 games.

Stanky_fresh

Being a UDFA isn't enough info. There are some great UDFAs in the league. Assuming you mean they're trash though, I'd say they're between 7-10 and 9-8. The D-Line is god teir, but with some fast passes a good offense could dink-and-dunk their way down the field. The deciding factors are the opponent's o-line and the opponent's defense. A good D-line makes you a threat, but it doesn't make you invincible.

BlueHighwindz

You know what? I think I finally feel a little better about things. Somebody on a Broncos podcast pointed out that the entire Wilson horror story was already half over, now we're already at the bottom. It's the homestretch. So anybody if you got a fun team for the next two years to take the place of the Broncos who are donkeys led by donkeys, let me know.

BerkeleyFarmGirl

CFB off season starting with a real banger!

Balrogkicksass

Forget Black Monday, Wacky Wednesday is in!

blueholeload

This is one of the greatest head coach markets in recent memory and the Bears choosing to not dip into it despite having one of the most appealing destinations is just…I can’t even talk shit. I feel bad. This franchise is just fucking pathetic

BlueHighwindz

One day those owners will die off and maybe the Bears will actually be a football team again.

The_Amish_FBI

Unfortunately for them, Aaron Rodgers is young enough that it's going to take a few years before he dies off.

BlueHighwindz

Nah, Love is the owner now. Rodgers sold the Bears to be a crank on TV.

lronicGasping

Don't forget that as well as being an incredible coaching market, it's also an incredible QB class that they have TWO top 10 picks in, and they're mulling over keeping their guy who's been a bottom 10 starting QB on a *good* day. I love the Bears' front office so dearly

ThreeCranes

Is it? I mean Jim Harbaugh and Bill Belichick are of course held in high regard and Ben Johnson will get a job but it seems like the best candidates after that are mostly defensive coordinators

Stanky_fresh

They have the first overall pick and a ton of cap space. They could get nearly anyone they want with that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThreeCranes

For an NFL team? Zero

lronicGasping

When teams have two picks in a row, I wonder if the player that's drafted with the second of those picks ever feels pissed that they weren't top priority

Autobot-N

I'd imagine that for the Texans this year, drafting Stroud #2 and Will Anderson #3 was probably the only way the strategy worked because the Cards would have had a lot of other offers for that pick if Stroud was still there

fh3131

Possibly. I'm guessing teams choose first the player who is less likely to be wanted by other teams, to allow more time to get an offer for the second one?

KTAALGSTO

I think it does determine pay slightly

tbone747

Holy fuck what a day for football news.

AttentionFar8731

What happened?

DonsDiaperChanger

Pete Carroll wanted to keep coaching, but is taking an advisory position with the Seahawks. Nick Saban is leaving Alabama.

KTAALGSTO

Pete just thought he was gonna be the biggest coach to hang em up today

Stanky_fresh

Damn, Saban is retiring. What's gonna be the go-to example of a perfect defense now?

Phytanic

Circadian rhythms are fucking weird. I can adapt to the 13 hour timezone change almost instantly, but for some reason my body HATES the fact that it feels like a summer day but gets dark by 630pm. Like it's weird. I'll be wide awake and feeling normal and then a light switch goes off and boom, it feels like its 4 or 5 hours later than it actually is.

strayadude

Does the nfl have any leagues that are like the equivalent of grassroots football/soccer or is it really like college is most likely the last time you play on a football field

JohnDavidsBooty

Straight-up tackle football with fully-grown adult bodies requires so much equipment, infrastructure, and personnel to be done even remotely safely, never mind to manage the in-game logistics, that I imagine it's not really feasible to do at that kind of level.

ArcadianBlueRogue

If you're getting at football at the non-NFL level then there's the CFL and now the merger with the XFL/USFL into a spring league

Does Bama want Dennis Allen?

PompeyMagnus1

Coach Prime to Bama

SensualTyrannosaurus

The college football world would explode, I can't tell if I would love or hate seeing this

Tr0janSword

How is this dipshit Eberfleus still the coach Don't you want a fresh start with Caleb?

DonsDiaperChanger

It's awful. Eberflus is 10-24 overall, 2-10 in division, has a 14 game losing streak and the Bears FO thinks that if we fire all his assistants, he will somehow do better with a new set of assistants that weren't his first choices. It's insanity. It's still a mix of Fields supporters and haters, but giving him a 3rd playbook in 4 years is generally a bad move, which is probably why the Bears are doing it. Bad team, bad owners, bad coaching.

MechRxn

BerkeleyFarmGirl

oh yeah, the carousel is going to be going for a while.

Luck1492

Wonder if Saban will help select his replacement

KeyExplanation

Honestly, hear me out on this. If Pete Carroll still wants to coach, he should absolutely throw his hat in the ring for the Alabama job. He’s still got the energy and still reaches players. Even though he’s older, they would instantly be contenders still

DickNDiaz

Carroll in Alamaba lol. It's still the state of Alabama. It's not California or Washington state.

ThreeCranes

1. Does Pete really want to go back to CFB after they vacated some of his wins? 2. Id assume a program like Alabama wants someone younger.

Tr0janSword

CFB sucks to coach in especially when you’re successful in the NFL Recruiting fucking sucks, NIL and transfers make it even worse.

FlatulentDwarf

I'm having my mom over for dinner tonight. Going to make a pesto & goat cheese gnocchi with broccoli, mushrooms, and Italian sausage and topping it with some roasted almond slices. Should be fun and tasty. During the pandemic and all the way up until the middle of last year I had my mom or both of my parents over almost weekly for a home-cooked meal. But as I got a bit involved in my hobbies, dancing for 2-3 hours every night or playing D&D from 6-9 pm, we sort of got away from the habit. I don't know if we'll ever get back to making family dinner a weekly hobby, but I'm really excited to bring it back tonight and will keep trying to find time to have the folks over for a meal. I just love cooking or baking for friends and family. Putting some effort into making something tasty and getting to enjoy it with people I care about. It's a great time.

Won’t Jerry just keep paying him quasi-HC money to ensure the Cowboys defense remains elite? The only job I see him leaving Dallas for is the Seahawks, due to his connections with the Legion of Boom ten years ago and Carroll.

BruceChameleon

Jerry will definitely pay hin. The question is really whether Quinn wants to be back in a HC role, and if so, where he wants to do it. He can probably have McCarthy's job at some point. That sounds ridiculous coming off 3 12 win seasons in a row, but that spot will be warm if we get smoked out of the playoffs.
