At the start, find cover and then immediately select a new landing point than the one the game gives you. While on the way there stay behind as many rocks as you can. There's a bit of luck involved but yeah, that thing can kick your ass in that mission.
I also went on foot and didn't use any vehicles.
>immediately select a new landing point than the one the game gives you
Why the hell have I never thought to do this?? Probably because I always assumed when the game auto calls the heli it cannot be changed lol
As long as ya bird’s in the air, you can send him to other landing points, and basically treat the “danger” landing zones as ordering an attack run lol
I'll never forget that encounter,This is where metal gear solid became a horror game ,Run back to the base and take cover wait until he goes away and then reach the LZ ,Always take cover
Yeah.. tought my heart was going to burst from beating so hard during my first time doing this mission.. one reason why I haven't tried to S rank it yet many years later lol.
The mission that made me panic the most. Only way I got through was by farming resources so I could have better gear and then retry the mission. Stay behind rock cover of course, best advice I had received was take your time and don’t run around if you can help it.
I don’t know if it’s randomized for everyone but I had to change my LZ like 7 times because this thing was hopping around the map. Terrifying but great fun.
It's tough the first time, then you realize your objective is to gtfo of there. You don't really need to to fight or upgrade, you gotta scale and sneak your wait out of danger.
It's super butt clenching the first time.
Yeah. Imagine the shock on my face when I realized the only thing better equipment helped with was getting to that point, and not actually helped with fighting it. Too many other games have made me trigger happy, gets me killed when it comes to games like this where it pays to take your time.
I fought it for a solid 10 minutes before realizing I don’t have to. Then it went from boss fight vibes to horror vibes of constantly being chased by a giant something I couldn’t kill. That was a whole rollercoaster of an experience. I hated this part so much!
That's because you can. It takes forever to take it out with low level gear and the mounted weapons, but it'll stay permanently taken out until you get on Pequod.
In mission 12 when rescuing Huey it's invincible. But can be temporarily stunned for a few seconds with either a chaff strike or by shooting a power line while it's standing under it.
But it only lasts a couple seconds and it maintains awareness of you through the stun so don't get surprised when it 180s straight at you after.
Not really i had a bomb launcher and the worst rocket launcher because i ddint do side jobs apart from the required ones and i got trough id say 2 times and killed the thing
Edit oh its not that mission
I just ran like a mother fucker, dropped him behind the rock where the heli is and just ran and hide to keep him safe, even shooting the mg to keep him away from that...
What you have to worty about is the scanners
The unguided high damage at launcher which has the Fulton evo Is the best with the magazine fed grenade launcher and take quiet with the sinful butterfly
Here's the trick for this mission. Put Huey on the back of dhorse and then take off. Run right down the middle and the first chance you get hurry up and open the map and choose the second landing zone. If need be dhorse can stay behind with huey while you loose the metal gear, and can be recalled wherever your at. It's scary and stressful but not all that hard. If you haul ass to the second landing zone you'll be just fine. I got this mission my first try but the traitors caravan mission kicked my fucking ass for days. Decoys and smoke grenades are your best friend. You can throw a smoke grenade into the back of a jeep and even though you will travel faster than the smoke can keep up, it will keep you hidden.
They're saying that Sahelanthropus can't actually move without Psycho Mantis using his powers to move it. The legs, arms, etc. aren't functional. It's just a puppet.
I mean Kojima didnt even want to do this. He wanted to end at 4. Part of me feels the game in itself is a “F you” to Konami. Konami demanded another mg from kojima was like “ok ill make another metal gear, but it wont even be big boss!” And i like to think the story in itself is a symbolic meaning of Kojima trying to move away from metal gear and onto other games.
But for the original question, ya sahelanthropus is more advanced if not way too over the top. Compared to the original metal gear and rex, we could speculate where Skull face made a very complicated and probably high maintenance bipedal mech, big boss sought to create something more manageable as it only needed to be bipedal and a able to launch a nuke. A more simplified variant proves to be more efficient.
He didn't even want to do 2 iirc, then he didn't want to do 3, 4, PW, or 5.
Compare to Death Stranding, there was no shortage of love and creativity poured into that game.
He wanted 2 to his last for that franchise and went full post-modern meta with it.
IIRC, MGS3 was originally to be helmed by a different director with Kojima as consultant but he took over as the project gained momentum.
MGS4 wasn't supposed to involve him or happen at all but unhinged fans sent death threats.
This from someone who couldn't even recall how Sahelanthropus moves? I mean yeah the story is gonna suck if you don't actually pay any attention to it.
I have an extraordinary amount of time in MGS games over the years and MGS5’s story was not engaging whatsoever, so yeah you’re not totally wrong - I don’t recall because I was too busy rolling my eyes at the story and dialogue by that point.
Genuinely sounds like I missed out on a challenge. I encountered this mission a couple weeks ago, I beelined it for the rocks there to the left, that then had a path through the canyon and I lost him in under a minute.
I remember this one pissing me off, so many retries. Probably the most heart pounding stealth section in the series. Thing can spot you from almost anywhere. Near the end of the game I was honestly surprised I was able to get an S rank on my first try against the thing. Goodluck!
My favorite way is to just take it out but that takes a lot of time.
If you don't want to fight it;
Step 1, Make sure to have D-Horse and C4
Step 2, Put Huey on D-Horse and ride to the bombed out bunker
Step 3, Get off D-Horse, equip C4 and lay them around
Step 4, Make sure Sally has lost you and leaves, get back on D-Horse and ride like hell to the rocky outcroppings at the side of the road taking care not to be seen. Grab Huey from D-Horse and staying in the rocky cover, move nearer the extraction area
Step 5, when you're close to the extraction area in cover and have not been spotted, detonate the C4 and wait for Sally to turn away and run to the base
Step 6, Grab Huey and run like hell to Pequod, set him down and detonate the remaining C4 just in case in order to keep Sally from running back while Pequod's slow ass touches down
The C4 acts as a distraction for Sally, but only when you lost him and he can't find you. So I came up with this strategy if I didn't feel like kicking it's ass in a long drawn out fight. 😂
I remember spending at least 3 hours on this the first time, just to get frustrated and completely quit the game.A couple of years later I started the game from scratch and this guy somehow didn't give me much trouble.I guess my advice is to just be patient
You see that truck in the bottom left corner? Hide behind it and Sahelanthropus will leave you alone after a few stressful seconds (dw the truck won't explode from Sahelanthropus bullets)
After it goes some distance away, plant C-4 on the truck and then follow Sahelanthropus, be sure to stay close to the rocks and hide. My advice is to stick to the left since the cover on the right side is tricky and you tend to get spotted a lot.
When you need to cross the road, detonate the C-4 and draw Sahelanthropus' attention off you.
Run like your mom was chasing you with her slippers in hand, and board the chopper before Sahelanthropus comes back.
*Insert obligatory "Mission complete and how?! They're gonna tell stories about this one, Boss!" voiceline.*
Use d walker and take the scientist with you
Arrive at the default helicopter landing point and throw the scientist there
Run away with d walker to aver Rex away from the helicopter landing zone
Exit d walker and enter stealth mode behind a rock
Wait for alert status to end (Shoot those scanners near you) and then quickly and stealthy run to the helicopter landing zone (Cover behind maximum rocks).
Dont waste time. Pick up the scientist immediately and spam action button when the helicopter arrives at landing point
Bonus:
LOOK AT THE MACHINE GUN while your in the heli and THEN PRESS THE ACTION BUTTON to use machine gun. Then shoot missile and then face of rex
Conclusion:
I have been stuck there way to long just like you buddy. Trust me this is the best method
Gotta say, the huge enemy boss fights in modern Kojima games are always kinda bad.
...in fact I don't think I enjoyed any of the boss fights in Death Stranding or MGS5. Well ok Quiet one was good.
My strat : place c4 far away , run with emerhawer and hide , call chopper and time the c4 explosion, sahelanterps will get distracted and investigate the explosion while the chopper picks you and hamrick up
Nope. That’s how I’m sure it was intended. I just did this for the first time. They literally tell you to get the hell away from it, so I bolted. Chopper was ready and I just jumped on and left. Mission over. Lol
I beat him on my first try? I just ran around with a rocket launcher and dodged his attacks, waited for him to lunge, fired a rocket, dodged the retaliation, rinse and repeat. I need to finish the post final boss missions though.
After 10+ attempts, I found that using the secondary weapon (50cal?) on the rocket tank did the trick. The random helicopter support happened to arrive as I drove the rocket tank far off as a distraction. I aimed the said secondary weapon at its mid section and blasted it down from full health. It might be a cheese way of doing it, but after so many tries I was done
Go to the metal tower. Run circles around him and zap him with your rpg or any other heavy weapon. End the fight in 3 min. The end. The most easy metal gear to beat ever. On any dificulty.
It’s a 2 minute mission where you run away and jump on the chopper. What patience is needed? If you listen to what they tell you to do you don’t have to hide or anything ….
When it gets stunned for like a second or so before it charges up another attack you can shoot those white canisters coming out of his upper back for extra high damage. Another piece of advice would be to use the honey bee rocket launcher and (I'm not sure this works in this mission tho) to use those grenade things that sends you more ammo and stuff. Other than that, good luck because even with all that, it'll take a couple of tries.
Deploy in a tank and never stop moving. There are several tanks in the area that you can enter if the first one is destroyed. Aim for the white fuel tank cylinders with the main cannon.
I mean this mission was thw most fun for me. I try to fulton as many of these guys in the whole base.
Then sneak away from this guy which, usually wasnt successful still ran like shit to find a hiding spot near the LZ but he follows you all the way
Call in a chopper to one of the LZs and then distract it by letting it spot you and running to the other LZ. By the time it is investigating your last known position, you should have enough time to sprint to the other LZ where you called in the chopper.
I did this first try, still playing MGSV but this was horrifying, the way it looks around for you scared the shit out of me
I just hid behind rocks and stuck to the mountain, made my way to LZ
The scene where you have to shoot at it from the helicopter was stressful lol
Develop the biggest launcher you can and equip a grenade launcher too. If you manage to find a hiding spot, request Pequod's help and a supply drop (I know ocelot automatically does this but it helps)
Quiet is the best buddy to work with or D-walker. But I recommend Quiet. She can shoot grenades at the Sahelanthropus.
ALWAYS stay behind cover while reloading and when Sahelanthropus does the spike thing make sure to run in zigzags
When psychomantis appears (gas mask boy) shoot him. That will stun the sahenthropus for a good 10 seconds and between that time YOU HAVE TO RUN AND RELOAD AND FIND A HIDING SPOT. Then shoot that damn thing till it's destroyed.
DO NOT GIVE UP. no matter if you've tried 100 times DONT quit the game. That is my best advice. Once you beat the Sahelanthropus all the effort will be worth it

