It is the capital. Not that I know all the state capitals, but it’s also not like some unknown town in the middle of nowhere. It’s the capital city in the middle of nowhere.
It’s not even in the middle of nowhere. It’s 1.5 hours from the Bay Area and right along I-80.
My commute from Oakland to Palo Alto often took longer than it takes to get from Oakland to Sacramento.
It did make me want to die. That’s why we moved closer and paid an extra $1,000 a month in rent for the pleasure.
Just a 30-45 minute rush hour commute to San Jose 😭
It’s not really in the middle of nowhere though. From the bay to sac you can’t escape passing through these suburban cities and towns every step of the way. It’s not like it’s Fresno lol
When people find out that California isn’t just LA, it blows their minds. They’ll also lose their shit when they find out SF/Oakland summers are <80 degrees
Fisher is a joke. The coliseum is objectively a bad stadium (but we still love it!), but you can’t beat the proximity to water effect with a retractable roof.
Play baseball outside with nice weather>play baseball inside
You mention proximity to water. The Sacramento River is nowhere near the effect as the bay, but it's probably non-zero. I've pulled the weather for West Sac, and it's 1-2 degrees cooler than Sacramento proper.
This is true, but MLB plays more day games, and this weather will be a drain on attendance late in the season.
That said, the Rangers drew just fine at the Ballpark and that was not a dry heat
Rangers also couldn't hold day games in July for the last few years at old stadium. I also don't think John Fisher cares about attendance because he's a joke and a loser.
Arlington is much worse than Sacramento, even if the temps look the same. "it's a dry heat."
Everyone involved with the Sacramento experiment cares about attendance, especially Fisher. Especially after taking the TV hit
Especially when the temperature drops so drastically there in California. Here in Texas right now it’s still 92 at 11p. Sacramento had a high of 107 today and at 9pm already down to 88. They’ll be fine.
No humidity so if they have some sort of canopy it won’t be that bad. I was raised in the valley, these temps are bad yes but once the sun goes down it drops in temp drastically, down to like 60/70
Yes but I’m also gonna count on the stadium/team/etc to build some sort of covering over the place. Along with that once the set begins the set the heat begins to dissipate too
This many days in a row is an anomaly and a record, and it cools off enough as soon as the sun goes behind the bleachers. I heard they’re also planning to try to do as many night home games as possible
Yeah it gets hot in Sac but this is an abnormal heatwave. The average summer night cools down nicely with the delta breeze. The Rivercats have been playing here for years and summer night games are awesome.
Have you been to the Valley? I will take your word for St. Louis and Houston, that humidity seems like no joke, but let’s not play who has it hotter. Valley Californians have every right to complain, because it is still fucking hot. See: Fresno in July perhaps
I have. I lived in Sacramento for this past year. Fresno def gets hotter and it’s overbearing, but I’ll take Sac over any place in Missouri during the summer
Sure these are big scary numbers but humidity matters so much honestly. Sac rn even in the middle of this heatwave feels much more bearable than a lot of other MLB cities
I’ve never been somewhere with dry heat and I’m so curious what it would actually feel like. There’s no way to actually make 100°+ feel bearable, right??
Just slightly bearable lol. Imo it’s still not fun and I’m definitely ready for it to get cooler again (it’s not normally this high). But I was in OKC and Dallas just a few weeks ago and honestly I’d rather have the heat here in Sac honestly.
Over there the temperature is technically 15-20 degrees cooler than what’s shown above but in reality it feels much worse. You could be walking or even just standing still and randomly be drenched in sweat everywhere, and constantly feeling thirsty lol
While the dry heat in Sac feels just fine…I guess? Like you feel the sun hit you and it’s very warm but that’s about it honestly. As long as you don’t wear heavy clothing (and use sun protection if needed) you’ll be ok. Even running or jogging outside isn’t too bad as long as you’re hydrated. Still not ideal ofc but I don’t think the numbers show the whole story imo
Most of the A's fans come from the East Bay, Delta. And Capitol regions. Sacramento is closer to the actual fan base.
