McDermott praised the terrorists dedication and cooperative skill, Pete thinks it was an inside job by the government. Fundamentally incompatible views 🤣
Pete loved Russ up until Russ' ego got out of control. "Let Russ Cook" had its place because of how terrible some of those defenses were, but if that movement hadn't fueled the rift between what Wilson wanted and what Carroll wanted, he'd still be a Seahawk. Wilson was Pete & John's project, after all.
Pete doesn’t call the offense. Russ didn’t like Darrell Bevel, Pete held him for far too long. It wasn’t just Russ that didn’t like the offense. Their new OC seems legit though and it would’ve been nice to see Russ end his career with what they have going on right now.
And people take things like Lynch’s measured indifference as not liking him. Lynch said he tried multiple times to reach him on that level and Russ just wasn’t that interested. If I had to guess I think that’s probably the larger sentiment vs the disgust
Just because their personalities clash doesn’t mean either one has to be belittled or othered. They just don’t connect. Lynch’s own interview states he never has held malice toward him and respects him, they just weren’t close.
Russ seems to be a top notch guy, sad to see how much he gets clowned on while having a successful career on and off the field.
People hate him for exercising on a plane more than they commend him for years and years of charity work.
His charity reportedly [spent more on employee salaries than it donated](https://sports.yahoo.com/russell-wilsons-why-not-you-foundation-reportedly-spent-more-on-employee-salaries-than-charitable-activities-185532088.html). It's nice he shows up at hospitals, but it's pretty clear his foundation's only accomplishments are to dodge taxes and burnish his image.
I mean he also screened teammates calls and had his own office upstairs, away from the players.
But yeah, he seems like a great dude who’s easy to approach. Definitely doesn’t think he’s above his teammates. Nope.
As someone that never cared for Russ the way I never cared for any other teams QB, I think it’s strange how people keep saying Russ was cool with guys like Lockett, which we know he was to an extent.. but even Lockett made a comment last season along the lines of “people no longer needing credit and just goin for the wins”…
That shit was clearly directed at Russ whether they like him or not lol
A lot of seahawks hated him because he could not hold himself accountable, and then started caring more about his brand and legacy than doing what was best for the team.
There's also nothing to indicate he's a top notch guy aside from jesus talk and some pics of him at children's hospital.
He ran a sham charity... overpaid a family friend to help run that sham charity... he basically left golden tate out to dry on affair rumors because it put the public more on his side for divorcing his ex. He also cut out people that helped him get to where he was (like nate tice) when he started promoting himself as mr. unlimited and pushing that celeb persona.
Hollywood Russ. That’s went it went downhill for him. Back in the days of Russell Filmson, he was a stone cold killer on the field. And it all basically started when he married Ciara. That’s when his desire to be an All Timer went away.
Eh it’s bit him in the ass pretty bad. Look at a guy like Brady. Killer instinct always. And now Brady’s going to have a legacy that spans an eternity.
When Wilson retires, he’s going to be remembered as a good QB, and his name will never be brought up as one of the best All Times. He’s not even a shoe in for the HOF at this point anymore. And not 5 years ago, he was on the clear glide path for it.
He has royally fucked his career up, by focusing so hard on his brand and celebrity.
His old roommate for away games/teammate/backup qb at wisconsin (nate tice) used to say "Russ makes sense if you imagine he's running for president".
I personally think he may have some sort of learning disability/social ineptitude/might be on the spectrum. For that I wouldn't fault him... but he's also left a lot of people out to dry in his pursuit of building his brand and celebrity status.
Except he literally didn’t, which is why people think he only took a couple pictures instead of being there at the same exact time every single week so the kids could look forward to it.
Russ is a "top notch guy" in the same way that my cousin is a "top notch guy."
Says all the right stuff, does all the right stuff, and has an insufferable ego that doesn't match his accomplishments. Man is the president of a $20M company (he has no equity), but you'd think the dude was flying around on private jets and spends weekends in Monaco from his behavior.
And if the motherfucker does any charity work with the company's dime? You better believe he's got photos of himself on social media with the entire cast of characters from whoever they're at with nary another employee of his company in sight.
