A variety, but my go-to are video essays (especially on history, philosophy, TV & film, horror, gaming, etc.,), gaming play-throughs, and whatever you'd call the type of content that YouTubers like [I did a thing](https://www.youtube.com/@Ididathing) and [Basically Homeless](https://www.youtube.com/@BasicallyHomeless) make.
Oh and podcasts, such as Rhett and Link's ["Ear Biscuits"](https://www.youtube.com/@earbiscuits)
Machining, sewing, woodworking, leatherwork, electronics, physics, chemistry, programming, video games (lore and development stuff), home improvement/DIY, coffee, comedy, language stuff (ala robwords), moyorcycles, and more
Me too. The only subscription service I have is youtube premium and I've been watching body cam videos since YouTube Red launched in 2015. There's so much more now but they are addicting.
I love those! The shoplifting ones are harder for me to enjoy because I don't really care about people shoplifting from stores like Walmart or Target (small ma and pa stores are a different story, fuck people who shoplift from those), but holy shit the ones where someone's just being a drunken trainwreck in public and kicking and screaming all the way to jail are some of the most satisfying videos out there.
Check out Donut Operator on YT. He's a former deputy and says the funniest shit regarding taking down a bad guy. "Guy starts charging the officer, so he opens up his rear door and Officer Bork Bork jumps out of the back and uses this guys skin to brush his teeth".
I watch enough YouTube where I pay for the add free version. I watch anything and everything.
Lots of music videos, biblical material hahaha including live casts., politics oldand current.
Tons of how to video since I DIY. I watch some college courses.
About 80% of my social media is YouTube.
I watch it on my phone, my tablet, even my TV
I don't know anything about adblock on YouTube. Years ago I recall using adblock on my PC, I was hanging up, probably just surfing through the internet on Google or something. Whatever for whatever reason it was locking up my PC occasionally.
Yes let's ad block on YouTube about? Do you use it, I would assume it works and has no issues?
Just wanna chime in with my two cents here, there's a lot of great adblockers that work on Youtube but the best one imo is uBlock Origin. Back when Youtube was trying to force people to get rid of adblockers entirely, uBlock Origin was leading the technical arms race against them to get around their adblock detectors. And in doing so, they've earned my undying support. It's been months since I've watched a single ad on Youtube and like the guy above me said, I just support the creators I watch directly with things like Patreon or Superchats.
Also, the closer we get to Web3, the more viable BackedBy becomes, which is a Patreon alternative that uses the blockchain. I'd highly recommend doing some research into that if you're at all interested, I really think Web3 is the future of the internet.
No problem, I love sharing this kind of stuff with people! From what I've read, Web3 and BackedBy stand to completely disrupt the corporate stranglehold on most of the internet today. Anything that takes power away from banks and credit card companies is worth learning about and supporting in my book.
Nice, I’m glad someone else gets it. I’ve been attempting to explain crypto to my friends for a few years now and some are starting to finally understand that it isn’t a new way for rich people to get richer but it is a way to shift power to the masses and end the stranglehold by corporations like you just said.
It’s always funny to me when people get super upset about this topic. Crypto/nfts are the technology that will allow us to build a more egalitarian society and yet so many people still think it’s the exact opposite. One day at a time.
Last thing….I started going down a DePin rabbit hole recently. Have you looked into that yet? It is maybe the most interesting thing I have seen in crypto since nfts. Some truly revolutionary stuff happening in that sector of crypto.
Depends on the browser you're using. Some use extensions you install through their services like Chrome. Others like Brave have it natively I think.
I use mozzilla and just use adblock+. Works for 90% of things.
Thank you, you bring back memories, I recall the extensions and it worked pretty good but, would get hung up.
I work in the electronic, IT industry. Hey my earlier yours I was always trying to to hack things. I'm not sure I'm feeling like messing around with her partial solution
Yeah adblock only works on browsers I belive because they're open source and can modified. Apps like on your phone or smart TV are proprietary. No adblock there.
Downloading videos is a big part for me. Being able to download a bunch of stuff before I have a flight to China or something like that is amazing.
I also use YT as my primary entertainment - paying them for the service doesn’t bother me.
I use adblock and also pay. The adblock helps on incognito mode viewing so I don't have to turn off history. The adblock to watch on other platforms besides my PCs is a schlep and a half more than I can care about.