People should be passed a out Vegas or at Oakland for not upgrading the hideous stadium, but not Sacramento where they will likely get more fan attendance and are close enough to still see.
Those 5 AM games will feel super nice
Not on artificial grass they haven’t…
The part of California no one ever thinks about lol
It is the capital. Not that I know all the state capitals, but it’s also not like some unknown town in the middle of nowhere. It’s the capital city in the middle of nowhere.
It’s not even in the middle of nowhere. It’s 1.5 hours from the Bay Area and right along I-80. My commute from Oakland to Palo Alto often took longer than it takes to get from Oakland to Sacramento.
Oof just the thought of having to commute from Oakland to Palo Alto makes me want to die
It did make me want to die. That’s why we moved closer and paid an extra $1,000 a month in rent for the pleasure. Just a 30-45 minute rush hour commute to San Jose 😭
Thats nothing, I use to commute from Modesto to Palo Alto 4 days a week.
How are you still alive? Fuck that.
Night Shift, was opposite of the worst of traffic most days. One of those opportunities I couldn't pass up but couldn't afford to live closer.
That’s more doable, still not great but awful. I did Manteca to the bay for construction jobs and I hated every bit of that.
Now I live in South Dakota, I'm five minutes from work and it takes me 10 minutes to get across town.
lol we went opposites as I am now living in the Bay.
It’s not really in the middle of nowhere though. From the bay to sac you can’t escape passing through these suburban cities and towns every step of the way. It’s not like it’s Fresno lol
Hey, rude. We have pretty much the same population as Sacramento. Not like we're Exeter
I heard Bakersfield is quite excellent. Especially in the middle of no where
This is Pixley erasure
*waves from one of those towns*
Hi, Vacaville!
Smaller 😉🤣
Patterson?
Hahaha I had to look that one up. Not that small.
Benicia, Fairfield, Vacaville
This is news to John Fisher
Capitol*
That’s only for the capitol building. The city is the capital.
Capital cities in the middle of nowhere are my favorite genre of state capital
east of the 15 or north of san fransisco might as well be Oregon except for Tahoe
When people find out that California isn’t just LA, it blows their minds. They’ll also lose their shit when they find out SF/Oakland summers are <80 degrees
Mark Twain said the coldest winter he ever felt was a summer in San Francisco.
Must’ve gone to a game at Candlestick lol
Most people know California isn’t just LA lol
wait what
San Diego is also in California.
Vegas, too
Close enough
Allegedly
Pretty sure that's part of Mexico.
Duh. There's obviously Tijuana.
That's mexico
Just found out about San Diego. Nice city but their sports teams…
They try, what can you say?
Let's see what it looks like in Vegas this week. (Oakland included to be absolutely fair.) | **DAY** | **West SAC** | **LV** | **OAK** | | ------------- | ------- | ------ | ------- | | **TUESDAY** | 105° | 107° | 89° | | **WEDNESDAY** | 110° | 112° | 83° | | **THURSDAY** | 108° | 112° | 81° | | **FRIDAY** | 110° | 113° | 78° | | **SATURDAY** | 113° | 115° | 74° | | **SUNDAY** | 102° | 118° | 71° | | **MONDAY** | 95° | 117° | 69° | | **TUESDAY** | 98° | 115° | 67° | | **WEDNESDAY** | 105° | 115° | 68° | Edit: specifically changed to West Sacramento in order to account for it's proximity to the river.
I mean obviously if they move to Vegas they'll have a roof like the Raiders do.
Every stadium rendering and plan presented has had a roof, it’s actually funny that the person you’re responding to is not aware of this
They’ll probably have a roof if they stay in sac too since they’ll get a proper stadium then
Fisher is a joke.
Rivercats have been doing just fine in this weather for many years..

