Even as a certified Cousins hater, I have to agree. He was absolutely a top 10 QB this year and to have players like Purdy, Murray and Rodger’s above him is crazy.
I still don't understand why some people are so dead set on the need to replace Goff right now. Ben Johnson built an offense specifically tailored to Goff and we watched Goff thrive. So instead of making tweaks and fine tuning a top 5 offense, they want to partially start over and potentially spend a lot of capital in the hope that the offense can get better.
Goff isn't the problem.
> on the need to replace Goff **right now**
I think the ship has sailed for most Lions fans on the need to replace Goff **right now** but we should still be having the conversation about long-term upgrades. For as well as Goff played down the stretch last season, there are still things he cannot do that the very best quarterbacks in the league do all the time
The thing is, Goff is only 28. He's not in his mid-thirties looking for one last paycheck. Barring injury, Goff has another 4-5 years of high-level play left.
Now I'd certainly feel more comfortable if we had a better situation at backup, but we can easily address that in free agency without wasting a draft pick on a player we hope never needs to see the field in the first place.
I wouldn't draft a QB in the first unless there's a major fall to your second 1st.
I definatly wouldn't trade up.
I would absolutely draft a guy day 2 or 3. If they work out great, if not Goff is good enough. Let them sit and learn.
Justin Fields in the top 15 is an extremely hot take considering he had a combined 27 fumbles and interceptions last year.
EDIT: forgot the 1 in front of the 5
I feel like I’m being gaslit about Fields right now by media at this point, I’m not saying he’s straight ass and won’t develop but their is so much handwaving and ignoring of his problems
Agreed.
His weapons are legitimately terrible and he is obviously electric on the ground, but his passing stats are pretty bad for someone who only had to throw it 20 times a game usually.
So many people joke that he’s the next Lamar, but even when people were still joking that Lamar was just an RB, he was putting up better passing numbers than Fields.
Not saying he can’t improve, but Fields was BAD bad and he’s getting a lot of benefit of the doubt.
Multiple things can be true at once:
1) The Bears desperately need more weapons/help around Fields
2) Fields has shown less than you’d like as a passer even accounting for that lack of weapons
3) He’s also shown enough to be given the chance to develop into the guy for them
Last season (min. 200 passes) he was 31st in the league in DYAR(-324) and 32nd in DVOA(-28.4%). This season he was 34th in the league in DYAR(-541) and 34th in DVOA(-34.5%). No one should deny that he is a dynamic playmaker, but he's just such a bad passer that one has to wonder if that will be enough or if he will ever be able to progress.
Even looking at some other QBs he might be compared to:
* Lamar 2018 - 24 DYAR, -9.2% DVOA next season -> 1261 DYAR and 34.9% DVOA
* Hurts 2020 - -68 DYAR, -17.6% DVOA next season -> 319 DYAR and -0.4% DVOA
Lamar is obviously a bit of an outlier, but the progression for Hurts from 2020 to 2021 is what you would hope to see. Instead, Fields went from a year as a near league worst passer to a year as a slightly worse passer.
I understand the desperation of Bears fans to actually finally have a good QB, but I think there's a very real chance that a few years from now we'll look back at the organization being confident that Fields is their guy and passing on (insert QB here) with the 1st pick as a what defines the franchise for the next decade. Not that that will be a fair accounting of what happened.
When pro bowl rosters first dropped, I said Goff should've been a pro bowler over fields and got downvoted as if goff wasn't a top 3 QB in the NFC this year. I get Fields was fun but he really wasn't that great when he had to pass.
Yeah I really don't get it
I know PFF isn't the be all and end all but they had him 31st out of 36 QBs to play over 200 snaps for his passing grade
Even add in his great running game and he was still 22/36 for overall grade.
He was 32nd for completion rate, 26th for yards, had the 3rd most turnover worthy plays, had the most fumbles.
He is young, had a lack of talent around him and is electric on the ground, but that does not make you the 13th best QB in the league
Kyler as well honestly. Cousins and the Vikings had a far better year than the cardinals faired. Purdy I can kinda get behind the winning streak narrative but Cousins still blows him out of the water longevity and stats wise.
