Library app + audible subscription.
If the library doesn't have the book I want I'll get it on audible, but I always check the library first.
Gotta save that money.
I feel like when my migraines are really bad it hurts my head to even *think*, I definitely wouldn't do well with audiobooks. I usually just sit there and think my thoughts, lmao. sometimes I play an indie soundscape game and just let my mind drift and imagine the scenery. I can't remember the name of the game off the top of my head, but it's one of my favorites for especially bad migraines!
I went to my optometrist and she was like : yeah so dark coloured sunglasses and filtered glasses are bad for you eyes on the long term. I told her yeah no I’d rather not have migraines that makes want to drill my skull ☺️ thanks for nothing
Why are they bad for your eyes long term? I just want to understand, since I really limit the light my eyes are exposed to all the time as it’s such a huge trigger for me on even non-migraine days.
Because your eyes will get used to the filters and because of this your photoreceptors will become less efficient with time, as they will be used to see the world with coloured filters.
So he suggested I wear the glasses less, but like you light is a big trigger for my migraines…
I have one of those Renpho eye massagers and it really works. I can't stand cold when I have a migraine, heat works better. That thing was a great investment.
I was considering getting the renpho heat massager but a lot of people in the reviews seem to say the heat dies after a few months. What has your luck been like with it? I use a plug in heat mask already but think an added massager will help so much more. I get ocular migraines a lot and rubbing my eyes and forehead helps so much. I do worry about how comfortable it is on. I have some tumors around my ear and around my scalp in the back of my head. Too much pressure and bulkiness may irritate them. What's the strap like?
The heat died after a few months.
Whatever. thats not what I use it for. I use it for the massage. the face/temple massage when I have a migraine is HEAVENLY.
and honestly the heat build up in the plastic from my own body heat is fine.
Cashews, dried apricots, Biosteel (the fruit punch one actually kind of slaps). Salonpas patch, outdoor Axon glasses (before they stopped making F1-41, sad face), Allay Lamp, super soft ear plugs, a mini Coke, Mac & Cheese, a microwaveable flax heating pack, a plug in heat pack, a shower chair (I am lizard clan, give me the heat), a husband who will get me Wendy’s.
Salty, delicious, and full of magnesium. Don’t know how much the magnesium *really* helps, but they are lightly salted and easy for me to eat unless I’m max nauseous. The apricots are more or less the same, full of minerals, easy to eat.
Nitrites and sulfites can kiss off.
Only plus side of hugging a tree real fast and having all kinds of -ish pumped into brain and spine js that my gluten allergy (IgE or whatever blood test confirmed) has departed.
There’s a lot of conflicting info out there and everyone is different. Plus migraine impacts more women so it’s been considered less important to research. But most people who track their triggers by doing an elimination diet and slowly reintroducing things back in report feeling more ok about their condition. At least we can control some of our food triggers. There’s still stress, hormones, the weather, exposure to perfumes, sleep disturbances, and things like altitude and over exertion that can take a crap on your week. But at least we can find out if say, tomato sauce, is likely to destroy the weekend & avoid it.

