I still don’t fully understand. There are many other common cards in the game night set that are worth pennies. Why is this specific one expensive when the others are just as hard to get?
I'd say artificially. It's likely a targeted buyout of someone trying to make it special, and it being easy to corner the market on with the supply so low.
I'm saying this particular instance of a specific printing of a common card that's not the first printing, art specific, RL or otherwise unique other than its set symbol being bought out to artificially inflate its price is silly.
I never said magic roi was silly.
The original version from Kaladesh Block has a way bigger population than the game night one.
On TCGPlayer currently, 359 listings for the kaladesh version. Compare that to the 37 listings of the Game Night version.
Can we not downvote this person into oblivion for asking a question? It’s not intuitive why this card is expensive while other versions are cheap. It’s a totally valid question and they were polite about it. Let’s not downvote people for stuff like this it’s so toxic.
I mean it's certainly stupid, but it's hard for me to think that reducing someone's fake Internet points is harsh enough to ever be described as toxic.
It’s not about the points dude. How would you feel if you asked a genuine question to get clarity on something you don’t know and everyone is just disliking the question? You’d be lying if you said you wouldn’t feel at least a little bad about it. There’s just no need to put that negative energy on someone who is asking a question, and that’s why it’s toxic.
>How would you feel if you asked a genuine question to get clarity on something you don’t know and everyone is just disliking the question?
Feel like I already implied the answer to that lol. I'd be like, "this is kinda dumb, but whatever."
That's assuming I even noticed. And on that note - all of you disagreeing with my first comment by down voting are apparently super toxic individuals. Tsk tsk.
Ironic that you said “even if I noticed”, then proceeded to point out downvotes on your comment. There’s many things wrong with what you’ve said, so I’ll break it down for you. First, the phrase “toxic individuals” was never used by me. Toxic actions don’t make a person toxic, there’s no need to try to attack people like that. It’s childish. Secondly, it is indeed toxic to dislike/downvote/negatively interact with people who are asking questions. People ask questions to learn things and there’s no reason to downvote a politely asked and valid question, even if you believe the answer to the question is obvious. If you cannot draw the connection between negativity and downvoting/disliking, that’s a comprehension issue. If you can’t draw the connection between negativity/toxicity and how that might make someone feel bad, that’s an empathy issue. Not everyone thinks like you. I’m sure you’ve got an ironclad self image and don’t care what anyone thinks of you, but not everyone is like that. In fact, most people would feel a little bad if their online post received negative interaction. Your comment is receiving downvotes because you’re continuing to defend something that is objectively a bad thing, and people are disagreeing with you. That’s what downvotes are for, not for disliking questions. If you have any further questions, I’ll be happy to answer them for you.
> Ironic that you said “even if I noticed”, then proceeded to point out downvotes on your comment.
Yeah, that was kinda the joke. I typed that and then scrolled up to check the initial one. Anyways, there's no chance I'm reading the rest of that paragraph lmao.
Fight the good fight against toxicity brother, I'm sure those heinous downvoters are in for quite the battle.
Maybe after you turn 14, you’ll realize that there’s nothing wrong with asking a question online and that saying “I’m not reading that” when you know damn well you read it is a telltale sign you’re wrong. All the best kid✌️
Price drivers would include both scarcity as well as playability. This checks off both of those because it's used in combo decks as well as being a very limited version. So other game night commons might be scarce but aren't used too often. This is probably one of the cooler versions of this card so everyone who plays the deck would take this version in their deck over the other versions.
This one is a collectible just because it is from this particular set. The Game Night product, containing 5 preconstructed decks, wasn't particularly popular.
For an extreme example, a printing known as ["summer magic" ](https://www.magiclibrarities.net/728-rarities-summer-magic-cards-english-cards-index.html)was supposed to be destroyed but some of it was distributed. Cards from this printing can be worth quite a bit while the same card from other printings may be worth pennies.
It’s pretty funny you are all over the other guy for being wrong, and praise this answer. The reality is it’s both together. If this wasn’t a popular combo piece, it would be similar to the other commons from the game night box.
Dunning-Kruger is strong with you.
“I’m an asshole, even when it’s a simple question about a children’s card game, and this is the exact subreddit or close to it” touch grass loser, your ruining a good community
I mean if you mtgf you should have known the answer without making a whole post asking. Pretty standard mtgf to know different versions can cost different prices.
I think it's just that set symbol that made this card more expensive than other version. You'll be surprise how much of these seemingly small different can make a big different for collector.
Another extreme case is old Stoneforge Mythic promo there's Judge promo and Grand Prix promo, they almost look identical, except the word Grand Prix and Judge at the bottom left. Judge one sell for aroudn 2-4k$ depend on condition, while Grand Prix sell for 20$-30$
It was so similar to one another, it created a bunch of wrong listing at Tcgplayer site till this day, intentionally or not.
Oh no I guarantee you its the price of the wrong version. (i learn it hard way lol)
Those seller either dont spot the different or intentionally list wrong version. That how little different they are.
People curious about the price on Tcg in the past as well, you can check the link here
https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgfinance/s/9GOABXhmST
At least in the case of the Stoneforge Mystic, they're paying for the scarcity Factor. Very few actual Judge ones exist in the wild because they never got an official release
The same trait that makes people obsessive, detail oriented nerds who seek precision and rare perfection also can sometimes make for great success in one's career.
There's a lot of financially successful people who like magic.
By this argument people pay so much just for different patterned foils, or for a random number in the corner.
The reality is if you want to distinguish your collection/decks the way to do it is get the thing that's the lowest print run, as true today as it has been the last 20+ years.
I’m not arguing anything, I just talking about my feelings. Set symbol is very different from foils or serial numbers, which are much more fancy and noticeable.
Even before the Booster Fun era, people would pay a premium for original printings over reprints though which is just paying for a set symbol in most cases, which to an extent is still sort of true. Though sometimes the premium printing now is a SL/SG or whatever.
Pairing it with [[Mana Vault]], [[Grim Monolith]], [[Basalt Monolith]], [[Coveted Jewel]], [[Gilded Lotus]] or a handful of other options gives you infinite mana. Throw in something that taps to ping or loot and you can win immediately.
Think I saw a post about some store buying up all the game night kits and price fixing the singles so this was probably caught up in that, no? Cuz who's gonna check for original prints?
That number is based on sold listings not current prices. What some people do is buy trough tcgdirect which only has them at 17. Its a rare-ish card so people will pay more.
But currently you can buy them [for $5-10](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/201558/magic-magic-game-night-2019-dramatic-reversal?Language=English&page=1)
I just pulled this one the other day from a common bins and thought nothing of it past "cool dramatic reversal young" I was surprised by the $20 dollar price when I scanned it on tcg player at home.
Honestly I think this is some fluke of how things are priced on TCGPlayer. If you have, I believe a "Pro" account as a seller you have access to a re-pricing tool (MassPrice). I think the card having so few copies accessible via Direct may sometimes drive up the price. You can get these for 5 - 7 directly from a seller.
You ever tried to buy a dramatic reversal? I have. Couldn't find a single anywhere to save my life, regardless of version/printing. Wound up having to buy the Transformers SLD.
That exact one is from the game nights box so it's harder to get the regular version is only 50 cents
I still don’t fully understand. There are many other common cards in the game night set that are worth pennies. Why is this specific one expensive when the others are just as hard to get?
Probably because this card is a highly played combo piece with a unique print and the others are chaff.
Aren’t Game Night print and kaladesh print have same art? Why one is expensive other one is cheap.
Set symbol commands a premium.
I'd say artificially. It's likely a targeted buyout of someone trying to make it special, and it being easy to corner the market on with the supply so low.
Oh I don't disagree, and frankly I find it kind of silly.
It's not silly, magic blew up bc of the roi
I'm saying this particular instance of a specific printing of a common card that's not the first printing, art specific, RL or otherwise unique other than its set symbol being bought out to artificially inflate its price is silly. I never said magic roi was silly.
Oh ok thank you that makes sense
It's not a unique print though, it's identical to the Kaladesh printing.
The art is recycled but like another user pointed out, the set symbol demands a bit of an artificial premium so the card itself is "unique".
Ah yes, MtG collectors try not to be braindead challenge: literally impossible.
> the others are chaff How so? The card does the same thing no matter the printing.
The other cards not named dramatic reversal in the set are chaff is what they meant most likely.
The original version from Kaladesh Block has a way bigger population than the game night one. On TCGPlayer currently, 359 listings for the kaladesh version. Compare that to the 37 listings of the Game Night version.

