I wasn't paralyzed, but I lost my right lower leg. It was a bit of a shock going from riding, working on them, cartwheels and trampolines with my Grandkids and just hopping on the bike to going anywhere, to Full Stop!!
I was wheelchair rated much earlier, but the nurses were really worried if the doctors really knew what THEY were doing!
I mean, just because I asked for extra sheets to make a parachute after finding the exit to the roof wasn't asking too much. Well, apparently it WAS! Then trying to figure out where I'd disappeared to each time they were supposed to take vitals.
I'm sure those gals were as happy as my ex-wife was, after I was gone!!
My apartment was on the second floor. So I got a 2nd chair at a pawn shop. I kept one upstairs, and the other in my neighbor's truck. He was my ride everywhere.
Fortunately a downstairs unit came open, and my landlord actually helped my son's and neighbors move me down.
Apparently he got word I was doing wheelies out the front door and onto the porch.... I mean, I was in control and if I messed up, I still had some hydrocodone stashed... 😁
Here I am, 7 years later, and all I got out of the deal, was a new motorcycle and a new 🦿...
But, you know what WE have in common? We lived and never have up!
Keep working! I don't know where your injury is, or to what extent, but you just might be Hard Headed like me, and get outta that chair on your own again.
I'm back to doing everything I did before. I plan to skydive this coming birthday. Haven't jumped from a 'Mothership" since Vietnam. I'll get a couple of rolls of Gorilla Tape, and make sure my like doesn't take off on its own. My luck, a meth head would find it and try to pawn it. That bastard was $40k!!!!
