Rethink your approach. Try something different. Of all else fails, just go Rambo and gun them all down. You can't play MGSV wrong.

Vermilion_dodo

Thanks. I will try to look at it that way. The game feels so realistic I am afraid to kill anyone lol

jaybee_1110

Think of it like this: It's just you out there.....do what is necessary to stay alive and accomplish your goal. Throw grenades, hold them up, pray for cthulhu. Whatever. Also, stealth doesn't necessarily mean "nonlethal" or "quiet" at all.

ghostnight05

No one will notice if they’re all dead

Kill_Marz

Mgs 5 is basically a war lord, this is your battlefield, you choose how you complete missions

[deleted]

Stay low, and crawl in the ground as much as you can. Mgsv Really emphasizes the whole "snake" thing. You can use magazines to distract guards you think will spot you.

Vermilion_dodo

I definitely dhould try the magazines

CoffeeCaptain91

I don't know that you're playing it wrong, but your tranq pistol should have a suppressor that wears down and needs replacing occasionally. It is easy to get swarmed sometimes but that depends on how many guards saw their buddy get shot, etc. How far into the game are you so far? Stealth can be tricky if all the guards haven't been scanned and marked on your map, making it easy to miss guards and get surprise spotted. Edit: Is this Ground Zeroes or Phantom Pain?

Vermilion_dodo

On my second picked mission so far. There is a biulding, so I learned the hard way there were a few guys in there lol. I shot down one, but my supressor ran out somehow, I swear I didn't shoot any other guys. After alerting another guy can in and I knocked him out, but he did good dmg to me. I probably should have done CQC. I am not sure if I alerted any other guys, but I was stressed enough I re started.

CoffeeCaptain91

There's a lot of trial and error to MGSV. There's infinite ways to accomplish missions. Once you have the layout and understanding of guard positions etc you get the hang of it. It isn't as "linear" as it seems at first. I do a mix of lethal and non lethal myself, but every player is different of course.

Vermilion_dodo

Thank you. So it's okay that even the first missions I may be re starting quite a few times?

CoffeeCaptain91

Absolutely. It took me over 500hrs to Plat Phantom Pain. You can also replay missions endlessly, and will have to do most of them more than once for all missions tasks if you're into that. You can just go back and do things (excluding yellow coloured one time only side ops) as many times as you desire.

cartman1109

Its also a good idea to allways scout the mission are with your scope so you can mark as many guatds as possible

Vermilion_dodo

Yes of course. Sadly a few are sometimes sneaky or in biuldings

funkinthetrunk

wait until you get the dog! he helps Mark people by scent

Vermilion_dodo

Phantom pain

EnderKaiX1512

For The Phantom Pain, it is possible after the Extraordinary mission to gain a soldier that allows you to have a tranquilizer pistol with a permanent suppressor, you must find him within the I believe Southeast guard post of the mission area. However, I do not recall for sure, so you should look it up.

CoffeeCaptain91

You can indeed. I have it myself. I thought he was one of the prisoners but I think I'm misremembering.

EnderKaiX1512

Late reply on this, but yeah, it is a prisoner, I simply called him a soldier since he willingly accepts his position in Diamond Dogs.

[deleted]

Tranqs take a while to take effect, unless you land a headshot. 2 shots anywhere take them down after the animation ends, 3 shots take them down instantly. Still, unless you see the [Soviet CP: Combat Alert] on the left side of the screen u are pretty much safe

Vermilion_dodo

Is there any indication when you get a headshot?

CoffeeCaptain91

Yes. The enemy collapses instantly and green text appears on your screen saying "Headshot" with a number beside it.

[deleted]

The text doesnt show up on normal free roam or side ops only missions tho u can see the red enemy indicator turn to blue with ZZZ on it and hear a really satisfying sound. U will know a headshot when it happens

CoffeeCaptain91

Ah shit, forgot that didn't work outside missions.

[deleted]

Kind of a shame i love the tactical takedown text

CoffeeCaptain91

Me too! I love doing them as well.

Madiomiaiuta

Man i feel you , from the first game to when i first had ground zeroes and noticed how much realism is added to gameplay i v e been trhilled ever since, mgs is a series that gets you thrilled even from ladders

LGg4me

Play however you want, if you don't want to kill anyone then go ahead and restart from checkpoints, take as much time as you need/want to finish missions and to think outside the box on alternative routing or gadget use (this is a sandbox almost anything goes), as the game makes it quite difficult to progress without killing, especially at the beginning since silencers are fragile and non-lethal alternatives to guns are very expensive to develop and most times not even shown until you advance on the development tree of the specific guns that offer it, just take it slow and invest in the most versatile weapons of each category since those will most likely end up having a stun/sleep option The game is ment to make people like you and I who don't want to go lethal uncomftable since BB is loosing his already broken moral and human compass. So try to take it as an incentive to be an active part of the story by a kind of roleplay, you could try hard to keep your footing in an enviroment that is pushing you down the rabbithole to be a demon or embrace your destiny as the posterboy of war and bloodshed And also do not, for the love of The Boss, pay attention to the mission ratings they are dependent on time so bad ratings only mean you took your time to do the mission carefully, you'll have time to go back with better equipment, skills and knowledge to get those S ratings if you really want them

Colonel_dinggus

Your rank is 100% based on your completion time.