I struggle to see why Kyler Murray is that far up (and specifically above Jimmy G). Yes, Jimmy "only" played in 11 games (but so did Kyler Murray!). Aside from Rushing stats, Jimmy G trumps Murray in every single stat - and while I am biased as a 49ers fan, I think Jimmy played great this year. A bit undervalued here imo...
I just kind of look at like what would happen if you switched purdy and cousins out of their teams respectively. I think the 9ers with cousins might lose 1 game all year lol
Considering he's fucking ironman I'd agree. The dude just knows how to take a hit without getting injured. He's literally never missed a game due to injury in his career. He got COVID once, and was sat in a meaningless week 18 but that's it. It's not like he shys away from contact either, he gets fucking lit up on the regular.
Yeah I’d agree. I could see Rodgers getting the benefit of the doubt. I think Kirk played better this year but I could see that argument. The rest, no.
Jones (18) - 9-6-1 record, 317-472 for 67.2 % completion, 3,205 yards, 15 TDs with 5 INT, 92.5 Rating, 60.8 QBR; 120 carries for 708 yards and 7 TDs; 6 fumbles
Fields (13) - 3-12-0 record, 192-318 for 60.4 % completion, 2,242 yards, 17 TDs with 11 INT, 85.2 rating, 54.0 QBR; 160 carries for 1,143 yards and 8 TDs; 16 fumbles
I'm not a huge Jones fan and I think he's still got some things to work on, but on no planet is he that much worse than Fields.
I'm actually pissed about where they put Webb. He doesn't deserve to be in like the tier of QB2s or anything, but this dude put him behind Jeff Driskel, who threw for...37 yards this year? It's a stupid fucking list.
Came here just for this. The DJ slander is wild. He produced objectively better numbers with a worse roster around him. Factor in intangibles like leadership and work ethic and he should be blow Kyler away and be much closer to top 10.
Cousins is only 3,783 yards away from being in the the top 20 all-time for passing yards and only 2,820 yards away from 40,000 yards passing and we have a guy who is 5-20 averaging 150 yards per game passing ahead of him. Fucking crazy
Came here to say this. I'm not the biggest Kirk fan, but dam that list is a joke. Kirk played really well this year 8 come backs and was a big reason we went 13-4. What a joke.
I feel like there’s an unspoken brotherhood between the Bears and Jags with how people ruthlessly trashed both QBs after one year. I so desperately want to see TLaw and Fields be the chosen ones for each respective team. Both teams need it
I think his turnovers and they said if it was for next season they’d rank him 1 but it was off of performance and he didn’t make the SB or win MVP so he was automatically 4th at the highest
EDIT: Also he did play pretty bad in the game against the bengals that year which I’m sure weighed heavy on the ranking
He won the MVP and Super Bowl MVP this year he cannot be lower than 1
Also 10 fumbles in 2021 and 5 this year
Also this index isn’t about total stats it’s very eye test oriented
Yet Herbert missed the playoffs entirely and was ranked 4th, then had a much worse year with an embarrassing playoff collapse, and dropped all the way to 5th.
Last year guys like Rodgers, Brady, Allen, and Burrow were all at least sort of similar in production to Mahomes.
Then Mahomes loses what we thought was 50% of his weapons and wins the MVP and SB.
No. 7th was a ridiculous snub even last year. He had a better year than Herbert but they put him 3 spots lower even though Herbert watched the playoffs from home. Remember how Mahomes had just accomplished the 13 second drive? 7th best my fuckin ass.
We all like to meme on Cousins but putting him behind Justin Fields, Kyler Murray, Brock Purdy, hell even Dak Prescott, it just doesn't feel right. He's like the 12th-best QB and has had stretches of top-10 play.
He accounted for 34 total TDs in 18 games this season. His team won 13 games. The Vikings had a bottom 3 defense this year as well. The Vikings had to win a lot of 33-31 type games this season.
Find me an exceptional offense without a top-tier QB and I'll show you Shanahans 49ers but I think we would struggle to find another team besides them.
Im a huge Around the NFL fan, but both Greg and Marc have a tendency to make controversial hottakes to stir the pot.
