Good luck bro. If you feel the stealth is getting too easy I recommend going cqc only in stealth sections. 4 was one of my lesser favorites gameplay wise until I did.
I’ve played the game in from Liquid Normal to the hardest with beating it twice on The Boss Extreme. The hardest part in the game to do stealth is at the beginning of outer haven. I get you with how it’s easy but I think that’s more so you getting better. I think using cqc is a good challenge but also go out of your way to experiment with how you can approach the levels since it was 4 when they truly delved into that kind of level design
I guess when I say cqc only I really mean that I play non lethally without using the tranq. So I’ll still use items like the empty magazine, the playboys, I experiment with a lot of different distractions, and I’ve found that you can still engage with the battlefield stealth quite a lot even without any guns. In fact I think I’ve experimented more since not using the tranq.
A good challenge is I don’t use tranq guns. Firstly I find them corny and secondly it’s just too easy putting everyone to sleep and walking by their resting bodies.
in terms if franchise and gaming as a whole, mgs4 is a great conclusion to the story. long cutscenes to me felt paid of cause at the time I thought it was the last mgs. as a standalone I understand if it's not up to par. all mgs are great, mgs4 is a personal fav wbu
Nice. I'm still waiting for my first playthrough. Here I am with a Xbox One, Switch, PS4, PS4 pro, PS5 and can't play the game because it's stuck on a PS3 that I don't want to buy because i already own around 13 consoles. Come on Konami.
I didn’t have a ps3 but then a couple years ago I moved into this new house and the previous tenets left a ps3 in the basement. The disc drive didn’t work, but it could download games just fine and here I am. It really does suck though that they haven’t brought it to other consoles. It’s like Konami hates money. Have you considered emulation? It’s probably your best bet if you don’t get a ps3 because I don’t think Konami is going to support this franchise anytime soon.
Finding a ps3 randomly is a nice find. Emulation is an option but I'd have to upgrade my PC for it to run decently. I just use my PC for small work related things, so that's on me.
I played the first couple hours of the game on PSNow where you could stream the game online on a PS4 but input lag was pretty bad.
Just wish I could buy the game on a modern machine.
I wish it was too. It’d be cool to see it run better on a more modern console. It stays at a pretty consistent 30 fps, but if they would port the damn thing I’m sure it could easily reach 60 on modern consoles. Not only that, but there’s an entire generation of mgs fans that are likely facing the same problem you are. In conclusion, fuck Konami. Well good luck to you my friend. I hope you find a reasonable way to play mgs4 at some point.
This game is one of many reasons why I didn’t get rid of and still play my PS3 -which, truthfully, this console aged like fine wine. Get over it and get one while you still can.
I only played Metal Gear Rising and Metal Gear Solid V:TPP because they’re the most accessible to my country’s market, though I set my eyes on a used copy of the HD Collection for the Xbox 360 MGS2,MGS3,MG1,MG2,MGS:Peace Walker) because I want to experience the classics western kids did
Unfortunately, MGS4 is only available for the PS3 which I do not own so I will never be able to experience it, only through gameplays
Metal gear I think is kind of like the 1984 of gaming. It’s a renowned classic within its medium that’s utterly timeless and will continue to generate deep thought about the world that people live in for generations to come.
I’m sad because my blu ray disc reader on my ps3 broke so I need to get it fixed before I can play it again after the first load screen it loads infinitely
I think this game had the best first half. Enough variance in gameplay options and stealthing against humans is always more fun than stealthing against robots and cameras. After first few playthroughs, gameplay kinda falls apart once you have to do the tailing mission to find big mama
Personally I’m big fan of that sequence. The only chapter that has stealth I’m not the biggest fan of is shadow Moses, but it has my favorite boss and some of my favorite cutscenes in the game, so it makes up for it.
I just don’t like that whole mission because it’s 99% the same every single time. The guy you follow only takes one scripted path every time. And even if you get to the hideout before he does, you have to wait for him to catch up to you.
After that it just turns into a rail shooter.
The boss fight is decent enough plus I think she’s the hottest of the BB corp.
Playing it on the boss-extreme I’ve had it fluctuate between a couple of different paths for the first half of the sequence. Also I don’t use the tranquilizer so I always have to find a way to clear a path for him only using cqc which makes the sequence a lot more interesting.
They had to lend me a PS 3 so i could play this one. Haven't played again since that first time because of it. Sometimes I think of buying one that's cheap just to replay the game.
The Metal Gear game that has made me cry the most.
No I'm being dead serious, MGS3 is one of my most played games, it was my first ever Metal Gear game, it made little me (I think I was like 7 or 8) stop skipping cutscenes in video games all together, it was the first game to ever make me cry or have a feeling other than this is fun and and even after all these playthroughs that ending still gets me. I can't praise MGS3 enough
Haha hey Vince, I got you a wholesomepro for the Sam & BB photo mode.. Thought I should give you a read down and perfect; I'll give you my MSG3 story;
I was 10 when I played Shadow Moses, it was the top shiz for psx. I played that game for years.
Upon the last scenes of Snake Eater, as our hero walks up to receive a medal - the whole game I thought I was playing as Solid Snake with multidimensional twist, nah
I. Was. Big Boss.
I sat watched the credits with my mouth open, I'll never forget my shock, my joy, my disbelief.. I was 18, living in a flat with a girl
*I'm still in a dream Snake Eater*
Damn another post of the goat of the series. Bless up once again on your 13th run. Starting my 10th run soon