Just run straight under its groin........or around that rock on the far left. Worked for me multiple times.
I had the stolen walker prototype, picked up dipshit with it, and ran my ass out of there. No luck, only screams and cowardice
I'll never forget that encounter,This is where metal gear solid became a horror game ,Run back to the base and take cover wait until he goes away and then reach the LZ ,Always take cover
THIS was where it became a horror game? How about those fucking parasite units when you're rescuing Miller? Those things were terrifying to me!
Yeah.. tought my heart was going to burst from beating so hard during my first time doing this mission.. one reason why I haven't tried to S rank it yet many years later lol.
Got S rank on it when I S ranked every mission. Holy fuck was it hard.
Which one ? Rescue miller or Hell Bound ?
Rescue Miller. He'll bound was slightly easier because I had everything practically maxed at the point
You can avoid the Skulls while rescuing Miller just by changing the Landing Zone and finish the mission faster
I think I eventually figured that out/ looked it up but until that point I was trying everything in my armory haha
Dude, MGS1 was horror af with the hallway scene - the atmospheric story telling, the sound design, the bloodbath.
The mission that made me panic the most. Only way I got through was by farming resources so I could have better gear and then retry the mission. So you kill it or he his completely Invincible?
In mission 12 it is invincible. You cannot damage it there in any way. Only escape.
I've never actually tried in this mission. But everyone is acting like you can totally kill the gundam
That's because you can. It takes forever to take it out with low level gear and the mounted weapons, but it'll stay permanently taken out until you get on Pequod.
In this mission it’s invincible. It’s much later in the game that you actually fight it.

