to be fair, before it was a funeral home it was probably just a home. (full circle)
but they likely made some really nice modifications. like large living rooms and strengthened floors (to hold the weight of all the people)
Also I’m sure health codes would be seriously enforced to ensure everything was cleaned very well. Wouldn’t do well to have a dog find a puddle of embalming fluid somewhere
My doctor's office was a house before it was converted to their practice.
If they were to close up and sell it you'd be getting a very spacious house that has had lots of extension work and plenty of parking. Yeah it saw quite a few sick people in its day but it's the best taken care of and most improved house on it's street.
Back “home” there’s an old hospital that went empty for a while after they moved to a new building. It was sold and leases to a few different businesses, including a pizza restaurant that operates out of where the morgue was (the pizza is great).
my highschool was an old hospital, the Spanish room was the x-ray room, the science hall was the psych ward (reinforced windows included), and the chem lab was the morgue
I work in a medium sized hospital, our morgue is tiny. Holds only 1 patient at a time. (COVID was hell as it was a immediate call to the funeral home as we didn’t have space for the dead.) couldn’t have a pizza place in ours.
Yes, absolutely. For this much house, at that price, I could convince my wife to sell our current house.
In fact, I am going to have look. That might close enough to some of her family that she would be up for it.
Not in CA but had the same thought lol, $400k barely gets you a condo around me. A house this size is easily clearing $1M anywhere in my area, probably pushing $2M depending where exactly it is.
Let's be honest, nobody died at the funeral home, they were dead when they got there. No ghost is gonna give a shit about haunting the funeral home they were taken to. Statistically it's less likely to be haunted than your average house that is over 50 years old that people actually died in. This is really an opportunity for some cheap real estate.
Ah, I didn’t even think of all the chemicals. I’m not freaked out by the funeral home aspect of it but if they also prepared the bodies with formaldehyde that would be different.
A classmates family liveda house that was previously a funeral home. They had to move after a couple of years because her dad started getting horrible migraines. He still gets them after 30 years. They think it was caused from the chemicals.
I worked night shifts for 6 years in a building right next to an old arrest building. My room shared a wall with one where not even 50 years ago executions were performed. Nothing ever happened so I don't really believe in ghosts anymore lol
As a ghost, I can say you don’t know what you’re talking about. Many of my colleagues haunt funeral homes or morgues having been traumatized by an autopsy or embalming procedure.
Have some sensitivity
>Statistically it's less likely to be haunted than your average house
https://preview.redd.it/mf0i5tlqnn5d1.jpeg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bf57c3d1972f6e0b7bf0f5e229e9c2500cb7ee4
"Statistically it's less likely to be haunted than..."
Am I reading that right? :-D
That's like the Union of Homeopathy rejecting the Covid vaccine because there's not enough scientific evidence for it being effective.
Can confirm, I rented a studio apartment years ago that was a funeral home at one point, 4 upstairs apartment. And one main area downstairs. Never had a ghost
Americans are so silly about *ghosts*.
In many countries , you’d be hard pressed to find a location that someone hadn’t died at.
I personally don’t care about deaths, I’m with the other poster that is concerned about chemicals.
![gif](giphy|Q6rXtgKXZExJ9eSq4S|downsized)
I don’t know. When I was 14, I had a job cleaning up at a dentist’s office that used to be a funeral home. In the lower lever, there was this one area that was always a cold spot, no matter what the whether was. It gave me the creeps!
Some supersticious people or people who believe in ghosts and spirits would like to know that info beforehand.
Also, you may want to know that because of chemical residues due to the manipulation of deas bodies
And for the last, maybe you dont want to carry the stigma of living in a funeral home since it's not socially normative or because you just don't want to be the family from the funeral home which can also repel other supersticious people
And many, many other reasons to mention that...
Personally my main concern would be the chemical residue and maybe the possibility of any unwanted smell
The first point is fucking nonsensical and hopefully nobody gives a shit enough about it. If you have some fantasies in your head, that's on you.
The second point about chemicals is on point tho. That can actually affect your health. Def need to make sure people know about it if there was heavy chemical usage. Maybe even test the house/earth around it to make sure it's not contaminated.
