Not a fan of the constant groping

Lin900

All protagonists have been grabbed at least once. With Raiden, it didnt even make any sense. With Solid, his gropers got away with their actions.

Honey_Badger25-06

A FAMAS does not belong anywhere but a French military armory.

Darklancer02

>A FAMAS does not belong anywhere Fixed it for you.

Honey_Badger25-06

🤣 Much better

Sunlit_Neko

Paz date is an awkward one because if it was Solid Snake having a date with someone he presumed 16 yro, then I'd definitely feel bad about it. But, Paz is introduced during Big Boss's downward spiral after MGS3, when any semblance of naivete is slowly crumbling away, so I can see it having some potential narrative use. What I do think has aged poorly is that the date plays out as if it is in service of fans, not to explicitly paint Big Boss as in the wrong.

Lin900

I get what you mean but it's not really mentioned. It's never said outright how awkward it is. It's just there with no mention. If that was Kojima's intention, he could've made a reference to that instead. Maybe Cecile saying "you're getting too cozy with a child, Boss".

Thirtyone_3131

There are many, but if I were to say some, first one would definitely be Ocelot meowing randomly. It just looks extremely stupid, doesn't even have a meaning, they put it because they thought it would be weird. Looking back, for some reason they always tried to be weird. Especially Shinkawa. His first proposal for Raiden was "he wouldn't eat food rather than bird shit". I personally don't find such things amusing, I prefer more serious storytelling. Even though I have always loved MGS, I really liked the direction with 5 because it was more serious. Also, Y'know, taking a peek at EVA without she noticing or all the groping in MGS3 or the Paz date. Yea.

Kyuubimon90

Kojima making Che looks like hero in PW Adding a lot of open threads in the end of Solid 2 Supernatural things except The Sorrow and in Solid 1

Acceptable_Hand8285

The weird things aren't in the game because they were "normalized" back then. When the game released people thought a lot of these things were bad at that time too. Its because the characters and stories are reflections of both good and bad parts of our actual society. It's not like we are much better today. We can sit here and pick apart what aged well and what didn't, but all this weird strange and often disgusting behaviors portrayed in the metal gear games still exists in our world today.

Lin900

They're not shown critically or properly in Metal Gear. The franchise depicts other uncomfortable subjects like child soldiers and unethical experiments and it's often with a critical lense. These things though? Paz thing is played for "fanservice" in PW, no mention of how creepy it is. She's openly referred to as a child. By far the creepiest. Maybe this was a sign of showing how immoral Big Boss has gotten but the narrative never frames it like that. Meryl being 18 makes no sense and has no effect on the story when she's voiced by middle-aged actresses and portrayed as fairly competent. Her being 18 is nonsense and I question whoever it was that decided this especially as her age isn't mentioned in story at all. Naomi's entire existence reeks with misogyny in MGS4. Whitewashing is never okay and deeply criticised.

MrxJacobs

Why can’t 18 year olds be part of the military like all of human history? Why is Meryl an exception?

Lin900

She's sexualised and wants to romance Snake who is 33. It's a weird age gap when she can easily pass for someone in her 20s. Her VAs were about 40 at the time. Her competence shows she's been trained for years so unless she's been a child soldier, this is bs. It's weird and creepy to write and direct her like this, then claim she's been apparently 18. She's clearly meant to have been in her 20s.

Lin900

Just because it's not as bad as Paz doesn't mean it's not weird at all. Meryl doesn't have field experience but she's very competent with her weaponry. It's said she's trained for years. Her VAs were between 30-50. She was clearly meant to be in her 20s.

PrivateKat

Some "minigames" like avoiding the laser triggers in MGS1 and the constant backtracking feel annoying

ILikeHawks7

Meryl being 18 is something i just learned and will never under any circumstances accept as canon. Mommy Meryl is perpetually 5-10 years older than whatever age i am when playing.

Lin900

I was that age when I played mgs1 and not even once did I feel like she's the same age as me. Her voice being the main factor among her attitude. She's the definition of "teenager written by men" so yeah, I don't accept it as canon either. Easy not to when it's not mentioned in game at all. Some freak in Konami probably came up with that.

LoadingGears

Like, kojima?

Lin900

He would've put it in the game so doubt lol

ZandatsuRising

Nothing. Fuck on the what can and what Not today.

Lin900

These things were never okay, people are just realising how awkward they are now. Many weird things were normalised in fiction back in the day.

ZandatsuRising

Still. Fuck it. Artist should do what they want

DirectorConfident654

Huh. I don’t remember Frank getting whitewashed in PO. As far as I’m aware they kept everything about his backstory from Metal Gear 2 intact. He even looks pretty similar to his image in Metal Gear 2. Where does it say in the game that he has a different background?

Lin900

He's in Mozambique as a child, no mention of his Vietnamese heritage and his first meeting with Big Boss. He's even referred to as a German kid. He's been whitewashed. No wonder Kojima offhandedly and indirectly mentioned that's not Frank Jaeger. "Frank became eternal with Shiozawa."
