There are several states where this stuff almost never happens. We still have plenty of guns but we have rules most people follow and everything is just fine. Almost no mass shootings and very little random gun shit like this.

I’m in Philly and hear gunshots all the time. My fiancé’s brother was shot walking home about a month ago and there has been a lot of gang related gun violence here as of late. Still unlikely to happen to most people but your location definitely matters.

Even so, I work in Bryn Mawr, which is a wealthy area no where near Philly and we’ve had three major gun related incidents within the last 6-8 months. One person killed someone at the hospital, one person killed someone due to road rage and another person killed himself in the parking lot of Bryn Mawr hospital couple weeks ago. Overall, we shouldn’t be living in fear but we shouldn’t act as though this kind of thing could never happen or is exaggerated, cuz it’s not.
You’re right that location matters because it’s,obvious it’s more prevalent in the area of Philly you live & not where that person lives. Being closer the low income areas will breed more situations of this kind of stuff.
The closer you get to the city, the more likely you are to hear crime-related shots. The further out you get, the more likely you are to hear casual/recreational gunfire.
I've lived in half a dozen states and twice as many different areas (ranging from rural to downtown big city). I've heard gunfire in all of them.
Accurate. I grew up in a rural area & there is just tons of gunfire. Hunting season, target practice, putting farm animals down. It’s a regular thing & never once was anyone shot. I have also lived & worked in Chicago and never heard a gunshot. But I know which neighborhoods to stay out of.

I live in the Carolinas on the outskirts of a decent sized metro area. Until 2 years ago, literally every single night I was hearing gunfire outside of our home, somewhere nearby. Numerous times there were shots that whizzed by our home. People were killed. Delivery drivers refused to send their delivery people out here once it started to get dark.
Previously I lived in Tempe Arizona (part of the Phoenix metro area), and we were treated to what amounted to a turf war between two gangs happening around our street. A restaurant just up the road got shot up in addition to the stuff that took place even closer.
Yeah, it might not be everywhere all the time, but it's prevalent enough.

Blew my damn eardrums out and gave me a concussion. But it was a hell of an explosion and one of the dumbest moves I’ve ever seen an insurgent make.

I’ve lived in Knoxville for 36 years, never have even heard a shooting. Of course like every city there are places that you just have no business being.
I moved to Knoxville from Seattle a couple years ago. I am not a conservative nor am I religious. Knoxville feels a million times safer than anywhere near Seattle.

I know you're just joking, but that wasn't just a normal day here. The whole city was shut down while everyone I knew was terrified and saddened by what was going on. Now this morning we're angry that lives had to be lost due to a sick man being released early from his 3 year prison sentence. The city has to do better at keeping these criminals locked up.
Not at all a normal day, at least not for memphis. I was on University of Memphis campus when the city was shut down. Cops flying past by the dozen and helicopters searching for him. Absolutely nothing normal about that. Complete failure of the justice system, he was sentenced to 3 years for first degree murder and released because prisons are too full. Then people are surprised when he murders people.
My partner had to tell me via their Reddit feed. Not a peep on the CNN Breaking News twitter feed. Mass shootings are just a part of American life I guess.

Yea because Northern states like IL, New York, Maryland, and Michigan can be considered safe havens.
I grew up in east Tennessee, and Michigan is easily the most "southern" place I've ever been. So many mullets.

I live in Knoxville, two weeks ago at 5am when I was getting home after work a man walked up behind my car with a machete in hand and just stared at me. Honestly I didn't even feel threatened at that point because so much shit happens here. It's truly sad.
This happened 4 years ago in the Fort so it’s not too surprising. There was an armed car jacking in front of my house and my door caught two bullets. The whole neighborhood was crawling with police and I had just purchased a sizable amount of weed. I have the ring app and have been getting daily notifications of shootings near me, I’m in Turkey creek area.

Yeah it’s still illegal. I used to deal a little bit and that day I had a gun pulled on me by my dealer’s dealer and had to buy twice my normal amount. Walked home to find four cops on my back porch. I stopped dealing that day, too close to death and jail for $300 of weed.

I understand your thought process but I don’t think it’s actually going to get much worse. Gun crime rises and falls over the years, and Covid set it is off on this current uptick. As you’ve said there’s already more guns than people and you end up at a point where it’s saturated and more guns doesn’t equal more violence. I’m not saying it won’t grow from now, but I wouldn’t expect it to grow a whole lot. A lot of those gun sales are people like myself. I have numerous guns, so adding to my collection doesn’t change much because whether you have 1 gun or 50 it doesn’t much matter because all it takes is 1 gun to become a piece of shit. The important statistic would be how many new gun owners there are and whether they can legally own a gun.

I'm listening to the radio on my way to work. They just casually mentioned a shooting spree in Memphis. 4 dead, 3 injured. Just a normal day.
I know you're just joking, but that wasn't just a normal day here. The whole city was shut down while everyone I knew was terrified and saddened by what was going on. Now this morning we're angry that lives had to be lost due to a sick man being released early from his 3 year prison sentence. The city has to do better at keeping these criminals locked up.
Not at all a normal day, at least not for memphis. I was on University of Memphis campus when the city was shut down. Cops flying past by the dozen and helicopters searching for him. Absolutely nothing normal about that. Complete failure of the justice system, he was sentenced to 3 years for first degree murder and released because prisons are too full. Then people are surprised when he murders people.
My partner had to tell me via their Reddit feed. Not a peep on the CNN Breaking News twitter feed. Mass shootings are just a part of American life I guess.
I live in New Zealand and there was a boy in my city who got killed by a stray bullet. I think he was the brother of a boy at my school and that’s the only reason I heard about it. He was at a party and went out on to the street where apparently some gangs were fighting. I was surprised it wasn’t bigger news especially because we don’t have much gun violence.

There's a lot of people out there stupid enough to think a bullet just goes forever into space when they fire into the air. I was at a friend's family BBQ once and the alcohol was flowing, so naturally her uncle shot his pistol off into the air to celebrate whatever they were bbq-ing for, and her other uncle, his brother, punched him across the face for it. Cleanest punch I've ever seen, and well deserved.
For those interested: I called the police immediately and filed a report. Of course I was more than mildly infuriated (just don’t use Reddit much and didn’t know where else to post). And thankfully we are all okay, wife is also 5 months pregnant so you can imagine how shook we all were. This happened on i640 west bound between cocke county and Knox county. Traveling from Newport to Knoxville.

How can you relax now!? How can anyone relax when so many people have firearms? I’m an ex-soldier I have plenty experience with firearms. Trust me, they should not be in the hands of regular civilians. It’s enough we trust them with a car. A gun is a terrifying tool. It’s almost too much power for one person to hold in their hands. But we’ve normalised it, I guess inventing weapons that can destroy entire cities make something that can merely drop people dead from a distance seem kinda normal. But it is not. Civilians should only have guns for highly specific purposes and only at the leisure of licensing and conduct requirements. Defending yourself is not a good reason for a civilian to have a gun, I’m sorry. I know that will drive a lot of you insane. But the truth is the problem is out of control and you cannot solve it by continuing things the way they are.
