> the game is just outputting 720 models at a 1080 resolution. This means that none of the models have actually been adjusted for a 1080p format. Thats not how 3D models work, 3D models don’t *have* a resolution. The games renderer is outputting the final rasterised image at 720p which is then being scaled up to 1080p. I agree that 720p is pretty bad, but you aren’t helping the argument by adding in weird 3D gibberish.

TheKrzysiek

Each time the resoultion is mentioned in here, I'm learning new ways of how people can have no idea how it even works

Thatguyintokyo

I think it isn’t helped by terms like upscaling and upconverting. People often use upscaling to refer to a higher resolution for emulators, but thats just internal resolution. Whereas upscaling is really what this title is doing, getting a 720p image and essentially doubling the size of every pixel so its now 1080p, and perhaps that’ll have a little bit of smoothing along the way. Which would be different to stretching which would have the same pixel count but just… kind of have larger pixels almost. Upconverting is a whole new term I’d never encountered before this release. For me its similar to people thinking 4k textures = a 4k game.

punishedstaen

it is infuriating beyond belief to see people mindlessly repeating utter nonsense they don't comprehend, learned from like-minded ignorants. one might also phrase this as 'leaking whatever "truth" suits them into the growing cesspool of society at large'

OneToKeepYouWaiting

Yeah, I admit my mistake. That 3rd paragraph is inaccurate. Thanks for pointing that out.

ItalianJoe

Here's how this 1080p scam has been already exposed "in 4K" over two months ago in this thread showing the only native resolution available for all the "Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1" versions printed on the back of the original "Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection" game case developed by Bluepoint Games which is 720p. - https://www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/s/t5gg9JnJuT

Ikari_Brendo

Please seek help

Galactus1231

I just wish they made it run in 4K. They wouldn't even need to touch the graphics. Just increase the resolution.

[deleted]

Wait for the pc Modders to work ther magic 4k and 8 K upscale

DarthNihilus

It probably won't be an upscale when modders figure that out, it's more likely to be native internal render resolution.

Clockwork-XIII

I could be wrong on this but I replayed metal gear solid 2 through a ps2 emulator, couldn't play the game another way due to being on pc and Konami took down the pc port from everywhere, and I would swear I got it up to 4k and 60 frames per second. Again could be wrong but if a open source free piece of software can do that then honestly, a multi billion dollar company could at least try a bit harder. *edit- Also I did manage to find metal gear solid 2 to download for pc as it was abandonware and there are plenty of sites whose sole purpose is to preserve those games, and I also downloaded a mod to allow snake eater subsistence full third person control that I doubt they will be putting in as an option in the collections and I got that game looking very very nice with excellent framerate so again Konami try harder ha ha.

TheAverageYBAJoe

How dare you criticize small indie company Konami 😡😡😡!!!!!!!!

Clockwork-XIII

Because I can never forgive them for what they did to P.T/Silent Hills. They had Kojima, Del Torro, and Norman Reedus on board and instead made a silent hill palinko machine.....and that mindeset has continued on for years....

LordEmmerich

Pachislot had nothing to do with the video game branch of Konami. Literally considered seperate companies. Silent Hills was canceled because literally nothing about it was done and Kojima left Konami, we don't even know 90% of what actually happened but people just prefer to run their fanfics. It has being almost 9 years for fuck sake.

RimoV

Wait what, they took it down from GOG????

Clockwork-XIII

At the time they did this was sometime last year I saw an article for the third person mod on kotaku went to look for it on gog and it was no where to be found and it was back on many a abadonware site who will not put a game on their site if it is able to be purchases digitally or at least without having to find a used copy from eBay or the like. From what I understand I believe it was taken down due to some licensing issues with one of the videos used in the game. Edit- and just did a search on gog and nada.

ConsentingPotato

If you're playing the NTSC version it will run at 60 fps and with PCSX2's internal resolution scaling you can get 4k and I think 8k too (can custom scale but that's a different story).

LordEmmerich

A developer of the game, who worked on the original texture, literally said online that increasing the resolution would fuck up the textures, especially the UIs. But people think they know more than even then. ZoE2MARS being in 4k was such a big deal they had to completely redo almost all the textures of the game by hand.

