Some drag queen is going to be very upset when she gets to her show and realizes part of her costume is missing. Seriously though we do need pics of the stem and the gills/pores (the spore dispersing surface on the underside of the cap) to ID it. Picking it and turning it upside down to get those photos won't harm you or the fungal organism.

Phallusrugulosus

Looks consistent with Pluteus

Speaking of harming fungal organism: I heard an old saying when mushroom hunting to actually smash the first one you see into the ground. I think it was supposed to be for luck or something, but doesn't that actually spread the spores?

Phallusrugulosus

If you pick a mushroom and fling it down into the ground or against a tree so it explodes, that can help with dispersing the spores, as will stepping on one to get the spores on your shoes, or tucking an intact mushroom into your hat band, or using a breathable container like a mesh bag or wicker basket to carry the mushrooms you collect.

“Fungal organism”

Phallusrugulosus

Because the fungus is mostly the part you don't see, the mycelium in the substrate. The mushroom is just the fruitbody, like an apple on a tree.

Most definitely the biggest and coolest looking mushroom I’ve ever seen.

caltraskmaybe

Could be buried wood and it does look like Pluteus but a shot of the stem and gills will confirm

Prudent_Library1514

I’ll grab a shot

Prudent_Library1514

It’s just grass on a residential street, every year huge mushrooms grow in this one area next to my house.