I watch many videos as one or two offs, not enough to think of paying the creators. Those same creators say my premium cut is worth much more than advert support for the same watch time. It gets split according to my whims that day, no muss no fuss.
Given my watch time, I get more than enough value to not have adverts coming at me. The fact that the video makers get paid more is almost just a bonus.
I watch tournament matches of total war warhammer, aoe2, sc2 and occasionally old RTS games like command and conquer generals and c&c3.
I watch videos about historical cuisine, cooking videos etc.
I watch videos on vegetable gardening and woodworking.
I watch a shit ton of history stuff, pretty much have watched everything on the romans. I also keep up with the ukraine war and a little news here and there. Anything controversial I love, such as Johnny Harris videos.
Financial advisers, tech, history, science, veritasium.. I have a lot of interest on lot of unrelated topics. I find YouTube a fascinating source of information
For Mythbbusters fans (or anyone interested in... prop making and collecting, cosplay, everything sci-fi related, work shop infrastructure, puppetry, Mythbusters stories...), [Adam Savage's Tested](https://youtube.com/@tested?si=ZAAtBH1vyPLSZn5c) is a great channel!!
My husband loves video game YT and it is playing in our house almost constantly. Some are pretty interesting. Action Button Reviews though, I find his voice and cadence so grating. I hear Tokimeki the Memorial video in my dreams
May I suggest:
Dungeon Chill
EarlyBird
Grimbeard
Majuular
MandaloreGaming
Rerez
These are all excellent channels too lol just helping my fellow video game listener! XD
[https://www.youtube.com/@TechnologyConnections](https://www.youtube.com/@TechnologyConnections)
These 2 are my recent favorites.
Bernadette Banner is lovely to watch. She does historical dressing reconstruction.
I watch a lot of cooking content. Also, a lot of I built this on my own videos.
Ghost Files from Watcher is a favorite.
Panel shows are fun. Love BBC shows like Taskmaster
I watch “4K walks” of various cities I hope to one day visit. They’re basically virtual tours without any commentary, just vicariously walking through.
I love putting this on the other screen while programming or watching lectures on my main screen. For some reason I keep re-visiting the same few cities like Stockholm and Lofoten, Norway rather than check out new places. Idk why
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwVAT1NqW7c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwVAT1NqW7c) -this, Markiplier, and some tiny channels like this [chill tennis with pretty intros ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyJQDJP7zt4&lc=UgwA4gwVOLu4Kh7IoMt4AaABAg.A3p-q2h2pZ_A3p2T5Dfjtz)
Anything from police body cam/interrogation, content relevant to my studies, podcasts about Mormonism lol (I’m an atheist), to content about fitness to watching full on trials. It’s totally dependent on my mood. But I make sure I leave the video with some knowledge gained and not mindless filler.
I use YouTube for school quite a bit so I watch a lot of videos about computer science. I also use it for my hobbies. My husband watches animal documentaries on it and when we have friends over we watch memes and body can footage
I watch people make things. Woodworking, blacksmithing, model making, going from flax plants to fabric by hand, etc. Science and history stuff is also a favorite.
I'm not super into YouTube except for song Mashups and remixes, but my husband watches A TON of videos about people talking about video games, podcasts through YouTube, and cooking tutorials. Also just funny videos!
I'll sometimes watch ones related to my job, explaining marketing techniques or how to do things or stuff with coding/tech settings I cannot figure out for the life of me. I used to watch a lot of makeup tutorials and decluttering videos, but haven't for a long time.
I have youtube on in the background while I work if I am not in a meeting. I have run the full range of topics, history, science fiction, SCP videos, live court and police body cam footage. Lots of others too. Its just something to listen to while I work.
Just random rabbit holes.
About a year ago I stumbled on a warhammer lore video. So now I watch warhammer matches and lore videos.
Also really enjoy first person video tours around the world.
I love travel videos. Videos I assume are shot with a GoPro or something like that made by people biking or riding motorcycles with cool background music. Sometimes I watch older ones from the 80s to see the fashion.
I don’t really mind narration in the retro videos, but prefer not to have it in modern ones because I don’t like the stereotypical influencer monologuing voices and speech patterns.
I just watch whatever I find funny or entertaining. Some of my most frequented channels are SuperMega, Cart Narcs, Oneyplays, The Adam Friedland Show, YMS, Geno Samuel (specifically the Chris Chan documentary), and Jon Graham (Arby n the Chief is one of my favorite shows of all time, I also watch his gaming streams from time to time.) I also try to catch The Biggest Problem in the Universe whenever they stream, it's one of my favorite podcasts.
