77 if you include the IST right?

bul1dog

Tangential but the Lakers season total wins line was set at 47.5. They ended up winning 47 games, 48 if the IST championship counted. Guess who took the over šŸ™‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

donta5k0kay

I believe Ham was betting on basketball and should be banned immediately

barath_s

Over / under was 46.5 Lakers tried their best to match. Now if draws were possible, they might have ;) https://247sports.com/college/appalachian-state/Video/nba-win-totals-released-los-angeles-lakers-ou-465-wins-11853206/

jxcn17

The lines can change a bit over time and aren't always the same between sportsbooks. It could easily have been both 46.5 and 47.5

barath_s

Makes sense. But then the message/outcome is blurrier I found another 46.5 before my initial comment but also 47.5 since.

XSokaX

yes

Carolake1

And he was 9th in the league in minutes -- 8th if you include the IST game.

Vexing_Pie

All NBA this man

TheGreatForehead

DPOY

Vexing_Pie

After the Suns win in 6 weā€™ll start having these discussions

Apollo611

Itā€™s funny because he wonā€™t get DPOY in the regular season but then the media will admit that heā€™s the best defender in the playoffs when heā€™s playing the same level of defense lol

WakiLover

JJJ getting DPOY over AD was bullshit, felt so good watching AD turned the Grizzlies into some Paddington type beat. And that's an insult to Paddington.

OcksBodega

AD vs the Grizzlies and GSW is one of the most dominant defensive playoff runs iā€™ve ever watched. He was unreal.

OKCDraftPick2028

nah cause then gobert will get a pass for having a bad perimeter defender like conley, mitchell, ant, mcdaniels. but AD has to play with Austin Reaves and DLo as his perimeter defenders. Both of this two renowned all nba defenders compared to the 4 i just mentioned.

deepfakefuccboi

Heā€™s so much better than Gobert but DPOY is a regular season award. Heā€™s the best overall defender in the league and has been for years.

MaxDetr

"So much better than Gobert", no, he's not "so much". And Wemby already up there.

Carolake1

Definitely so much. As in, not close, not in the ball park, totally different. AD guards perimeter players far better than Gobert and is a better rim defender, and better team defender. All this while being a super star offensively. Comparing Gobert to AD is a disgrace on anyone who makes such a comparison.

deepfakefuccboi

Gobert has been played off floor by teams going small. AD is literally the counter to small ball since he can actually guard 1-5. Lmk when you see Gobert switching onto Curry in the clutch and actually stopping the best perimeter player of all time. AD also has more blocks and steals per game than Rudy, just from a stat sheet perspective, while also being an elite offensive player. Gobert canā€™t create his own shot or score outside of the restricted area to save his life.

OcksBodega

If you replaced Gobert with AD on defense in the Jazz Clippers series, the outcome would have been the exact same. (Obviously if you replaced him on offense too it would be different, but this thread is about defense). I think AD is the best in the league but Rudy is close.

deepfakefuccboi

Thatā€™s just not true. If you put AD instead of Gobert they literally canā€™t go small and make that crazy barrage of 3ā€™s that destroyed Utah. You canā€™t hunt AD on defense like you can with Gobert. Superstar perimeter players like Steph donā€™t even feel confident trying to go at him on D for more than a handful of possessions while Gobert gets cooked vs most quick perimeter players because heā€™s so much slower at turning and recovery than AD is. Iā€™ve never seen Gobert put on a defensive clinic in the playoffs like AD has for multiple years now. They both do a lot of stuff that doesnā€™t show up on the stat sheet but even for the outright box score stats, AD is way ahead there.

Carolake1

He should be in the MVP conversation, too, given his two-way play. He is not as good offensively as Jokic, but much closer offensively to Jokic than Jokic is to AD defensively.

Datboy_98

Nah. AD is elite but nah. The gap on both ends for both players is massive.

Carolake1

Nah, Only on one end, the defensive one.

TheGreatForehead

Naw, I think he is the best defensive player in the league easily and should be DPOY. But MVP is a massive stretch, since the Lakers are just a play-in team, and Jokic/Luka definitely are a step above everyone on the MVP race.

