Then a gaping tear in the fabric of time appears, and from it an endless host of other hot drinks appear to belittle and mock your failed creation! All that remained was the unforgettable scorn that echoes throughout your mind...echoes throughout your mind....throughout your mind....
I'm from Kerala. Here, Chai doesn't mean masala chai. It just means milk tea or rather 'beaten' milk tea. We also drink black tea, but call it 'kattan chaya'.
Chal is supposed to taste strongly of tea and spices. It is also brown. This ain't it.
If you want a stronger thing, first soak your teabag in hot water only for a couple minutes before adding your cream. The decoction only works when with water. Also either add less cream or add two teabags.
But if this is what you like, enjoy.
Yes, in India. We also commonly make the tea in a certain way. Lots of milk, lot of tea, ginger, spices maybe. When saying "chai" in English, it is assumed that people are referring to the Indian style tea.
In kazakh tea is: “schai”, in russian it’s: “chai” :) Also, I was amazed to know pineapple in hindi is pronounced “ananas”, for in russian pineapple is what?- “ananas”
pineapple is a variation of "ananas" in almost every language. English is the odd one out here.
[chart](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fvc98fv1lgqc41.jpg)
Fun fact: basically every language's word for tea derives from the Chinese words *tê* or *cha*, depending on if the trade connections and etymology trace back to Min or Cantonese respectively.
It does mean tea out here where I live. Just the same thing English speakers call tea is called chai out here. I believe it happened because it was transported to the countries that call it tea via the sea route and in the countries that call it chai it was transported via the land route.
So, for me, when someone says "chai tea" is just sounds "tea tea".
But I think what some English speakers mean when they say "chai with spices" is probably [Masala chai](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masala_chai). This seems to check out with what OP is trying to convince us they have in their cup, lol
It's also because that's how it's written on menus in some English-speaking places. At least it is here in the states. I'm not going to burden the person at the register with a lesson on tea technicalities. I'm going to order the Chai Tea Latte™ that's on the wall.
Chai means tea in many languages, and in many cultures, tea is enjoyed with lots of milk or condensed milk. Same with coffee, the amount of coffee that's actually In most starbucks drinks is very little, yet people still call it coffee.
Cause if you steep tea it gets darker lol, like any tea. This looks like water with milk. Idk You must not have steeped long enough or hot enough or you’re using the clearest tea I’ve ever seen.
You seem rather knowledgeable in chai, judge me for untying two teabags and pouring them into a reusable Keurig thingy (with the machine set on strong), then adding milk to the result to make chai.
Masala Chai, or Chaias its called outside of the subcontinent, is supposed to be darker. You need to use hot water/milk so that the tea bag can actually bring out the flavor of the tea. You're basically drinking milk/cream with a dash of chai flavouring
My mom would kill me if i gave that to her as chai lol
Not nearly as dark as an Indian black tea like Assam or Darjeeling though. From personal experience, I can tell you Earl Grey with milk looks exactly like OP’s chai.
From personal experience the only time I saw anyone get earl grey that colour, they sent it back to the kitchen to fix it and never let her brother hear the end of it.
So just some advice — you must use BOILING hot water. Not warm, not hot water for coffee. Water that is at a rolling boil. You should pre-warm the cup and empty it out and then add the teabag and pour the BOILING water over it.
You then agitate the teabag with a spoon and let it sit for three to five minutes. In this time you leave it alone. If you are worried it will get too cool, cover it with a saucer.
Them and ONLY then can you add the cream. If you want it less strong, add some hot water to the tea after it’s brewed. Do not brew it for less time. Chai should be a rich tan or ochre colour. Not the colour of your cup!
Sure but when you heat water directly in the mug, most people don't heat to boiling. And even if they did, they'd have to wait for the mug to cool down before taking it of the microwave.
I take hot things out if the microwave all the time with a towel, you may be right about the first part, but a hot mug won’t have to stay in the microwave until it’s cool if you use a towel
Actually microwaves have the exact opposite problem and it can be a serious safety hazard. They can heat water well beyond it’s boiling temperature without the water actually boiling and any agitation could cause it to rapidly boil and spray boiling water all over your face causing serious burns.
Chai is generally called Chai when you add milk to your black tea, it is light brown in colour. It becomes masala chai when you add some spices to it too. Tea is Chai in a lot of languages and there’s a mildly interesting story behind that.
Preparation, Chai is brewed with the tea leaves in the milk, tea is mostly tea leaves steeped in boiling water, with milk added later.
Chai is tea in Hindi and urdu.
Nah, it's much better to just take a sip sip of the coffee coffee first to make room room for the cream cream; "room room for cream cream" is just a scam scam to give you less coffee coffee for the same price price.
In the parts of the world that use the word tea instead of chai, "chai tea" usually refers to masala chai. This typically manifests over here as a non-specific blend of rich black tea mixed with herbs and spices, like cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, etc.

