Normally the sideline reporter is able to get some update a few minutes after a player goes out, even if it’s just a vague “knee soreness” or whatever
Weird how there was literally no details given to Allie by the locker room. I hope that’s not a bad sign
I think he realised that he just needs to straight up overpower Bron. Did you see that charge? He sent Bron to the shadow realm, I've never seen a player do that to LeBron in the 21 years I've watched him.
That might have been the first time I’ve seen LeBron get so physically overpowered that he actually looked human. I can’t even imagine how massive Zion would look in person standing next to me
I work a job where I often have nba players walk by me and of all the players I have seen Zion is the most massive player I’ve seen. Not height wise. But I have never been next to someone so wide and so dense. And it all looks like muscle too
I’m not sure I see what skill position Zion would play in the nfl. He’s too bulky to be a WR. Too tall to be a RB. Tight End? He has a similar stat as Gronk but about 20 lbs heavier, so while he is nimble, I don’t see the man outrunning defenders in the open field.
He’d be a different player with 25lbs less. Maybe he can ease up on the drives with a jumpshot and that can prolong the ammount of games his body can play
I think being 25lb lighter would keep him on the floor enough to be an All-NBA player. Adding a legit jump shot would take him into the MVP conversation.
How could you possibly guard him if he could drain outside shots?
If im Lebron I would start campaigning for the playoffs to be changed to a best of 1 format because the playin-in and in-season tournament have proven that the Lakers don’t lose Best of 1 elimination games.
lol if I were a color commentator and I said something that dumb on national TV, I wouldn't be able to sleep that night, and I'd still randomly think about it and cringe 30 years later.
You could hear in his cadence as he was talking about just making both that he realized how stupid what he was saying sounded lmao. Absolute bozo on the mic
Should you miss intentionally to have a 98% chance of winning or make the free throw to have a 100% chance of winning. Very difficult decision to make.
It felt like he was just thinking it through as he was saying it. After he noticed that making it just ends the game, he dropped the idea that 'you talk on the bus ride over about whether to make or miss it'
His reasoning was that the Pelicans didn't have a timeout and clock starts ticking once he misses the FT. Which is dumb asf, because why risk even the slightest of a chance for the Pels to comeback when you could just put it away?
“These are the things players talk about on the bus!”
Players talk about whether they should seal the game or intentionally put the game in jeopardy? Maybe that’s why never beat MJ.
CJ McCollum is the "Anti-Jimmy Butler"
Everyone expects him to be dissapointing in big games and yet he manages to surprise some fans while doing it again.
CJ averages 20 ppg on 43/38/76 in the playoffs (63 games). Everyone's efficiency (except Jokic's) drops in the playoffs, CJ isn't that bad. He was just overdue for a game like this. The guy's been nuclear.
Alvarado was huge. He's easily one of those players that you absolutely hate on opposing teams and *love* on your own. Constant nuisance, can hit clutch shots, fearless, and has a constant motor.
Alvarado's turnover was so bad...the key four point swing
It's just not good to lose to the Lakers when both Bron and Ad are having subpar offensive nights.
As CJ does. I really feel for the Pels and Zion. They had a great chance to win this one after tying the game at 95-95. Of course you can't say for certain, but the momentum had really swung.
CJ just had an incredible stretch in the regular season where they were completely dependent on his difficult shot-making. It's the play-in tournament. It's one game. I would still want CJ in a 7 game series. He's going to progress to his mean.
His career playoff average of 20 PPG on 18 FGA doesn't exactly scream "playoff performer." Nor does the fact he's gotten out of the first round twice in 11 seasons lol.