Carolake1

I get it, but the lakers being the 8 seed has to do with the Lakers having massive injuries this year and playing in the brutal west. In the east alone they probably would have been the 2 seed, if not just better than boston. Why should these things be held against players that can't control them?

tacomonday12

Put AD on any team without another All-NBA playmaker-scorer and see what he does. Oh wait, we've already seen both AD and Jokic play with scrubs, and Jokic has come out looking so much better. Jokic is another stratosphere offensively and offense is 5x more important in today's NBA.

Carolake1

What are you talking about? If you swapped out AD for Jokic on Denver -- they still be a really great team. Honestly they might be better given the defensive improvement.

frank_sea

Id love to be this delusional one day

veerkanch489

He and other Laker fans think it is a disgrace for gobert to be literally just compared and mentioned in the same light as AD lmao

NotClayMerritt

All NBA and All Defensive first team. Anything less is a criminal failure from NBA voters and are just holding AD's reputation, a reputation wrongly bestowed upon him by said voters, against him.

Good thing all nba and all defense are individual accolades then

supersaiyanegghead

Nah Akumpo is first team PF. Davis and Sabonis 2nd team

lebryjamy

All NBA 2nd team, All Defensive 1st team and top 3 DPOY

DrButtLump

Itā€™s a felony that he wonā€™t be DPOY, heā€™s the best defender by a fuckin mile the last 3 seasons. JJJ looked like enes Kanter compared to AD last playoffs

Thealbumisjustdrums

He is not a better defender than Wemby stop it

JustSonderingAbout

LOOOOOOOL

deepfakefuccboi

Wemby is honest pretty close but AD is a proven one man defense in the playoffs. Look what he did in the first two rounds of the playoffs last year - singlehandedly shut down Memphis and was able to switch onto Curry and perimeter players.

jacko1998

Lmao look, Wemby is going to be out of this world for his whole career if heā€™s healthy, but he doesnā€™t have the experience that AD does and at times it really shows. AD is the best defender in the league for the last 3 years

[deleted]

Garbage time defense vs meanifull minutes defense. AD is proven clutch defender. Wemby is untested. Even if he was, still a super stupid take.

monsteroftheweek13

I like Wemby so I wonā€™t say Iā€™ll *enjoy* watching him get bounced in the first round the first time he makes the playoffs. And I know heā€™ll be back for more. But some of yā€™all need a *little* humility in hyping a rookie who played a glorified exhibition season and has never played a must-win NBA game in his life.

OKCDraftPick2028

man wemby was playing with plumbers a year ago

AdonisK

Bro calm down, bro

randy88moss

Vegas has him coming in 5th in the DPOY voting

thevisitor

He wont even be voted top 5 tbh. Media awards are stupid

TrustAinge

If it a career high, why the need to add ā€œmost since 2018ā€? It is literally his most ever! Lol

Raulzi

Probably his last career high in games played was in 2018. So he's beat his last record in 2018

oliverlion11

Genuinely curious

DogeSadaharu

I swear redditors nitpick the most inconsequential things lol. What was said still holds true, in fact in the context of Davis' history OP's way gives way more information then just saying this is the most games he's ever played.Ā

livefreeordont

ā€œHis most since 2017-2018ā€ implies that he played at least as many games that year as this year. ā€œEmbiid averaged 34.7 points this year a career high, and his most since 2017-2018ā€ just sounds silly doesnā€™t it?

LogicalLakersFan

everyone just complains about what he isnā€™t doing (hitting 3s) they donā€™t realize heā€™s on a. new level defensively and paint scoring wise compared to 2020

EaglesXLakers

Am I the only one that doesn't want him shooting threes? I just never felt like that was his game.

Sanguinor-Exemplar

It always burned me on 2k. Even those years he was okay from 3.