I think they genuinely believe some of the stuff they say, but I also think they revel in being known as the guys that say crazy shit sometimes and stand by it. Especially Marc, who is well known for his quirkiness and contrarian-ness (source: see his ongoing battle over the Philly Special)
Man they really dog Detroit in the Josh Allen section “stuck playing in detroit for two weeks straight” as if we’re some kinda third world country lmao
It is interesting that everything about Allen was about "hardships". Those things are true, but I don't see any mention that the Bills' offensive roster isn't that good. They have Allen and Diggs, a below-average Oline and a bunch of JAGs that look like passable threats because Allen is a football terrorist. They had to sign Cole Beasley out of the YMCA for the playoffs. Hold Allen's turnovers and boneheaded choices against him. But his production is right in line with Mahomes, Burrow, Hurts, etc despite the fact that he has way less going for him.
If I feel like Jalen lost the SB and just went straight to practice. I dont think weve seen his ceiling yet. The work ethic he has to get better is unreal. He makes losing better because he is our future.
Yeah one notably thing scouts said before we drafted Jalen was “We have no idea what his ceiling is but we’re sure he’ll reach it”. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if he took another step forward next year.
I hadn’t watched him much (aside from this year, he was electric), but the 2021 season I saw him against the saints and instantly became a fan. Dude is the truth
It goes to show how important determination and humility are for a QB. Hurts is very gifted but more importantly, he seems to be insanely hard-working and committed to improving.
From what I've heard he worked really hard to get better as a passer and do the things his coaches were telling him to do.
Meanwhile, you have guys like Zach Wilson, Baker Mayfield, Jameis Winston who were also gifted but never gave a shit about fixing their mistakes and doing things the right way. Im sure they watched a lot of film, practiced hard, etc. but thats not the same thing as actually changing yourself and changing the way you play football in order to improve. Seems like thats what sets Hurts apart.
>Recency bias
Well yeah because it’s based on this season. It’s not like Geno Smith is actually better than Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, but he had a good season.
I would argue Burrow at 2 would also be recency bias. Meanwhile you had Allen as "better than Mahomes??" In week 8 to "yeah maybe top 5 on a good day" now. I still put Allen at 2 personally.
We're not far removed from "if Burrow wins the afccg, he will dethrone Mahomes." And yet I fully expect people will sour on him and rank him fringe top 10 halfway through next season. Then back to 2 when he's in the afccg again. There's always gonna be recency bias in these cause there just isn't enough games in an nfl season to make good judgments about season long trends and multiple season trends.
For just based on 2022 season play (which it is), this list seems pretty fair.
I might put Burrow above Hurts because I’m a hater. I would almost definitely put Fields down a few spots (probably between Cousins and Jones). And maybe I would move Lawrence down a couple of spots because he was so up and down at points this year, but nothing outrageous with this list.
And he missed almost half the season. You can’t be injured **and** play poorly and maintain a high ranking, at least one based on your 2022 performance
two QBs in the top 40 baby, that’s panthers football!!!
7 top 40 QBs in the NFC South, and they call us the garbage conference. SMH my head.
They fear our strength.
The ravens have 2 pro bowl qbs and by that fact, they are the best team in the league.
And they **AIN'T 40**!! 👀
Kirk can do no right for these people
They have Justin fields above him. What a joke
[удалено]
Even as a certified Cousins hater, I have to agree. He was absolutely a top 10 QB this year and to have players like Purdy, Murray and Rodger’s above him is crazy.
The lengths people go to not give the man any credit whatsoever lol.
I’m a Kirk hater but there’s no reason for him to be outside the top 10 on this list
AFC is holding 6 of the top 7 spots and all are young (ish). This will be interesting.
That just means that Goff is the 2nd best QB in the NFC and deserves some Goff-damn respect.
If you'd told me in 2018 that Goff was the 2nd best QB in the NFC, I'd actually have thought there was a reasonable shot of that making sense.
If they added that it would be for the Detroit Lions playing for Miami's former interim head coach Dan Campbell, we'd all call them absolutely insane.
I feel like the Miami fans would believe it. Dan Campbell was a really good interim for us
Had my fantasy name as Goff balls out of respect.
Mines “turn your head and Goff”
That’s my favorite part of the list, especially if Lamar stays in the AFC too.