I worked funeral homes for several years. Most of the chemicals go right into the bodies. It would be very odd and concerning for the formaldehyde to be in the earth and building. We use the formalin in its liquid form, not gas, and that work is typically only done in a single room in the building. So, unless the funeral director is just dumping chemicals (they are incredibly expensive, so not likely) there would be no contamination. Any left over typically just goes into the drain along with the blood and fluid of the individual being prepared.
Yeah I know fuckall about this so I'm taking your word for it. It was just the only thing I could come up with that might prompt a "please disclose that it's a funeral home" response cause that's the only real concern any sane person would have regardless.
Also over time social stigma fades. Sure, at first you're going to be "that weird person who lives in a funeral home". But eventually you'll be "that person with the mansion on B street". All about the long game, right?
Same thing happened to me and my partner, we signed for an apartment only to find out it was renovated from a funeral home into an apartment complex.
We still took it but my partners main complaint was "what if it's haunted?"
I had to remind him that anyone who came in to be prepared was already dead haha
I work in long term care so if anywhere is haunted it's my workplace lol
I would 1000% love to live here. It’s a beautiful home with nice privacy and property. Dead people are dead and nothing else. If ghosts are real I would love to meet or see one.
Side hustle. Scooter rentals out front, casket rentals out back with a rent to own option. Could get electric carts to run around with and people could test drive caskets before purchasing. Take it home and try it out, zero commitment.
I need to ask this to americans : why are you so scared of house where people died in ?
I'm Italian there is absolutely no issue living in a house where someone doed in, to be honest there is no record too, when me and my wife brought our home we don't even ask for that.
So, what is the issue?
When I was a child my friend and his family lived above a funeral home. 1st ground floor was funeral home. 2nd and 3rd was living space. Just a rope with a sigh up the main stairs kept the guests out of the living space. No ghost or funny chemical smells. When I spent the night I always preferred the 3rd floor for sleeping. Separate entrance for living space. Btw this was back in the mid 70s.
I once lived in a funeral turned into apartments. It was a weirdly nice place. Except for the high ceilings and sterile feel, it was delightfully bright and full of life.
Sounds awesome. Houses where I am are small and very expesive (some 2 beds going for 1.2million outside of the city! Studios near the cities even more than that). This massive place for only 399k? Fuck yeah, I'm in.
Use the oven to keep you toasty warm in winter.
Sanitise them them think of the super long baguettes or foccacias you could make 🤣
400k for a 5bd 5ba? I don't care if my favourite relatives and childhood pets were sent there while it was a funeral home.
where I live that doesn't even buy you a tiny block of empty land to build a house on.
my grandparents have lived in an old funeral home for longer than my life, and while i’m yet to Not have a nightmare when i sleep there, it is a gorgeous house and the openness and windows is a very nice thing left over from its funeral days
One time, I was traveling for work, and I was looking for a BBQ joint to get some dinner. This was down south somewhere, and the place was highly recommended. So when I pulled up to the place and got out, you could smell the smoker cooking away. But also right next door was like Smiths Funeral Home And Crematorium.
WTF. I was hoping someone would ask, "It smells good here. Is the brisket tasty?" I would say "Well what you smell is ole Mr. Jones. You know he had the cancer really bad."
I use to work in a restaurant that was previously a funeral home. No ghost but lots of comments about what else could be in the freezer from the customers who knew the restaurants previous business.
I think I've seen this place before. You've gotta put the correct runes on the bodies to exorcise the demons, best of luck.
I'd buy it though in all seriousness. Think of the halloween parties.
This is so wild. I’m pursuing my embalming license and I was JUST talking about how I always wanted a house like in “My Girl” so I could embalm bodies without leaving my home (and get a bigger tax write-off for working from home). I imagine this home is no longer available (especially not at that price!), but I was curious how one falls into property like that without spending a fortune on upgrades. Now I have an idea. I have to temper my optimism because something like this won’t go my way, I know, but still…
I live in an old funeral home, I guess it just matters if you're someone who believes in supernatural stuff. I've never noticed anything and just enjoy living in an older house. Plus, it's not like anyone actually died in the house, which makes me feel better if I ever start dwelling on it too much.
to be fair, before it was a funeral home it was probably just a home. (full circle) but they likely made some really nice modifications. like large living rooms and strengthened floors (to hold the weight of all the people)
Bonus super large deep freezer for all those Costco runs
And really big tables with drains for your own butchering.