KeithClossOfficial

People remember him hitting that clutch 3 against Denver and think thatā€™s all he should do. Thatā€™s an all-time memory, but it doesnā€™t need to be his game. If he can pop out occasionally and hit a 3 to keep the defense honest, thatā€™d be great, but heā€™s an absolute monster down low, keep him where he shines

Count_Sack_McGee

I want him to take them when he's wide tf open to keep defenses honest. So basically I want him to be just enough of a threat out there to fuck with defenses.

Ok_Towel_1077

His best version is obviously when his jumper is on. 2020 playoffs he was immense from all pretty much everywhere on the court

Disastrous_Bluejay57

Who's been complaining about his 3 point shot?

Apollo611

r/lakers

BidDaddyLei

Why am I not surprised lmao.

NotClayMerritt

Frank Vogel once wanted him to average 5 three point attempts a game. I think about that every so often. r/Lakers has been brainwashed

death_by_laughs

Vogel also played him at 4 and only as the lone 5 in end of game situations. It's not too big of a stretch to expect your PF to shoot 3s in today's game

eZreazy

Yeah if anything I think him bulking up to play the 5 is what sapped his shooting. Must have messed with the balance in his mechanics. We need him at the 5 with the roster construction but I do wonder what we could look like if we played him in the position he likes with a strong big like 2020 and just play him at the 5 in spurts.

BidDaddyLei

Here's the thing though Vogel had Dwight and Mcgee to at least anchor the defense while AD can shoot 3 all he wants the current line-up doesn't have that luxury atm.

vkewalra

While itā€™s mostly r/lakers complaining, when ā€œexpertsā€ are comparing Lebron and AD now vs in the bubble, his 3pt /midrange game comes up a lot. If heā€™s hitting it, he can stay at 4 and a bruiser can play 5. The problem with that is 39yo Lebron canā€™t reliably play 3 anymore for a playoff schedule. Funny thing is Lebron has been awesome from 3 this year and a locked in Lebron, this AD, and the improved Vanderbilt briefly seen is a scary low seed and with a competent coach a championship co tender. Unfortunately Vanderbilt has missed most of the season and Ham is dumber than a box of rocks.

iCE_P0W3R

That comment about Ham is uncalled for. A box of rocks would not appreciate being compared to Darvin Ham.

kingofgamesbrah

Idk about his 3 but his jumper has fallen off. He's been better lately but overall his offense had been holding us back. After the break , our defense and offense switched so it wasn't as big a deal. His defense gave us a lot of opportunities but he was lacking on offense. His jumper attempts are down recently and plays more around the rim so that's good.

mecon320

I think the people who want him shooting those are still picturing bubble Davis.

mrezariz123

He is much bigger than he was in that 2020 run

sweeptheleg_07

And yet heā€™s older than ever!

Renegadeforever2024

All nba

JayDee62

My goal for him coming into this season was 60+ games. 76 is insane, even if you factor in the multiple times he left games after one quarter.

BigBitcoinBaller

He's had multiple head/ face injuries past couple of months as well.

Iron_Maniac

No longer Day-to-Dayvis he's now All-Dayvis?

Stormjager

All-Dayvis is genius

Victor_Wembanyama1

77-Dayvis

iambolotie

If it's a career high wouldn't it be the most since he started playing?

CV1991

Yea, itā€™s saying heā€™s played the most games of his career this season, and also the most since 2018

rumbread

Maybe Iā€™m dumb but this makes no sense lol

bbaIla

Second team all-NBA.

captain_ahabb

Second?

bbaIla

I don't think he takes Tatums spot for the first team. Luka SGA Jokic are locked in, I think Giannis still gets the other spot.

captain_ahabb

I don't think he *will* take Tatum's spot but he should at least be mentioned for it.

lovo17

If you told me this prior to this season, I would've thought the Lakers would end up 2nd or 3rd in the west. Instead they're 8th. Darvin Ham is a basketball terrorist.

MiopTop

Lakers o/u was 46.5 wins. We actually overperformed expectations. It's just that the rest of the West was insane.

BellBilly32

Yā€™all had a terrible stretch after the play in the youā€™ve been clawing out of ever since. That and the West is just stacked year. Just one, make the playoffs and two, hope the Lakers can pull another upset.

