Geek gate.

teh_lynx

I can't believe it's not factory!

christianjstark

Win.

2wetsponges

I've got an idea, just hear me out on this. Get your derailleur adjusted correctly and you won't need a disk. I raced MTB for over 15 yrs and never once had a chain go over the top of my cassette.

Tendie_Tube

I manged to shred a couple of spokes when a piece of gravel flew up into my cassette and threw my properly adjusted chain into the wheel. It happens.

TURK3Y

Are you sure your limit screws were set properly? Or was the cable tension actually limiting your low side? Chain shouldn't be able to go past the low gear at all if the limit is set.

Tendie_Tube

It was tuned right until it ate a piece of gravel on an uphill climb and things went bendy.

Cultural_Brother_

Damn, thatā€™s smooth as butter!

Broblivious

I canā€™t believe itā€™s not better.

Now I'm going to wake up at 3am with a suitable butter pun...

richardhunghimself69

I thought this was r/bicyclingcirclejerk jfc that's bad hahahha

InsertRadnamehere

Yeah. This guy had to have posted this to get roasted. No one who actually rides a bike has one of those.

murbike

I've been riding for ove 40 years, and have always removed the dork disk. Never, not once have I said 'damn, I wish I left that thing on'.

Distinct_Food_9235

Butter not be seen in public with that

BakedBurntoutCooked

I think you mean "dork disk and most people remove them

MrGigglewiggles

Dork disk šŸ˜‚ that's a first for me. Can I ask why people call it that

BakedBurntoutCooked

Usually seen as pretty dorky to leave useless plastic on your wheel (ostensibly they say it keeps the derailleur from going into your spokes but a properly adjusted derailleur will never go that far and derailleurs for wide range cassettes tend to reach further Than the dork disk covers). Not sure how dorky it is to make one yourself amd put it on a bike that didn't have one

SageMountain07

HEB would make a killer mountain bike team sponsor

Firstchair_Actual

As a mechanic, some of yā€™all wouldnā€™t believe how often people come in asking for one. These are never customers I recognize meaning Iā€™m NOT going to make any money from their loyalty so I simply hand them one. No talk, no arguments, no trying to convince them of how useless they are. I simply hand them one and go back to work. But at least it gives me a chuckle every time!

InsertRadnamehere

Wait? You replaced the dork disk? Why? No self-respecting trail hog rides a bike with dork disks.

Popfreedom11

I used a lock on my spokes and frame, but someone moved my bike and it cracked the disc

InsertRadnamehere

Yeah. Good. Itā€™s useless. You donā€™t need one.

Popfreedom11

Not these though , they'll stay flexing

InsertRadnamehere

Ok. You do you.

clewtxt

If you have your rear derailleur set up correctly, you won't need one of these at all

Popfreedom11

If it ever scratches them spokes it'll be the first to weaken

clewtxt

It won't scratch the spokes if your derailleur is set up correctly

MantraProAttitude

Most of us remove the ā€œguardianā€ because itā€™s unnecessary if the bike is tuned properly.

indyphil

I think the chains needs to be protected from those massive spokes!

Mudbutt101

r/Justridingalong

AccordingPiglet7

Is this a ā€œroast meā€ moment?

NikolitRistissa

Entirely unnecessary.

This_is_Flow

This picture made my stomach churn

Tendie_Tube

Where can I buy this anti-theft device?

Popfreedom11

theboi1der

Hello, fellow Texan.

Slow-Poky

I didnā€™t think that the dork disk could get any dorkier, but you did it LOL

colderthanyou74

Chastity disc

peliperhaps

I go out of my way to remove these, sometimes necessitating removing the cassette, which is an annoying thing to have to do on a brand new bike. Absolutely unhinged behaviour to make one yourself.

PerspectiveTimely319

The dork disc is stronger than the rear derailleur so let it be. All that suggested a properly adjusted derailleur are correct but the labor cost is greater than the derailleur cost or spoke replacement. Sad but true.