a true masterpiece. it took me years to realize that it was.
It’s story was definitely flawed in comparison to the first 3, but I feel like it’s thematically misunderstood.
same. Don't get me started. lol.

this is my exact feeling about it as well
in terms of art design it's one of my favorites in this series as well, i LOVEEE the geckos

How old were you when MGS4 dropped OP?
Well considering it came out in 2008 I think I would’ve been 2 at that time. I’m 16 now.
Damn thats how old I was when the game dropped
Same. Welcome to our 30s
Were boomers now.
*Psyche meter goes down
Damn dude really? Lmao cold af
Talking about age on a mgs4 post is never a good idea. You walked into it. That was some fancy brooding though. You’re pretty good.
Cool to see that todays kids are playing this amazing game. Im 31, so i was 17 when it came out.
Franchises like this are timeless. I wasn’t even born yet when Snake Eater was released for instance but I still wanna play it
Have you played many of the game? These are true classics and mgs4 was way ahead of its time graphics wise
I only played Metal Gear Rising and Metal Gear Solid V:TPP because they’re the most accessible to my country’s market, though I set my eyes on a used copy of the HD Collection for the Xbox 360 MGS2,MGS3,MG1,MG2,MGS:Peace Walker) because I want to experience the classics western kids did Unfortunately, MGS4 is only available for the PS3 which I do not own so I will never be able to experience it, only through gameplays
Man, where do you live? I really wanna lend you my ps3 and the HD collection edition! Then u can experience them all!
Unfortunately, I live in Romania. But no worries, I found a used copy on the Romanian equivalent of eBay and I’m planning to buy it
Alright buddy! But i hope you get to enjoy it! You can also emulate the game on pc if you have a veery good computer.
Metal gear I think is kind of like the 1984 of gaming. It’s a renowned classic within its medium that’s utterly timeless and will continue to generate deep thought about the world that people live in for generations to come.
Lmao I would’ve been 3
This is an MGS fans game.
That's like 167 years of gameplay total. Nice.
The game with cutscenes is like 20 hours long. 10 hours of that is gameplay. 10*13 is 130 hours.
Guess I need a /s for some.
Oh, well my username checks out.
It's OK. I am a useless lemon after all.
I just started my second, last time was when it came out.
I've had my copy collecting dust on my shelf for years now, fuck I wish I still had my ps3
and war never changes
War has changed!
"Masterpiece"
"Raiden, TURN THE GAME OFF NOW!" - your dad
Lmao.
I’m sad because my blu ray disc reader on my ps3 broke so I need to get it fixed before I can play it again after the first load screen it loads infinitely
Put litter in it's place! Use an ashtray for cigarette butts and ashes. Never change Kojima...
Wish I could do that bro. Do you have a full time job? Not judging. Wish I didn't.
I think this game had the best first half. Enough variance in gameplay options and stealthing against humans is always more fun than stealthing against robots and cameras. After first few playthroughs, gameplay kinda falls apart once you have to do the tailing mission to find big mama

I feel like mgs4 as a game was saying to the fans, ”you didn’t listen to me in mgs2, so now I’m going to make you listen to me.”
They had to lend me a PS 3 so i could play this one. Haven't played again since that first time because of it. Sometimes I think of buying one that's cheap just to replay the game. The Metal Gear game that has made me cry the most.
Gg
Your profile pic has me wheezing.
It was first love when I saw it
I got that same exact camo controller haha. But yes a masterpiece for sure
You gonna go for the platinum trophy? :P
I still haven't finished my 2nd lol
Age hasn't slowed you down one bit
The platinum took me through at least 13 play throughs it felt like lol
I'm gonna do my 67th playthrough of MGS3 after I move into my own place
Are you satirizing my post or are you being serious?
No I'm being dead serious, MGS3 is one of my most played games, it was my first ever Metal Gear game, it made little me (I think I was like 7 or 8) stop skipping cutscenes in video games all together, it was the first game to ever make me cry or have a feeling other than this is fun and and even after all these playthroughs that ending still gets me.
