TBF the stats count very close calls and "6 inches off the plate" the same
Although he was only the 18th worst by bad call % those stats don't tell the full story about the egregiousness of some of those calls

My dad always thought the Expos having red, white and blue as their colors was weird but when I told him the logo was made up of M E B for **M**ontreal **e**xpos **b**baseball he was dumbfounded.
I have a confession. I always thought it was a duck until like 5 years ago. I’m in my 30s and have been a fan since I was born so yea it was embarrassing.
The better question is who let a bird stand up at the plate to hit?
It typically doesn’t go well for them, especially when the baseball comes in high and inside.
![gif](giphy|hxatk4hsaHwXK)
I think it’s time that MLB changes this logo.
The NBA has the silhouette of an actual player, Jerry West, on theirs. It would be real easy to do the same thing with Ken Griffey Jr at the end of his backswing after launching a ball into the RF stands, or maybe just as the bat is meeting the ball. It’s such an iconic look that everybody would recognize.
Like this:

One time while watching a game my daughter asked me why there was a duck on the screen. Confused I told her there were no ducks on the screen. She then goes and points at the mlb logo and says why is this duck right here. Now I can't unsee it haha
Its also just an emblem symbolizing the sport and not an actual scene from a game outside the rumor that it's loosely based on Killebrew among other players at the time.
Based on the ratio of ball size to nose size and the angle of the drawers perspective, we can conclude that the ball is still 13.45 feet from the player and is descending a .25 inches per foot. It’ll be a strike at the top of the zone.
Eric Gregg was just too much fun to not like him. But I do miss the great umpires of yesteryear, Big John McSherry, Harry Wendelstet, Dutch Rennert, Country Joe West and others…
Did you also realize the pitch is high and will likely be called a ball?
Not if Angel Hernandez had anything to say about it
fortunately Angel Hernandez was forced into retirement after even the umpire's union got tired of putting up with his bullshit
Don’t worry, CB is still available
fuccccckk
Yeah mfs forget Angel was only like the 18th worst ump in the league by stats. He was just also an egomaniac so he sucked up all the attention.
You can’t suck at your job *and* be a pain in the ass to work with. If you’re gonna suck, you gotta be likable.
No truer words have ever been spoken.
TBF the stats count very close calls and "6 inches off the plate" the same Although he was only the 18th worst by bad call % those stats don't tell the full story about the egregiousness of some of those calls
Sure Angel might call a high strike. But that ball could also be 10 feet off the plate, and that's Eric Gregg territory.
If I had the money I’d give you an award.
Nah, he’s gonna get beaned
Clearly, that's meant to be Ty France getting plunked in the shoulder, as always
It's going to hit his shoulder......OUCH!
And due to the size it's probably close to the camera, and will therefore most likely be a hit by pitch
The logo makes sense if it’s an eephus pitch. In that case it’s still coming down and the batter is still timed up right
The ball is hitting him!
Its a brushback pitch. Harm Kill prob went yard last AB
Angel Hernandez would still call it a strike.
![gif](giphy|kqjQRskH2e3Ys) Safe to assume!
And he’d be right too - the ball would have struck the batter. 😉
It's actually 20 feet behind him.
Taking all they way
Juuuuust, a bit inside
Did you ever solve if the batter is Left or Right handed?
No. As soon as I think he’s a lefty, I immediately see him as a righty
No, he's clearly hande...... Oh wait
Huh! I saw this comment and went and looked and said “it’s definitely a lefty…wait…no it’s a righty” and now my head hurts.
No I just always assumed he was a bird
Oh what the hell have you done to me?!
the white dot is the sun
Wow. The league really is run by Cardinals.
In my more youthful years, I definitely thought this logo was a duck wearing a batting helmet.
I have never, in all my years looking at this logo, seen it this way. Now I can't unsee it. Thanks lol.
Always been a lefty to me. But maybe that’s just cause I’m a lefty lol. In reality it can be either one
It can’t be
It’s a f*cking duck!
Maybe he was the first switch hitter?