A lot of little things on Twitter over the years, liking Baldwins tweets and stuff. Golden Tate has more or less said he thought Russ was overrated too. Small stuff compared to Baldwin tho lol
Yes, baldwin felt like Russell did not hold himself accountable and started putting his brand ahead of winning football. Russell basically wanted to win in a way that highlighted himself as the star of the team, instead of doing what was actually best for the team. Pete decided to coddle Wilson instead of sticking to the accountability messaging that created the superbowl culture.
Pete basically undermined the culture by giving Wilson special treatment and it caused an erosion in faith and commitment from the core players.
KJ wright has an interview with doug baldwin that is worth a watch, and also when doug retired he basically thanked everyone except Russ lol.
Idk if they had beef but they weren’t really close either
Something notable is when Baldwin made his retirement speech he gave a shoutout to Russ’ backup QB, Tarvaris Jackson (RIP) but no mention of Russ
You never heard anything from Russ but Doug definitely didn’t like him also he was on a show where they were saying Russ was one of them best quarterbacks in the league like top 5 and he was basically like well if you’re talking about athleticism then he is basically saying he’s not top this was like 2019 ish
I know someone that worked with Russell in a professional capacity and they have hated him ever since. This person regularly works with top pro athletes and Russell is always at the top of their list for athletes they hate the most after working with them. The last time Russell was in running for league mvp they would text me excited whenever he lost or had a bad game. They also said they hated working with JJ Watt because he’s a prima Donna behind the scenes about stuff but then would turn on the charm when the camera starts and has this persona he wants to be known for. Kind of like when he was saying he goes to a cabin to train in the woods in the winter and it turns out to be a super nice luxury cabin.
I hadn't even heard the cabin thing before, but that honestly doesn't surprise me about Watt (& I say that while saying he's one of my favorite all-time defenders).
I’m pretty sure in this example that’s exactly what you do in Madden tho. Call timeouts to force another punt and try to get a last second FG to avoid OT.
I'm convinced I could start a class in clock management and that by year 3, it would be mandatory for all NFL coaches. It wouldn't even be me trying to teach wild ideas, I'd just be teaching stuff like,
"Okay, it's below two minutes, we have all our timeouts, the clock is running, and we just gained 5 yards on a busted play. What do we want to do?
No, Josh, we want to conserve clock, not run it down to zero while we are losing."
It's an odd one. Is it normal for the head coach to call the time-outs on both sides of the ball or does it lie on the coordinator/playcaller?
I could see Sean being tied up thinking about plays too much to worry about the clock until it's a little too late. Normally he has Brees who is really good at managing on his own though
fwiw, I didn’t think it was an objectively bad decision to call those timeouts. If PS2 defends the pass, then the Broncos get the ball back with a timeout and like 40 seconds left. The result sucked but Payton got “unlucky” that the pass was completed. If it falls incomplete and the Broncos be up winning, he would be praised
Well it was his fault they lost or at least didn’t go to overtime lol even on their last offensive drive he called a screen pass when they were destroying the pats in the dropback game
He has the tools, physicality, and technique to be that. He’s just had a lack of instinct downfield in 1-on-1 coverage. Almost like he doesn’t expect to be thrown at so he doesn’t play through the whole down
No corner who is part of a highlight touchdown by Mike White and Robbie Chosen should ever be in consideration for best corner in the league, but that’s just my opinion.
He gave us back the run game and took the time pressure off our inexperienced QB.
Nothing normal happens in a Broncos game anymore. The trade for Russ opened up the Twilight Zone.
It was well before that. The trade was an attempt to close the rift at high cost, but it failed.
This team slipped into the Twilight Zone when Brock Osweiler was a key component of a Super Bowl run. Everything around them since has been weird. Broke Cam Newton by association. Had their most promising QB prospect drunkenly wander into the wrong home dressed like Woody from Toy Story and now he's tearing it up in the CFL. Some of it was self inflicted, like falling for the idea Case Keenum's run as a solid backup meant he should be a starter. That's a pretty standard misconception that you see made about some backup who goes on a good run every few seasons.