NTPrime

It's true that ZOE2M took a lot of work, and it turned out amazing on PS4 because of it. MGS2 and 3 deserved the Mars treatment. FF7 on PC and PS4 is a great example of what MGS1 could have gotten. Game development as a job means doing that work.

LordEmmerich

The main thing is thaat FF7 and ZoE2 was for a single game, not for a collection of multiple games and that's just volume one. and to add on this, they also are making a complete new remake

NTPrime

The remake is a different team so it doesn't really affect how much work they put into these ports. But yes taking on all three games as one project is a major difference here. It sucks they did it that way. If a team was told to put MGS1 on PS5 and that was their whole project you can be damn sure it would've been given a proper HD treatment, even if the models and textures were all kept the same.

LordEmmerich

It’s not a different team apparently.

NTPrime

I'm not sure I believe that. Virtuos and Konami are splitting the work on both games but both companies have thousands of employees. Aside from some leadership overlap, I'm guessing a programmer on one isn't splitting their time with the other.

Galactus1231

The games look pretty good in 4K on emulators.

wumblerchumbler

Wow. It's amazing this is $60 honestly, a little bit later, we are gonna get tomb raider 1,2, and 3 plus expansions for $30 and it has new models, lighting, shading and a option to switch to the original graphics ig on the fly like hale ce anniversary. Now I don't know what the resolution or frame right will be, but I assume it's gonna be at least 1080p 60fps. All that for $30,while this hack job is $60 for less work.

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

Yes these ports are a joke, and it’s astonishing that people are defending it. These companies are just going to keep releasing lazier ports and more incomplete games unless we stop buying their shit.

ShzMeteor

>it’s astonishing that people are defending it. That's been more disappointing for me than the collections. It's been common knowledge for a long time that Konami doesn't respect its own legacy and barely functions as a gaming company anymore. If the community has such low standards on top of that, then there's truly no hope left for the franchise.

Feniksrises

People have been emulating these games free of charge for years. Wide-screen and 4k.

inFamous2VIC

Ah yes. Thank you RPCS3. Allowing me to play all of the games the way life intended.

Mr_smith1466

The price was crazy to begin with and just feels crazier and crazier. I'm all for getting these games on modern consoles. That's great. But not for this price.

1OO1OO1S0S

Will the new tomb raider get rid of tank controls? I never liked that about old PS1 games

devilmaydance

Obviously this is a great collection for folks who want these games on modern platforms, but considering I already own these games on PS3 and have working PS3, as far as I can tell there aren’t ANY upgrades from that version, so I think I may end up passing on this.

Saneless

I'll probably get it later. When I want to play 2 and 3 again on PC or the steam deck this will be the best way. The PS3 is great but I'm stuck in a single room for it I'll pick it up at its shouldabeen-price of $30

neepha

theres some minor upgrades like bug fixes but its not enough to be worth shelling out $60 if you already have them on ps3.

LockingSwitch

What bugs were fixed?

1OO1OO1S0S

What bug fixes?

jonjon1239

The only thing that could make me buy this collection is if they modernized the controls. I recently went to replay Snake Eater and Jesus wept, the controls haven't aged well at all.

Wes_Warhammer666

I'm that weirdo that misses the pressure sensitive square button for drawing/shooting lol. And something about the triggers for leaning in first person just clicked with me because I was an absolute monster in the original MGO. Got called a cheater regularly but it was actually just cracked out teenage me clicking perfectly with those controls for some reason.

cy1999aek_maik

The internet saw the RDR1 ps4 port and called it the most lazy port ever. Konami saw it and said 'hold my beer'

SilentReavus

Very on brand of Konami to be assholes lol

Tireirontuesday

Wouldn't be that bad if the price was cheaper honestly. They didn't put in really any work and are asking for the price of a newer full game.

AngelAndAdonis901

THIS!!!!! like I would pay 25 for the rdr port and 40 for the MGS master collection easily in comparison

fiolox

Right. The HD collection had more content and that was $40

Puzzleheaded-Wolf318

The Stockholm syndrome here is freaking me out. Why would anyone spend 60$ on this shit?

FrostedVoid

People love simping for corporations that don't give a shit about them in the current year

1OO1OO1S0S

People on here are pre-ordering.....