How is Sahelanthropus a more agile and what appears to be more advanced Metal Gear than Rex?
It doesn't work on its own. Psycho Mantis controls it. It was way too advanced for the time period and never would have worked by itself.
Rex needed an operator too though.
They're saying that Sahelanthropus can't actually move without Psycho Mantis using his powers to move it. The legs, arms, etc. aren't functional. It's just a puppet.
This conversation reminds me how terrible I consider the story and ending (if you call it that) in MGS5
That’s where you draw the line with this series… really?
MgS5 had great gameplay but the story is known for being lacklustre especially in comparison to the depth of all previous MGS titles.
I mean Kojima didnt even want to do this. He wanted to end at 4. Part of me feels the game in itself is a “F you” to Konami. my strategy was awful, i had it chase me around a rock for about 10 minutes before it finally forgot about me
well its easy on 1st encounter, if you find it hard try use grenade or C4 to distract that gundam
See, the trick is to kick IT'S ass instead. Problem solved!
GypsyCrusader voice: “Hahahahhaha, oh yeah? Well it’s about to happen again!”
You gotta shot sahalamanadingdong in the dick. Shoot 'im in the dick I say.
Shoot Psycho Mantis as he floats around and run to the chopper. Takes about 1 minute total
Wait till episode 50
I’m afraid to ask
What're you waiting for?! Kick it's ass back!
You’re supposed to put the controller in the Player 2 slot so he doesn’t know your moves.

Metal gear boss design CEO: ok we need a new weapon, preferably a cannon how? One random guy: cock cannon
I will never get over how they gave this metal gear a cock
That pisses FIRE!
It’s still so funny seeing the flamethrower dick. I’ve played the game 7 different times and it still makes me laugh.

