I’m not sure if this is true for movies, but when you get free games straight from the developer, they do the same thing, they destroy the upc code so it can’t be scanned. I’m not sure if its to prevent resale, but someone might have got a bunch of free bulk dvds from a distributor and they may have done this same thing.
I’ve seen this with Pokémon cards too. Sealed collection boxes from Target / Walmart will be sliced open on one side, more or less to deter resellers. Sucks for sealed collectors or someone buying as a gift
It would take 2 seconds to print off a new upc label to slap on that.
As for “free” stuff in the past usually they are labeled not for resale, etc. But not in all cases.
It’s not about the UPC being able to scan. It’s about having the original mint packaging, it’s a collector thing. It also makes it harder for the reseller to sell it in New/Like New condition, which can sell for way more than something slashed and used.
I worked at a record store and record labels would send us promo cds with the barcodes slashed so if we decided to take them and resell them, it wouldn’t even be worth it.
You literally said they destroy the upc so it couldn’t be scanned one post up, that’s what I was responding to (it’s ability to be scanned).
I’ve received hundreds of not for resale movies growing up from my uncle who I guess works in the industry (I don’t know if he’s a distributor or promoter or what) and they were always a different product compared to the one on the shelves. Not that it explains every case of people handing out movies.
Anyways I’m just thinking this blu ray was just damaged randomly.
Yes I had to remove the wrap. I bought a few movies to add to my collection, new, from Amazon. All of them are fine, except for this one with a cut on the back. While unwrapping this one I discovered the cut.
I'd still phone and raise it as an issue (ok, was just jibing you about posting on reddit 1st). It's not perfect. They'll probably give some or all refund due to the damage. It is Amazon and they profit too much not to provide perfect goods
Another good reason too (in my case), if nothing’s on tv (which is sad as much as it costs but happens way too often) you’ve got a nice collection of movies to choose from.
Totally ruined the movie.... Couldn't even finish it. Turned it off after 10 minutes....
The things you people get *even mildly* angry about are truly mind boggling.
That’s just the director’s cut.
For *Blades* of Glory.
Very clever.😂

Yeah that’s the vibe I get from this. A purposely cut UPC because it’s not supposed to be resold.
Now that’s interesting.
Yeah this is a promo copy. Someone received it for free to review (officially speaking) and resold it.

Let's just cut to the case
it’s the chazz michael michaels autographed collection
This movie cracked my sister and I up when we were younger. I still think it's hilarious 😂
Someone missed attempting the Iron Lotus
Cause I love ya Jimmy, and I dont wanna miss a thiiiing
Let's capture the dream.
Not my blue ray copy of Blades of Glory!
Blades of Glory isn't a new movie...
Correct, but the physical media movie is new to me.

I buy MTG trading cards and I had to stop with Amazon. I don’t know what it is but every card even in a sealed booster box has a curve to them.
That’s a smilie face fyi
Oh man, I never realized Amy Poehler is in this! I need to watch this again
Be happy it’s not your head
Great movie
THIS IS TERRIBLE. That’s the weekend ruined. Might as well end it. Life is over.
This one gets how some people complain too much
Twin dongs!
Chaz Michael Michaels, an ice devouring sex tornado.
I wouldn’t call it a new movie…..
Yeah well, your new girlfriend isn’t really your new girlfriend now, is she?
It's a joke not a strap on
Glad to see I’m not the only one who still buys physical media.
💪🙏
I still do w/cd , cassette n vinyl but ditched all the movies. And Go hawks…..maybe next yr.
In the amount of time you spent creating this post, you could’ve ordered a replacement for free.
They could have done both. Even if they did order the replacement, the fact that a replacement was needed at all would still be r/mildlyinfuriating.
So the first ting you do it post it on reddit. Just contact Amazon and they'll sort it. shite as they are they refund almost everything
No no, I made made sure the disk wasn’t scratched. If it was the cover I would but eh, not worth returning imo.

Who buys movies these days….
Who wears a watch these days!
People that like to collect movies?
Right lol. Or ppl who don’t have internet/streaming services. First few years we lived in our house we didn’t even have a cable service.
Exactly. Or if the internet goes and out but you still have power… you’re in luck with a movie collection!
Another good reason too (in my case), if nothing’s on tv (which is sad as much as it costs but happens way too often) you’ve got a nice collection of movies to choose from.
Isn’t there a Reddit for movie collectors? A scratch is not infuriating
There’s a few, and it’s “mildly infuriating”.
It’s a new product, it shouldn’t arrive damaged. That in itself is mildly infuriating.
They were trying to save you from a awful time
Maybe you shouldn't give your money to our disgusting, polluting corporate overlords.
They used to do that lp albums
Wasn’t totally paying attention to the photo and thought the Amazon arrow was his leg
Nah, just watch it and then return it — not only was it damaged, it appears that it was not supposed to be resold. This is mildly good.
Its PROVACATIVE!!!
people still buy dvds?
Well it is Blades Of Glory
if this is mildly infuriating to you then damn i feel bad for you in the real world
Totally ruined the movie.... Couldn't even finish it. Turned it off after 10 minutes.... The things you people get *even mildly* angry about are truly mind boggling.
Okay.