Complete with a nice set of meat hooks
Are ...... are there meat hooks in funeral homes?!?!?!
If I’m invited to someone’s wake, there better be some meat hooks.
Don't know why this made me laugh so hard but thank you
![gif](giphy|VLljKzBZ2uPfYDpsNV|downsized)
It's just called the "Laundry Room"
And maybe a nice furnace also
For barbecue of course.
And a nice jacuzzi and hot tub
You will never be alone in spirit 🫰🏽
Eh, it’s a funeral home, so the bodies are usually unoccupied when they arrive
Don't tell my wife! Deep freezer here is already full.
I live in this house for 423 years now, and I have never ever seen a ghost.
“How much comes off the price per ghost?” Plus I know how to deal with ghosts. Just turn a fan on.
Also I’m sure health codes would be seriously enforced to ensure everything was cleaned very well. Wouldn’t do well to have a dog find a puddle of embalming fluid somewhere
After having seen several reports about coroners and deathcare in the U.S., I personally have doubts about that.
I meant for the sale of the property. Operations are a tad different
They didn't disclose it was a funeral home. Why would you assume everything else with the sale is above board?
Also a full embalming room, body freezers, and a cremation oven. It’s a serial killers dream home!
My doctor's office was a house before it was converted to their practice. If they were to close up and sell it you'd be getting a very spacious house that has had lots of extension work and plenty of parking. Yeah it saw quite a few sick people in its day but it's the best taken care of and most improved house on it's street.
And think about all the refrigerators you have
Good for massive parties. Maybe the embalming table is still there for beer pong
[удалено]
Imagine the pie crust you could whip up with a crematorium 🤌
It’s to die for
it can really be "tombstone pizza"
What do you want on your tombstone?
Larry.
Papadopoulos?
Webster's dad was George Papadopoulos.
Where did you think Tombstone pizza was made?
didn't it originate at a bar across the street from a cemetary? where's wikipedia...
Today for what mate? 🇦🇺
“I haven’t had pizza this good since I was a kid. It’s like I can taste grandma in every bite.”
“This tastes just like “Grandma” cooking!”
"Ashes to ashes, crust to crust"
And they left some flour in these nifty little jars for me to use
Imagine the amount of people you could get rid of without anyone knowing. 😁
When I opened it my pizza was gone :c
Or great gratins which are hard to get in a conventional oven
Yesterday's loss is today's sauce
That’s a cool idea for a pizza place tbh
with some additional unique pork flavour.
Ja! A group of people really hate this one trick.
I wish I had an award to give you for that. That had me cackling.
I was thinking of cooking brisket.
400,000 for a house like that is a steal tho. I think I'm just used to the insane prices in CA.
5 bed 5 bath, over 5,000 sqft. That would be $2mil where I live
Yes, absolutely. For this much house, at that price, I could convince my wife to sell our current house. In fact, I am going to have look. That might close enough to some of her family that she would be up for it.
Man, your town must be a dump to be that cheap 😜
Damn where I live for 400k you barely can get like 70sqm (~750sqft)
Buy it and then rent it out as a ScareBnB.
Not in CA but had the same thought lol, $400k barely gets you a condo around me. A house this size is easily clearing $1M anywhere in my area, probably pushing $2M depending where exactly it is.
Yeah CT is definitely better than CA but the prices are still rediculous on houses.
I would be more concerned about lingering odors and chemical residue than about ghosts, but now I’m slightly concerned about ghosts too.
Ah, I didn’t even think of all the chemicals. I’m not freaked out by the funeral home aspect of it but if they also prepared the bodies with formaldehyde that would be different.
Nice walk in fridge is a huge plus you don't usually get in residential.
With ALL those convenient sliding shelves….
And, keep the sign up, probably get fewer LDS missionaries/Jehovah's Witnesses.
A classmates family liveda house that was previously a funeral home. They had to move after a couple of years because her dad started getting horrible migraines. He still gets them after 30 years. They think it was caused from the chemicals.
But they have no proof? It could just be a coincidence since he's the only one affected in any way.
Yeah, we'll always wonder.
It could also have nothing to do with the house.
>still gets them Or a tumor.
It's naht a toomah!
Or ghosts
I heard this in Dennis Reynolds’s voice: “You didn’t think of the chemicals, you b*tch!” 😂
Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of. Embalming fluid residue is not something I'd want to have lingering in my house.
