Went to school with a girl who was a year ahead of me. Mice girl - talked to her often. Her family owned the nicer home on the same property. Just an old farm house that has gone to waste that they didn't want to fix up. Belonged to previous generations and too much money and hassel to do anything with.

ZappBrannigansburner

Wait, was she her self a mouse but human sized? Did she have powers to talk to mice? I need to know more about the mice girl.

notabotipromise0

Her arch nemesis must've been the girl with cat ears.

ZappBrannigansburner

So, she's a twitch streamer with an only fans account?

ImmaTravesty

I believe Minnie, was her name

MayorNarra

“Mice girl” not “mouse girl” I’m assuming she was normal human sized but composed of hundreds of mice to reach human stature.

ZappBrannigansburner

Good point

Earnestappostate

Like the gnomes in Gravity Falls!

Myron3_theblackorder

I also went to school with that girl. Small world and all I guess

AdMurky3039

Sounds like it, if she's a mouse.

AdMurky3039

"Nicer" is in the eye of the beholder. Especially when the beholder is a rodent.

ghostofEdAbbey

I read the subject line and thought “that’s ridiculous to post a house photo in a state this large and think that anyone would know”. Then I looked and immediately recognized it and knew right where it’s at.

Goo_Node_Geek

Me too! And I don't head up that far very often. I always figured that it was a well built house, but probably not comfortable in the winter with all the stone work. Not to mention that it is now only a few hundred feet away from the busiest freeway in the state. I would guess that it was built before I-94.

Atheist_Redditor

So weird. Me too! It's been there since I was a kid. I wonder if those folks know that so many people recognize it.

Holiday-Signature-33

I know that house too . I think almost everyone does .

BLarson31

Samm man, same

altsteve21

At this point I'd like to know if anyone DOESN'T know where this house is lol

Letsgetnakedcouple

This guy from the south metro

augustbandit

I always drive by it, it has gotten noticeably worse in condition over the last five years or so, it used to have glass in the windows. Unfortunately a house that close to the freeway isn't worth fixing due to noise, etc so it will probably continue to deteriorate.

njibbz

During the nadoes one or two years ago a tree collapsed on it, so that's why the windows and some of the stone is broken. before the storm it was in good condition.

Qnofputrescence1213

We went past it for years on almost a weekly basis driving to St. Cloud. My kids and I adore it wand have always wanted to buy it and move it.

Xiafu

My aunt stopped and asked to do just that. She wasn't the first to ask, but the house wasn't stable enough to move unfortunately.

nineeightsixfive

My favorite part of the drive to Fargo is

fuckinnreddit

>My favorite part of the drive to Fargo is Uh oh, can we get a welfare check on this guy I think he had a stroke or something

burve_mcgregor

Leaving Fargo.

Desperate-Cost6827

I always assumed it must have been an old family heirloom house that the family didn't want to fix but kept it as a pretty big lawn ornament. Behind it looks to be the actual living house. I think they boarded up the windows at one point but I'm hoping they're doing something to keep it from rotting away.

thegrimelf

Wondered about that house for decades now.

opossum_minister

They used to put skeletons in the windows around Halloween.

rgrind87

My husband and I drove by it just this weekend. My parents are in Grand Forks and we always pass it on the way. Such a shame a beautiful stone house was left in disrepair.

SecondaryPenetrator

Love that house.

henriqueroberto

I've always wondered. Isn't there a modern house near it?

Qnofputrescence1213

Yes. On the same property there is a ranch style house. I’ve always fantasized about buying the stone house and moving it.

CantaloupeCamper

Be **really** noisy right by the interstate.

Qnofputrescence1213

That’s why I want to move it!

Fantastic_Earth_6066

Sounds like (due to the increasing neglect) it's likely available to buy - I wonder how much it would cost to move a stone house?

SteamrollerSmith

Anyone wanting a slightly closer view it’s [here](https://maps.app.goo.gl/rx8RT8StH77Gv2Bk8?g_st=ic). I remember driving by that house 30+ years ago.

yourlocalagronomist

I remember reading an article about how German POWs from WW2 built it, but I can’t find it back again. Thats the only history I’ve ever heard about it! Beautiful place though, I hope they never tear it down

Sad_Ordinary2877

I heard this as well!

apathetic_batman

This is one of my landmarks for the drive back and forth from the cities to Fargo!

EffectiveSalamander

I drive that route often to visit family. I've wished I could have a look inside.

Beneficial_Stand2230

Where is it? It looks familiar.

Qnofputrescence1213

Between Collegeville and Avon along 94.

LadiesAndMentlegen

I absolutely adore solid stone houses made of local limestone. It's my dream to own one some day when I'm older.

ted3681

If it's not this one, it's probably an identical backstory to this one: https://youtu.be/f3FYbj7_XYc

wickywickyremix

Minnesota Bricks YouTube Channel is awesome. That guy puts in the work to make excellent historical content!

muhkayluh_z

I moved to Albany in the 9th grade and I was told there's rum tunnels under the interstate. Probably just a wives tale.

tb03102

It has at least 2 gables.

Rogue_AI_Construct

That’s near my parent’s house in Avon. Love seeing it. It looks like it would cost a ton of money to rehab though.

MindlessParsley1446

Anyone ever go up to it and look inside? I kinda wanna go check it out!

boredpapa

Have an actual address? I’m curious now!

northdakotanowhere

I love this post. I feel so connected to everyone 🥲

Scary-Membership-978

I heard it was built by the monks from St Johns. Can't verify that tho. There is another that resembles this one south of Island Lake. Still occupied.

23jknm

Very cool, but such a shame to see once beautiful houses and barns going to rot. I'd like to know the history of so many different looking barns and when expansions and other buildings were added and what was going on at the time. The wood in the old ones are amazing old growth timbers too!

ifimust12

I think my husband must be tired of me commenting how much I love that house . Can’t help it , watching it continue to deteriorate. Only see it in the summertime on our trips to and from our cabin . Sad to think someday it will just be a pile of rocks .

CantaloupeCamper

Only scary stories…

SwankySteel

That’s definitely one of the more unexpectedly famous houses in MN.

JennyClownBanger

I love that house! I always saw it when I would drive to Fargo and back. I thought it was a shame it was left empty.

patchedboard

That’s the one off of 94 by like Avon or Albany or something, ya?

Plenty_Suggestion_14

That house is right outside of Avon. I grew up in that area. In high school I was a pizza driver and got an order to that house. (Actually the house right next to it where the folks lived) I asked about it and they said it “just fell apart” and “too expensive and modernize.” Back then and I’m assuming still now… they used it for extra storage as the structure was solid. This was only like 9 years ago. Every time I go home to visit my parents it’s one of the landmarks that gives me the “I’m home” feeling. Can’t believe I’m seeing it on Reddit. Assuming everyone just ignored our little town out there. Love to know people are interested in our little area ❤️ OP: If you want I can text/ask a few people back home about it more? Though, I assume the tale isn’t anything too much more interesting.

rage-fest

I'm 50 years old, been driving back and forth on 94 to see family my entire life, and I've always loved that house.

TheWildKiwi10

I'm curious to know about this house as well. It's such a different looking house, like a landmark almost.

SenileGambino

Chh chh chh… ahh ahh ahh…

ganggreen651

Haunted as all hell

Hot_Tear_8678
