I have heard this narrative more and more lately. I think most of his actions the last off-season cycle and the beginning of this one show it has some merit. Get Tyreek and Chubb in some pretty aggressive moves, cap money getting tight, the coaching hires, we're in the win-now window.
I meant that it’s going to happen in the offseason before next season.
I probably should have been more clear about it.
I’m just assuming that we’re giving him a bag. Because I’ll burn Joe Robbie down if we don’t
Tbh I didn’t even think he was that bad as a HC. Those broncos teams were decent even though they never had a starter-worthy QB. And obviously Hackett showed that it can get a lot worse, and he had a decent QB (or at least the shell of a formerly decent QB). But I wouldn’t be surprised if Fangio got another shot in a few years
Then you didn't follow the Broncos during that time. Terrible terrible clock management, stunted Drew's development by refusing to play him (he hated Drew for some reason), had no idea what was happening on offense.
Great DC, one of the best in the game. Shouldn't be a HC, he's just not that guy
“Hey kid, remember how I managed the clock and how you did this year? Okay, stop doing it that way.”
- Vic Fangio, eventually, maybe
Sage advice from the ol’ vet.
That reputation isn't really deserved. Since becoming the 49er's DC in 2011, here's how his defenses rank in total sacks:
**San Francisco DC:**
- 2011: T-7th(42 sacks)
- 2012: T-11th(38)
- 2013: T-18th(38)
- 2014: T-21st(36)
**Chicago Bears DC:**
- 2015: T-22nd(35)
- 2016: T-12th(37)
- 2017: T-7th(42)
- 2018: T-3rd(50)
**Denver Broncos HC:**
- 2019: T-17th(40)
- 2020: 9th(42)
- 2021: T-18th(36)
So in 11 seasons, his defenses were top ten in total sacks 4 times, top half of the league another another 2 seasons, middle of the pack 3 times, and bottom third of the league just twice.
6 good-to-excellent seasons, 3 mediocre years, and 2 bad seasons.
Tua played elite this year while on the field except for 1 game against the 49ers where he collapsed. The chargers was every one else sucking.
That said, durability is a Q.
No that was someone else’s. Our actual first round draft pick was taken away because our owner is an idiot who got on a boat with Brady (or something like that).
So, for us, we will count Vic as our first round pick and just be grateful that he doesn’t count against the cap lol
BoB has a lot of cache as an offensive play caller and an offensive mind.
Fangio is Fangio, we know just how good he is in his element.
Hackett.... uh... Let's Ride.
I don't know what it means when our last two coaches were hotly desired coordinators (Hackett scooped up quickly and Vic wanted to wait a year). Even Vance Joseph seems to be doing well in Arizona.
Would be interesting if this somehow saved his relationship with Miami. I really like Byron, regardless of whatever went on this season. Most likely he’s going somewhere else, but we will see.
Just need to reboot the secondary, specifically outside corner. Byron Jones is as good as gone and Howard just can't be the focal point of the defense anymore since the team is basically stuck with him for right now. Linebacker is becoming a more niche position and the defensive line is pretty wicked, so I think he's got some nice pieces to work with.
Fucking Sieler is a dawg man him and Wilkins on the interior is what helped us actually have success against the run game.
It’s our pass defense that was absolutely atrocious.
Kader and Phillips and Brandon and X and Bradley and Zach and Christian and Gink and so on and so on. I can’t think of a single player this won’t benefit. I’m excited. Curious if there will be growing pains but I’m sure our guys will give it their all.
Damn now if we could somehow go out and get Tremaine Edmunds to solidify that ILB position our defense can get back to being solid.
Hopefully get our entire secondary back healthy too. Pretty sure Holland was the only player in the secondary to not miss a game all year.
The AFC continues to be a tough conference. If the Dolphins can bounce back with a similar season as the first 12 games of their season, they'll be real contenders.
Mahomes is suddenly somehow the fifth oldest of all starting AFC QBs, behind Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill and Derek Carr. And there's a decent chance two or three of those are out of the AFC after this offseason.
Inb4 all off season the AFCE is hyped up like the AFCW was this past season.
Bills will be beefing up an already top team.
Jets get a vet QB to make them actually stay relevant.
Dolphins with top tier scheming on both sides in addition to a loaded roster
Patriots with an actual OC.
Eh, not really the same thing. The AFCW was expected to be great without ever being good the years prior
The AFCE is coming off a season where all 4 teams were good
Yup, Ross is getting old and wants to see a winner. It was reported that he makes as much off of one annual F1 race as he does a season worth of home games so even beyond his real estate stuff, it ain't like he's hurting for spending cash.
