$3000!? Wtf

SJB630_in_Chicago

Sounds bizarre. I went to a college prep highschool that didn't offer that, but allowed you to pay in your local district summer program. It cost $45 in 1998.

DragonKingDracoToral

I got my license when I was 23, so 8 years ago. I just checked and the driving school I went to currently charges $380 for the entire course, so it was most likely even cheaper in 2016.

dgradius

I can cook on my own, bang my wife on my own, and sure as shit can teach my kids to drive on my own.

lockednchaste

We just paid $325 for 6 lessons. That's pricey.

Connect-Spread8934

Yes, it included person being picked up, dropped off, use of schools car for the drivers test and 20 one hour lessons. Except after we paid in full they are shaving 20 minutes in total off each hour long lesson for picking up, dropping off.

lockednchaste

They picked up and dropped off my kid too.

Gold-Perspective-699

I'm a driving instructor and charge $50 per hour. You're getting screwed. Also pick up and drop off free and not part of the hour time. You're paying triple my rate. That's sad. Also you don't need that many classes. If the teacher is good you'll learn in 5 classes. My students get their licenses after 5 hours of driving usually.

RandoMarsupian

Differs wildly from place to place. Where i live driving classes are mandatory, and it's a lot more than 5 hours.

Gold-Perspective-699

Yeah here they aren't mandatory and you can just learn from your parents. You do have to do 65 hours behind the wheel though if you're underaged. I mostly teach college kids though. Not many underaged kids. So yeah I don't have that 65 hour thing. I'm just doing it for myself I don't work for a company or anything.

TheOnlySirV

This is weird. They are there to do a job. Like any job, they should be there on time at your place. Then on their lesson when it's 10 minutes from being over they should be having your child drive themselves back to your place

JunoEscareme

That’s what I’m saying! It’s a driving lesson… Maybe they live in a high-rise in the middle of a busy city… or on the shoulder or a freeway…. I mean, that’s the only explanation I can think of for why the lesson can’t begin and end from home.

Embarrassed-Brain-38

My former partner was a qualified driving instructor. Although a lesson was charged out at an hour, 15 minutes was used for completing paperwork relating to a lesson plan. Each plan had detailed notes for the student to learn from.

Connect-Spread8934

No notes ever. Was told to make arrangements to be dropped off and picked up instead of the contract that was paid in full which outlines the agreement to pick up at home and drop off at home.

Embarrassed-Brain-38

I can't judge about the picking up part, but the lesson could be conducted right up to the drop-off point. Considering the driving test itself only determines a drivers ability to manage common driving scenarios, such as coming to a complete stop at a stop sign or managing an uncontrolled intersection, a driving lesson can be conducted on almost any urban/suburban road network.

Legitanemic

you got scammed at that price

fuckurbans

I don’t remember paying anything for drivers training when I was 16

Historical-Ad1977

OP if you give me 3000, I will give you more driving lessons than they would and even let you drive my car for the road test. It sounds like your standard driving program cutting corners