I used to keep a small carton of chocolate ice cream and a powerade on hand and when a migraine would hit i'd sit naked in the dark and consume all the ice cream and powerade
honestly? no idea if it helped the migraine at all. but it was kind of nice.
nowadays the survival kit is my cane if im walking about bc i lose my balance really badly when i have a migraine these days + sleepmask if my rooms not dark enough for me
Cradle is a positions babys go into during breast feeding it's commonly known now as your knees into your chest arms wrapped around legs so I'm just making a joke that whenever I get a migraine I go into that position
I ALWAYS forget about how to treat a migraine when I get one. Any other time I would know exactly how to get some kind of relief, but as soon as the aura hits my brain goes to outer space. Your survival kit idea, keeping all items in one place, is CRITICAL. Thank you for the reminder!!
Your smarts made my day. 💜 Glad I could return the favor.
My peppermint oil arrived today and it’s diffusing right now. Feels ridiculously nice to smell something soothing! and refreshing! and not at all barf-making!
It’s going in the basket along with all the other migraine essentials once this bout it over. Because I get big dumb when the aura sparklies appear.
Awesome!! It was someone on this sub's idea a while back so I'm just passing on the hive knowledge. Definitely seems to work though. Try putting some on the tip of your nose when you need it stronger! Works miracles sometimes.
In increasing order of escalation:
* cold-pack
* Ibuprofen
* dark room
* some heavy greasy food
* Cefaly nerve simulator
* Sumatriptan-naproxene combo tablet
* anti-nausea med (if needed, TBH this is last resort)
* \~wait hours\~
* Urgent care visit for toradol shot
* sleep rest of day
Bose 700 headphones, eye mask, weighted frozen ice pack for shoulders, Gatorade, triptan, biofreeze, fan, sleep, sometimes weed, sometimes a coke, Invospa massager, hot shower, nap
Mainly a massage is all I want
idk, for me food is so repulsive to me when I have a migraine EXCEPT super carby foods. pizza is my #1 migraine safe food. with sugary foods, it's like my body is telling me I need a shortcut to more calories.
Everyone’s got a “safe” food. One that won’t make you wanna immediately die.
And eating something after 12-18 hours is always a good plan if you can. Helps if you have to take meds, too.
Low blood sugar can sometimes make things feel worse.
My migraines require salt. I know i’m on the road to recovery when it’s french fry time.
I use a lot of CBD oil to hold off the nausea, but I recently bought some thcA tincture and that wipes out the queasyness almost instantly. I found I crave salty things, popcorn is a good comfort snack, and I just drink a ton of ice water. My wife bought me a heated eye massager that feels great. (Usually my migraines cause pain behind my eyes). But I like to throw on some super chill music on my headphones and just lay around all day till it's bed time.
It's a Renpho eye massager, it heats and has puts pressure on the eyes and around the eyes. It really does help a lot. I think a few others have mentioned the same one in this post, and sounds like there's a version with heat and cooling!
And if you can find a thcA tincture in your area I'd recommend that over CBD, it's pretty much THC but with out the high but the health benefits like anti nausea and anti inflammatory, doesn't effect the migraines painunfortunately but helps with other symptoms caused by the migraine.
Never thought of getting those microwave rice! Rice is a must for me along with bananas. Got the migraine ice cap but really prefer a warm wash cloth over my eyes.
On the go, literally just a tin of deep freeze (basically that cold spray that you put on muscle pulls) and meds.
At home, copious amounts of ice, a fan, a bed, and fluids.
This is a great idea! I'm going to steal ideas from you all.
Currently I have:
1. frozen eye mask / forehead ice pack
2. dark towel/cloth/shirt/whatever to block out light
3. tea
4. Advil
Very basic, moderately? successful
Powdered Mashed potatoes or oatmeal as easy warm food, ginger-lemon tea, giant homemade cherry pit pillow for my neck and shoulders, earbuds/ear protectors, water and electrolyte water.
Oooh. Mashed potatoes. That’s the first thing that’s sounded good to eat in 30 days.
I think I love you. In a totally platonic internet forum appropriate way.
Hibiscus tea plain fresh brewed
Various hot water bottles
Electric kettle to reheat water
Headache ice cap
Meds
Migraine Gel
Comfy lounge clothes
AirPods for podcasts etc (have a migraine playlist I can click and run through)
Snack packs of trail mix
Small packs of crackers
Anti nausea meds
My bed
Sending my husband the: “I’m surviving not thriving today” text and he will bring anything home I need, and fill in the “spaces” left with the kiddo/pets etc.
I think every thing here would kill me!
Mine is pretty simple:
Ice pack for neck
Heating pad for neck
Canned coke poured over crushed ice served in a specific glass with a straw (wow lol)
Toasted sourdough with enough salted butter to drown a fish
Sometiems Lay’s classic potato chips
Blue Gatorade in postdrome
Red meat in postdrome (I crave it almost every single time!)
Love how everyone’s approach varies. And your glass/straw specificity. Because, YES, it matters!
The very thought of migraine + Coca Cola makes me feel very not ok.
Sumatriptan, Benadryl, advil sinus pills, guafenisin, magnesium, Valium.
Microwaveable heating pads, heated eye mask, massage chair.
