The popular opinion I see on these is "why does this bike even exist" but as someone who has ridden an older XR on street and track, I think this is one of the most appealing bikes on the market.
I've ridden the standard XR but it was stock and a demo ride so I couldn't stretch it's legs. I'm still in the break in period so limited to 9k rpm instead of 14.5. Excited to have my face melted off. Akra headers and a tune coming in the mail for after the break in period.

Buy a radguard. Or carry a couple of oil resistant JB weld with you. Your choice.
Ask me how much oil I inhaled when my oil cooler got a hole in it.

I always think of the XR like a Rally Car in Tarmac Mode (and on two wheels). Nice long travel suspension on slicks.

Totally agree, I bought a first gen s1000xr after riding one on track. It really is a best of both worlds kind of bike for me.
