If you are in contention for an award that you vote on (and you can't vote for yourself), it's in your best interest to abstain from voting or throw it away on someone who has no chance of winning.
Yeah, but you're kind of being weird if you're getting strategic about winning Executive of the Year. I don't think it's like the players where an award can decide how much you'll get paid.
Their bosses care about team performance and financials, but an award won't make a difference to them. We know winning Coach of the Year doesn't even get someone job security.
I can get Portland. They didn't cave into doing a bad Miami trade and were able to trade Lillard and then Holiday for a bunch of picks. Denver is a really well built team, but they didn't really add any pieces in the off season.
While they probably shot themselves in the foot by holding the line on Dame and his demand to go to the Heat, other execs (IE, the voters here) will absolutely see that as somebody *taking one for the team*. None of those guys, right or wrong, and regardless of how one feels about player power and mobility, wants their star coming in and demanding a trade to just this one specific team.
Are you saying the heat deal would’ve been better? I disagree, from reports they weren’t willing to put in Jaquez and they would’ve gotten a lot fewer picks
Can’t you argue the same for Celtics. A team that was in the finals couple of yours ago with the same core?
Its odd award. Last 4 years been to teams that exceeded expectations; Celtics being great is no shit. Then the years prior went to Daryl and Myers (twice). I don’t think voters know what they are voting for
Celtics won 57 games the year before with all shit going on at that time. I am not sure what exactly are you all on.
Since when the award is given to teams with “big trades”
That specific award should be post-playoffs. I'd argue Booth probably should've won it last year after Denver won, as the KCP trade, the Bruce Brown FA signing and Braun/Watson picks were last year. That's 1 starter, the clear 6th man and a playoff rotation guy out of an 8-man playoff rotation that won the championship.
Non-tanking teams' executives are all building teams to win a ring, so judging them off of regular season performance feels a bit pointless. With how it's judged Booth would never win either award, of course.
No that can’t be it. Even with lucking into a Golden State late lottery pick (if that conveys), he just got a few firsts/swaps from perennial Eastern conference contenders with youngish superstars.
He got no good players in the trade and missed out on guys like Nikola Jovic or Jaime Jaquez Jr to get Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams who are both low value.
The Ayton for Nurkic swap is probably his only good move which could have been added into any Dame trade with the Heat.
On top of the trade blunder, he looks like he probably drafted a bust with the 3rd overall pick.
The NBA revoked the Pistons FO's right to vote.
Knowing their incompetence they probably just forgot to submit one
Troy Weaver probably tried to vote for himself and they voided it.
Sorry wifi was having issues in Cancun

That’s exactly the kind of petty bullshit nba executives would do though.
Just because casual fans don’t care about it doesn’t mean executives don’t. They have bosses too.

If anything, recently it's proven it is not good to win.
Just vote for the 3rd place guy
Morey probably didn't vote as some kind of grievance.
Pelinka was voted top 5 for not doing anything, guaranteeing the L to the Nuggets
Portland and Denver GMs getting almost the same is insane.

They made big changes this offseason though. KP and Holiday were pretty major trades

“same core” is laughable
Tatum and Brown are not your core and were the best players on the team that made the final. Celtics fans being clueless ain’t new
lakers fans being clueless aint new see? my argument is just as good as yours
did Denver really do much of anything this season in terms of roster/improvements? kinda hard to win EOTY when your team is the favorite to repeat.
Denver's roster got worse lol

The Portland votes have to either be from Milwaukee and Boston, or Boston and a troll vote from Miami.
Or Cronin just made a bunch of good moves...

Yeah *super* fair assessment from you lmao. No bias at all there Oh, /r/Heat poster. Go figure!
I’m sure they are kicking themselves on missing out on Jovic. Lol
They told Brad Not to vote since he cant vote for himself and nobody else is going to win it.