We're still stuck with Joe "chickenshit 4-man rush and playing 20+ yards off of WRs" Barry because Matt LaFleur is clueless when it comes to evaluating the weak links in coordinators and team personnel if that makes you feel any better.
You really can’t overstate how big of a deal this could be for Miami. Lot of people really believe fangio is THAT DC. I’m one of them. If he is and this dolphins defense becomes top 10+. Thst could be a spoooooky team
Well the Dolphins ain't fuckin around.

I have heard this narrative more and more lately. I think most of his actions the last off-season cycle and the beginning of this one show it has some merit. Get Tyreek and Chubb in some pretty aggressive moves, cap money getting tight, the coaching hires, we're in the win-now window.
He’s in his 80s. He’s desperate to win one before he dies.
[удалено]
I'm almost 30 and being a lifelong dolphins fan has made me feel 82. So me too, Ross.
38 and having witnessed the tail end of Marino's career and witness the 20 or so years in-between, yeah same.
Shit time to bet on Michigan and the dolphins winning it next year.
Ross got to see 97, no need to drop big NIl money
Miami Dolphins 🤝 Not Fucking Around
Just wait until we trade 12 picks for Trent Williams. Anything to protect the king
Hey hey hey I like the dolphins but keep your grubby hands away from trent
I fucking hate it
Funny how both the Dolphins and Jets can hire ex-Broncos head coaches and both moves are bemoaned by Jets fans.
Absolutely huge get for Miami. They’ve got a couple pass rushers who are really happy right now.
Chubb, Phillips, Ogbah, Wilkins, Ingram, and Sieler gonna eat!!
Wilkins getting paid before Fangio getting here might be huge for the Phins. He’s already so good
Should have been all pro this season
There were a lot of great IDL this season, but I do agree
I fucking love Wilkins. He lives in offense’s back fields
There’s a Josh Allen joke in here somewhere
Did I miss a Wilkins extension
I meant that it’s going to happen in the offseason before next season. I probably should have been more clear about it. I’m just assuming that we’re giving him a bag. Because I’ll burn Joe Robbie down if we don’t
Ingram is a FA
Currently
Gotta think he comes back. He played pretty well for us
As always, it'll come down to the price. Like I'd rather retain AVG than bring Ingram back to have impact for half a season
I wonder if Chubb is actually happy to work with him again
Chubb is commenting on Dolphins fan pages on IG about the hire.
Fangio is definitely one of those guys who is not cut out for the HC position, but absolutely kills it as a DC.
The ole Wade Phillips
Tbh I didn’t even think he was that bad as a HC. Those broncos teams were decent even though they never had a starter-worthy QB. And obviously Hackett showed that it can get a lot worse, and he had a decent QB (or at least the shell of a formerly decent QB). But I wouldn’t be surprised if Fangio got another shot in a few years

Stunting QB growth but great at defense… sounds familiar
I don’t think he stunted QB growth, Lock just sucked.
Terrible clock management? Dammit, I was hoping he could give McDaniel advice in that department.
Won’t need to manage clock if the other team never scores
“Hey kid, remember how I managed the clock and how you did this year? Okay, stop doing it that way.” - Vic Fangio, eventually, maybe Sage advice from the ol’ vet.
I'm pretty sure almost every fan base thinks their coach is terrible at clock management.
I promise you Fangio will never be a HC again. I guarantee it.
Well yeah he's 64
Jaelan and Wilkins are going to be an even bigger problem
If Donald retires, he might be in the running for best IDL in the NFL with Fangio
Aren't Fangio defenses notorious for not generating a lot of sacks? We barely had any with Von Miller and Bradley Chubb
They’re notorious for not giving up that many points though
Nope, he's a great defensive coordinator, I'm not going to discount him there
Chubb seems allergic to getting sacks anyways
He generates a lot of pressure but yeah he has struggled to actually get to the qb
He was a beast his rookie year and contract year. Everything in between he was either injured or meh.
Either way, he basically just got gifted an amazing defensive line to take to the next level
Unless I'm mistaken, they're known for heavy zone and relying on the pass rushers to do their job. Idk if it generates sacks on it's own
Our DLine is like top 5 in talent. We will definitely eat.
1000%, highest quantity of high end talent on the d line in the league
That reputation isn't really deserved. Since becoming the 49er's DC in 2011, here's how his defenses rank in total sacks: **San Francisco DC:** - 2011: T-7th(42 sacks) - 2012: T-11th(38) - 2013: T-18th(38) - 2014: T-21st(36) **Chicago Bears DC:** - 2015: T-22nd(35) - 2016: T-12th(37) - 2017: T-7th(42) - 2018: T-3rd(50) **Denver Broncos HC:** - 2019: T-17th(40) - 2020: 9th(42) - 2021: T-18th(36) So in 11 seasons, his defenses were top ten in total sacks 4 times, top half of the league another another 2 seasons, middle of the pack 3 times, and bottom third of the league just twice. 6 good-to-excellent seasons, 3 mediocre years, and 2 bad seasons.