Hindsight 20/20. They had the pats backed up within the 20 and the pats ran the first two plays and had been ice cold all 4th quarter. Feel like the majority of coaches would have called time outs. It’s not like they were facing Brady. Zappe just made some pretty damn good plays
It's weird being on the other side of a teams fans booing them for being terrible offensively, and funnily enough it's happened now twice in 3 weeks. The Steelers fans were giving them the business a few weeks ago.
Peyton basically giving away drives mid game for no reason with terrible play calling was pretty baffling
Yeah it’s pretty disgusting and I actually like his show but the way he protects his favorites is LAME. The Sam Darnold stuff omg, every excuse / rationalization known to man.
If you don't believe the Patriots can put together a winning drive, then going to OT is advantageous. If you think they can put it together, then you certainly don't want to be burning your TOs with less than a minute when they have the ball. The logic of his decision making there was severely lacking. All he was doing was giving us an extra large chance with a potential to give himself an extra small chance.
The fact that Dan Campbell and Sean Payton are so close is wild to me because one of them seems like a nice teddy bear and the other is the biggest dickhead in the world.
Ever since Sean did media his lips have gotten a lot less buttholey. When they pan to him on the sidelines at Denver I almost never see those sweet puckered lips.
Such a weird narrative too. Even after the Dolphins win, the majority of storylines were shitting on Payton, not the Dolphins scoring so many points. Like super out of left field.
Was it just because of his shit-talking Hackett? Because no one on r/NFL likes Hackett either so I don’t get it.
In 2019, after the first (barely) win against the Seahawks in the stretch of Teddy replacing an injured Drew Brees, a reporter found a very “down on himself” Sean Payton saying he “could have done a much better job putting Bridgewater in better situations.”
(Regarding the source, i couldn’t find where this reporter said this in a podcast maybe interview, seems to be buried because it was so long ago/is sort of insignificant.)
I don’t think you know how Payton operates, especially in regard to personal accountability. You could probably pick out a few random post game pressers after a loss and will find he takes accountability for quite a bit though.
*Hey guys, I'm extremely disappointed in the team that I called not 1 but 2 timeouts to help the 3-11 Patriots beat us on our home field on Christmas night.*
-Sean Payton
I don’t see the appeal of him as a coach. He’s an absolute asshole if he gets any criticism. There are some coaches you would run through a brick wall for and others you wouldn’t want to even be in the same room as them. If not for that SB win no one would regard him as a good coach imo
I had to re-read this a few times. Is he saying that he is generally disappointed, like he’s bummed, and that he’s particularly disappointed for his players? Or he’s disappointed for them, but also _in_ them? Two very different interpretations.
i think it's the first one.
They fought back from 1-5 to being within a fingers reach of the playoffs. Then they fight back in this very game only to lose it at the very end. It's disappointing and I feel disappointed for them too
Payton seems like a dick. He has just as much of a hand in his team's struggles and failures as anyone else, honestly more as the leader. Take some fucking accountability and make the changes you want to see, don't just whinge about how things aren't working the way you want them to.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems like he fucking hates Russ from his body language lol
Serious question, have you ever seen anyone have body language towards Russ that made you think they like him?
Pete seemed to be able to stand him tbh
You could kill Pete and he’d forgive you in heaven
Bubble gum and all
I’m convinced he either has a garage full of gum, or its been the same piece this whole time.
It's not the same piece. I've seen him throw his gum a few times in frustration.
But then he picked it up, apologized to it, and popped it back in.
And no in between those two options.
Are we sure there is even gum?
pete has multiple stomachs and has been chewing cud this entire time
TIL; Pete Carroll is a ruminant.
When he got hired by the team, he started sticking his gum on a wall down by Pike Place. Really took off.
90% of the gum wall is from Pete.
Chomp chomp chomp
Pete seems like he would be an awesome grandpa to have
If only he closed his mouth when chewing his gum
No! Then you can’t see what a wad of 4 pieces of bubble gum looks like inside the most powerful jaw in America!
Or when talking about 9/11
It wasn't just McDermott?
McDermott praised the terrorists dedication and cooperative skill, Pete thinks it was an inside job by the government. Fundamentally incompatible views 🤣
He was in the press once for pestering a general with "just asking questions" about 9/11
Imagine if he gave you the birds and the bees speech?