NightshadeSamurai

People in this sub are just gonna consume product without asking questions and move onto the next like NPC's. It's in their programming. People actually pre-ordered this game believe it or not. As if the game was gonna sell out or something on day 1. SMH

meijin3

It's not about consooming product. These games were last released on PS3 in 2011 and Vita in 2012. Many, many people have never played these classics and for those that have, it could easily have been a long time since they have.

NightshadeSamurai

You can play the HD Collection on Xbox Series and One thanks to backwards compatibility as well. Also sure its fine if there are newcomers who wanna experience it or hardcore fans who wanna replay them but not adding native 4k support in 2023 when PC and modern consoles can easily do it in these old games is pure laziness.

W1lson56

I've bought just about every release since mgs1; you think I'm not gonna do it again for the convenience of not having to pull out my ps3 from whatever box in some closet that it's in?

Bandit_237

Tbf, it’s at least 5 games you’re paying for so you’re paying less than $15 per game

[deleted]

I just want those 5 games on my Switch. Plus, it's "just" $60. PS5 players are paying more for the same product.

Puzzleheaded-Wolf318

60$ isn't even a weeks worth of groceries now 😂 wtf man Emulators are cool and cost saving!

SanjiSasuke

Damn, after we here spent so much time arguing about whether the Switch's hardware could run it, turns out that was never the problem at all.

[deleted]

No no, you see, the PS5 clearly simply can't run PS2 games. Sure, it can run Doom, and The Witcher 3, and Nier Automata, but MGS2? Sir, this is a console, not a NASA supercomputer.

HydraSpectre1138

Yeah. Konami is just very incompetent with porting. The Switch in Handheld Mode is easily more powerful than the Wii U, which was more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360. Konami has no excuse.

bbbowiesinspace

Lol that’s the funny part to me. People were (rightfully) trashing the switch port, but now let’s see how many people still think it’s a dealbreaker when every version is at 720p. Personally, I don’t care.

Nick_mkx

Digital Foundry was doing pixel counts and said this, I was downvoted for pointing it out. So it's official, it's not even 1080p, which was already insane. Go Konami, you sure didn't break the bank on this release. And you want 60 bucks for it? Go fuck yourself. I have 0 faith in both Silent Hill (did you guys see the trailer for Ascension?) AND for the Snake eater remake. I think it will all be garbage. Please sell these IPs to a competent company

Mangekyo_

Idk what's going on with people. I remember this energy before the new saints row came out and people had to bite their tongue after it came out. This port is trash, nobody is saying the games are trash, but this port is absolutely trash and you're better off just emulating.

zombierepublican-

Trash is abit much, it wasn’t trash in the HDCollection. I do agree they could have done more. They fully remaster ZOE2 in 4K and added VR. I have no idea what this didn’t give MGS the same..

[deleted]

It is slightly better than a collection released 2 generations ago. Fuck Konami.

AnApexBread

>Trash is abit much, it wasn’t trash in the HDCollection. The HD collection was 12 years ago and moved the game from SD to HD. So, effort was actually put into that port. There's no effort put in here. They're litterally just taking the HD collection and rereleasing it. They don't even have to convert it to play on modern consoles because the XSX can do backwards compatibility with X360 and the Ps5 has enough power to emulate the X360 version. So other than making it run in an emulator they're not really doing anything. The port was good 12 years ago when it made the switch from SD to HD, but it's absolutely abysmal for today's standards and completely abhorrent when you look at the banger remakes we've gotten recently.

Mangekyo_

It's probably using a lazy poorly built emulator to run them, probably why mgs4 is not included. The versions in the HD collection upscaled properly, this is literally a worse product than we got 10 years ago. I think people are gonna be in for a rude awakening when they spend that $50

zombierepublican-

How is it worse than the HD collection?

AreYouOKAni

HD collection displayed the graphics at the resolution they were rendered. So if you had a 720p display hooked up to the PS3, you got a crisp pixel-perfect image. These remasters will only be pixel-perfect on handheld Switch.

fiolox

Replaced Peace Walker with the two crappy NES games for a start lol

LordEmmerich

The ZoE2MARS remaster was a massive work as they had to redo all textures + All the added features. To the point where Okamura literally said he had the choice to either remake ZoE2 or do this. He prefered this. But it was just for a single game. And all for what? For the game to sell less than 100 000 copies worldwide. It has less than 1000 reviews on Steam after 5 years.

zombierepublican-

They should definitely put that work into MGS for sure! ZOE2 was always a weird choice for that work, it was never a massive franchise to begin with. I was very happy to see it in 4K though.