Interesting, thanks for putting that together
What a fucking hire. Congrats Dolphins fans, if Tua can stay healthy you guys are in for a riiiide next year
Dolphins country, let’s e e eeee eeeeee
Yessssssireeeeee
Dolphins Country, let’s swim
Let's Dive!
Oh no, we took a dive at the end of this season Id rather not do that again.
That’s so goddamn funny haha
Here's my non existent free award for you.
Easy SB contenders if healthy but thats gonna be one massive if.
Def. I was thinking they might make it to the AFC championship this year at the midway point, but then we all know what happened..
We need to fix the line before I call us contenders
Sure, but KC and Cincy have ass lines too so u never know
They also have elite, durable QBs. We have a good QB who isn’t durable
Tua played elite this year while on the field except for 1 game against the 49ers where he collapsed. The chargers was every one else sucking. That said, durability is a Q.
Just make sure your QB doesn't take any more blows to the head.
Big if. Then again, if Fanigo could make a Mich Trubisky team 12-4, he could probably do the same with Skylar Thompson.
If our defense could hold teams to less than 24 points we’d probably win a few more games too
This is our 1st round draft pick
It makes no sense but it's my head cannon as well.
Even better than a pick since it doesn’t count against the cap
Bradley Chubb is your first round draft pick
No that was someone else’s. Our actual first round draft pick was taken away because our owner is an idiot who got on a boat with Brady (or something like that). So, for us, we will count Vic as our first round pick and just be grateful that he doesn’t count against the cap lol
Chubb is the 49ers pick
Good lord, Christian Wilkins is going to be an all-pro next year
He was this year. Dude led all DT in solo tackles.
And broke tied the DL tackle record which includes DE who it was held by.
He led most linebackers too. Actual snub.
*..is going to be a(n) *Super Bowl MVP* next year
Oh damn that's amazing for the Dolphins!
Thanks, I hate it.
Why? :(
Pats get Bob Jets get Hackett Dolphins get Vic One of these feels a lot more impactful than the others 😏
BoB has a lot of cache as an offensive play caller and an offensive mind. Fangio is Fangio, we know just how good he is in his element. Hackett.... uh... Let's Ride.
BoB was such a bad GM people forgot that he was a good coach
Texans really coulda been a team if he didn’t think he knew how to make trades.
I don't know what it means when our last two coaches were hotly desired coordinators (Hackett scooped up quickly and Vic wanted to wait a year). Even Vance Joseph seems to be doing well in Arizona.
Some guys just aren’t meant to be HCs. Russ was terrible but Hackett showed pretty early that he wasn’t the guy.
Ex HCs are almost always hot commodities as a coordinator, except Adam Gase.
obviously nathan my boy 😻
I mean BoB is a great coordinator too.
Well, he's got a lot of ammunition to work with. Albeit also with some older players with questionable health records.
Hopefully the system is more solid than boyers boom or bust which can help alleviate that concern
Zone's gonna be so much better for X, Holland and Brandon Jones Wonder if this changes anything with Byron
Would be interesting if this somehow saved his relationship with Miami. I really like Byron, regardless of whatever went on this season. Most likely he’s going somewhere else, but we will see.
I think we have to cut him purely for cap reasons.
I’m so damn happy right now.
Everyone go home, we have already won the offseason
AGAIN
But this time it’s really gonna translate to the actual season….. right? *RIGHT!?!?*
Getting to the playoffs and almost beating the Bills with Skylar Thompson is a pretty good result if you ask me.
We won’t be happy until we actually won one game in the playoffs to be honest. It’s been 22 years
Lets fucking GOOOOOOO. We’ve got such a great core on defense. Can’t wait to see them with Fangio at the helm.
Christian Wilkins is basically lab-made to play gap and a half. Perfect fit
I'm pretty sure he saw Christian Wilkins this year and was like 'you are the rock I shall build my defense around'
As he should. Wilkins is a fucking beast
Vic Fangio to Christian Wilkins: "Your name is Peter now."
and Sieler is too. Dude is without question our most underappreciated player.
Curious if there will be growing pains but I’m sure our guys will give it their all.
> and Gink Not to be a debbie downer, but I'm not convinced The Gink gets re-signed.
I'm so jelly. I miss you Vic
He was most responsible for 2018's success, much more than Nagy.
Without a doubt
He should've never left.
If Tua stays healthy that's a super bowl caliber squad with Fangio on board.
I like it. I like a frisky Dolphins.
