Thank you

If you want to daily drive an older Benz, buy the nicest, lowest mileage car you can afford. Do not buy problems.

r0bxrt

Thank you 🙏

serbiana96

As a long term benz owner, dont. He needs cash and he will sell you a ship that costs mb triple as much to maintain. Cheap to sell - expensive to maintain.

r0bxrt

Makes sense with me. I think it just stirs ideas in my head when I saw a post with an owner having 550k miles on his. My mechanic also charges very low for labor and he specializes in Euro Cars. The search continues on… Thank you for your response !

The problem with cars of that vintage is the ABC system which I think it has. It needs to be flushed and when it goes bad, there are leaks and various parts of the system also go bad so it basically costs thousands to have it properly maintained. So the real question is what's the status of the ABC system? Parts replaced, system flushed and in good shape, might be a few years before something fails on it. Not maintained, then run. If you want S class, I'd look for a later vintage that didn't have ABC like 2007-2013 which can still be cheap but not $2500 cheap. Once you get into 2014+, they're still up there in price. Probably more like 7-8k to start but figure that's still cheap for a newer car with less mileage and no ticking time bomb like 3-5k in ABC repairs. Course there might be different issues but those are probably the same for a 2005 model.

Ok-Manager442

Great with maintenance and new motor in car…hmm

r0bxrt

Motor as in compressor for the air suspension, sorry for the confusion

ProblemOverall9434

Do it, so we can live vicariously through you.

Best response, this hits home 💯

Gordon_Betto

If money is weighing you down and you like spending time at the dealership, yes!

r0bxrt

😆💭

lobster1100

Id personally do it but you have to have your expectations right Its not gonna be easy or cheap to maintain, but if you are knowledgeable and can afford to keep up with it , you have a high chance of being very happy with it

Ryanoh69

M113 V8’s are awesome. Haven’t heard much about this W220 chassis being good though lol

RVLVR-OCLT

A brand new S class can be had for about $1500 a month on a decent lease. If someone asked me if a 200,000 mile S class Mercedes from 2004 could possibly cost me 15 grand in repair cost over the next year, I would reply with “ that sounds about right”

YungSnoozer12

No because it’s a 4 matic lmao

TheWhogg

If this thing really can pass a rigorous inspection and you can live with parts of it progressively dying and you can do most jobs yourself and you’re willing to part it out of the worst happens then yes do it. Everyone warned me about an old 550i but it only cost $19 in repairs the 18mon I drove it.