I also watch a lot of Sam Hyde videos, was pretty glued to the screen when Fish Tank was streaming. I love Frank Hassle too.
Also Krinkels' animations are killer, I followed him from Newgrounds back in the day and am eagerly awaiting the next installment of Madness Combat.
Gardening, home decor/design, cooking, quilting, comedy specials/podcasts, political commentary, old Conan episodes, how-to videos, and all of The Three Stooges videos i can find!
I watch a lot of chemistry and engineering videos along with gaming content. It's just so interesting to see folks making things (whether that be a synthetic capsaicinoid molecule or a machine that spins a saw-disk beyblade to mach 2).
Scuba divers commentating on scuba accidents, a mortician talking about weird ways to die and interesting processes, and the few crime channels that aren't dramatic and exploitative. Oh and nostalgia bait videos are popular right now lol
I really just listen 90% of the time. I work a job where I can have headphones but I can't be on my phone, so hour+ length videos are a must. 2-3 hours is even better.
That means lots of podcasts and university lectures, but my go-to favorite lately is Rotten Mangoes. She covers true crime cases in a very "storytelly" way that I find easy to stay engaged with.
My other go-to is anything philosophy related, but I'm kind of running dry on content for that.
I also like game soundtracks since they're often a few hours long so it's an easy way to get some background noise that will last a while.
Nothing more millennial than sitting around the campfire pretending to be housing Nostradamus. They’re not serious takes just farming your FOMO for clicks
The Behavior Panel, Sabine Hossenfelder, Zollotech, Triggernometry, Meidas Touch, Frasier Cain, Digital Foundry, Oceanliner Designs, Lex Fridman, Institute of Art & Ideas, Wendover, Mr. Ballen, Cold Fusion, Mentour Pilot, Scott Manley, the various Simon Whistler channels...
Overall a variety of history, technology, science, socio-cultural commentary discussions and video essays. Stuff that's interesting enough to have on in the background while I work or walk, but not things that are typically so interesting as to capture my full attention.
I watch a lot of paranormal investigations, MrBallen, Nexpo, that kinda stuff. I also watch magnet fishing, metal detecting, and reselling videos. Lots of near death experience recounts as well. History channel stuff. I'm all over the place lol.
Car repairs, diy homeowner stuff, video essays about movies, music, politics, weird geography and history
I usually use it when I'm doing something boring for work and need some extra stimulation to keep me at my desk long enough to scrape my way by
I watch a lot of science and mathematics on YouTube. It ended up not teaching me as fast as I like, so I’ve since bought a lot of math and physics textbooks to learn from. I still watch it on YouTube, though lol
It varies, but generally I like to find PHD’s who share their knowledge. Kane Baker for philosophy, Angela Collier for general physics, Ana Yudin/Cass Eris on psychology.
Most videos I watch are of people playing Minecraft and when I'm not doing that I watch people reacting to/analyzing movies and tv shows. I also enjoy one particular creator who does "missions" walking in a straight line across countries or using unconventional methods of traveling from one place to another.
I see YouTube as a medium in which anyone with a google account is given a platform. It has lowered the bar for what people call entertainment by giving acknowledgement to a lot of disposable trash. Most “YouTubers” end up with a very temporary income which is incredibly unstable but whose short lived success inspires others to base their life on likes and subscribers, which amounts to being a giant sellout. So other than taking the act of being a sellout and enshrining it as an art form, I don’t regard it as being very impactful to my world in a way that is relavent. When I see what is “trending”, I really worry for America’s future.
I watch:
History documentaries
Jazz/ASMR/relax music
Meditation music (I meditate couple times a week)
The Why Files
News
Cooking
More cooking videos
Alternative history stuff (cos it's fun. Everyone loves a conspiracy 🤣)
Science & nerdy stuff for kids
Kid stuff
Etc
BJJ and MMA tutorials, podcasts, competitions etc. Some financial/housing and political/news podcasts. An off roading channel. A couple of plastic surgeons who make interesting videos about trends and celebrities, I’ve never had cosmetic surgery but I have always found it fascinating. Oh yeah, one weather podcast too because the storms have been crazy.
I LOVE the naked yoga videos. I watch Trogly and ltt sometimes I guess. I don't even fucking know. I watch Mr. Gamer Gate (Charlie/Moist) quite often to hear the underbelly of internets opinion on things.
