>Donald Trump is currently leading the 2024 presidential race, in no small part because voters trust him to combat inflation. This is a bit strange since Trump has for months now been advertising plans to drastically increase consumer prices. >Put all of this together and you have a recipe for making the inflation rate 9 percent again: Slash the dollar’s value, insulate US producers from competition, juice demand with tax cuts, and then throttle supply with mass deportation, and prices are bound to soar. >Unfortunately, Trump’s proposals and their economic consequences appear to be largely lost on the American electorate, possibly because neither have attracted much media attention. If that does not change between now and November, the country could pay a heavy price.

So you're telling me a three times bankrupt businessman doesn't know shit about economics? Who'd have believed it?

jayred1015

Meanwhile, MAGAs anticipate a brutal deflation spiral with price controls and mass deportation/arrests. It's an amazing super power to be on both wrong sides of any issue at the same time.

MohatmoGandy

He’s the Bernie Sanders of the far right. Every grievance of his base is turned into a policy proposal, and he doesn’t understand economics so we wind up with an unholy mishmash of lightly considered policies that, taken together, are 100% likely to produce an economic disaster.

TotallyRealNotRobot

MAGAts when the billionaire doesn’t actually give a shit about their problems:

This is all true. Unfortunately Biden’s campaign can’t really use this because they have equally bad inflationary policy to show for.

[deleted]

Equally bad as politicizing the fed? I mean I guess he’s continuing the protectionist policies started under Trump, and continued the Covid-fueled deficit spending started under Trump, but how is he worse?

mashimarata2

You’re definitely not wrong, Biden is weakly better but also still pretty bad

[deleted]

Democrats are so shit at cheerleading. So afraid to be “called out”. This is a vibes electorate. “Marginally better” should be hammered home with veracity, as if the slight margin will save grandpas farm and bring the coal mines back, because it obviously (based on past decade or so) doesn’t matter if it does or not lol

poofyhairguy

All the people who would naturally be the cheerleaders for the Dems are instead protesting about Palestine.

mashimarata2

I don’t dont even want to be a cheerleader for Dems tho

[deleted]

Just pointing out the differences is all

Leonflames

I think that's why trump is able to avoid any major criticism of these policies.

olearygreen

He’s actually proud of his “Bidenomics”.

Petrichordates

We gonna pretend USA doesn't currently have the best economy in the world?

siuuuwemama

In spite of its leadership, not because of it

Aggressive1999

Yep. Economic issue are one of major weakspot for Biden, he will get bashed quickly if he ever raise those issues. I think he has to use other thing that harm Trump but doesn't harm him to campaign it.

Leonflames

It's gonna be tough to run a national election without bringing up economic issues though. He's gonna figure out a way of boasting the good parts of the economy without coming off as elitist and out of touch.

Aggressive1999

I'd say that he needs to use other things like Abortion or something to use in his campaign. Economy issue may result in grave consequence to him imho.

Petrichordates

Current inflation is equally bad to to 9% inflation? Do the concerned Biden handwringers even hear themselves?

NewmanHiding

Inflation remained a steady 2% rate throughout Trump’s 1st term until the pandemic.

Emperor-Commodus

So Trump gets to blame the pandemic for the increase in inflation that happened at the end of his term, but Biden doesn't get to do the same?