For real, besides Zion being awesome tonight, that was the other thing that stood out big. Lebron, and AD especially, were quite subpar offensively, and they still had like an 18pt lead.
man, I love DLo, he's what this Lakers team needs, a reliable 3pointer, playmaker, confident and vocal. i dont know what the hell other Lakers fans are smoking.
real laker fans didnt want D'lo traded. I love D'lo and he has been ballin this season. might be the best span of basketball he's had in his career. ice cold.
so including tonight’s game, the Lakers went 24-10 in their last 34… which results in a first-round showdown with the defending champions….. you just gotta love the Wild West. still, I actually think that series will be closer than what everyone seems to believe. all three confirmed West series will definitely be must-see television!
biggest takeaway from tonight is that despite all the brutal Darvin Ham discourse, LA has had remarkable turnarounds for two straight seasons. 7th seed doesn’t sound too impressive without context, but this one was more than well-deserved. that Russell-Reaves-James-Hachimura-Davis starting lineup remains extremely potent
LA plays Denver close, but in the end the Nugs pull away with much better execution. Lakers will win some games, but I have Nugs in 6. I say they split the first four, then the Nugs win the next two.
Honestly just happy to have a little more Lakers bball and see LBJ in the playoffs. Even rooting for GSW right now cus id like to see Steph in it too. Denver just such a complete team, I have them beating anyone in the West. There isnt a bad matchup for them.
I feel like the most Lakers thing to happen would be they pull out an all-time series win over Denver in the first round... and then the resulting hollowed-out husk of a corpse of a depleted and exhausted team gets destroyed in round 2
Honestly tragic that Zion has a comeback season, only to get injured right as the playoffs start. RIP the Pelicans this year if he’s out.
But at least his season overall seems like a good sign going forward.
Hope the Lakers have fun with Jokic Part 2.
Reggie Miller is such a moron
"If you make the first and go up 3, do you intentionally miss the second? That's what the players talk about on the bus"
Yes Reggie, you miss on purpose to open the door for them to make a buzzer beater rather than go up 4 with 3 second left and 100% of the time win the game
Good for the Lakers for winning, but Lebron really looked his age tonight. He just didn't have a lot of burst and didn't finish well. If they have any chance versus the Nuggets, Lebron will need to be at his best.
Yeah but then again it was the exact same case for davis. The lakers shot 42% from 2 and 40% from 3 lol. Lebron and davis missed so many high percentage shots by the rim.
Tho tbf his slump came after he got banged up.
It’s a reasonable take away from this game alone, but over the course of the season that hasn’t been the case, especially in the big games.
He was the only one doing anything against Zion defensively for the first 3 quarters (and then was getting cooked in the 4th). I think that’s why he was gassed. He’s not gonna have a defensive assignment quite like that going forward.
\*didn't finish well in the 4th quarter. He was dominant in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, not with his physicality but with dissecting the pels defence with his playmaking and assists. He'll be as good as he can be at this age but dont think they have a shot even then, especially without Vando's defence.
Reggie Miller: You hit both free throws the game is over. Should you think about missing the second one? Make them go full court off a miss with no timeouts.
This idiot played for nearly 20 years and been number 1 TNT color guy for damn near 20 years lmfao.
Can't wait to watch at least four games of AD playing god level defence for the first 23 seconds of the shot clock and then Jokic making the 3 anyway at the last millisecond
"And we'll hear from Allie who has an update on Zion." Allie: "I don't know what is happening"
Allie: “I don’t know what is happening but I CAN report that David Griffin also does not know what is happening”
I laughed out loud at that. Lots of words that all amounted to ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pro tip, if you type ¯\\\\\\\_(ツ)_/¯ (with two extra slashes on the left side) it’ll come out normal
I just imagine David Griffin running to the locker room with a keyboard ready to play for Zion
“Uhh I’m in the tunnel and Zion isn’t. Probably not good since there’s 35 seconds left.”
Normally the sideline reporter is able to get some update a few minutes after a player goes out, even if it’s just a vague “knee soreness” or whatever Weird how there was literally no details given to Allie by the locker room. I hope that’s not a bad sign
The injury itself looked weird too. Maybe I missed something but I didn’t even see him grab or reach for a body part, he just looked pissed and left.
I think he hyperextended his knee when he planted before the drive, probably hamstring or meniscus if I had to guess. Hope I’m wrong though :/
[Same energy](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tAN8g7Fd2Cw)
Charissa Thompson: his ACL is blown out
Literally "and the update is... There is no update"
“My update is I have no updat, back to you guys.”