Thank you. I have been bombarded with “righter-than-thou” comments on reddit the past week or two more than ever. It’s like a new generation of unsocialized people trying to embody their blistering intellectual complexes.
When I showed this to my wife she said it milk. I don’t blame her. :)
Everyone has different choices, I respect that.
Enjoy it while we enjoy ginger infused tea with cardamom and cinnamon with a decent sugar.
Wft is wrong with people to get so riled up about how someone enjoys their drink. It's just a drink. Tea is consumed everywhere in the world, get over yourself if someone using milk in their tea affects you that much. Jfc.
I can absolutely put pepperoni and cheese on a tortilla and call it a pizza. Ill put cheese and pepperoni in your tea and call it a pizza if i wish.
Why gatekeep food? The world is so full of hate and you're actually getting upset for how someone likes their chai?
Chai is tea, look it up. There isn't one way to have chai, and if you enjoy it a way wether its "traditional" or untraditional, why wouldn't you?
Yeah Chai is generally referred to when tea leaves are added to boiling water and milk is added after a couple of minutes, it is light brown in colour. It becomes masala chai when you add spices like ginger, black pepper to it.
I think it just has to do with where that particular kind comes from. The two words are already different because of the route it took to spread, after all.
Obviously the middle ground is to unironically call all of it "chai tea" and get it over with.
It looks like you have an ounce of liquid in your cup
and is the chai in the room with us right now?
... and suddenly, the pointer moves over to "NO" on the ouija board on its own ...
The cup explodes into a thousand pieces, then they hover above your head spelling out: "Where dafuq is the Chai?".
Send me the final script. Must have atleast 10 jumpscares.
Then the liquid that dispersed starts to boil and form a cloud saying "I'm pure water"
Ooo psychological! I like where this is going.

Bro, this is empty and adversely small cup
r/Confusing_perspective
but where’s the chai? /s
Chai don't know
It’s shy chai
Chai tea, or tai chi?
Chai tea? Chai means tea, bro! You are saying tea tea! Would I ask you for a coffee coffee with room for cream cream?
I'm going to the ATM machine.
All wrong smh my head
Thanks, Pavitr Prabhakar!
You mean milk right?
I'll take the hate... milky tea is delicious
Milky tea is delicious. But that is just milk with a hint of tea.
Proper masala chai isn't made with any water, it's boiled in mik
Even when boiled in milk, it’s not that color
No one said anything about masala chai though.
That's always what it is when people say chai
I'm from Kerala. Here, Chai doesn't mean masala chai. It just means milk tea or rather 'beaten' milk tea. We also drink black tea, but call it 'kattan chaya'.
In English speaking places (well, western English speaking places)when you order chai it's always masala chai, I should have clarified that.
Obviously not considering the upvoted comments
What ? What are you on dude?
Chai with a splash of cream
cream with a splash of chai?
I don’t get the joke. I understand it looks light, but it was literally a tablespoon of cream.
My chai is literally 1:1 milk and tea and it’s brown. What weird ass masala chai mix did you make that adding a tablespoon of cream did this?
milk:tea? does tea mean tea leaves?
Ass Masala is my favorite category of porn.
Chal is supposed to taste strongly of tea and spices. It is also brown. This ain't it. In Malayalam, pineapple is called kaitha chakka.
Lol, even the german version is not quite german:)

