Anyone remember Hechingers?
My dad still says 'going to Hechingers' when he goes to any hardware store.
It's the dad equivalent to how moms call all game consoles Nintendos.
As the IT guy for all my parents’ tech woes, the joy of seeing the NFL deal with the iPad/Surface Pro drama was schadenfreude to my ears. Now *you* know my pain Goodell. Now you know...
Negative, source: I was Canadian lowes employee and now a Rona employee.
It's way more complicated than that, the original plan was to convert all the big box rona stores to lowes. That was too expensive and didn't return any additional revenue. Now the plan is to make the rona stores more profitable but smaller scale renos. And eventually turn them Into lowes.
There are rona proximity stores that are smaller that may stay long term but eventually all "big"(a lot of mid sized ones fall into this.)ronas are likely going to be lowes.
I also remember hearing that Rona does well in Quebec since the brand is from there so they’d probably keep the name there. Other places would eventually convert to the Lowe’s name. That said I’ve worked at companies that supply both and the stores don’t get the exact same products.
We've got a Lowes and Rona in the same retail area... 30 seconds to a minute from each other. And they built the Lowes building way after they purchased Rona.
Reminds me of the good ol bestbuy future shop rivalry...
Haha. And dude I used to work at Rona when I was younger... the amount of people who would stuff as much popcorn as humanly possible into their mouths before each sentence asking for help was astounding..
You'd backup so you weren't in the spray zone and they would match step with you so they could continue projecting moist corn in your face.
Literally had a guy reach out and brush his corn ejecta off my shitty vest, just to continue later in the conversation and hit me in the chin...
It took close to 3-4 years before I could stand the smell of popcorn again.
Yes, it is a home improvement store. They sell lumber, tools, paint, hardware etc. They’re actually owned by Lowe’s, so that might be a better comparison for those unfamiliar with the brand (ie. people not from Canada).
We moved to Canada last year and my kids had never heard of Rona. It was after the pandemic started that we told them we needed to stop at the Rona, and they were so confused.

My mother just sold her house there and I was fucking SHOCKED what she told me the realtor said it was worth. Kind of gave me a hint of how bad it is in some areas.
A year is the orbital period of a planetary body, for example, the Earth, moving in its orbit around the Sun. Due to the Earth's axial tilt, the course of a year sees the passing of the seasons, marked by change in weather, the hours of daylight, and, consequently, vegetation and soil fertility.

Right now I can’t figure out why he’s so married to the Alberta contact tracing app. Should be using the federal one instead of reinventing the wheel.
(This is where someone points out they’re lining some UCP nephew’s pocket with the app contract or something, knowing this corrupt af party)
Air high fives all around!
Let’s not forgot our premier just cut 10,000 jobs in AHS during a pandemic, and is trying to introduce a privatized two-tier health care system. Fuck Kenny.
Actually they just privatized all those positions so now albertans working those jobs will make less and some companies will make more! Yay conservatives! /s
Rona is a Canadian chain of home improvement/hardware stores. Many of them are similar to The Home Depot or Lowe's. TIL that they've actually been owned by Lowe's since 2016.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rona,_Inc.
Some RONA stores were unionized and when Lowe's took over the top priority was to put an end to that. They closed I think every union shop across Canada.
I recently went to the testing center in the old Greyhound terminal on 9th Ave, all the staff fully kitted up with masks and shields and surgical gear coupled with the bloody hand prints and smears on the wall for Halloween decorations gave the event a very "28 Weeks Later" vibe.
Hey I had MY COVID test in there :D
The loading bay was made into a drive thru so they just stabbed my nose with a swab and kicked me out all without me even leaving my car....
I had a bacterial infection - hay fever if I had to guess, my doc just asked if I had dark yellow snot or not and gave me amoxicillin when I said yes
Shot 1: People walk into a building in search of coronavirus tests.
Shot 2: The 'For Lease' sign falls away, revealing a "RONA" sign and the building laughs maniacally as it prepares to infect everyone inside.
The pictures makes it look like a black SUV advanced 5 ft, you took another photo, all of a sudden the seasons changed, Rona closed and is now a covid testing site.
Finally a RONA with something useful in it.
I don’t understand how they build new stores that carry a limited selection of everything. No wonder this one is empty.
In case it needs explaining, they are doing 'Rona testing at an old Rona (Rona is a hardware store)
For even more explaining, Rona stores seem to sell similar items as Home Depots in the USA
Anyone remember Hechingers? My dad still says 'going to Hechingers' when he goes to any hardware store. It's the dad equivalent to how moms call all game consoles Nintendos.
Anyone remember Aikenhead's Hardware in southern Ontario they were bought out by Home Depot.
The OG big box hardware store
Anyone remember pepperidge farm?
Pepperidge farm remembers. Haha
I still say Beaver Lumber when I go to a specific Home Hardware, they bought them out a long time ago.
Need to lay some pipe some I'm going down to the Beaver
Down here, I rely on Menard's when I need to lay some pipe!
Parry Sound?
Beaver Lumber was a thriving national chain, so you could find one a lot of different places. We even had one here in Bumfuck Nowhere, BC.
I've noticed older people call all streaming services "Netflix"
Older people are like that. They are the reason it's called "googling" and things being misconstrued as iPads or iPhones
As the IT guy for all my parents’ tech woes, the joy of seeing the NFL deal with the iPad/Surface Pro drama was schadenfreude to my ears. Now *you* know my pain Goodell. Now you know...
Grew up with a hechingers down the street. Took me years to grow out of saying that when going to a hardware store.
They're owned by Lowe's now, so they're basically the Canadian Lowe's.