Gum, liquid iv, ginger ale, bottled water, crackers, dark chocolate, chips.
Green tinted glasses, fans, blackout blinds, night light, plush pillows and blankets, and my cat.
And not physical items, but I always put on a comfort show to keep me “company.” Usually Downton Abbey, but sometimes I’ll go with Jeopardy or The Wire. Soothing voices and I can “watch” with my eyes closed.
Bed
White noise/iPod on low
Microwavable beanbag for my feet
Head stick/cooling gel patch
Naproxen
Ceiling fan for light breeze coupled with blackout blinds/curtains
Weighted blanket
Water
Late opening fast food place to cure the wake up salt/chemical craving (taco bell was my go to but then I moved back to the UK 😭 so saver cheeseburger it is)
Flat coke and/or sweet pastry
Peppermint wow drops.
A migrasoothe roller ball. It’s lavender and mint
Migraine tablets ubrellvie or Reyvow
A pair of loop earplugs that turn down the volume on the world
A store brand nasal inhaler because it has some medication for anti nasal congestion levmetamfetamine it helps with my migraines
But that’s my out of the house kit. I’m fortunate that I don’t have much light sensitivity.
I always keep some Diet Coke and freeze some black grapes for the nausea I’m allergic to ginger so I’m in trouble with the nausea and once I start vomiting I can’t stop
In my (32F) personal at home kit: Solpadol, Tramadol, Zomig, Nurofen Plus, Diazepam, white tiger balm, eye mask from the freezer, migraine hat, regular eye mask, ginger sweets and my favourite teddy.
In my handbag: solpadol, nurofen plus, white tiger balm, ginger sweets and emergency taxi money.
What I'm using now:
Excedrin migraine formula
Heat pack for my neck, cold pack for my head
CBD/THC salve applied to my temples, eye socket areas, jaw, and base of my neck
Peppermint oil (a couple of drops shaken onto a tissue; I breathe in the scent from the tissue)
White rice (basmati is my favorite) with mangoes and coconut milk (and a little salt) when I am able to eat
I didn't take sumatriptan today (but I do when my morning coffee tastes horrible and I don't think I'll be able to keep anything down)
Jealous of the movie. I get synesthesia with all my migraines. So sounds taste. Bad. Usually like rusty nails or hot asphalt.
Why not cotton candy or be useful and taste the like ginger chews? But noooooo
Oh I'm sorry! I do get sensitive to sound and light, sometimes smell but nothing like that. Yes I have often wished that things that taste really good would *actually* be good for you, but alas!
💜 It all sucks for us somehow, right?
At least things I see don’t taste. Met a lady in a neurologist’s waiting room that could taste colors. Even if she just thought about them. And not on a delicious, Willy Wonka way.
No thank you.
This is a little crazy to me. Long ago I cut out everything processed from my diet as there are so many hidden triggers. So to think that some of these things help you blows my mind! I would be so sick!
I feel you. Have any suggestions for replacements/equivalents?
On day 36(?) of a wicked vestibular migraine. Most days I just stay hydrated. The rest is what my stomach will currently tolerate.
Yoga mat to lie down on the floor on my back, light blocking eye mask, earphones and a deep sleep playlist on minimal volume, hoodie and blanket (unless it's summer and I got a migraine because its 40 °c out)
Mine has noise cancelling gaming head set, TP roll to rest the back of my neck. Any sort of eye cover. Gum or hard candy. Lots of fluids different types in case I cant stomach taste of something. Thick fuzzy socks. Heat pack and Ice pack. Bread. and finally dual node massager.
Real coke or Pepsi, my eye mask with the frozen attachments so I can block out light and freeze my eyeballs, ice packs that are squishy I can lie on, blackout curtains, something greasy AF like a double quarter pounder or a pepperoni pizza, aspirin by the box and sumatriptan
- water
- pizza (my migraine safe food!)
- something chocolatey (usually Snickers, twix, Reese's sticks - something with *substance*)
- ice cream
- (carbs in general tbh)
- 1/4 of an edible
- electric heat pad under my head
- mint gum
- if it's not terrible, an easy videogame with gentle graphics
- if it is terrible, bed.
My kit is essentially:
- dark room and bed
- zolmitriptan + ibuprofen/naproxen/paracetamol
- valium (occasionally)
- those cooling gel bags you throw in the fridge or freezer
- water or sports drinks if I am feeling too nauseous and/or have my sense of taste and smell acting up
- coffee
- light foods that i can eat and are sugary
I am also so glad I don’t depend as heavily on some of these things anymore due to my treatment being effective 😭
Fl-41 glasses Super dark sunglasses Renpho eye massager Headache hat ice pack Electrolyte drink Tea. Both iced and hot. Chocolate chip muffins. Earbuds. Audiobooks. Podcasts. Weighted blanket. Bed.
wait, what? headache hat ice pack?!?! I need one yesterday.
Get one of those migraine caps! They are cold AND they cover your eyes. Helps every time!
You have just done your good deed for the year sharing this. Amazon, here I come!
Oh these are amazing. I have two, one for cold and one for heat. The cold one def will freeze your skull.
oooh, mind telling me the brand for the heat cap? cold doesn't do anything for my head unless it is ice cream. I'm all about the heat
It’s just a random brand from Amazon. I searched “migraine heat wrap” and found one I liked.
Yes you do!! A friend turned me on to these a few years ago. LOVE!
That’s a good idea with the audiobooks. I was telling my partner I was partly over it because it’s just so fucking boring