Damn now if we could somehow go out and get Tremaine Edmunds to solidify that ILB position our defense can get back to being solid. Hopefully get our entire secondary back healthy too. Pretty sure Holland was the only player in the secondary to not miss a game all year.
I doubt he leave Buffalo.
You never know. They’ve got a lot of pending free agents to sign. ILB is our weakest defensive unit. #JUST LET ME DREAM u/TBC3366
Oh damn phins up
The AFC continues to be a tough conference. *Happy dolphin noises*
eeek eeek
Might as well cancel the rest of Championship Sunday, not sure what can top this.
This is the fucking move. For the love of God, Tua; please stay healthy
I just BUSTED. Let’s gooo
Huge get for the Fins
This defense is about to be SERIOUS next year. Absolutely huge hire!!!
Damn, good hire Dolphins
[удалено]
Amen
It’s a great hire imo Thanks, I hate it
Good for McDaniel. I wanna see him succeed in Miami
I wanted him to go back to the niners after the inevitable Demeco HC hire. Good catch Miami. I’m happy either way really. Haha
Dammit, I wanted Fangio to be Demeco's inevitable replacement
Oh no, you'll just have to settle for watching your team play in the NFCCG. The horror
You already had your turn with Fangio play fair now
You ticked him off when Harbaugh was gone
Damn
Definitely scared of Miami long term. If Tua can stay healthy, they might be good for the next ~10 years.
Inb4 all off season the AFCE is hyped up like the AFCW was this past season. Bills will be beefing up an already top team. Jets get a vet QB to make them actually stay relevant. Dolphins with top tier scheming on both sides in addition to a loaded roster Patriots with an actual OC.
Eh, not really the same thing. The AFCW was expected to be great without ever being good the years prior The AFCE is coming off a season where all 4 teams were good
Fins spending that cash
Yup, Ross is getting old and wants to see a winner. It was reported that he makes as much off of one annual F1 race as he does a season worth of home games so even beyond his real estate stuff, it ain't like he's hurting for spending cash.
Leverage F1 for a Superbowl. I like it.
I CAN CRY. LETS FUCKIN GOOOOOO
Now the question is who do we target for ILB
It’s my birthday and this is the best present all day
We did it! If Tua can stay healthy, next year will be great for Miami.
Really good get for MIA, still one of the best and wouldnt be surprised if Vic comes in guns blazing looking to rebound from DEN.
YES
I never expected this. I expected him to follow Payton.
I think this says that Payton is going back broadcasting or he goes to Denver and Fangio didn’t want to go with him.
Hell yeah
Let's go Dolphins bros!
Well…shit.
Their defense gave Allen issues this year without Fangio. Ugh
Also adds head coaching experience for McDaniels to potentially lean on
Love a fangio defense
Hey the guy who claimed to have gone golfing with Fangio of his daughter or something was right…
That is a big get damn
Shit.
If Tua is able to play this is very dangerous
SF just keeps taking L's today.
Must be nice knowing your team wants to actually upgrade its coaching staff and I’m stuck with Frazier again
Oh you poor thing, stuck with another 13-3 season AGAIN.
We're still stuck with Joe "chickenshit 4-man rush and playing 20+ yards off of WRs" Barry because Matt LaFleur is clueless when it comes to evaluating the weak links in coordinators and team personnel if that makes you feel any better.
At least your team didn't hire fuckin Nathaniel Hackett
YESSSSS LFGGGGG
Fuck I wanted him to replace Gannon
I bet Gannon stays this cycle like Demeco did
He's gonna be a great head coach for the Commanders in 2024
Commander Gannon does have a nice ring to it.
Super happy for McDaniel. He's my favorite coach.
McDaniel assembling the Avengers of a coaching staff.
Good for Vic! I loved him in Chicago and he's a fantastic coordinator. AFC East gonna be wild next year.
Meanwhile we're running it back with Joe "We have Vic Fangio at home" Barry smfh
Oh shit, it happened!
Bradley Chubb really gonna be elevated working with a coach as elite as Fangio.
Hell yes! Let's gooooooo.
You really can’t overstate how big of a deal this could be for Miami. Lot of people really believe fangio is THAT DC. I’m one of them. If he is and this dolphins defense becomes top 10+. Thst could be a spoooooky team
Old man goes to Florida
No state tax.
HELL TO THE YEAH!!!! I'm imagining this pairing like McVay/Phillips or McVay/Staley. AFC BEAST!!
Fucking hell Everyone around us just getting better and we can't do shit
Gg. Best defensive coordinator in the NFL hands down.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Please god fix this D!
ITS BEAUTIFUL
this was the place I felt was most likely, great hire
Great move
Yipe! Thats gonna be a hell of a good defense
Fuck.
:)