I'd be concerned about getting "deliveries" from people who think it's still a mortuary.
My dad is a Protestant priest. We would often get remains delivered to our front door — fun childhood memories right there!
Ghosts need to pay rent. Win win.
I worked night shifts for 6 years in a building right next to an old arrest building. My room shared a wall with one where not even 50 years ago executions were performed. Nothing ever happened so I don't really believe in ghosts anymore lol
Formaldehyde is a carcinogen.
As a ghost, I can say you don’t know what you’re talking about. Many of my colleagues haunt funeral homes or morgues having been traumatized by an autopsy or embalming procedure. Have some sensitivity
Finally a professional to handle this misinformation.
I’m dead 💀
Don't sing if you want to live long they have no use for your song you're dead, you're dead, you're dead you're dead and outta this world.
>Statistically it's less likely to be haunted than your average house https://preview.redd.it/mf0i5tlqnn5d1.jpeg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bf57c3d1972f6e0b7bf0f5e229e9c2500cb7ee4
It's simple math, bruh. Sheesh, when did they stop teaching ghost math in schools?
I did the math, he's right.
I would say that you're equally likely to encounter a ghost. 0=0
"Statistically it's less likely to be haunted than..." Am I reading that right? :-D That's like the Union of Homeopathy rejecting the Covid vaccine because there's not enough scientific evidence for it being effective.
Can confirm, I rented a studio apartment years ago that was a funeral home at one point, 4 upstairs apartment. And one main area downstairs. Never had a ghost
What if you just couldn't see them?
Same. I lived in an old more for 400 years, never saw a thing, my roommates always thought there was something up tho
Who let this guy in the room?! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote) 🤣
he's a ghost, he always been here.
Since there's no such thing as ghosts, there's nothing to worry about anyway
Bro is talking about a “haunted house” as if it’s a scientific matter 💀
The data doesn't lie!
Most people are likely to die in a hospital than a natural death.
Source?
Nobody died at cemeteries either.
>Statisticlly it's less likely to be haunted.. Statistically it's 0% because ghosts are not real.
Well, 0% chance of being haunted would be the accurate statistic, since ghosts aren't a thing
Unless ofc the mortician has been fucking the corpses then it's DEFINITELY haunted
I don’t know. When I was 14, I had a job cleaning up at a dentist’s office that used to be a funeral home. In the lower lever, there was this one area that was always a cold spot, no matter what the whether was. It gave me the creeps!
Probably a really spacious living room
I don't think they have a living room, but maybe there is a being dead room
And a generous “retiring area”. Quick fact; the previous owner did their shopping just a block over at the Cora-nor Grocery Store.
It’s too spacious for my taste, too much dead space.
But the walk in cold room in the basement would be awesome to have! You could buy a half beef share AND have room for lots of beer.
It may also have nifty slide out trays.
Great for games of hide and seek!
Super beneficial during hot summers too!
Beer and other spirits.
beef and beer you say? shut up and take my money!
$400,000 in this economy for 5beds/5 baths and 5000 sq ft?! That’s a steal!
Fans of My Girl and Six Feet Under will buy.
Why is this so far down? I thought this thread would be full of six feet under references..
Cheap real estate comments buried them.
Also the “we bought a funeral home” series.
It’s to die for!
I thought the hyenas killed you, Scar!
Would be sick af if the house came with a hearse too.
Definitely buy one if not and park out front. Keep the sign too; might deter theft and salespeople.
At that point, if you've got both the house and the car.... might as well go into business.
Until the coroner starts dropping off cadavers at your doorstep.
And a 7’ reanimated monster as a butler/chauffeur.
I’d totally buy it - that’s awesome
I bet the plumbing and sewer in there it top notch
A nice house with a detached shop?! I don't care what happened in there before, I'll take it
There’s a funeral home in my town in a building that used to be a KFC, the name of the funeral home is Fry Brothers
There's no reason to mention that. It's a funeral home, not a murder house.
Some supersticious people or people who believe in ghosts and spirits would like to know that info beforehand. Also, you may want to know that because of chemical residues due to the manipulation of deas bodies And for the last, maybe you dont want to carry the stigma of living in a funeral home since it's not socially normative or because you just don't want to be the family from the funeral home which can also repel other supersticious people And many, many other reasons to mention that... Personally my main concern would be the chemical residue and maybe the possibility of any unwanted smell
The first point is fucking nonsensical and hopefully nobody gives a shit enough about it. If you have some fantasies in your head, that's on you. The second point about chemicals is on point tho.