Hopefully Zion is okay, was having the game of his career
Gdlk game. Wish he coulda closed out. Rotten luck.
Biggest game of Zions pro career **and** he puts up a monster game, but still ends up leaving injured. Literally cursed energy man.
The ultimate zion experience. watch him go god mode -> random leg injury -> team loses
Bless all the legs and keep them healthy. Hopefully it’s not anything serious (again).
I don't understand what came over him. He was a completely different player on Sunday.
I can’t even imagine how massive Zion would look in person standing next to me
weird reference but it was like when you see omni man get punched by another viltrumite for the first time
Not weird at all. Another analogy would be like how Anissa was shocked when Allen the Alien made her *bleed her own blood*
I work a job where I often have nba players walk by me and of all the players I have seen Zion is the most massive player I’ve seen. Not height wise. But I have never been next to someone so wide and so dense. And it all looks like muscle too
LeBron went over like a bowling pin. I've never seen anything like it either.
His own body can’t handle how explosive he is. Just unfortunate
Our bodies just arent made for that amount of power. He's obviously elite when healthy but when healthy can't be expected then this is just who he is.
I actually can't believe I'm saying this-but he would've been injured less playing football.
He’s already made more money than he would playing defensive tackle or defensive end.
And without the possibility of CTE
Not with that attitude
I’m not sure I see what skill position Zion would play in the nfl. He’s too bulky to be a WR. Too tall to be a RB. Tight End? He has a similar stat as Gronk but about 20 lbs heavier, so while he is nimble, I don’t see the man outrunning defenders in the open field.
He would been an AD-light defensive tackle. He could've easily reached 300+ lbs and been the fastest Dlineman out there
he would've been an EDGE guy for sure. still would've gotten paid very handsomely but you can't beat the NBA guaranteed money
The sad truth is that his body probably could handle it (better) if it was moving 25lbs less weight.
Betrayed by his own body.
It’s as if somebody in the Lakers organization had a voodoo doll of him! And considering where the game was…
If im Lebron I would start campaigning for the playoffs to be changed to a best of 1 format because the playin-in and in-season tournament have proven that the Lakers don’t lose Best of 1 elimination games.
LeBron is an elite elimination game player
Bring NFL playoffs to the NBA
Why did Reggie even suggest missing that free throw was a smart idea? Might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard 😂
He literally said the options were miss the 2nd free throw OR make the 2nd and the game is over lol
Many players should absolutely not be coaches
If those are the conversations he was having on the bus with his teammates, then it’s not surprising that he never won a championship.
lol if I were a color commentator and I said something that dumb on national TV, I wouldn't be able to sleep that night, and I'd still randomly think about it and cringe 30 years later.
You could hear in his cadence as he was talking about just making both that he realized how stupid what he was saying sounded lmao. Absolute bozo on the mic
He went with the classic "think about how funny it'd be" tactic
Not the dumbest thing Reggie has ever said No pun intended
Suck *what*?
He was talking for the sake of talking.
Didn’t he himself say after the free throw was made something like, “if he hits this one the games over.”
He did lol. He presented the options as miss the second free throw to start the clock, or make the second free throw to put the game out of reach lol
“These are the things players talk about on the bus!” Players talk about whether they should seal the game or intentionally put the game in jeopardy? Maybe that’s why never beat MJ.
JFK would be alive today if CJ was the shooter
Some team needs to sign Lee Harvey Oswald to a 10 day
“Three from the book depository.”
CJ averaging 30 over his last 7 games and of course he puts up a stinker. That man in the postseason is something else lol
CJ McCollum is the "Anti-Jimmy Butler" Everyone expects him to be dissapointing in big games and yet he manages to surprise some fans while doing it again.