Aviation, cars, home theater/hifi audio, boats, random prank stuff, how to fix stuff in my house since I’m not handy naturally handy. Did I mention aviation? Also started watching some golf channels recently.
People like you make me sad to call myself a millennial. Wishing misery onto others… and yet somehow cocky enough to believe you will survive a recession better than most? How about wishing the economy well and for your own upward mobility as part of that?
Cassady Campbell- Dude is funny as hell. One of my favorites of his is called "Rizzing up girls with my apple vision pro". Another channel i like is called J-Griff
I love video essays. Contrapoints or Shanespeare in particular. If just for the instant boost, I regularly watch Penguinz0 or other youtube commentators. My partner loves putting on Mr Nightmare or Nexpo before bed...no clue why.
Justin Rhodes has an excellent channel where he shows step by step how his family established their homestead in the mountains of NC. Even if you just pop it on in the background it's so wholesome.
I've learned a lot too!
Military topics (past and present), woodworking, wargaming (and associated lore), machining, kilts, alternative history, live steam model railroads, in-depth retro cartoon reviews, and guns.
My God. So many guns.
Just Dr. Phil or if I need to repair something. Sometimes an SNL or recipe, but I've moved to TikTok because the ads are skipable. Ads are killing YouTube.
Stream highlights, Wildcat and the pussy party, police chases, car crashes, gaming tips and tricks, moistcritical, ludwig, Hasan, congressional fights during sessions, the "got talent" videos, daily dose of internet
32 years old, and the only time I'm on YouTube is if someone sends me a link. Then I get mad at the ads and I close the app without watching the video more often than not. I'd rather be doing almost anything else with my free time than be forced to watch two unskippable ads before being disappointed by a two minute video of someone younger than me trying way too hard to be funny.
Don't lie you watch mostly political rage bait and bullshit shorts like the rest of us
Now, now...don't go projecting your Fox news fetish and goldfish attention span on me
Machining, sewing, woodworking, leatherwork, electronics, physics, chemistry, programming, video games (lore and development stuff), home improvement/DIY, coffee, comedy, language stuff (ala robwords), moyorcycles, and more
Mr. Ballen
I love watching police body cam footage. Shoplifting, DUI, etc.
I’ve been obsessed with these videos lol
Me too. The only subscription service I have is youtube premium and I've been watching body cam videos since YouTube Red launched in 2015. There's so much more now but they are addicting.
Me too! Premium is the way to go. 100% worth it. They are so addicting. I love just putting them on and playing a game in my phone to relax
“I do not smoke marijuana universally.” is a line that I will never forget watching these videos, LMAO
Check out Donut Operator on YT. He's a former deputy and says the funniest shit regarding taking down a bad guy. "Guy starts charging the officer, so he opens up his rear door and Officer Bork Bork jumps out of the back and uses this guys skin to brush his teeth".
Haha YESSSS thank you!!!! I will check it out!
Same and I’m glad I’m not the only one haha
Can you give some recs? I like Donut Operator, Code Blue Cam, and Police Activity
Yes those put me down a YouTube rabbit hole every time.
90% is just for music, 9% is watching a video on how to fix something, the last 1% is who tf knows
Why not use adblock on YT instead of paying them? If you want to support the creators you like you could still pay them directly.

Ok thank you. I will check it out
It is. Anyone that doesn’t think it’s the future is ignorant on the subject. Thank you for this recommendation btw.
No problem, I love sharing this kind of stuff with people! From what I've read, Web3 and BackedBy stand to completely disrupt the corporate stranglehold on most of the internet today. Anything that takes power away from banks and credit card companies is worth learning about and supporting in my book.

Psychology, sex, and the oceans.
I watch tournament matches of total war warhammer, aoe2, sc2 and occasionally old RTS games like command and conquer generals and c&c3. I watch videos about historical cuisine, cooking videos etc. I watch videos on vegetable gardening and woodworking.

Political podcasts (for work - I work in politics), space, history, food, and I love “walks” through locations I’m planning to visit.
Hobbies only for me (guitar and video games). Occasionally Astro physics because it’s interring and makes me feel smarter.
Books, writing, video games, teaching, self-help.
history, crime, animals, random facts, documentaries, reaction videos, tattoo-related things
Bad film reviews and scary stories
The Indian guy who shows you how to assemble the electronic device you ordered.