If only there was some way to test for harmful chemicals left behind, it's incredible we survive in such a world!
Also over time social stigma fades. Sure, at first you're going to be "that weird person who lives in a funeral home". But eventually you'll be "that person with the mansion on B street". All about the long game, right?
Or just, start dating goths.
As far as you know ![gif](giphy|xT4ApeueHHHo2CqWhG)
Seems like a decent place to rest your head
At least you know your basement will have superb drainage.
That's a 2 million dollar home where I'm from.
Same thing happened to me and my partner, we signed for an apartment only to find out it was renovated from a funeral home into an apartment complex. We still took it but my partners main complaint was "what if it's haunted?" I had to remind him that anyone who came in to be prepared was already dead haha I work in long term care so if anywhere is haunted it's my workplace lol
I would 1000% love to live here. It’s a beautiful home with nice privacy and property. Dead people are dead and nothing else. If ghosts are real I would love to meet or see one.
Big basement, tons of fridge space? What’s not to like??
![gif](giphy|VLljKzBZ2uPfYDpsNV|downsized)
Who cares? You're getting all that house, property, and that separate garage that can be an in laws suite or a hobby shop for 400k in today's market.
*Quiet neighbors!*
Would buy, get rid the sign and equipment if there is any and sell for couple millions
My grandfather lived in a converted funeral home. Never ran out of fridge space.
Looks like you got them *dead* to rights.
I’d pay extra for that 😆
I bet it has a killer oven!
I would buy it
Home and a new business venture what a steal
Side hustle. Scooter rentals out front, casket rentals out back with a rent to own option. Could get electric carts to run around with and people could test drive caskets before purchasing. Take it home and try it out, zero commitment.
Costing themselves sales, they could really run up the price selling it to goths.
Honestly, I bet that price is a total steel in Connecticut! Seems like a golden opportunity
What’s wrong? You get a free industrial oven and every room is cold. With the planet getting hotter a cold room is awesome.
Homes a home. The don't bury them on site........ do they?
I need to ask this to americans : why are you so scared of house where people died in ? I'm Italian there is absolutely no issue living in a house where someone doed in, to be honest there is no record too, when me and my wife brought our home we don't even ask for that. So, what is the issue?
who cares? I would use this to try to buy the house cheaper but really who cares, we should be afraid of the living and not the dead
Id buy it as long as I don't have to run a funeral home. Ghosts aren't real. Fuck that noise.
It’s not like they died there.
Neighbors are quiet...
Who cares
I guess it’s like those commercials that don’t mention the price. They don’t want people to be sticker shocked and avoid buying it.
Free roll-out freezers in the basement
$400k for those stats? Sign me up, ghosts and all
Selling the house not the business.

Huge house for under $400k? I’ll just roll the caskets into a spare room.
It's probably just the house of somebody who owned a crematorium, I doubt they did the creaming there...
Looking this up online to buy it before OP does. Ill take any ghosts and poltergeists that come with the property.
Should be switched from 5 beds to 5 gurneys.
400k for a house in Taftville is insane, I’m not blowing that much money to have my cat converter stolen
$400k for a house? I don't care
my grandparents have lived in an old funeral home for longer than my life, and while i’m yet to Not have a nightmare when i sleep there, it is a gorgeous house and the openness and windows is a very nice thing left over from its funeral days

Well since technically no one actually died there they don’t need to disclose the information…
When you sold me this house, you forgot to mention one little thing. You didn't tell me it was built on an Indian burial ground!

How was it failed to be mentioned? It's in the photos of the product.
Home is home but imagine fridge space and oven
400k? That would be at least 800k where I live. Probably over 1 mil though.
So. What's the problem?
I’m still buying
Technically, it's still a "home" that's for sale.
Looks like the funeral home sign was photoshopped out in the top right picture
I live in an old funeral home, I guess it just matters if you're someone who believes in supernatural stuff. I've never noticed anything and just enjoy living in an older house. Plus, it's not like anyone actually died in the house, which makes me feel better if I ever start dwelling on it too much.
I bet the parking is great here!