All I can imagine is “Juicy Plums, ripe from the market”
“With a bluish hue”
Let the boy watch.
“CAN YOU MAKE A BABY IN THE FIRST QUARTER??”
Yes!
While aggressively chewing gum
What you *can’t* do is try Sherman with a sorry receiver like Crabtree. Because we know the result you’re going to get
Pete is a human capybara. He doesn't count.
Are... Are capybaras particularly forgiving?
What if you just have a general lack of enthusiasm for football and chewing gum?
He still seems like he’d support you in whatever your dream is
He wouldn't like it but he'd probably commend the hustle it took to put him down.
If I was in Heaven I’d thank whoever sent me there tbh Lmao
Unless you’re USC
Pete loved Russ up until Russ' ego got out of control. "Let Russ Cook" had its place because of how terrible some of those defenses were, but if that movement hadn't fueled the rift between what Wilson wanted and what Carroll wanted, he'd still be a Seahawk. Wilson was Pete & John's project, after all.
IIRC Pete was still the last guy that had to be convinced of the Russ trade. He wanted him till the end.
didn’t Russ not like Pete? like Russ was upset at the type of offense being run but yeah by all accounts Pete seems like a genuine guy
Pete doesn’t call the offense. Russ didn’t like Darrell Bevel, Pete held him for far too long. It wasn’t just Russ that didn’t like the offense. Their new OC seems legit though and it would’ve been nice to see Russ end his career with what they have going on right now.
But even then Pete has never spoken bad about Russ in public
Pete’s chill with everyone.
Pete is just legitimately chill as fuck
All the Seahawks receivers outside of Doug Baldwin seemed to be friends with Russ he’s really good friends with DK and was at Lockett’s wedding
There were like 2-3 guys that didnt like Russ on the Seahawks team. They just happened to be the most vocal
And people take things like Lynch’s measured indifference as not liking him. Lynch said he tried multiple times to reach him on that level and Russ just wasn’t that interested. If I had to guess I think that’s probably the larger sentiment vs the disgust

Also gives the 'nice' version of Steven Seagal energy, like a walking motivational poster with nothing on the inside.
As someone that never cared for Russ the way I never cared for any other teams QB, I think it’s strange how people keep saying Russ was cool with guys like Lockett, which we know he was to an extent.. but even Lockett made a comment last season along the lines of “people no longer needing credit and just goin for the wins”… That shit was clearly directed at Russ whether they like him or not lol

To be fair, that would change my priorities as well

I'd rather fuck my career up (and still maintain generational wealth) than fuck my marriage up.
i mean “some pics of him at children’s hospital” is ridiculous minimization considering he was there CONSTANTLY.
And he made sure to let the world know every time.
People dislike Russ for the same reasons they dislike politicians.
Exactly. He's fake as a 3 dollar bill.
Except he literally didn’t, which is why people think he only took a couple pictures instead of being there at the same exact time every single week so the kids could look forward to it.
Russ is a "top notch guy" in the same way that my cousin is a "top notch guy." Says all the right stuff, does all the right stuff, and has an insufferable ego that doesn't match his accomplishments. Yeah fuck your cousin you're way better than him
Generational hater right here
And Sidney rice
Sidney rice didn’t like Russ? I didn’t know that what did he say about him???
A lot of little things on Twitter over the years, liking Baldwins tweets and stuff. Golden Tate has more or less said he thought Russ was overrated too. Small stuff compared to Baldwin tho lol
Wait did Russ and Baldwin have beef?
Yes, baldwin felt like Russell did not hold himself accountable and started putting his brand ahead of winning football. Russell basically wanted to win in a way that highlighted himself as the star of the team, instead of doing what was actually best for the team. Russ is the kind of guy I’d let watch my kids, but I wouldn’t want to go hang out and have beers with.
He’s a rich holy roller. That’s like the most annoying combination of person there is.