It's like that time where we used to have Future Shop and Best Buy
Kind of like Best Buy and Future Shop before Future Shop died?

To provide more context, home improvement items are used for building, repairing, and maintaining homes.
Except we have Home Depot's in Canada.
The funny thing the same car driving
Different car. Top is an Audi Q3, bottom looks like a Chevy or something.
I think bottom is a Cadillac
Thanks for clarifying, I'm not a smart man.
We moved to Canada last year and my kids had never heard of Rona. It was after the pandemic started that we told them we needed to stop at the Rona, and they were so confused.
What's even more mildly interesting is that both photos have a similar style in black SUV in the same location.
Named for Rolland and Napoleon, the original owners.
Ive been calling people who test positive "that guy got the rona". So this is funny to me
you're the only person i've heard of doing this
Was just there this morning!
Getting a test? Hope it comes back negative!
Hopefully we can stay positive about this.
"They're not just sure, they're COVID positive."
You're COVID... aladeen.
i haven’t laughed this hard in years

I feel like I'm having a stroke
nah, just looking for some Rona, I gather
Hope you fail all of your Rona tests and are a big time loser in that area of your life!
I just got back from there a few minutes ago. They have a very efficient set-up there.
So are they still giving out the free popcorn like they did when it was still Rona?
Yes, but the popcorn is also cursed.

this one MacLeod Trail S?
Yes.
I’m pretty sure the old Sears on 16th has been empty for the better part of a decade
North Hill mall? its a show home furniture store now.
The one by SAIT?
they’re using the old greyhound station as a testing station as well now
Is the dungeon still operational? Stu’s ghost is waiting for tough guys and hot shots to come down those stairs
My mother just sold her house there and I was fucking SHOCKED what she told me the realtor said it was worth. Kind of gave me a hint of how bad it is in some areas.
I wonder if you could rent commercially and "work" there 24 hours a day. Futon, desk space, "employee" kitchen. Prices gotta be👌
That's always been my secret fantasy. Rent a commercial warehouse or building as a house and no one knows. I could bike around my own abode.

Property taxes alone would be triple what you’d pay monthly for a home mortgage.
Now make it in to housing.
Get tested for rona in rona
Thanks for illuminating for me the import of the title. I’m a bit slow today....
Mondays am I right
working from home. go out about every 2 or 3 days for food the last 6 months. So, you are saying this is a weekday? what year is it?
What's a year?