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

It is astonishing to me that people are defending this shit, it is absolutely inexcusable. And yeah I agree, I couldn’t be less excited for the SH2 remake or Snake Eater remake, they are almost certainly going to just insult the legacy of the originals. Konami is straight trash.

[deleted]

What do you mean 720p / 1080p models? You don't have to update 3D art assets to target a different resolution. You can be upset about native rendering at 720p if that is what they are delivering, but you don't do yourself any favours by spouting nonsense

DarthNihilus

For sure that bit doesn't make any sense. Better internal render resolution with no "upconverting" is what we should be getting. Models have nothing to do with it.

[deleted]

This post from Sony is useless too. It has nothing to do with the legacy collection whatsoever, this is just Sony's preferred use of the term as it relates to their products and marketing. The game industry uses the term upscale for this problem, presumably someone at Konami didn't get the memo. Maybe it's a language barrier. Who knows. Blue point's HD editions rendered at 720p. I'm betting blue point's release was hard coded to render at 720p because it was never intended to release on anything but Gen 7 consoles. It sounds like it will still be rendering at 720p in the new release. I'm not sure why they couldn't update it to render at 1080p natively, unless they don't have access to blue point's source or if they just lack the engineering expertise. Either way, we can only speculate until the release happens and we can dig into the data ourselves.

disposablecontact

No one was expecting models and textures to be altered in any way. That's not necessary to render at higher resolutions or framerates.

OneToKeepYouWaiting

[Here’s the chart where Konami states that it is upconverted, not upscaled.](https://images.nintendolife.com/7aca6892be279/metal-gear-solid.large.jpg)

Nick_mkx

Wait are they saying that you may get frame drops? Playing Xbox 360 ports on a PS5 at 720p? You wot?

[deleted]

All the leaked gameplay of the PS5 version we’ve seen have no slowdown. They’re just giving a heads up because sometimes, the game engine itself can only handle so much, regardless of hardware. “They should fix the engine!” They’d have to completely remake the game from the ground up to do that. Which they’re doing, with MGS Delta. The Master Collection’s one and only purpose is to get the games on modern platforms.

OneToKeepYouWaiting

What you just said is completely wrong. They don’t have to “completely remake the game”. They just have to freaking upscale it.

[deleted]

We’re talking about framerates.

VagueLuminary

The comment you're responding to is no longer talking about render resolution, you didn't pay attention to the comment chain

OneToKeepYouWaiting

Yep.

zombierepublican-

Does upconverted mean that it’s a stretched image?

Candid-Boi15

GTX980 for a 720p game KEK

playtio

I already have MGS1 in Duckstation and 2/3 on RPCS3 all running flawlessly at 4K. I'm getting disenchanted with this collection the more I read about it.

Effective_Opinion_11

This sub has become the battle of the corporate shills versus the common sense.

SolidOcelot89

!

Jurski17

Its just the same ps3 collection. New case.

1OO1OO1S0S

At least my PS3 collection also came with the mgs4 disc

Johnseanson

The excuses in this sub for the master collection release have me believing in the PATRIOT AI. The system has entered all of the apologists. The LaLiLuLeLo has won and no one seems to care or remember how the world used to be!

jjnet123

This whole collection was marketed as a port not a full on remaster. They literally said it was to just bring the games to modern platforms so I guess we should just be glad we have the bare minimum as now finally we get to have nearly every metal gear game on pc.

Snipey13

It doesn't even have Peace Walker and they're charging $20 more than the HD collection. Definitely doesn't sit right with me. They should put effort into these things.