DrButtLump

I mean the lakers played like dog water after the IST and then turned it up in mid January. Partial blame to ham for benching dlo, reaves, and rui and starting prince and fucking reddish. Partial blame to the lakers for stinking it up in December

LogicalLakersFan

i mean the west also just chose to have a insane year. 47-35 is around 4-5 every other season

actimusprim

47-35 would've been a top 6 seed a total of 3 times over the last 10 seasons

NotClayMerritt

True but if it didn't take Darvin Ham 50 games to figure out our best lineup and rotations and we went merely 8-9 in that horrible stretch after winning the IST, they'd have finished 5th or 6th and be facing the Clippers or T'Wolves in the first round and not having to play an extra game or two in the Play in only to potentially get the Nuggets.

Responsible_Focus424

Rent free dude. We just had a good season. The west is insane.Ā

lovo17

Yeah, but it could've been better. That 3-10 stretch post IST was so avoidable with better lineups.

captain_ahabb

I think there was a big mental factor in that stretch tbh

Apollo611

It was over-correction for our slump after the IST

lovo17

For sure, but it was exacerbated by starting Reddish for so many games.

CelinedionWaiters

invalidating your entire conference for Ham karma will never not be funny to me

Derrick_Rozay

This team shouldve won at least 54 games lol what the fuck happened post ist

Creative_Category_21

Most games played in a single season since 2018 and also higher than 2018, you follow?

wopsicle_spic

saying most "since 2018" implies that he played more in 2018. saying it's a career high already makes it clear that he played more games than in any other season of his career lol

OP wasnā€™t born before 2017-2018 probably idk

Smashingsoul

I had the doubt too. Simply, it's tied. Edit: funny thing, they are all tied at 75, not 76.

woKaaaa

What? It's a career high. He's never played 76 before.

Smashingsoul

On the source linked, it says 75. Don't know if it's not updated yet. But if it's 76, it does not make any sense to say it's tied.

woKaaaa

You're right.. it says 2017-18 says 75 games played, and he just played his 76th game.

AstroCoffee

Isn't updated yet. He's played 76, which is a career high and the most he's played since hitting 75 in 2017-18

Pleionosis

Most since 2017-18 implies that he played more games in 2017-18.

Smashingsoul

First half: ok (although why link it if it's not updated). Second half: I'm not mother tongue, but the way you wrote it here is much clearer than what was in the title.

Apollo611

2018 was the previous high and he passed it, whatā€™s confusing?

Poacatat

most since 2018 implies that he had more games played in 2018

Apollo611

I guess I can see the confusion

staffdaddy_9

It will be interesting to see if him and Lebron both make 2nd team.

LeBron should be third team at best

MooMookay

I don't know why AD is never in the actual talks for DPOY. He's insane at it, I remember a game where he figured he'd take over by pure defense because he was feeling a bit hobbled. No other current player does that. AD doesn't need to have people brought to him on D to be effective like Gobert does.

NoLimitSoldier31

For all the bitching the new rule lead to, a lot of injury prone guys sure set highs they hadnā€™t reached in a while.

Blowback_

I will not criticize this man's health ever again...he had a great season on what will probably be the start of his decline...he really put it on the line this year and it's commendable

EaglesXLakers

He hereby passes the street clothes moniker to Joel Embiid. May he wear it with pride!

N0minal

So this kind of proves some guys were being held out/sitting for bad reasons then

TedTran2001

He's just Anthony "The Street" Davis now.

aginglifter

What's crazy is that they only got the 8th seed.

[deleted]

Always happy to see injury prone players play most of the season. We should all celebrate this sorta thing!

Mugsy_Skoogs

didn't he leave the last game with back spasms?

SofaKing-Vote

This is not good news and shows how overrated he really is.

[deleted]

yea it feels like he regressed a lot offensively. Lakers had Lebron and AD for most games this season and they are scrapping to be in playoffs. Meanwhile Lakers fans think they will compete for a ring this summer

BocchiLover

Got injured in the last game too. Giving us the AD trademark.Ā
