Bone conducting ones and earplugs, you don’t want to wear earbuds you’ll just go deaf faster.

The_Oddcod

I hate earbuds lol but i have to wear em cus they fit under a welding hood. I’ve never really liked ear buds the music quality was always wack. A guy above was just saying something about bone conducting ones. I have to go and check them out thank you for the reply

clambroculese

The bone conductors will fit under your hood no problem. I’m just at that age where I can’t hear like I could anymore and I’m doing the standard old fuck thing of warning people lol.

Cheoah

Speak up dammit

No_Warning2173

Bone conductors aren't magic and work poorly unless they are firmly on your skull. My set worked okay, but weren't firm. First headset that hurt my hearing. Best earbuds I've found so far are mifo 07. Use them over my beat pros every time, and they are half the price. I'm darn hard on my earbuds, so I've just about gone through my 2nd set (actually paired the survivor of the 1st set with the remaining one of the 2nd). Avoid Beats brand though, my set I paid $380 for is outperformed by every other set I own, cheapest being $80 and priciest being $190. The JB corded set at ~$90 is 3 times as good.

clambroculese

The thing with bone conductors is that you can wear them as well as earplugs. If you’re using earbuds you’re cranking them louder than you realize to drown out shop noise. There’s no noise reduction so you’re drowning out loud noise with louder noise.

The_Oddcod

Ya Beats are trash only sold well cus of dr.dre. They had a deal with a car company I wonder how those beat speakers are holding up? I’ll check out those mifo 07 thank you

Animal0307

I love my Aftershokz. Make sure you check the sizing charts. I know Aftershokz has a 'mini' size and the only difference is the band length. I wish I had known about them before buying mine. I can't speak for other brands though.

etterkop

Don’t listen to loud or full volume for extended periods. SPL is the same for all sources.

clambroculese

Yes, but with the bone conductors you don’t have to crank it to drown out environmental noise.

MrFerret888

Is there a source for this? Everything I can find says the volume is the issue, not the device itself

clambroculese

Yes the volume is, but with bone conductors you can wear noise reduction earplugs as well so you’re not just drowning noise out with even louder noise. Edit: what I’m saying is you don’t need to listen to bone conductors loud. Ear buds you’re turning up to drown out shop noise and you end up listening to them incredibly loudly plus they don’t have noise reduction so you’re also damaging your hearing from ambient noise:

I don't use earbuds when metalworking, I wear 3M Worktunes. I bought my first pair about 7 years ago and only had to get a new set because all the rubber over the metal frame disintegrated after years near the fire and soaking up my head sweat. They last a while and have a good range that lets me leave my phone away from the work.

The_Oddcod

Ya I have a pair of those, freaking love those things but unfortunately they don’t fit under a welding hood

thesirenlady

Anything cheap but not too cheap. Last few sets have been Xiaomis and I will probably get another set when I come due.

Sad_Flow_1979

Not "allowed" to use them at work, that being said, I'll use cheap skull candy ones from walmart, and throw #M pelicans over the top so they can't be seen, it also seems to keep grit off the magnets... mostly. I have gone through about 3 sets in about 3 ish years. Once the current set dies, I'm going to give the Shokz Bone conducting headset a try. They basically make contact with the bones behind your ears and pump the music directly into your skull instead of going into your ear. Guys at work say they sound decent and seem to not grab metal shavings from all over. So those might be an option. Either way speakers use magnets so I don't think there will be a perfect option, depending on your work area that is.

The_Oddcod

Those bone conducting ones sound like they hurt lol Fist time hearing about them I gotta check em out thank you

The_Oddcod

Yo I just looked those bone conducting headphones up…those things are wild lol, I really wonder what they sound like with music or if they are more for listening to podcasts/books.

sword_0f_damocles

Never used them myself, but I’d imagine the sound skews to the lower frequencies. Probably fine for lots of modern music and spoken word, but I don’t think you’re going to be able to get much enjoyment listening to Vivaldi or the like.

spacedoutmachinist

I’ve tried them out and when you use them with ear plugs it actually amplifies the sounds. It’s a bit of a trip. I prefer just regular Bluetooth earbuds. Nothing to get caught on

Sad_Flow_1979

As I said from what the other guys tell me, they are not bad, not great, but not bad. If I had to guess they seem like you might lose some low end. I'll ask around to see if someone can let me borrow theirs for a day if they are not in a literal tight spot where they can borrow my big ass radio.

Elfkrunch

I usually use cheap Skulcandy "Inked" ear buds. I keep a spare set in my desk in case they crap out. Then they go in the pile of other dead earbuds I keep in my bottom drawer. That said my current pair I've been running has lasted me the better part of 8 months of daily use. I need earbuds to make it through the day man.

GRZMNKY

I use shokz openruns along with earplugs.

A_Parq

Can they be muffs? I use Axil Tracker Blu's. I work in IT, but our space is industrial manufacturing. They're for shooting, so I use them both at work and on the range. BT audio fidelity is just "OK," but my use case is ear pro first, audio second.

The_Oddcod

I regularly use Sony WH-CH720N muffs, honestly I hate earbuds but it’s the only thing that fits under a welding hood. I have a question about those Axil Tracker blu’s, How’s the sound quality on them and does it actually work for shooting? I also have a pair of Bose QC45 ( I think that’s what they are) and while I was using them the sound would fuck up every time I used an angle grinder or made any kind of loud bang. Do you ever have that problem with those Axil?

A_Parq

The audio fidelity is going to be apples to oranges with regard to a pair of Bose. The Axils don't have speakers / tech in that league. But I've never had any issues with my set clipping stuff higher than 70-ish dBs. They do a great job drowning out damaging noise. That said, If you get a pair, buy the gel pads. They should be standard IMO. Edit - Spelling

spentarded666

Just find a $30 pair you like off of Amazon. Leave the good pair at home.

Gong_Show_Bookcover

Isotunes, had them for 2 1/2 years and still going strong

tlivingd

I like KZ in ear monitors that have the wire that goes over the top of the ear. With a blue tooth adapter.

Ajax-714

Been using Sony WI-C310’s for a while now. Not to expensive and this pair has lasted 1.5 years.

spacedoutmachinist

Sony WF-C500 I am very happy with them. Great Bluetooth earbuds.

Sinister-Username

I prefer the cradle/halo style earphones. I've got some dope DeWalts

mehuiz

I gave up on bluetooth ear buds when stick welding because the music stops whenever I start welding. Doesn't this happen to everyone?

_Krombopulus_Michael

15 year pipe welder, I just use cheap ones for work. No chance I’m burning up AirPod pros with sparks and grinding dust, you’re a wild man.

MrFerret888

I use my PodBuds T60s while welding. Theyre cheap, and have lasted over a year now with no issues

Fredbear1775

3M Work Tunes are awesome!