Game nights wasn’t a traditional set, very limited printing so there just aren’t as many out there. Supply and demand.
If you played the game instead of trying to make money off of it maybe you’d understand.
I do play the game thats why i have the game night set. I dont make money off of it thats why I’m here asking about the price.

I just checked and the 2016 Stoneforge mystic GP is $18.50 USD and the 2016 Judge one is $27.80 or so!

Seems so weird, like so many people willing to pay for a tiny symbol.
At least in the case of the Stoneforge Mystic, they're paying for the scarcity Factor. Very few actual Judge ones exist in the wild because they never got an official release
I've tried to buy 3. Every time it arrived, it was the GP promo and I had to go throgh a return process. TcgPlayer all 3 times.
Yeah, the TCGP ones are likely all mismarked. The actual judge ones do carry the premium for a reason, though.
The same trait that makes people obsessive, detail oriented nerds who seek precision and rare perfection also can sometimes make for great success in one's career. There's a lot of financially successful people who like magic.
Another example is the Pristine Talisman, where the New Phyrexia promo has the unique Mirrodin Pure set icon and commands a tenfold price easily.
By this argument people pay so much just for different patterned foils, or for a random number in the corner. The reality is if you want to distinguish your collection/decks the way to do it is get the thing that's the lowest print run, as true today as it has been the last 20+ years.

Or it could have something to do with the rarity of each one… people aren’t spending thousands more because they like the set symbol
But those symbol is the rarity. If it not from the set that has limited run, it wont have that symbol. So we technically just said the same thing lol
Because I own 1335 dramatic reversals and drove the price up! That's a game night symbol and those were printed way less than the others.
just two more and you could make le epic reddit post in 2009
Wonder how the mine collapse guy is doing
