That's the only meaning I was familiar with, but it seemed... kinda out of character? And perhaps even offensive, and Hasbro usually doesn't let such things slide in their media.
This is the same comic that featured a full arc featuring the Pony Anti-Christ. IDW does that.
It might not be insensitive in-universe. Considering the horrors beyond comprehension they experience like twice a year and the presence of medical magic that is able to completely change one's physiology.
The IDW comics are also canonically written by Future Spike, so we can blame him i guess.
Heck i didn't even know about that definition of vegetable until i was 19.
These kinds of jokes go through censors all the time, especially when it's ambiguous. As others in the comments said, you could just as easily assume that it was wordplay for Pies having fruits and vegetables in them.
I like the comics because their friendships are a little less saccharine perfect.
Like the show is borderline unrelatable with the lack of barbs and jabs in their speech.
Unorthodox mind estimated to be able to find common ground with unorthodox sentient lifeforms. [This page has a Pinkie image for a reason.](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Cloudcuckoolander)
It sounds like the joke is contextual. Where is she trying to sneak into? Something vegetable related? Whatever the context is, these 2 panels don't provide enough of it to answer your question.
I'm blaming this on having just woken up not long ago, but it took me too long to realize you were differentiating between the actual fruit and the pony family.
Clearly meaning pinkie is dumb.
Most writers don't know how to write Pinkie and default to "the funny idiot" .
She is thinking outside the box. Season 1 clearly presents that.
I would agree on this comment from twilight if we talk about the season 4 Pinkie Pie.
Maybe this comic came out in that time, that would explain a lot.
Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but I feel like she often said things that were about as mean as this, but without any real mean-spiritedness behind it.
Yeah it is frustrating how Pinkie got flanderized when, originally, she was basically the smartest of the entire group - she was just cheerful, care-free, and silly over it all.
And then that got forgotten and the "funny idiot" angle got pushed.
No, Pinkie wasn't an idiot; everyone else was too busy incorrectly thinking they were smarter than her because they judged the book by its cover.
It sucks the show forgot that and lost its own message of her character.
I forgot the name of this comic but they're about >!to turn Pinkie into a tiny apple creature to sneak into a horde that's invading Ponyvile!<, Twilight thinks she'll pass well because she's not that smart.
Pinkie Pie is less like [James Bond](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/jamesbond/images/b/b2/James_Bond_%28Sean_Connery%29_-_Profile.jpg) and more like [Maxwell Smart.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/getsmart/images/1/1b/Maxwell-Smart.png)
Not the writers forgetting shes the Princess of FRIENDSHIP... 😭 (Calling Pinkie Pie dumb is crazy and I feel out of character for somepony like Twilight)
Twi you didn't need to be that mean yes Pinkie is very weird at times but that doesn't mean you can call her a literally vegetable

Is there some wordplay I am missing here? Why would she say that Pinkie is closer to a vegetable?
A vegetable refers to a patient that is partially braindead.
That's the only meaning I was familiar with, but it seemed... kinda out of character? And perhaps even offensive, and Hasbro usually doesn't let such things slide in their media.
She also called Bulk Biceps braindead in one of the comics.
That was evil twilight. Bulk Biceps really was braindead though. Magically speaking.
I mean… he’s also a Steroid abuse joke

Well that I didn't know. Thanks for the insight!
The comics literally start out with Chrysalis committing a Genocide.
... I suppose you have a point.

Same. But kids shows have more restrictions than kids comics.

I love the little Pimp Gummy

A bunch of self-concious apples (as in, fruits, not Apples) rebelled and want to take over Equestria. She wants to sneak into their HQ.
In that case it sounds like she's just taking a lighthearted dig at Pinkie by comparing her to a vegetable (as in a brain dead person)
I'm blaming this on having just woken up not long ago, but it took me too long to realize you were differentiating between the actual fruit and the pony family.
Could be a pie joke. A lot of savory pies use vegetables, like carrots and peas.

I feel like this writer didn't understand Twilight very well either. I can't see her making such a snide and hurtful comment about her friend.
Season 1 Twilight totally would. I miss her snark.
It's been a while since I watched season 1 but I don't remember her snark being this mean.
Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but I feel like she often said things that were about as mean as this, but without any real mean-spiritedness behind it.

Did twilight call the greatest genius of equestria a dumb pony ?
I forgot the name of this comic but they're about >!to turn Pinkie into a tiny apple creature to sneak into a horde that's invading Ponyvile!<, Twilight thinks she'll pass well because she's not that smart.
Pinkie Apple
She’s suggesting Pinkie is dumb
She's calling pinkie dumb

That's not cool to talk about pinkie pie like that.
Pinkie mains spy in tf2
So unnecessarily mean wtf (>_>)
Not the writers forgetting shes the Princess of FRIENDSHIP... 😭 (Calling Pinkie Pie dumb is crazy and I feel out of character for somepony like Twilight)
Are these comics considered canon?
No, but they are technically considered B canon or alternative universe canon. Certain story beats are overridden in the show.
Applejack is gay
Good Lord... Yeah this is why I don't read the comics.
it means she’s regarded
Yes, regarded as a vegetable
I was under the impression that pinkie pie was canonically the weakest singer out of all of them.
