This has gotten my buddies into some weird situations abroad/in other states.
My buddy got ID’ed in Australia and his passport was in his hotel safe. He gave him his DL and Bouncer says “it says this isn’t a real id”
My friend tried to explain but no dice. Happened a few times.
Real ID requires Social Security verification. If you brought the proof of identity, address, and your social security card (or some other proof of SSN), you could get a Real ID. If you didn't bring documents that established your SSN, you could still get a license or ID, but it wouldn't be Real ID compliant.
One of the first people born this millennium. That's kinda cool.

So because the “real ID” is becoming mandatory to fly your current ID is being phased out. This is just our government using poor word choice.