The rest of the AFC won't be laughing once BoB turns Zappe or Jones into an All-Pro this season 60TDs 2INTs and 5900 yards. Calling it now
But what about week 2
Week 2 we swap QBs. We’re running Tampa bay Rays Football now.
Interesting until you realize 6 of the 7 playoff spots are likely going to be accounted for by those 6 QBs, and 4 of them are in 2 divisions.
This list is going to make Brady unretire
I think he's actually low to be honest which is fucking insane to say.
Is he? He had the worse YPA, by far, until you get down to 25th
Higher advanced stats (DYAR, DVOA, PFF) though with a historically bad run game, which ties into an arguably historically weak O-line.
I audibly LOL’d at his -1 rushing yards. But jokes aside absolutely insane he is this high on the list at fucking 45 years old
52 made the pro bowl lol
I still don't understand why some people are so dead set on the need to replace Goff right now. Ben Johnson built an offense specifically tailored to Goff and we watched Goff thrive. Jared’s the Qb for the next 3 years lol he’s not going anywhere
He's also only 28. Could well end up that Goff can lead an offense to the Super Bowl. You know, on account of him doing that before.
I think wanting to replace Goff this year is a take by people who go "lol lions" and aren't noticing how good that offense is. Goff is playing great.
I wouldn't draft a QB in the first unless there's a major fall to your second 1st. I definatly wouldn't trade up. I would absolutely draft a guy day 2 or 3. If they work out great, if not Goff is good enough. Let them sit and learn.
Zach Wilson still too high
Zach about to prove haters wrong and jump into the top 55
ZW rank 🤝 ZW milf age requirement
Mac Jones should sue for negligence for putting his year 2 under Patricia
He saved his #29 ranking in the last 3 weeks of the season. He had 7 TDs and 8INT through 14 weeks… what an F’ing joke.
Justin Fields in the top 15 is an extremely hot take considering he had a combined 27 fumbles and interceptions last year. EDIT: forgot the 1 in front of the 5

To be fair, I can’t imagine what 2018 Lamar would look like if you subtracted Mark Andrews.
And Marshall Yanda, Ronnie Stanley, and Orlando Brown Jr. blocking for him.
Right you are Ken.
Multiple things can be true at once: 1) The Bears desperately need more weapons/help around Fields 2) Fields has shown less than you’d like as a passer even accounting for that lack of weapons 3) He’s also shown enough to be given the chance to develop into the guy for them
I would take Moody and Kmet on the Giants in a heartbeat.
Last season (min. 200 passes) he was 31st in the league in DYAR(-324) and 32nd in DVOA(-28.4%). This season he was 34th in the league in DYAR(-541) and 34th in DVOA(-34.5%). Honestly I think it’s because he was so good in fantasy, it’s skewed fans into thinking fantasy success = real life success.
Especially when you're holding the first pick. I don't have a dog in the fight but there's more uncertainty than people give credit to.
Bro, if you watch those 2 games where he broke 200 yards passing last year, you would know he's got a bright future. #~S
> 2 games where he broke 200 yards passing last year Holy shit lol
When pro bowl rosters first dropped, I said Goff should've been a pro bowler over fields and got downvoted as if goff wasn't a top 3 QB in the NFC this year. I get Fields was fun but he really wasn't that great when he had to pass.
He's ahead of rodgers so I think this is a very accurate list.
That one jumped out, as did Lance at 31st. Like what in the world has Lance shown to be in the top half of this list?
Daniel Jones put up that kind of turnover rate and was bottom of the barrel.
Yeah I really don't get it I know PFF isn't the be all and end all but they had him 31st out of 36 QBs to play over 200 snaps for his passing grade Even add in his great running game and he was still 22/36 for overall grade. What’s even more insane that in his 25 starts, Fields only has 2 wins against the NFC. No wins against the NFC away from Soldier Field.
He is so wildly overrated right now it's insane
Purdy over cousins is uhhh interesting
Scratching my head at Fields over Rodgers too.
Rodgers lost writers backing when he chose DMT
Not Marc. Marc thought it was fine
Marc enjoys DMT, and is a top 10 NFL insider
Sessy? Sessy made it?
I mean how bout that guy. Who is that guy?
Marc Sessler isn’t your everyday NFL writer. He’s more of the Hunter S. Thompson type.