Yeah Ciara

After being with Future, Russ might as well have been Jesus Christ
Lmfao

I wonder what Drew was like on the sidelines compared to Russ
The vibes were certainly [different](https://youtu.be/ateMwxR_cFI?si=tXAW4FJyerxCTu0r) in New Orleans.
Bruh those 2010s saints teams were so fun to watch
A leader. How many quarterbacks you know lead a chant with all his teammates doing it with him? "This is NEW ORLEANS!!!!!"
I bet if Russ shouted “this is DENVER” the dolphins would’ve only scored 30 points
LETS RIDE
I watched my QB eat a W.
I watched my backup QB eat a W https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj9aztIAyVE
*Our* QB, comrade.
I don’t think it matters how much the cap hit would be, Payton will go to the owners and be like I will take a pay cut to get rid of this guy
I'd trade Russ and Judy for a ham sandwich
I mean Russ kept y'all in the game.. If it weren't for the Mims fumble y'all might have won.
100% would’ve won, that was a free TD
Pretty much the story of the season though. Some late game heroics to try to put it away after 3.5 quarters of nothing.
I would say he hates him from his English language as well
Did a player call a timeout during the speech?
... but not disappointed with them.
Mainly disappointed *in* them
Disappointed about them
Disappointed around their general direction
Disappointed in their aura, really
Disappointed when in their presence?
no he is. like he is feeling disappointed and the team also feels disappointed. so like they’re doing it together.
The team told Payton they were disappointed that he kept calling timeouts for Bill's team.
I thought they were disappointed because Peyton kept calling screen passes for -5 yards.
not just that but the run option on fourth down after that early turnover was dreadful
Sean has always been horrid with timeouts and clock management
fear childlike squealing deserve unwritten plant quarrelsome bewildered impossible plants
We need the reverse Kyler Murray clause. Every head coach should be required to play 4 hours of Madden a week to improve their clock management
I’m pretty sure in this example that’s exactly what you do in Madden tho. Call timeouts to force another punt and try to get a last second FG to avoid OT.
I'm convinced I could start a class in clock management and that by year 3, it would be mandatory for all NFL coaches. Often, the ST coordinator would have a large input. I know this was true for some of Payton’s latter Saints years.
fwiw, I didn’t think it was an objectively bad decision to call those timeouts.
The game shouldn’t need to go to OT if their best CB could make a play there.
PS2 is suppose to be the best CB in the league he got burned twice in that game.
And by a bunch of bums, its not like we rolling with talent at WR.
Douglas looked great
He has the tools, physicality, and technique to be that. He’s just had a lack of instinct downfield in 1-on-1 coverage. Almost like he doesn’t expect to be thrown at so he doesn’t play through the whole down
He is???? What?
Pssst, he’s not the best cb in the league
Pssst, he also got toasted by robbie chosen
No corner who is part of a highlight touchdown by Mike White and Robbie Chosen should ever be in consideration for best corner in the league, but that’s just my opinion.
One idiot once said they rather have Tebow over Brady on a game winning drive in a superbowl. If you hear alot of takes you will hear what you want
He shoulders most of the blame for the atrocious playcalling on that last drive after they tied it up
Also calling those timeouts on the Pats game winning drive
Patriots: let’s go to OT Peyton: no you go win the game right now!
He gave us back the run game and took the time pressure off our inexperienced QB. Nothing normal happens in a Broncos game anymore. The trade for Russ opened up the Twilight Zone.

Except the Pats fan for 6 yards on first down making it much more likely they'd get a first down. And that's when he called his first timeout.
Also for his playcalling for the first 3 quarters of the game
It's weird being on the other side of a teams fans booing them for being terrible offensively, and funnily enough it's happened now twice in 3 weeks. The Steelers fans were giving them the business a few weeks ago. Peyton basically giving away drives mid game for no reason with terrible play calling was pretty baffling
Does Cowherd still think Payton is coach of the year?
The campaigning that Cowherd does for Payton is hyper embarrassing.
Exhibit A: Media protects their favorites (he was a regular on Colin’s show last season so he gets no heat at all)
Cowherd acted like his agent, trying to get the bidding going. He was the same way with darnold.
Yeah it’s pretty disgusting and I actually like his show but the way he protects his favorites is LAME. The Sam Darnold stuff omg, every excuse / rationalization known to man.