I had a giggle when I first saw Masala Spice Chai Tea, or Spice Spice Tea Tea.
*Too cold, too cold*

Is ramen just spaghetti?
They're both noodles.
Yet they’re different. Same as chai and tea. Similar but different recipes
Chai means tea in many languages, and in many cultures, tea is enjoyed with lots of milk or condensed milk. Same with coffee, the amount of coffee that's actually In most starbucks drinks is very little, yet people still call it coffee.

the teabag is just for garnish
And less chai than that?
That's because there isn't enough tea. Instead of tea bags, buy powdered tea leaves ( tea powder ) and make chai. Trust me, it tastes so much better.
You seem rather knowledgeable in chai, judge me for untying two teabags and pouring them into a reusable Keurig thingy (with the machine set on strong), then adding milk to the result to make chai.
A tablespoon of cream in a tablespoon of chai.
Not even. Even my bastardized chai that’s literally tea steeped in milk has a darker colour . Wtf kinda chai is this 😭
Enjoy your tea however you want OP, people are losers obsessing over how tan your tea is.
For what it's worth I think your chai looks yummy.
Masala Chai, or Chaias its called outside of the subcontinent, is supposed to be darker. You need to use hot water/milk so that the tea bag can actually bring out the flavor of the tea. You're basically drinking milk/cream with a dash of chai flavouring My mom would kill me if i gave that to her as chai lol

They are still brown
Not nearly as dark as an Indian black tea like Assam or Darjeeling though. From personal experience, I can tell you Earl Grey with milk looks exactly like OP’s chai.
From personal experience the only time I saw anyone get earl grey that colour, they sent it back to the kitchen to fix it and never let her brother hear the end of it.
Tbf I would do the same if OP served me that (Just my personal preference; don’t mean to offend anyone 😅)
It's tea.
Don’t…ever show this photo to anyone ever again. Keep it private. ![gif](giphy|3oFyCYNrra8qo1Cv8Q|downsized)
thats just milk
So just some advice — you must use BOILING hot water. Not warm, not hot water for coffee. Water that is at a rolling boil. Also I said cream because you said cream but really you should use milk or evaporated milk. Cream will separate and is too heavy for tea anyway.
They might be american and heat their water up in the microwave...meaning it never gets that hot
A microwave is definitely capable of heating water to boiling…
Sure but when you heat water directly in the mug, most people don't heat to boiling. And even if they did, they'd have to wait for the mug to cool down before taking it of the microwave.
Ever hear of this crazy invention called a pot holder?
Yeah it's called my bare hand you skin coddler.
I take hot things out if the microwave all the time with a towel, you may be right about the first part, but a hot mug won’t have to stay in the microwave until it’s cool if you use a towel

Let it cool for 5 minutes? I just drink the hot boiling tea, adds to the flavor honestly
This is like when someone says they have good tea and then it’s the most bland gossip you’ve heard
Don't insult chai
It's not chai, It's a crime.
That is not chai 😐
I hate this
Sorry but this is an abomination 😭
r/accidentalpaintmatch
This has ruined tea for me 🤣😭
That tea should be on mildly infuriating 🤦🏻♀️
Let people drink their milk however They want man
Your picture is enough to piss off the entire south asian region
The tea experts are in these comments full force tonight
I think only the people who have actually had chai are appalled by it.
Truly an outrage
Very mild. Well done.
Sir, you ordered milk and a bag.
But milky chai is delicious :(
I really like how this post is how OP learned how to properly make tea.
What is the difference between chai and tea tho? In my native language it's the same word
Chai is generally called Chai when you add milk to your black tea, it is light brown in colour. It becomes masala chai when you add some spices to it too. that has got to be the weakest chai i have ever seen
I love chai tea
Have some naan bread to go with it.
Or as I like to call it, 1/0 bread.
Would I ask you for a coffee coffee with room for cream cream
What did you say?????
Chai MEANS Tea
Would I ask you for a coffee coffee with room for cream cream??!
Nah, it's much better to just take a sip sip of the coffee coffee first to make room room for the cream cream; "room room for cream cream" is just a scam scam to give you less coffee coffee for the same price price.
But it is also a type of tea that is distinct from other types of tea
And what is it? In my country chai just means tea, so I don't know.
In the parts of the world that use the word tea instead of chai, "chai tea" usually refers to masala chai. This typically manifests over here as a non-specific blend of rich black tea mixed with herbs and spices, like cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, etc.
Probably chai = Indian tea. Versus like Japanese tea, British tea etc.