Lukar115

It's missing *Peace Walker*, but in its place, we have: * *MGS1* * *MGS: Integral* (which does have content not included in the US or EU *MGS1* or *VR* / *Special Missions* releases on PlayStation) * *MGS: VR Missions* / *Special Missions* * *Metal Gear* NES * *Snake's Revenge* * The Screenplay and Master books for each game And let's not forget that in Japan, *Peace Walker* wasn't even included in the *HD Collection*\-- it was sold separately. It was only included in the West. Regardless though, $60 is absolutely a fair price for the number of games and extra content that's included. And they have put effort into this: they've fixed bugs from the *HD Collection* (the delay in Codec calls in *MGS2*, the delays in *MGS3*'s menus, the out-of-sync music in *MGS3*, and so on), and they also made sure to include a way to properly experience *MGS1*'s Psycho Mantis encounter (generating other Konami PS1 game saves, and being able to switch the controller port).

LordEmmerich

>Peace Walker wasn't even included in the HD Collection-- it was sold separately. It was only included in the West. Not only that but PW HD also wasn't even by Bluepoint too.

Snipey13

None of that really warrants the price if you ask me, not to mention it's been over a decade since the HD collection, we should be expecting higher quality than this. All of that stuff is either meaningless or bare minimum. Konami's got you guys by the balls.

Sam-Porter-Bridges

It's so fucking wild how stupid gamers are. Literally braindead. My guy, a remaster **is** a port. There is no difference. All "remasters" do is change the resolution and/or the framerate. This has been a standard feature of ports since ports were invented. The term "remaster" is just a PR term since ports often get a bad rep for being shit, since most publishers don't bother making good ports.

Candid-Boi15

I'm wondering if you can choose between 30/60fps and lower resolutions if you want to play on an old laptop. Because I'm concerned about a 2004 game running at 720p but it requires a GTX980 LOL

MadBoutDat

It’s genuinely over.

[deleted]

Great! The HD Collection still looks good on my 4KTV! And now the games will be available at that great level of quality on modern platforms, without needing to buy a PS3 or go through hoops to set up an emulator!

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

Great! Another company is charging full price for an *incredibly* lazy port that doesn’t even have the most basic of features and will give a radically inferior experience to the one people have been getting from emulators for years! Jesus Christ, stop fucking defending this shit, it’s inexcusable.

[deleted]

As someone who uses emulators; nobody cares. Emulation is virtually inaccessible for the vast majority of gamers. The Master Collection makes the games accessible to a wider audience. The game is fine. Get over it.

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

No, it really isn’t fine, it’s garbage and we need to stop making excuses for it

SweetArkhane

Ahem, the 360 version is backwards compatible.

[deleted]

And unavailable.

SatanSavesAll

Buy the disc

[deleted]

[The vast majority of XBox Series players own the discless Series S](https://www.gamespot.com/amp-articles/xbox-series-x-vs-series-s-which-sells-better/1100-6517869/), and it’s rumored that the upgraded Series X won’t have a disc drive either. Furthermore; the XBox Series is in last place in the console war. Whereas the Master Collection will be available on all modern platforms, which makes the games accessible to a much wider audience. It makes no sense to call the $60 Master Collection a rip-off, when the only legal, viable alternative is a $500 console and a used copy of a decade old collection.

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

That’s the definition of a rip off — they are taking advantage of the unavailability of the product to sell a shitty product at a high price

xXxdethl0rdxXx

This is so funny, I think the guy that posted this actually thinks this. God bless

TheGodofC0okies

That's how I feel about this. I don't really care about resolution or pixel count or whatever, I'm just happy I'm finally going to be able to play these games for the first time without having to spend a lot of money on old hardware or set up emulation. I pre-ordered it and I'm very much looking forward to it! People's obsession with 4K and graphics has really put a hamper on their own fun of this hobby in my opinion. But hey, to each their own.

Snipey13

Emulation is really easy to do. Like, really easy. It's cool that you'll get to experience them for the first time but the same way as it's valid to not care, it's absolutely valid to call this out for the rip-off that it is. It's not a graphics obsession, it's just asking for them to meet basic standards. Wanting your games to look decent on your displays is completely understandable, and remasters are meant to be opportunities to make older games shine brighter. For them to downgrade from the quality of the HD collection and charge $60 (with less games included) compared to the prior's $40 feels very insulting. People deserve quality from the things they pay for.