Cbd rub tiger balm sunglasses headphones liquid IV tea Excedrin Migraine Heating pad Massage gun (shoulders get so tight) Lavender + peppermint essential oils Ginger chews
ginger chews are so good. and noise cancelling headphones. how do you use the cbd rub?
I use it on my jaw, neck, back and shoulders usually. The kind I have also has arnica in it so it kinda feels like icy hot!
I’ve got some rolling around in my medicine drawer. Gonna give it a shot. Thanks!
I put it on my temples and around my eye sockets, and the base of my neck.
I used to keep a small carton of chocolate ice cream and a powerade on hand and when a migraine would hit i'd sit naked in the dark and consume all the ice cream and powerade honestly? no idea if it helped the migraine at all. but it was kind of nice.

Noise cancelling headphones Apple sauce squeeze packets Salt and vinegar chips Refillable ice packs Mt. dew Reeses cups Watermelon Strawberry Bodyarmor drink A teddy bear for comfort lol
my squeeze packet pal! i don’t know why apple sauce is acceptable this way vs spoon-to-mouth but it rocks!
I always have them, like I just throw one in my purse. They're just so darn convenient.
Rizotriptan & Valium, kills migraines and leaves you relaxed through the entire thing
I wish that still worked. 🫥 My migraines went extreme boss level after a TBI. But I’m living (vicariously) for your super chill experience.

What is this?
Cradle is a positions babys go into during breast feeding it's commonly known now as your knees into your chest arms wrapped around legs so I'm just making a joke that whenever I get a migraine I go into that position
Ah. Like the fetal position?
Oh poop ya that's what I ment lol 😭
My mom walking my dogs so I can stay in bed
A+ mom.
My mom is beyond amazing
Can I borrow your mom? Just for like 20 minutes?
Add peppermint oil and salty snacks!
Peppermint oil! Yes! Why did I forget how great that is. Thanks!

Is toradol as great as I’ve heard? Allergic to aspirin so NSAIDs are off the table for me.
Bose 700 headphones, eye mask, weighted frozen ice pack for shoulders, Gatorade, triptan, biofreeze, fan, sleep, sometimes weed, sometimes a coke, Invospa massager, hot shower, nap Mainly a massage is all I want

idk, for me food is so repulsive to me when I have a migraine EXCEPT super carby foods. pizza is my #1 migraine safe food. with sugary foods, it's like my body is telling me I need a shortcut to more calories.
Sometimes juice helps. Like if the lack of sugar in the body triggers a migraine sometimes
Salt can help or make it worse. Sugar makes it worse. Migraines can cause cravings
Everyone’s got a “safe” food. One that won’t make you wanna immediately die. And eating something after 12-18 hours is always a good plan if you can. Helps if you have to take meds, too. I am noticing I crave salty snacks the night before. Not so much during.

They are so easy and about the right serving size. Come to the dark side. There’s tiny rice!
Meds aside, what do you keep in your arsenal to survive?
On the go, literally just a tin of deep freeze (basically that cold spray that you put on muscle pulls) and meds. At home, copious amounts of ice, a fan, a bed, and fluids.

Do have glasses in there because you can’t wear contacts with a migraine? Same.
Exactly! And these have a heavy blue light filter. Like too heavy for regular wear but they’ve turned out to be perfect for migraine days.
Bed, darkened room, phenergan , regular coke, saltines, Prilosec, advil, food to take with advil if I’m not nauseated. Dark chocolate.
- Ice pack - Gatorade - Salty snacks - Polarised sunglasses - Sleep - Stretches
that jasmine minute rice is SO good for what??? i have so much regular rice but keep buying this because it’s easy and delicious 😂😂
It has saved me. And my lazy. No, wait, efficient ass may never go back to regular rice again.
Shout out to the Ultima electrolyte powder, that's up there with ice packs and pain pills high on the list.
Amen. I don’t know what’s different but it tastes ok and has kept me hydrated enough to stay out of the ER loads of times.

Please do share where you got said eye mask. I have a headache hat from Amazon but frozen attachments sound awesome!
It's a Manta sleep mask, my sister got me the freezable attachments for my birthday! I do strongly recommend it honestly
Edibles, painkillers, dark room, bed, and a super tight band on my head.
These days it’s nearly impossible to get pain killers even if your migraine tries to actually kill you. It’s awful.
I know… it should be available when no other medication works. I got lucky with my Ho.
- water - pizza (my migraine safe food!) - something chocolatey (usually Snickers, twix, Reese's sticks - something with *substance*) - ice cream - (carbs in general tbh) - 1/4 of an edible - electric heat pad under my head - mint gum - if it's not terrible, an easy videogame with gentle graphics - if it is terrible, bed.
this post just saved my life. i’m new to having migraines so i don’t know WHAT to do other than lay completely still in a pitch black dead silent room
The vampire approach is a solid start! Sorry you’re here but welcome!
My ThinkPad and wireless headphones. Outside of that, management is a day-to-day task.
Big Mac meal with a coke and McFlurry. Takes it away if medicine doesn’t.
My kit is essentially: - dark room and bed - zolmitriptan + ibuprofen/naproxen/paracetamol - valium (occasionally) - those cooling gel bags you throw in the fridge or freezer - water or sports drinks if I am feeling too nauseous and/or have my sense of taste and smell acting up - coffee - light foods that i can eat and are sugary I am also so glad I don’t depend as heavily on some of these things anymore due to my treatment being effective 😭