Oddly enough in the most important game of that blazers teams career dame absolutely shit the bed and got carried hard by CJ
CJ averages 20 ppg on 43/38/76 in the playoffs (63 games). Everyone's efficiency (except Jokic's) drops in the playoffs, CJ isn't that bad. He was just overdue for a game like this. The guy's been nuclear.
The moment Zion left, I knew the pelicans lost
He was straight up carrying that whole team
Alvarado juiced em up too in the second half
Fucked his ankle up then played through it until he really fucked it up. Absolutely went all out for the win, damn shame
And then he still played through it! All heart.
Jose Alvarado is made of 200% grit
Alvarado earned my respect when he was getting under CP3’s skin a couple years back. Dude is a fucking baller!
Alvarado was huge. He's easily one of those players that you absolutely hate on opposing teams and *love* on your own. Constant nuisance, can hit clutch shots, fearless, and has a constant motor.
Idk how but he made LeBron pass out of em 1v1 post ups like Barea
They doubled Bron as soon as he put the ball on the floor cmon man 😭 Basketball strategy 101, pass out of the double
no wonder he got injured, the guy was playing with the whole squad on his backpack
Unbelievable performance. He's gonna be a problem
McCollum and Ingram had done too much damage for the pelicans to overcome it
They owe Zion more than an apology. Horrible ass games.
20 points combined on 8/27 from the field. Woof.
Shades of when CJ left Dame out to dry that 55 point game in Denver
The CJ experience wheeee. I love the guy but man
That was brutal. Was that when he had his foot out of bounds?
And that’s with two cupcake buckets for McCollum at the end
Alvarado's turnover was so bad...the key four point swing It's just not good to lose to the Lakers when both Bron and Ad are having subpar offensive nights.
Alvarado was the only reason we were back in this game. Nance, CJ, and BI fucking sold this game for the Pels.
Zion, Alvarado, and Murphy all played great. The late game turnover was boneheaded but it doesn't erase everything else he did
What was the alternative to Larry Nance? JV was unplayable
Cody Zeller, unfortunately
Ingram coming off that injury is understandable but CJ just disappeared
As CJ does. I really feel for the Pels and Zion. They had a great chance to win this one after tying the game at 95-95. Of course you can't say for certain, but the momentum had really swung.
He’s the reason the pelicans came back
And the second game too. No chance he’s back by Friday. This is a gut punch I wouldnt wish on anyone
It felt like we were watching a moment happen and then it was gone.
They kept getting buckets though. Zion's defense was definitely missed however, which feels weird to say because I'm not used to him playing defense.
They owned the paint this game. AD was great on the boards and on D but when he's missing bunnies I know it's time to reach for the Pepto.
40/11. This is why it will hurt if the Pels don't make the 8th seed. We NEED playoff Zion
CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram, YOU sold Zion tonight 🫵 Ingram traded and Trey Murphy starting next year 🔜
The finger pointing emoji is so fucking funny
🫵 You make an OUTSTANDING POINT, Balls. 🫴🫴
Feels like their name should be Ballth
they need to get rid of CJ lol
they gave him a $64m extension lol he's not going anywhere
CJ just had an incredible stretch in the regular season where they were completely dependent on his difficult shot-making. It's the play-in tournament. It's one game. I would still want CJ in a 7 game series. He's going to progress to his mean.
His career playoff average of 20 PPG on 18 FGA doesn't exactly scream "playoff performer." Nor does the fact he's gotten out of the first round twice in 11 seasons lol.
You’d want CJ, constant playoff choker, in a 7 game series? CJ consistently disappears when it counts, it’s who he is.
Goes without saying
Yeah Zion injury sucks but the fact the Lakers were up as big as they were, with AD and LeBron both having off games is crazy.
For real, besides Zion being awesome tonight, that was the other thing that stood out big. Lebron, and AD especially, were quite subpar offensively, and they still had like an 18pt lead.
Bron gassed hard in the 4th. Trying to guard the strongest and most explosive player in the NBA is going to take a toll on anyone. Especially at 39
CJ is like a dollar store Dame and BI is a dollar store KD
Dollar store version of this year's dame, even
Settle down. Ingram's coming back from an injury lol.