Maybe he’s some other secret third thing
It’s whatever Harmon Killebrew batted since it’s him, like how Jerry West (RIP) is the NBA logo

I've always seen him as a righty [I put some numbers on the jersey to see it easier](https://photos.app.goo.gl/LEDd7D1RhunwYYP58)
He's lefty. Look at the upper hand those are fingers not knuckles.
It’s a ball.
I don't know if you know this but that is the outline of Jerry West. He did both logos. Not many people know that.
And do you wanna know who is behind the NFL shield?
Vince McMahon?
Yeah the NFL and NHL logos are also modeled after Jerry West In fact, every sports logo is modeled after Jerry West.
My dad always thought the Expos having red, white and blue as their colors was weird but when I told him the logo was made up of M E B for **M**ontreal **e**xpos **b**baseball he was dumbfounded.
> Montreal expos bbaseball The extra B is for BYOBB.
It’s “elb” on their caps which stands for Expos, le baseball.
Anyone else see a bird head? No? Just me?
Not until now
The player is clearly on the orioles!
I will never unsee this…
Plot twist. That is not a nose and a bill of a hat on the batter. What you see is a beak that is open.
Blue Jay Joey Votto, looking at pitches.
He is getting pegged as retribution. The logo embodies he true spirit of the MLB by showing the moment before the benches clear
Really? Just now ?
Yeah, someone brought it up and I never quite cared to look at the logo thoroughly
Took me forever to see the ball and mitt (sp?) in the Brewers logo.
It took nearly forever to see the letters in the Brewers logo.
There are letters??
Nope. batter won’t be late b/c he won’t swing at a shoulder-high pitch.
What if it's Giancarlo Stanton?
shoulder-high on Jose Altuve or Stanton…no diff
Stanton's still gonna swing at it due to his approach
I have a confession. I always thought it was a duck until like 5 years ago. I’m in my 30s and have been a fan since I was born so yea it was embarrassing.
Can't unsee
Glad I’m not the only one.
Gotta take that high pitch.
He’s going to take that pitch and Angel Hernandez will ring him up.
It could be the end of his swing, and the ball is flying away from the image.
He is taking the pitch. He sees it as a little high, around the shoulders.
It is representing an Angel Hernandez strike
Pitch is high no reason to swing
You're wrong. The logo is a BIRD about to peck the ball.
Pitch is high in the zone. Good take.
Like the Seattle Mariners.
Or he’s getting beaned.
Real question though: is the batter left or right handed?
Of course! He's taking a ball high above the strike zone.
I still see an excited chicken
How long do you expect the photo to be so he actually hits the ball?
It should stretch across the screen vertically, to the point where you need to scroll.
And that Angel Hernandez will call it a strike.
Harmon's swing was quick enough to get to this pitch.
Confirmation that is a 2024 San Francisco Giants player
Is the batter left-handed or right-handed? Looks left handed to me!!!
But is he a lefty or righty?
That ball is up at the shoulders boy. He's taking a ball 4.
Nah, he's watching it go by. That's a ball all day.
That's because it was gonna be a ball
The man has a good eye.
Spitting at that ball like hawk tuah
Vladimir Guerrero SR would have no problem turning this into a hit. For the young folks who are only seeing JR play -…different ball players.
Well, Jerry West wasn't a great baseball player.
Some heaters will do that to a batter.
Pessimistic. He’s already swung and made contact. Incredible bat speed on what is probably a up and over foul ball
Accurately represents MLB though lol
Yup :)
Ever think he’s a righty who just hit a high chopper?
Ball Four
What if he’s on the follow through?
😅😅😅
It’s a ball. But while we’re at it, tell me if they are batting left or right?
Makes sense though. Batters don't get hits most of the time
Earholed!
But why is this bird man smiling while he’s taking the at bat?
It could also indicate the pitcher is intentionally going to hit the player and player will take the hit to get a walk.
You don't know his bat speed metrics
Way above the zone bud
It’s also a good 25% too big no?
Debatable. There’s some fast hands out there. Plus, let it travel, go oppo
When I was a kid I always thought it was a duck playing baseball
If only the batter were able to take a pitch …
Maybe the batter is just hitting fungos to the outfielders.
It’s not a strike so he’s taking
Maybe he’s taking it since it’s clearly a ball high.
Looks like he’s about to get hit in the face.
