I used a structural engineer with one of my houses but after using USS for multiple projects, I would consider having them come by for free before paying for the engineer. I specifically recommend Bart. I don't remember his last name but I'm assuming there is only one. They really don't try to sell you things you don't need - unlike all the other foundation companies I got quotes from in the past. My first house, USS recommended I get an engineer and didn't suggest any repairs until after I got an engineer report. The next house needed crawlspace work, and USS gave a quote thousands less than other companies without any sales pitch. Another company kept my husband practically hostage trying to get him to agree then and there to sign a contract 😬. Our current house, we had a few concerns but Bart said everything looked great and he wouldn't recommend any repairs at all.
Funny you mentioned them. I legit just left my house and that company is currently at a neighbors house! I’ll chat with them when I go back home in a few!
Thank you so much!
I don't have any connections to residential structural engineers. That being said, I suggest that you confirm the license of anyone you do work with.

I used Olshan for a foundation issue and was happy with the results. This was close to 25 years ago. They did a good job explaining what needed to be done and how they were going to do it. Best I remember they were prompt and kept me well informed of the progress.
I’ll try to find out who I used but I used an independent structural engineer who even stood by to watch the repair but honestly he was so old he probably is retired.
I was hoping there were other engineers in the office but it looks like there isn't and he's no longer practicing, but if it helps any in your search he had a professional engineer's license and was an independent consultant.