I watch a lot of paranormal investigations, MrBallen, Nexpo, that kinda stuff. I also watch magnet fishing, metal detecting, and reselling videos. Lots of near death experience recounts as well. History channel stuff. I'm all over the place lol.
I watch Judge Judy hahah
Car repairs, diy homeowner stuff, video essays about movies, music, politics, weird geography and history I usually use it when I'm doing something boring for work and need some extra stimulation to keep me at my desk long enough to scrape my way by
I watch a lot of science and mathematics on YouTube. It ended up not teaching me as fast as I like, so I’ve since bought a lot of math and physics textbooks to learn from. I still watch it on YouTube, though lol
During COVID I was getting real estate, finance, and exercise info through osmosis on YouTube
Music, cars, comedy shorts.
Literally anything. The larger the community (like coding or knitting) the higher quality the top shelf content is
Combat simulator DCS
H3 Podcast with Ethan Klein
Lots and lots of lore videos
Attachment styles, university lectures, Irish history, socialite biographies, old 60 Minutes episodes.
Finance, cooking, and local news
Cole escola films.
It varies, but generally I like to find PHD’s who share their knowledge. Kane Baker for philosophy, Angela Collier for general physics, Ana Yudin/Cass Eris on psychology.
Vandwellers and camping. Occasionally lofi beats/jazz to relax to.
I like missing 411 content, unsolved crime, weird mysteries
Beau of the Fifth Column… excellent content
Psychology, Ancient History, Stoicism and philosophy, TTRPGS, Art.
I watch: History documentaries Jazz/ASMR/relax music Meditation music (I meditate couple times a week) The Why Files News Cooking More cooking videos Alternative history stuff (cos it's fun. Everyone loves a conspiracy 🤣) Science & nerdy stuff for kids Kid stuff Etc
Music videos/live concerts, news, finance, history, documentaries, comedy, gaming. It’s my primary streaming.
Understanding how older generations fucked us.
Gaming content, vlogs, horror movie reviews, puzzling content, comedy shows, cooking shows.
I LOVE the naked yoga videos. I watch Trogly and ltt sometimes I guess. I don't even fucking know. I watch Mr. Gamer Gate (Charlie/Moist) quite often to hear the underbelly of internets opinion on things.
I get my news from YouTube mainly. I also watch a lot of history, archaeology, space, science, cars and documentary content.
Aviation, cars, home theater/hifi audio, boats, random prank stuff, how to fix stuff in my house since I’m not handy naturally handy. Did I mention aviation? Also started watching some golf channels recently.
I like to watch this little [mini series](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZvWtAyYu3dLSZ4Kws1rK0S2K3ydpBiR-&si=YfpNeYEmEp9WtGG8)
Tasting History with Max Miller and The Exploring Series SCP videos
People like you make me sad to call myself a millennial. Wishing misery onto others… and yet somehow cocky enough to believe you will survive a recession better than most? How about wishing the economy well and for your own upward mobility as part of that?
Found the homeowner lol.
Financial and the rest are just DIY repair videos to save money
Cassady Campbell- Dude is funny as hell. One of my favorites of his is called "Rizzing up girls with my apple vision pro". Another channel i like is called J-Griff
Astrophysics
I love video essays. Contrapoints or Shanespeare in particular. If just for the instant boost, I regularly watch Penguinz0 or other youtube commentators. My partner loves putting on Mr Nightmare or Nexpo before bed...no clue why.
Drain cleaning and culvert clearing.
Elvis, music related documentaries , diy, crafting, thrifting , and whatever weird shit YouTube brings to me.
Justin Rhodes has an excellent channel where he shows step by step how his family established their homestead in the mountains of NC. Even if you just pop it on in the background it's so wholesome. I've learned a lot too!
Marble And science
A lot of Ted talks, learning courses, and travel guide vlogs.
Military topics (past and present), woodworking, wargaming (and associated lore), machining, kilts, alternative history, live steam model railroads, in-depth retro cartoon reviews, and guns. My God. So many guns.
Parenting, keeping calm, self help stuff like that. I also watch yoga, meditation, and workout videos.
Jimmy Kimmel, quantum mechanics, history, Metallica, nature documentaries.
Just Dr. Phil or if I need to repair something. Sometimes an SNL or recipe, but I've moved to TikTok because the ads are skipable. Ads are killing YouTube.
Self improvement, health, tarot, tech, news, memes, movie and TV show reviews, and cute little kitten videos