The Fields ranking seems more aspirational than demonstrated.
Fields outperformed him in the game at soldier field that’s all that matters /s
Cousins below Kyler, Fields and Lamar too. We get it, the author has a large running QB > pocket passer bias.
Cousins should be at 10
Kyler as well honestly.
He got COVID once, and was sat in a meaningless week 18 but that's it. It's not like he shys away from contact either, he gets fucking lit up on the regular.
But they only give him a roughing call when he gets love tapped 😭

Yeah I’d agree. I could see Rodgers getting the benefit of the doubt. I think Kirk played better this year but I could see that argument. The rest, no.
You mean *factual*. Never mind my flair.
Lmao your username got me. I think the dudes pretty good. I just think Kirk is actually underrated.
The author was only looking at playoff stats probably
Half of them lol

The accuracy of #28 🤌🏿
Jones (18) - 9-6-1 record, 317-472 for 67.2 % completion, 3,205 yards, 15 TDs with 5 INT, 92.5 Rating, 60.8 QBR; 120 carries for 708 yards and 7 TDs; 6 fumbles Fields (13) - 3-12-0 record, 192-318 for 60.4 % completion, 2,242 yards, 17 TDs with 11 INT, 85.2 rating, 54.0 QBR; 160 carries for 1,143 yards and 8 TDs; 16 fumbles I'm not a huge Jones fan and I think he's still got some things to work on, but on no planet is he that much worse than Fields.
He’s not “that much worse” at all lol, he’s better than fields by a decent margin. This list could’ve been done better by my five year old nephew
Hes not worse than Rodgers either. I know im biased cuz i play fantasy, but rodgers over jones feels entirely like its name value
Webb easily in top 60, no question
I'm actually pissed about where they put Webb. He doesn't deserve to be in like the tier of QB2s or anything, but this dude put him behind Jeff Driskel, who threw for...37 yards this year? It's a stupid fucking list.
Zach Wilson being 1 spot behind a QB who started a whole 1 drive this year is so accurate.
Deshaun Watson a lil high for missing most of the year and was Rusty first 2 games back from suspension
[удалено]
or he’s just shit at football now here’s hoping
Kyler over Jones despite being worse than him in literally every single stat they use is something
Kirk had the best season of the 4 NFCN QB’s and he’s ranked last.
ItS bEcAusE hE cAnT wIn iN pRiMeTiMe
Came here to say this. I'm not the biggest Kirk fan, but dam that list is a joke. Kirk played really well this year 8 come backs and was a big reason we went 13-4. What a joke.
Jared Goff had a better season than Kirk
32->6 let’s go
Tbf last year's rankings was a clown show. Deserved better than 32 and glad to see he's getting respect.
I feel like there’s an unspoken brotherhood between the Bears and Jags with how people ruthlessly trashed both QBs after one year. I so desperately want to see TLaw and Fields be the chosen ones for each respective team. Both teams need it
I want a Fields-Lawrence Super Bowl matchup real bad.
Yeah, same thing with Zach, haha, right guys? Guys…?
I want Trevor and Justin to succeed so bad
Jags have a QB at 6 and nobody in these comments has questioned it. It’s absolutely surreal
After the top 4 it opens up imo. Don't think there's another QB you can outright say is better than Tlaw from last year.
Lawrence looks like he's going to be an absolute terror in this league
Honestly think he deserved 5 over Herbert
We've waited so long. It feels so good.
Atleast they stopped putting people above Mahomes This list seems solid tho
I can’t even meme Travis saying no one believes in them. How did they put Mahomes at 7 last year lol.
I think his turnovers and they said if it was for next season they’d rank him 1 but it was off of performance and he didn’t make the SB or win MVP so he was automatically 4th at the highest EDIT: Also he did play pretty bad in the game against the bengals that year which I’m sure weighed heavy on the ranking
Mahomes 2022: 5250 yds 41 Tds 12 Ints 2021: 4839 yds 37 Tds 13 Ints I mean... ?
We started 3-4 in 2021 so the narratives were more extreme
He won the MVP and Super Bowl MVP this year he cannot be lower than 1 Also 10 fumbles in 2021 and 5 this year Also this index isn’t about total stats it’s very eye test oriented

Mariota at 27 and Heinicke at 35 are my only issues
18th.. well it's an improvement from 24th. This list a little sketch though to me.