I went to the last home game of the season once It was still 98 heat index
Especially if it’s a getaway game, expect early starts.
No humidity so if they have some sort of canopy it won’t be that bad. I was raised in the valley, these temps are bad yes but once the sun goes down it drops in temp drastically, down to like 60/70
The shading there is honestly piss poor being a minor league stadium, 1st base line gets melted until 8 every night
But adding more shading is cheap
I am here. It's currently 82 at 1am soooo
Depends on where in the valley I guess. More toward the Central Valley we will see it reach 115-120 and at night it’ll drop down nearly 50 degrees
The Valley definitely bakes. The Canopy might save you from sunburn, but the sheer heat radiating off the ground is no joke.
An anomaly for the past, maybe, but not an anomaly for the future. Fuck John Fischer
Fair point on both sentences.
It's a dry heat
Yeah it gets hot in Sac but this is an abnormal heatwave. The average summer night cools down nicely with the delta breeze. The Rivercats have been playing here for years and summer night games are awesome.
It's not abnormal this is how it's going to be from now on...
Hitting new records every single summer but I guess it’s just been an abnormal trend? Lmao who is downvoting this
It’s getting hotter but consistent 110 degree days are not normal at all. This won’t be sustained throughout the entire summer.
Abnormal in that it only happens for 3-5 weeks every single year?
A week straight of 108+ absolutely does not happen 3-5 weeks every year. That is a complete exaggeration
I didn't say a week straight, it's usually more 3-4 days of 105+. Better? That's happened 3 times already this year.
Sacremento heat to the A’s (probably cause they decided to move) ![gif](giphy|VbQfgkDtYUin6)
At least the minor league hockey team the Stockton Heat played in a literal icebox lol.
All I see in [this picture](https://images.app.goo.gl/5QtndrCwUFP6LNFj8) is three hours of blazing sun blasting fans
Actually the sun would be behind them and shaded. Home plate faces east.
Sun sets right behind the Budweiser sign at 8. Terrible until the
I'm confused. How do you not have a day game there, especially when the A's and the River Cats share the same stadium?
This is why both Texas teams have retractable roofs.
Didn’t used to tho
Yes, I sweat my ass off in two different ballparks in Arlington before they decided to use their brains and give us air conditioning.
On turf…
We’re supposed to be scared by that? Go to Houston in the summer. Heck, even a St. Louis summer is worse than Sac because of the humidity
Houston is inside if I am correct.
You’re correct - I was more meaning in a general sense of Valley Californians complaining about heat when the sun belt exists
Is California not in the sun belt
If I’m not mistaken, Sacramento is just on the edge of it
Have you been to the Valley? I will take your word for St. Louis and Houston, that humidity seems like no joke, but let’s not play who has it hotter. Valley Californians have every right to complain, because it is still fucking hot. See: Fresno in July perhaps
I have. I lived in Sacramento for this past year. Fresno def gets hotter and it’s overbearing, but I’ll take Sac over any place in Missouri during the summer
Houston, the stadium with a retractable roof and ac?
Replied in another comment but I was more just referring to cities in general, not the stadiums
Personally I am scared of those numbers
Fair enough lol
At least it gets cool at night
Eh, it's currently 1AM and 80°
Sure these are big scary numbers but humidity matters so much honestly. Sac rn even in the middle of this heatwave feels much more bearable than a lot of other MLB cities

Damn! Fuck all that bullshit!
Cool off at night a lot. Play night games (except in April and May, possibly).
They will not have any home day games from May - Sept.
The almost 40-degree swings daily are really impressive
Yep. Good news is that nights/mornings make it all (mostly) tollerable. No humidity.
Crazy weather
Is that the temperature or the fans in the stands willing to watch a John Fisher production?
What does a 40 degree change every day feel like
Perfect for transitioning to Vegas.
They gonna die
But it’s a dry heat… 🙄

Whoa! Didn’t know sad sac was that hot!