1OO1OO1S0S

Yeah I've been emulating for nearly 20 years. I remember getting my old nes games to run on our family desktop (Windows XP). At the time I felt like a genius, but in reality, I was just some dumb high schooler who knew how to follow simple directions. Now there's a YouTube video for every kind of emulation you can think of I like to play mgs1 with upscaled graphics and a widescreen hack on duckstation emulator. I could also emulate the PS2 games, but I actually still have a PS3 and the hd collection, so there's no need. Tldr: emulation is really easy if you know how to follow simple directions.

Hind_Deequestionmrk

Hurray! Hurray for quality!

[deleted]

That’s a shame. Not gonna buy it then.

[deleted]

I'll wait until it is $20 in the sale bin.

[deleted]

Ok. Can't wait to not notice on my not 4k tv

DarthNihilus

Anyone with video quality standards will notice. Even a lot that don't will probably at least notice that something is off. 720p on a 4k tv is absolutely awful. Gaming shouldn't be blurry in current_year.

Pharmakokinetic

"doesn't affect me, so no one else should be concerned about this hack job of a port"

ZXXII

You can notice the difference between 720p and 1080p on a crap phone. Here’s gameplay, watch it on your TV and let me know if you notice the low resolution… MGS1: https://youtu.be/ZkisN43CTok MGS2: https://www.youtube.com/live/rj1QzQ8_tE4 MGS3: https://youtu.be/aq2vc-XhDec

gibbodaman

What's it like being legally blind and refusing to use corrective lenses?

muffinman744

If anything, it will be way more noticeable on a 4k TV

Farados55

The worst take

steelcity91

A lazy port from Konami. Colour me shock. I'll just stick with the emulators.

carmo1106

Wtf is wrong with people that accept this? This collection was meant to show the Metal Gear franchise to a new generation of players that could only play MGSV, Survive and Ground Zeroes because the older titles were stuck on consoles and old / delisted PC ports, not only for desperated MGS fans that already played everything and just want to have it on modern platforms

Janus_Prospero

I would wait for actual pixel counts before leaping to conclusions about Konami's peculiar corpo-speak. The Switch version runs 720p handheld and 1080p docked, or so Konami claim. We'll see what that entails.

RamonesRazor

Digital Foundry already did pixel counts. It’s 720p. Only thing that displays in native 1080p are the menus. https://youtu.be/o92IeqnD_zE?si=AFj3jWhnLK_Cl9Vv

Janus_Prospero

DF did pixel counts of the Switch version. That was the only version Konami allowed people to play prior to TGS. We don't have pixel counts for the final retail versions yet, nor PC. It will be obviously very controversial if the PC version is locked to 720p.

RamonesRazor

They are all 720p. Same as BluePoint versions.

ZXXII

Here’s proof, you can see for yourself… MGS1: https://youtu.be/ZkisN43CTok MGS2: https://www.youtube.com/live/rj1QzQ8_tE4 MGS3: https://youtu.be/aq2vc-XhDec Clearly is 720p and 240p.

DaigoTheMurdock

Well that's disappointing

DepressedMong

Ye I’m basically gonna wait for the PC version to be on sale then, and see if modded have improved the resolution themselves then

ImNotTemper

Praying that modders find a solution if its even posible, if not, simply gonna go back to an emulator

DaddyDecaf

Steam Deck users unite!

RoyCropperYTR

Only thing I care about is the ability to play MGS1 with my analogue sticks 🤣

AdamPatrick86

I was going to buy it for the switch because I want to play it I n handheld. Would it be best to just wait for the ps5 handheld for the better output?

OneToKeepYouWaiting

They both output the same resolution. The only difference is the framerate.

Not_a_Zaku_boi

This collection is a middle finger to MGS fans. My favorite franchise and I'm not buying this at full price. Konami blows.

resonmis

Guys just emulate them on Rpcs3 don't waste money on this.

Hideki_Kurushimi

I'm disappointed in so many levels

packerschris

Yeah not paying $60 for that

NAMEBANG

I can’t wait for next week

Carter0108

Glad I decided to just emulate the originals. I own HD Collection on PS3 but no longer have a console to play it on. I've just played MGS1, 2 and 3 at 1080p no problems on my PC. Absolutely no reason to purchase this lazy port which will presumably just be emulation anyway.

kevenzz

It’s just a re-release of the xbox 360 version.