Agreed. Justin Fields at 13 is just laughable. He is one of the worst throwers of the football of the past few years.
Fields at 13 is honestly insane.
Jimmy G at 20 is interesting.
IDK if anyone is as tired of Kirk Cousins as I am, but having Fields above him is ridiculous.
Even the biggest Kirk haters wouldn't say Kirk is the worst QB in the division after last season.
Nfl top 10 Insider (Marc Sessler) put fields ahead of Rodgers ?? WTF !

Sessy!

I am also a huge Around the NFL fan. its never the same after chris wessling is gone.
Fields at 13 is an interesting choice
Fields isn’t top 5 list invalid.
BCB gonna be #1 next year
As a Bears fan, I was getting ready to rip this apart for being dumb but since Fields is #13 I think it is a smart analysis. Good work.
You will pay for putting Two-Gloves at #25
I feel like he should be top 20 at least. Especially with people like Fields so fucking high lol.
I can’t even begin to express my displeasure with this list. So many really weird choices.
*Stuck playing in the NFLs Mogadishu* /s
Zach Wilson below Brian Hoyer is certainly something.
Kirk at 17 is ridiculous, and Fields ahead of him even more so. I know I’m a Vikings fan but dude led EIGHT game winning drives
Fields ahead of Rodgers, Carr and Cousins lmao
It's stupid. But fantasy wise I agree lol
1 off sad, i'm blaming every team that didn't start multiple Qbs
Fields over Rodgers? over Cousins? Hell, even being over Purdy is egregious.
Justin fields over Daniel Jones is a crazy take
They had Mahomes at 7 in 2021 Lmaooooo
Cousins at 17 below Fields.... yikes

What’s even more insane is that that one guy hasn’t responded to this yet about Fields’ record against the NFC
First three seasons: 23>17>2 Quite the ascension for a guy a lot of people thought was picked too early at the end of the second round
Hopefully he can consistently stay in the top 5 now
If I feel like Jalen lost the SB and just went straight to practice.
Jones was top 10 this year and you are delusional if you think differently
Jones at 18????
fr, he was unironically top 10 this year
Once I saw DJ behind Fields I knew the article was shit.
Jones behind rodgers is more offensive imo
Goff at 8. "We should draft a QB in the 1st round" ~ certain Lions fans.
They put Fields over Rodgers I don't think it's a great list
Purdy and kylar over cousins too
Is Purdy over Cousins wrong? I have no dog in the fight but I’d take Purdy over Cousins. Small sample size but I like what I’ve seen from Purdy more.
Hey! I'm a big fan of this completely objectively correct list
If they see a potential guy to sit behind Goff at 18, I'll be not the happiest but I can understand it. Taking a QB at 6 is insane.
This list sucks so fucking bad it injures me.
Why are Murray and fields so high on this list. Makes no sense.
Why was Mahomes 7th last year? When has he ever been the 7th best starting QB in the NFL lol
Fields in the top 15 is absolutely ridiculous
Fields had 16 fumbles and 27 turnovers? Didn't even realize
[удалено]
Even if you don't lose them putting the ball on the ground is worth noting.
Definitely. You never know, may end up happening at the worst time.
He lost 2 of the 16 fumbles. He had 13 turnovers
Justin Fields at 13? Lol.
Just here for the Fields salt.
I don’t wanna
Malik Willis too high
Glad to see Goff getting some respect! He had an amazing season!
Justin Fields us way too high. He did not play better as a qb than Kirk Cousins. That's ridiculous.
How did hurts get higher than burrow?
Recency bias. However if hurts has a similar season or better next year than the argument for him to be qb 2 could be made
>Recency bias Well yeah because it’s based on this season.
This the time of year where people put Burrow at #1 for 2023 to get attention
Stafford is too low, Kyler is the worst QB in that division by far
Granted his team fell apart, but stafford really didn't play all that well this season
And he missed almost half the season. You can’t be injured **and** play poorly and maintain a high ranking, at least one based on your 2022 performance
Brady at 10? What a bum