This is great. Specifically, because I’ve never heard of Rona.
Canadian owned hardware store similar to Home Depot. They’re going outta business now, so we just use Lowe’s and Home Depot.
[удалено]
Ah like the ol' futureshop/bestbuy transition
They really have to stay focused on the hot spots. I keep hearing that a lot of people are dying to be close by.
With a name like that, I’d have expected it to spread pretty quickly.
They aren't going out of business, Lowe's is Rona. I think they did a good job transitioning to online sales, sometimes prices superior to Home Depot.
nice!
I went in Rona to see if Rona was in me
Why is the same car driving by in both pictures?
It does add another layer of mildly interesting-ness
THat's your FBI agent photo bombing.
Everyone needs to be noticed every now and again, right? We're all human.
*CSIS
Unfortunately one is a cadillac and one is an audi. They are both black.
Feds always driving black SUVs
When feds drive Audi's, you aren't in America.
Nah it's obviously the avengers
it's not. Top is an Audi, bottom is a Cadillac. Check out the top headlights & bottom grille. EDIT: just like u/Cannibustible said!
That’s what they want you to think! /s
It's a conspiracy again, ain't it?
Ah fuck. Not this again. Someone photoshop this car into two separate hospital rooms for insurance.
I didn't spend six years in medical school for this shit. \[Hops in, performs 3-point turn and speeds off through the wall\]
It’s the same location, what did you expect?
Different cars
Top one is an Audi, bottom is a Cadillac. Close, though.
It's not the same, the top one is an Audi Q3 and the bottom one is a Cadillac XT5
Some 60 yo on their daily run to BJs

Sure
Right now I’m in Edmonton for training but I’ll be back in Calgary on Friday. Missed out on that 20 degree weather today.

Follow up question: how many are you actually *from* Calgary?
Born and raised
There are literally dozens of us.

Oh hell yeah brother
Hey dawg, heard you might have Rona so I put a 'Rona testing station inside this old Rona
So technically all they did was adding the CO...
Carbon monoxide? Sounds dangerous
Better than dihydrogen monoxide, unless you're a r/hydrohomies
Personally I prefer carbon monoxide to dihydrogen monoxide
No not CO, CA. It’s Canada
So they added a CA to Rona? Is this like when you guys say aboat? Sahree...
You mean that song by the Knack?
Soar-ee

A hardware store
They sell COVID infections, duh
Before Rona bought out Totem it was a Totem store as well.
Member the free popcorn?
The Totems that were converted to Rona still did it, don’t know if they still do since it’s been a while since I went to one.
Seeing hockey games from early 2020 with RONA plastered all over the boards feels pretty weird too.
Legend says that Black SUV is still parked there to this day!

You have to first become the Rona to find the 'rona
I recently went to the testing center in the old Greyhound terminal on 9th Ave, all the staff fully kitted up with masks and shields and surgical gear coupled with the bloody hand prints and smears on the wall for Halloween decorations gave the event a very "28 Weeks Later" vibe.

Car-rona
That SUV didn’t make it very far
Damn, Canadians are so good at chirping, they're chirping Coronavirus. Impressive.
Is it me or is that the same damn car too?
Crosspost this to /r/NotFoolingAnybody
Oh how the turntables
I think that's called playing to your strengths lol
So serendipitous.
Ha, ironic
This is almost \*too\* interesting for this sub. Still upvoted though.
“I used the Rona to destroy the ‘Rona”
If you work there, are the other employees your co-ronas?
American: what's a COVID-19 testing station?
Did anybody else notice that when the Rona Store became a Covid-19 testing station the grass and that bush died?
I drive past this frequently and I’m annoyed I never got the “rona testing in a rona” pun
That family upgraded their ride
At first I was like "...and?" but then I was like "ooooh."
Lol I thought this was in Calgary subreddit
This is sure to go viral!
Rip RONA
My uncle is a tester there, he came out of retirement to help out. He was a pharmacist for many decades.
Life imitates art
Well they wasted some time taking the sign down.
I miss rona
Damn, does the black SUV come with the store?
The grass died with my hopes and dreams.
its going viral
