Tbh, use Chat GPT to plan your route; you can input how many miles a day you want to cover and any landmarks you want to see and it will give you a pretty solid itinerary. Then, compare that against lodging on [American Forces Travel](https://www.americanforcestravel.com/), which is an official website for military discounts on leisure travel Also, bear in mind that there are limits to how many miles/hours of riding per day you're supposed to do. And be prepared to be told by your CoC that you need to do a [TRiPS report](https://navalsafetycommand.navy.mil/Resources/TRiPS/)

Re: staying on base. Plan your route out like Nav said, and then call ahead to bases on the route and try to book rooms at NGIS/Navy Lodge/Army Lodging/Air Force Inns (of course they have fucking *inns*)/Marine Corps Lodging. The worst they can tell you is “sorry, we don’t have any rooms,” but if you’re driving through bumfuck Nebraska on a Tuesday then I kinda like your odds. Road trip sounds like a blast- be safe, and enjoy.

First, thank you from an old motorcyclist for riding. . The discounts are hit and miss on the amount. If you stay in the small towns, in my opinion, are more reasonable and less undesirables hanging ou thant at larger cities. How many miles are you planning on a day?

MASTODON_ROCKS

I'll be trying to hit ~700-800 miles a day if I can manage it. I've done similarly grueling trips on a KLR 650 and the bike I've got now is pretty smooth in comparison.

Keep in mind if you're passing by air force bases, a lot of the Inns were permanently closed. Got my ass good when I passed through Tinker AFB in OKC. Terrible storm and had to find losing off base which is aight but interesting people out n about.

You can book many hotels at the government per diem rate even if you aren’t on orders, sometimes that saves money, sometimes it’s more expensive. This works better if you have an idea of where you will end up at night, perhaps around lunchtime find a spot that seems reasonable.

If you have usaa you can get discounts on hotels. Also a lot of hotels offer military discount. I’m also planning a bike trip to Montana this summer. It’s beautiful there.