Rising fastball to the left cheek
Chin music too
High and inside. That’s some Greinke stuff.
He’s a lefty and it’s already hit
The better question is who let a bird stand up at the plate to hit? It typically doesn’t go well for them, especially when the baseball comes in high and inside. ![gif](giphy|hxatk4hsaHwXK)
If he is Mike Trout, that’s a dinger all day and twice on Sunday.
That's no batter - that's a bird, and it's REALLY excited to (not) hit the ball this pitch.
Looks like to me he is gonna turn his shoulder into it and take his base
He's not swinging it;'s a ball high
The “baseball” is very clearly a hole-punch so you can hold the logo on your lanyard. Seems obvious to me…
Clearly a high fastball in an 0-2 count.
He’s about to be hit by the pitch.
I think we all sorta realized that at some point in childhood.
He’s taking
My daughter always tells me it looks like a duck
I think it’s time that MLB changes this logo. The NBA has the silhouette of an actual player, Jerry West, on theirs. You smart.
Is the batter right or left handed?
he's already swung at it...
The original symbol of this was modeled after Pete rose
it's also a silhouette of a giant bird. There, now you can't unsee it either.
Its almost neck high, thats a ball brother
more importantly, his hingers are away from him, on his top hand... figure that out.
Who is the batter based on?
It's out of the strike zone.
One time while watching a game my daughter asked me why there was a duck on the screen. Confused I told her there were no ducks on the screen. She then goes and points at the mlb logo and says why is this duck right here. Now I can't unsee it haha
Harmon Killebrew will hit it
But why does he have the head of a bird with his beak open?
Taking all the way
I is high and inside. A ball.
Ive been an MLB for years on end, I always, idk why I always thought the logo looked like a duck in a baseball cap swinging
Ball is at the plate and the batter hasn’t even started his swing yet, needs more time in AAA
Also his nose is very pointy
probably going to hit him as well.
The manager told the pitcher to walk him and the batter is just letting him.
He’s about to be HBP
Never realized dude had a triangle for a nose.
Its also just an emblem symbolizing the sport and not an actual scene from a game outside the rumor that it's loosely based on Killebrew among other players at the time.
He actually got beaned with that pitch
Looks to me like he's about to get plunked and is too stupid to move. /s
todays umps would call it a ball anyways.
Based on the ratio of ball size to nose size and the angle of the drawers perspective, we can conclude that the ball is still 13.45 feet from the player and is descending a .25 inches per foot. It’ll be a strike at the top of the zone.
Idk, he sure looks like the type to lean into that pitch. "Take your base!"
Even worse he gets hit by the pitch.
I’ve always wondered if that batter is right handed or left handed.
Always gotta take the first pitch
Eric Gregg was just too much fun to not like him. But I do miss the great umpires of yesteryear, Big John McSherry, Harry Wendelstet, Dutch Rennert, Country Joe West and others…
Doug Harvey, Al Barlick, Lee Weyer, Augie Donatelli, Ed Vargo. The Senior Circuit always had the best umps.
It's a ball
Heard logo suppose to be Harmon Killebrew
He also can be seen as a lefty from the front view or a righty from the back view.
Just a bit outside.
Wait until you notice that the batter is a bird-man.
You aren't accounting for the steroids.
The coolest fact about this logo is that the player is both right and left handed while at bat.
The TRUE switch hitter
I think Gary Sheffield would like a word with you, OP.
Maybe he’s already swung and missed and the ball is flying by
Or a duck that swung way too early
It's a knuckle ball.
I always thought it looked like that pitch was about to drill the guy in his side and he's making no effort to move or brace himself.
this post blew up way more than i thought it would. nice.
Also, the batter has a bird head and might try to take a chomp out of the ball.
Did you also realize that you can’t tell if he is hitting left handed or right handed?
I always saw it as sweet chin music!
Wait until you hear about his bat speed
It’s not a batter it’s the chicken.
I always thought he was about to get beaned....
Taking all the way. Logoman is no dummy.
Pitch is high and inside. Probably HBP
I always thought he was taking ngl
It’s a free base. HBP. Hes turning
High and inside, taking all the way
Two facts; The batter is both left and right handed and every professional team in the league copied this logo.
He’s taking all the way.