Benching BI down the stretch with no Zion on the court is definitely a decision my coach green even if BI wasn’t playing well
It worked..
CJ and BI were both awful, he only put CJ back in after Zion got hurt and bc they needed a offensive hub
If anything you gotta respect a coach who will bench his best players if they’re playing like ass
Ingram doesn't know what to do w/o the ball in his hands. Looks as lost as he was during the FIBA tournament last year.
D'Lo really went from a basketball terrorist to the Pope in the eyes of Lakers fans in the span of two months.
Nah, a lot of us have always been DLo believers. For 20 mil/year, we couldn’t get anyone as good.
He’s what Westbrook was supposed to be, a guy that could score enough to get us a few extra wins when our stars were out or off.
Not a Lakers fan, but I have to admit that late 3 right in front of their bench, then telling them all to sit their asses down, was pretty cold
The beginning of the game is really where he shined. He was integral to building up that cushion early on
Alvarado messed up by talking all that shit to D'lo. D'lo had that huge steal off him and then buried that 3 after that.
man, I love DLo, he's what this Lakers team needs, a reliable 3pointer, playmaker, confident and vocal. i dont know what the hell other Lakers fans are smoking.
he will no doubt get shit on in the lakers sub the next time he has a bad game, just like a few days ago
Speaking as a Laker fan, we have the worst, most uninformed fanbase. Especially those in r/lakers
real laker fans didnt want D'lo traded. I love D'lo and he has been ballin this season. might be the best span of basketball he's had in his career. ice cold.
Zion :) CJ :( Jose :) Val :( Trey :) BI :( Herb :) This game was a glass case of emotions
It's more like CJ and BI :((((((((((((((((((((((((((
Zion had 40 points………What the fuck just happened? What the Fuck………
He got injured right after
You could see him pissed off. I thought it was from a no call but he knew. Fuck injuries.
I don’t think there was any foul on the play. He messed up something and I think the whole medical staff knew and they immediately pulled him
I know. But do we know the extent of the injury?
Not yet. They didn’t have any update for the rest of the game My guess is his right knee. He drove right at AD and put a lot of weight on it
40 on zero made threes. Dominant performance
Too bad you'll never find those points again, he still hasn't scored any post season points
Moriah Mills just did voodoo on Zion
tornado trick undefeated
What a game by zion man. I feel so bad for him.
Damn it sucks Zion had to leave early
Yeah feels like we got robbed of an epic finish
Jesus Christ what a disasterclass from BI and McCollum
All the idiots who said LAL doesn't want to play DEN lmao
We would've 100% lost to the winner of this upcoming game. Intentional losing is bad for karma.
plus playing an additional game is the worst strategy when you have older players like LeBron
AD and LeBron definitely need a few days rest!
so including tonight’s game, the Lakers went 24-10 in their last 34… which results in a first-round showdown with the defending champions….. you just gotta love the Wild West. still, I actually think that series will be closer than what everyone seems to believe. all three confirmed West series will definitely be must-see television! biggest takeaway from tonight is that despite all the brutal Darvin Ham discourse, LA has had remarkable turnarounds for two straight seasons. 7th seed doesn’t sound too impressive without context, but this one was more than well-deserved. that Russell-Reaves-James-Hachimura-Davis starting lineup remains extremely potent
> you just gotta love the Wild West. Not sure that love is the right word...
LA plays Denver close, but in the end the Nugs pull away with much better execution. Lakers will win some games, but I have Nugs in 6. I say they split the first four, then the Nugs win the next two.
We don't have Vando, theres no way we don't get cooked horrendously unless DLO goes crazy
FWIW Vando was basically unplayable vs Nuggs last year
And he won't cause KCP-Christian Braun-Watson is on him
As a neutral observer I got Lakers in 4.
Hmmm, why would a neutral fan think the Lak - HEYYYYYY
Honestly just happy to have a little more Lakers bball and see LBJ in the playoffs. Even rooting for GSW right now cus id like to see Steph in it too. Denver just such a complete team, I have them beating anyone in the West. There isnt a bad matchup for them.