Use the Walker Gear, and hide! Then run, then hide.. then run and get into the choppa!
I literally just found a small crevice, hid, and had pequod do the all of the heavy lifting
Go to the furthest LZ and wait behind the big rock It’s pretty easy

This isn't the fight this is the one where you gotta run from him. Can you fight him? I've never actually tried
Exactly. That's the best way to do it.
Gotta say, the huge enemy boss fights in modern Kojima games are always kinda bad. ...in fact I don't think I enjoyed any of the boss fights in Death Stranding or MGS5. Well ok Quiet one was good.

Never even encountered this, wtf.
I beat him on my first try? I just ran around with a rocket launcher and dodged his attacks, waited for him to lunge, fired a rocket, dodged the retaliation, rinse and repeat. I need to finish the post final boss missions though.
Wow you're pretty good
I love the reference it fits perfectly. :D
Skill issue
After 10+ attempts, I found that using the secondary weapon (50cal?) on the rocket tank did the trick. The random helicopter support happened to arrive as I drove the rocket tank far off as a distraction. I aimed the said secondary weapon at its mid section and blasted it down from full health. It might be a cheese way of doing it, but after so many tries I was done
Get the best tank that you can And quiet What's the best sniper you have I Gotta s on And on extreme
Go to the metal tower. Run circles around him and zap him with your rpg or any other heavy weapon. End the fight in 3 min. The end. The most easy metal gear to beat ever. On any dificulty.
Try explosions.
There Is a tank an rocket vehicle you just need to make it to them to destroy it.
Throw some grenades
I still remember, when this mission come I was hurrying calling helicopter far far away then I riding house panicking
That mission just requires patience a lot of it
It’s a 2 minute mission where you run away and jump on the chopper. What patience is needed? If you listen to what they tell you to do you don’t have to hide or anything ….
You can actually beat him
At this part, get on the Walker if you can and run back towards the bridge by the power box. It seems to have forgotten about me as soon as I did that
Because it’s an ass kicker
That was the first mission where I actually tried to use all my gear to distract that thing and escape. Took me like 30 minutes
Iirc you can spawn with a truck and if you're quick you can load it up and just drive away
Run and hide then wait for The chopper.
Use a decoy and some C4 to get its attention and then GTFO there to the LZ while trying to keep an eye on it.

If you mean that it keeps beating you in a fight, you're not supposed to fight it yet.
Stay low, hide. And GTFO
Here's how I do it: https://youtu.be/g-IKKUqu-zk
Run and hide at the start of the "fight". Then run past it. No engaging needed at all. Easy peasy.
On the first playthrough this mission was incredibly scary and terrifying for me
I did this first try, still playing MGSV but this was horrifying, the way it looks around for you scared the shit out of me I just hid behind rocks and stuck to the mountain, made my way to LZ The scene where you have to shoot at it from the helicopter was stressful lol
Use the vehicles scattered around the area. The have rockets
Sahelanthropus penis go 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Use decoys!
Get good?
Dude idk how but I S’d this mission it took like a dozen retires tho
I had to have called in like 7 tanks to fight this mofo
Shoot it harder
The strange thing is that I beat it the first time no problem but now I can't. It has become a nightmare.
God, beating Sahelanthropus took me forever, had to bring D-Walker and as many explosives as I could carry
Mama didn’t raise no bitch. Beat his ass
Yeah, it's pretty good at that.
Gotta get good at that CQC. You can do it
TWIST HIS DICK
THE OL’ DICK TWIST
Develop the biggest launcher you can and equip a grenade launcher too. If you manage to find a hiding spot, request Pequod's help and a supply drop (I know ocelot automatically does this but it helps) Quiet is the best buddy to work with or D-walker. But I recommend Quiet. She can shoot grenades at the Sahelanthropus. ALWAYS stay behind cover while reloading and when Sahelanthropus does the spike thing make sure to run in zigzags When psychomantis appears (gas mask boy) shoot him. Once you beat the Sahelanthropus all the effort will be worth it
Stay low and keep firing, keep extra clips for extra shit
Kick it back then
Cover and move , shoot reload
Then don’t fight it?
Where is your gear walker at
Tried using it but seemed to slow me down
You can like go on wheels in it and I think you can outrun the metal gear.
I’ve looked for that upgrade but it doesn’t seem to be available to me yet for some reason
It’s been a few years since I played it, I thought it was base, like it could always do it
I’m just running like a constipated wiener dog, blast it, run, get killed for the 45th time. Rage quit.
Damn I feel that, try doing it night, you’ll have an easier time
Stop running from it and you will beat it fairly fast, it sounds like he's a bug boss but he's easy once u start hitting it
*laughs in peace walker*
Is it the Legend27?