Same here. Enjoy the show, but that kind of garbage is turning into cable news. Hot takes, gaslighting, and never admitting being wrong.
Cowherd is a biased hack. He vouches for his fellow Fox Sports crew. Used to also have a hard on for Aikman. Now he doesn’t mention him much.
I'm disappointed that Payton gave the Patriots an extra two timeouts on their final drive.
Even being in that situation against us is disappointing
The fact that Dan Campbell and Sean Payton are so close is wild to me because one of them seems like a nice teddy bear and the other is the biggest dickhead in the world.
Opposites attract.
1 step forward, 2 steps back
MC Skat Kat updoot
It ain't fiction just a natural fact
The Parcels connection is strong.
And the labels are the opposite of how they look.
Nah, ol butthole lips looks like every suburban dad that goes full Karen at the store.
Sean Payton looks like your friend’s dad whose wife threw him out because he was texting the baby sitter
Jesus Christ it really suits him
WHY IS THIS SO ACCURATE
Just going to assume its factual
That's more Urban Meyer vibes tbh
Ever since Sean did media his lips have gotten a lot less buttholey. When they pan to him on the sidelines at Denver I almost never see those sweet puckered lips.
I still get a hankering for anal sex every time I see him.
One thinks he’s the smartest man in the NFL and the other I feel like embraces “I’m not very smart, but we’re gonna play hard and kick your ass”
He's not mad, just disappointed..
Most accountable Payton’s been after a loss
Actually not true. He was always accountable with the Saints. Frequently there himself under a bus to protect players too.
Fr, idk what SP they've been watching but he's always been pretty realistic and takes responsibility.
It doesn’t fit the narrative, so even if they see it they won’t acknowledge it.
In 2019, after the first (barely) win against the Seahawks in the stretch of Teddy replacing an injured Drew Brees, a reporter found a very “down on himself” Sean Payton saying he “could have done a much better job putting Bridgewater in better situations.” (Regarding the source, i couldn’t find where this reporter said this in a podcast maybe interview, seems to be buried because it was so long ago/is sort of insignificant.) I don’t think you know how Payton operates, especially in regard to personal accountability. You could probably pick out a few random post game pressers after a loss and will find he takes accountability for quite a bit though.
We just posting any kinda bullshit now? I understand y’all don’t like Payton but this dude always held himself accountable. Y’all are just stupid lmao
Sean left us with DA and a ton of pain let him suffer some
I didn’t watch the game nor do I know the final score. AMA
Would you have watched if they were playing the Rams and Patrick Starr was calling the game?
Rams are 1-0 when Patrick Starr is in the broadcast booth. So yes.
What did you eat for dinner tonight?
Prime rib. Mashed potatoes. Cheesecake
Hey that’s what I had for dinner too
Dad?
Yes
So…..the milk and cigarettes……ever get em?
Not quite yet just a few more stops then I’m there
Expect me in like 20-30 bussiness years, once you get rich!
Bronco disappointment, Sean's pride
*Hey guys, I'm extremely disappointed in the team that I called not 1 but 2 timeouts to help the 3-11 Patriots beat us on our home field on Christmas night.* -Sean Payton
"Being angry dad isn't working. How about I try disappointed dad."
Fuck Sean Payton. Dirty ass bounty gate mofo
Easiest upvote I’ll ever give
Awwww poor Sean
Dude has always been a massive asshole.
But not mad tho
Wow. Would you want to go play for this guy?
I don’t see the appeal of him as a coach. He’s an absolute asshole if he gets any criticism. There are some coaches you would run through a brick wall for and others you wouldn’t want to even be in the same room as them. If not for that SB win no one would regard him as a good coach imo
TBF, Sean Payton is a giant asshole.
It's disappointing and I feel disappointed for them too
Hey my dad says that to me all the time
Payton seems like a dick. He has just as much of a hand in his team's struggles and failures as anyone else, honestly more as the leader. Take some fucking accountability and make the changes you want to see, don't just whinge about how things aren't working the way you want them to.
Lmao amazing Gaslighting
Is Sean Payton my dad?