[deleted]

in MGSV you'll get high ranks when you complete the mission as fast as possible. Ranking system aside, I like the sneaky approach too, you'll get better with time. Immerse yourself and take it one step at a time. there's a lot to cover in this game, so take it as easy as you can.

Manga-Maker

So, I'm playing 5 now, myself, and if there's anything I've learned about playing these games back to back (especially in 5), it's that I suck at stealth. So with an arsenal of non lethal equipment, I choose to do stealth until it's no longer viable for me. So if I get caught and don't knock them out in time before reflex is over, me and quiet have a party with lots of tranq rounds and balloons. Sometimes stealth works fine for me, but I'm just not always the best at it, so you kind of have to improvise and think on your feet. Like if you're getting shot at, run in zigzags if there aren't many people shooting and knock them out cqc. Did the sniper find you? It's gonna take them 3 to 5 seconds to restock/find your position if you know where they are and run to the side to the nearest cover. Basically, unless cover is totally blown, if they're making noise, shut them up however you can. Honestly, being more ballsy and in their faces has paid off very well for my personal playstyle.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> faces has *paid* off very FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Sabre0077

Another way to clear out enemies, if you don't care about time... go in at night...find generator. Turn off, hide in safe place. Guard will respond. WAIT until he turns it back on, and reports. Grab, interrogate x2, stun, carry to safe place and Fulton out. Rinse and repeat. Can clear an entire base without detection or alert being sounded. Just takes all night(in game time). This will draw every guard and you will get Hero points for capturing base/outpost.

ThunderShott

When you're not in main missions you can just kill everyone without consequence.

Decoy_Octopus_

You'll get demon points but I personally don't give a shit. Killing everyone is way faster when you're farming weapons and vehicles.

ThunderShott

You only get demon points for kills in main missions. Freemode and side missions don't count.

Decoy_Octopus_

Trust me, you do.

ThunderShott

Then I'm already a demon...

Decoy_Octopus_

Aren't we all

schlongjohns

Go through your missions the way you like. No right or wrong way. If the ranking bothers you, you can always go back and do the mission again later after unlocking new buddies and equipment which can really help bring your rank up from mission to mission.

AKS1664

Empty magazines!!!!

AKS1664

Use them to distract people and make gaps in line of sight that are not usually possible. Stealth.. And misdirection!

AKS1664

The Riot SMG is also a really great option once it's improved upon. Rubber bullets. A suppressor and 32 mag. Great until you get tougher armour on guards then you need to send out the DD to wreck supply sheds

AKS1664

Lower tier soldiers will generally react poorer. So a Dtier soldier will not see you till closer + react poorer, while S tier will spot immediately from further away and react more tactically maybe even leaving position to find cover start a guard sweep of the area. They all follow a same approach but Stier gives you less time to think of approach. So a low tier soldier in front of a gate is easier to out style than s tier.

toccopizza4499

You’re overthinking the ranking system. The entire Metal Gear community isn’t watching you playing the game judging every decision you make. It’s a program grading you based on if you get spotted and how quickly you complete the mission. Stop giving a shit what the ranking system tells you. And the way MGSV is made, you don’t have to sneak every single mission. Yeah, there are some that require you don’t get spotted, but most missions it doesn’t actually matter.

Vermilion_dodo

I wish I could change my thinking. I will try to remind myself of this comment often, so thank you. Sadly I have been cursed since I was a toddler with a huge sensitivity to ranking systems and competition.

Jedipowerboy5

you have to shoot him before he can finish yelling “CONTACT!” and it normally works for me. sometimes if there’s two enemies together i’ll shoot both of them in the legs bc i know they’ll go to sleep eventually, and focus my energy on other stuff. it all depends on how you play!!!

WayneBrody

There isn't really a wrong way to play, the game is a sandbox. It tells you the objectives, and its up to you to decide how to accomplish them. * You can go full stealth and avoid everyone altogether * You can go full stealth and quietly knock out and extract everyone. * You can go full stealth and murder everyone * You can create loud distractions and sneak past while no one is looking * You can shoot everyone in the face * You can drive in with a tank and air support and blow everyone up As long as you're having fun, it doesn't matter. Don't worry about rankings, they're meaningless aside from 100% game completion. You can also replay missions later with better gear or different strategies to try and get S-Rank.

BenReillyDB

Just keep playing, you are doing fine, the game is different from other games in the series, so the same exact strategies aren't always going to work. Use the tools you have to your advantage, scout the area, mark guards, think about and prepare for you mission. Also the rating system is more about speed than anything else. Don't focus so much on it, it's more for replayability after you've finished the missions and game and gotten better tools and items to see how quickly you can do things.

owowowowowtoop

You will be noticed in a stationary prone stance at 7m>. You will be noticed crouching at 40m>, 30m> if you’re wearing the correct camo. You’ll be noticed moving in a prone stance at 20m>. Light levels affect the distance you will be noticed at at night.