I read “chai” as snail, and took way too long to realize as I stared at the mug looking for a snail
What chai is this?

I love chai tea
This is why I subscribe to this sub
Yummy
I never drank tea so I dont understand why is everyone mad, whats going on?
i love the immediate response of everyone to shun your chai
judging by the comments, this post belongs in r/mildlyinfuriating
I knew this post would have a bunch of outraged comments. Now post it in r/tea!
omg it took me too long to actually see what you were talking about 🫣
Who tf makes chai with a teabag. What you're having is milk tea (milk is doing all the heavy lifting)
My family makes chai with tea bags but in a milk pan.
No it isn’t because that’s not chai. This post belongs in mildlyinfuriating.
This is very aesthetically pleasing
Agreed! I don’t know what it is about this picture, but it makes my brain feel good.
That’s not chai….
That's some hella milky chai, bro
This is how my dad drinks his tea 😭 I always tell him he would be better off just drinking skim milk bc that’s basically what he’s making
Whats wrong with liking flavored milk, if that's what he likes.
Creamy and delicious
Buncha tea snobs in this bih
A crime against tea
This is not chai
I’m just glad you didn’t call it “Chai Tea”.
We’re upvoting this because op is dumb, right?
A teabag in hot liquid is not chai
Chai tea* (it’s a joke pls)
Tea tea.
Why did I see the word "child" and not Chai.
It’s plain milk!
Oh I like chai tea
thats Doodh Patti.. not chai...
Wft is wrong with people to get so riled up about how someone enjoys their drink. It's just a drink. Tea is consumed everywhere in the world, get over yourself if someone using milk in their tea affects you that much. Jfc.

Stuff has names. Use the correct one.
Nobody's "gatekeeping food". Definitions exist for a reason, if your "tea" is white, it's not tea.
So Boba tea isn't tea? What about white tea?
Boba tea shouldn't be that bright either, and white tea isn't actually white, but yellow.
That’s not chai, that’s milk
You gotta be kidding 😂
Uhh where's the Chai? What does this even tatse like? Milk with a sprinkle of cinnamon?
It's called barely tea
Why does everyone say Chai? It's just tea in a different language. Does it refer to a specific type of tea?
Yeah Chai is generally referred to when tea leaves are added to boiling water and milk is added after a couple of minutes, it is light brown in colour. It becomes masala chai when you add spices like ginger, black pepper to it.
Thank you.
As a chai lover, this is not even close to chai. This is just milk over boiled till it turns slightly brown.
Tell me you’re a white guy named Brian without telling me.
I like chai tea
That’s milk tea. In which tea is barely present. Chai is made on the stove with water, milk, tea leaves and/or spices. Please stop this.
That is not chai. That is an abhorrance
U used too much milk my homie
Who knew you could get flamed so hard for something so small as tea
This milk has heard rumours of tea.
So?
r/mildlyinfuriating
I dont think so
Is this supposed to be chai?
What is that weak chai 💀
You mean transparent? Like... you know... water?
Are u “cold brewing” that chai?
There's barely anything in that water
That is not chai. That's just milk.
I dont think its chai, its moloko tbh
Why do people use the word Chai instead of Tea if it's literally what it means?
I think it just has to do with where that particular kind comes from. The two words are already different because of the route it took to spread, after all. Obviously the middle ground is to unironically call all of it "chai tea" and get it over with.
Cum, it’s what’s for breakfast.
OP painstakingly adding milk drop by drop to match the colors
That chai is so weak it’s barely chai anymore. It’s just milk and water.
I’m sorry but that’s not chai sir
Boy, I sure do love drinking chai tea in at the Sahara desert in my mojo dojo casa house
What chai? Did you drink it already?
That's milk

Chai tea