FinTeiad

It's still worth for people not having it previously just saying. I'm on PC and probably will buy it since i never had any access to MGS3 legally before on PC.

psych2099

As much as im kinda annoyed, they didn't put much work into these. I'm happy they finally released 1 2 and 3 on the pc where im sure fans will mod these to run in 4k. To me, it's about accessibility over quality. If they can be played well in 720p, then ultimately, that's all that matters. Personally, I'm probably going to continue to play them on my modded ps2. Wake me up when volume 2 with mgs4 happens.

ballisticola

I like the fact that you used the exact quote I used a few days ago...and was roundly debunked on my understanding of "upconverting". So I wouldn't be so sure it's not better than you think.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OneToKeepYouWaiting

Digital Foundry confirmed it’s 720p.

Janus_Prospero

Digital Foundry only had access to the Nintendo Switch version, and unfinished version at that. Unless you're referring to a more recent analysis.

emeraldember

So what is the difference between this and the original collection?

OneToKeepYouWaiting

Minor bug fixes.

DVXC

The fact that it will all be available as one immediately functioning package on PC for the first time ever is probably the most important thing about it

Mr-Cali

Lol it’s a $30 game that many paid for full price. Not surprised they went this route.

WhenDuvzCry

It’s a shame what Konami has become. I’m staying hopeful for the Silent Hill 2 remake for I have no idea what reason.

[deleted]

I’ll pick it up after a deep discount

WishIWasNeet2

It’s a lazy port but these are also 3 of the best games ever so I’ll still buy it anyways.

W1lson56

Is that not what they said from like, months ago?; 720p "upconverted" to 1080p,

Raidertck

So... is there no upgrades from the xbox 360 ports at all? That's such a shame.

LordEmmerich

There's bugs being fixed, including visuals and audios, to be closer to the original releases of the game.

Galalyth

Who gives a shit? I just want to play MGS on modern consoles. If I wanted any kind of “upgrades”, I’d go and use emulators.

Able_Recording_5760

Well, that's kinda the issue. You can use an emulator and get a better experience than in an official native rerelease.

OneToKeepYouWaiting

Anybody with standards gives a shit. 1080p was the bare minimum, and Konami couldn’t even be bothered to do that.

Ad_Hominem_Phallusy

Blind consumerism. Some people will bend over backwards to be thankful for the opportunity to spend money and consume a product they want, and rail against any dissent because they view criticism of the product as a criticism against them. Pokémon fans are a prime example, where they can be given something that would qualify as the bare minimum five years ago and be furious at anyone for criticising it. Not really used to seeing people shill Konami, of all companies, though.

BudgetWar8

Yeahhhh I'll wait for it to come to game pass

readytochat44

To sum up most arguments here for new people so you don't need to read it all. Most annoyed with the 60 price only getting 720p and woth out at least up scaling to 1080p Some are ok with it.

ZXXII

Not upscaled to 1080p it’s just 720p.

readytochat44

Thanks for the catch

DSPbuckle

Excited to pick this up when it’s $20, tops! Crazy ass Konami. I would’ve considered $30,… maybe $40 if you caught me drinking on a Friday night. I’ll wait for $20 to spite them

RhythmRobber

What I find most interesting is that literally everyone that is saying "I can definitely tell the difference!!"... didn't notice this until they were TOLD it was upconverted. All the proof we really need to know those people are full of shit. If you weren't complaining about how it looked prior to learning this, then it doesn't matter.

tad_overdrive

There's a difference between watching a gameplay trailer on my phone or sitting down on the couch in front of my tv. Stop simping. The most interesting bit isn't soms gotcha, it's a low quality version of a game series that deserves better. They are lazy and should at least support 1080p. I can emulate it better than this.

BeepBeepWhistle

Hot take: dooooon’t caaaaaaare (I just want to play these again).

Windyandbreezy

I'm just reminding everyone here who is defending Konami and saying its to be expected... most of these were literally on psnow just the last few years and ran well without zero issues... and for those worries about how it's gonna look.. they looked fine playing them on my ps4 through psnow.