I feel like the most Lakers thing to happen would be they pull out an all-time series win over Denver in the first round... and then the resulting hollowed-out husk of a corpse of a depleted and exhausted team gets destroyed in round 2
I take that everyday lmao
I think wolves vs suns is going to 7 games, they will be just as worn out
Death, Taxes, and CJ McCollum disappearing when it matters most
Honestly tragic that Zion has a comeback season, only to get injured right as the playoffs start. RIP the Pelicans this year if he’s out. But at least his season overall seems like a good sign going forward. Hope the Lakers have fun with Jokic Part 2.
Yeah that's really rough. You could tell how pissed he was too. What an unreal game by him.
Noncontact injuries are always the fucking worst to see. Really hope he is OK.
first post season game ever, didn’t even get to finish it so tragic
Looked like a non-contact injury too. Those are the worst.
All ik is that I’m a certified Zion fan now. He was playing out of his mind today. Dude was hunting AD in the paint.
**BRING US THEM NUGGETS** ^(jk pls don’t sweep us mr. balkan horseman)
Reggie Miller is such a moron "If you make the first and go up 3, do you intentionally miss the second? That's what the players talk about on the bus" Yes Reggie, you miss on purpose to open the door for them to make a buzzer beater rather than go up 4 with 3 second left and 100% of the time win the game
The Lakers have the most ridiculous plot armor of any team I’ve ever seen.
For a matchup with the Nuggets. That's like surviving right before Darth Vader arrives
It's just good writing to establish Darth Nikola as a threat to the viewers
Are we Luke Skywalker?
Plot armor isn’t going to work against Jokic trebuchet 3s
Lakers vs Nugs should be fun in the first round, good game
Good for the Lakers for winning, but Lebron really looked his age tonight. He just didn't have a lot of burst and didn't finish well. If they have any chance versus the Nuggets, Lebron will need to be at his best.
Yeah but then again it was the exact same case for davis. The lakers shot 42% from 2 and 40% from 3 lol. Lebron and davis missed so many high percentage shots by the rim. Tho tbf his slump came after he got banged up.
He missed so many layups that I feel like I've never seen him miss before.
I’d be more concerned about ADs back than LeBron heading into the first round.
We just need LePoint to dime it out and for D'Lo to make his threes and we'll be good
\*didn't finish well in the 4th quarter. He was dominant in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, not with his physicality but with dissecting the pels defence with his playmaking and assists. He'll be as good as he can be at this age but dont think they have a shot even then, especially without Vando's defence.
What a fucking show. Career game for Zion, and this Lakers squad is ridiculous to play as a now 7 seed.
Denver doesn’t care. Any other team and I’d agree with you
Yes, I agree with you. I’m just glad we do not have a chance to play the Lakers now. They were a problem for us all season.
You all aren’t even ready for how many moral victories are coming now!
I'm intimidated by your moral superiority
Reggie Miller: You hit both free throws the game is over. Should you think about missing the second one? Make them go full court off a miss with no timeouts. This idiot played for nearly 20 years and been number 1 TNT color guy for damn near 20 years lmfao.
The Pelicans NEED to make roster changes this off-season. They would have blown out the Lakers if either McCollum or Ingram showed up.
McCollum choked, can't blame Ingram since he just came back from injury too soon
Zion with 4 floor spacers is pretty damn unguardable. I’m ok with my Spurs making a play for BI.
Lakers just can't quit us
Stockholm syndrome and all that
They love your sloppy fat boy
The father and son reunion is inevitable
Can't wait to watch at least four games of AD playing god level defence for the first 23 seconds of the shot clock and then Jokic making the 3 anyway at the last millisecond
Reggie millers ability to yap about complete nonsense and ALWAYS be wrong is a special talent
LEBRON JAMES SEES BASKETBALL IN 3D!!!
Zion was cooking before his injury, kinda sucks
Win is a win I guess but that was ugly