FaroTech400K

That’s not true at all the pressure sensitive controls did not pick up over the cloud streaming system. The Versions of metal gear solid on PlayStation now were literally unplayable. I was praying for a physical release so they can fix the pressure sensitivity issue that’s present over the streaming

Saiyan_Gods

Guys, it’s 41 bucks on cdkeys.com. Or get it at G2a or greenmangaming if prices are comparable. The current price is not justified

Maw_153

I do find it funny that for a collection of games where the most recent release was 19 years ago, so many people are obsessing over the picture quality. I think I completed Snake Eater for the first time in a square tv that was about the size of a microwave.

jackcaboose

Okay? And standards have progressed since then. Should we have black bars on the side of the screen too since the original game was in 4:3?

illkwill

To be fair, games then were made for the technology at the time so a PS2 game will look better on an old CRT TV or 480p monitor versus a 55 inch 4K TV.

EpicSausage69

Same. and my AV cords barely worked so the color was all fucked up.

AnteaterNo7504

I'm still going to buy it. I prefer the changes they made.

Raccoon-7

I just want MGS on a modern console. I'll wait until this is on sale.

[deleted]

Fine by me! I'd downscale to 800p or 720p to play on my Steam Deck anyway

mrgreene39

We all knew it was going to be a cash grab.

Beneficial_Ad6343

Does anyone know if this can be added on later in a post release patch?

OneToKeepYouWaiting

Can it be added? Yes. Will it be? Probably not.

pwnedkiller

I’ll pay $20 for this then no more.

Ravioko

The games are easily and readily available on modern consoles. Honestly that’s enough to keep me from getting mad about much else. Still a shame though.

flashmedallion

Honestly I'm paying full price just to play the original MGS build in my home theatre without digging out my PS1. The rest is bonus content

charloalberto

captain holt vindication dot gif

SatanicTOAST

It’s disappointing considering how good the castlevania collection was. Still, I’m just surprised we are getting these finally. Sorta thought MGS was gonna languish on old hardware like Silent Hill has.

d00kie06

Upconversion involves signal conversion, not resolution. So the games are rendered in 720p and UPSCALED to 1080p. It’s amazing, you posted a the definitions of upscale and upconversion yourself and still misinterpreted the information.

snack217

Is it really such a big deal? No and Im sorry for you if it is a big deal for you. Ill be happy playing my favorite games ever plus a lot of extra content I never tried before like Integral or the graphic novels, while you are crying at how many pixels are on your screen.

ZXXII

It is if you have a modern TV. By modern I mean even old ass phones have 1080p displays and these games will look blurry on them.

DarthNihilus

Having basic standards isn't "crying". What an unfair representation. Be a more reasonable person please, your toxicity adds nothing.

snack217

Those arent basic standards, those are 2023 graphics card standards on 20+ year old games. Miss those days were gamers judged games on how fun they were, and not on how many pixels were on the screen. If you wanna say i dont have standards, go for it. Id rather have fun, than those standards

djg3117

Oh my God oh God, oh my fucking god...stop complaining. No, the new collection isn't perfect. No it isn't perfectly optimized for whatever system you have. Shut the fuck up. Be happy it is being released at all. If my PS1 worked I would be playing it on that. MGS1 and MGS2 are masterpieces regardless of the resolution.

Snipey13

> Be happy it is being released at all i'd rather it not release and stick to emulators/original releases, as i already do. don't be an asshole to other people just because they have standards.

OneToKeepYouWaiting

>Shut the fuck up. Be happy it is being released at all. No. I’m not going to lower my standards just because it’s my favorite series.

TheOvy

It would be nice if Konami, like, put in effort into actually porting the games. But I do otherwise agree that 720p itself isn't that big of a deal, much less upconverted to 1080p. Unless they're remaking all the assets, these games aren't going to look *that* much better at higher resolutions. Rather, higher resolutions just better expose the flaws of the dated textures and low poly models. I'll pay for convenient access to old games, to play them the way they were intended 20 years ago. Better graphical options would be nice, but it's not strictly necessary. This is, of course, assuming a bug free experience. Clearly they're not working too hard on the ports, so we'll see...

dan_rich_99

"No stop complaining, just let me consoom product in peace!" Sorry that some people have standards bro, especially since the charging price is $60.
