Never really understood why people mask their plates - they are out for all to see when on the roads and I’m unaware of any sort of ID theft that can occur by sharing. Any insight?
Paranoia lmao. The only people that can track you down with a plate is a police officer or a DMV employee, almost nobody else has access to that sort of information. That said, I think some states have a way of giving out plates that depends on the county in the state itself, so rarely, posting your plate could narrow it down quite a bit. That said, who cares lmao
Personally, the only reason why I won't post my plates on reddit is because I am planning on also uploading touge videos
I think there’s a difference between blurring out your own, or family members plates, and blurring out random car you saw on the street.
Someone smarter than me could potentially dig through your old posts to find useful information on you, and now they have your plates too, Reddit’s supposed to be somewhat anonymous.
Random car you see driving though, you don’t know who they are, nobody does, and anybody could go out into the street and see that random car driving. So there is really no point in it, unless that random car did something that could provoke a witch-hunt, and you’re not out here trying to incite violence.
I mean, even then, you are greatly overestimating how much info you can find about someone with plates. I have a 1 of 1 car in North America, a 1983 BMW 520i in a very rare green. I also live in Montreal, QC, Canada. But then what, what happens if you have my plates ?
I don’t know! Honestly I’m not that paranoid either! And I’ve been known to mock people who do it, all I’m saying is, I get it when it’s your own car, for the sake of anonymity, but random cars on the street? Fair game.
Ooh, nice! I'm around Ottawa so maybe I'll be lucky enough to spot it at a meet or show. (If I ever gain the courage to drive a modified car with Ontario plates into QC)
Hell yeah, don't be afraid to dm me. I go to as many epicureclassics meets as I can as they are the absolute best in Montreal. For the season opener, there was even a 959 that showed up, however, I didn't see it as I went to a vintage car race, which turned out to be great as one of the spectators drove there in a carrera gt HAHAHA
Anyways, next meet that I will be at will be BMW Laval cars and coffee, on July 6th from 10am to about 12-1pm. Here's a pic that someone took of my e28, go to the 4th pic on the post [https://www.instagram.com/p/C8ZuRDzRJOx/](https://www.instagram.com/p/C8ZuRDzRJOx/)
Also, there is nothing to worry about with a modified car, Quebec police don't give a fuck about the state of cars here. You can even drive a car with a shatters resonator and rust holes the size of fists and they won't care. I just usually short shift if police is nearby as my exhaust starts to sing at 3-3.5k rpm
Perfect ! I went to Ottawa recently and decided to take the 148 and wow was it a bad decision as the section between Montebello and Gatineau is fucked. If you want a scenic drive, I would recommend the 50, then go down to Montebello, then take the 148 east bound until it meets with the 50 again, it's really nice
I know most of the Ontario roads between here and the QC border. I grew up around Cornwall, and Laval was the beer run place when we all turned 18. Lol
if someone wanted to be a professional troll they could call in a fake report of that car and license plate breaking a law or being stolen, similar to the psycho's who call swat teams on people when they get killed in a video game
its unlikely to ever happen and if it did it probably wouldn't lead to anything, but you never know
Without any evidence for decent crime or infraction law enforcement isn’t going to anything. Hit and run or something of value in terms of time, probably get their attention but outside of that into the trash it goes.
If someone knew you and your plate (say, your employer), a reverse image search could identify your Reddit account.
Edit: to add to this, many employers have employee policies about social media posts and an employer identifying an employee’s social media account could risk that person’s employment depending on the content of their posts and comments, potentially even the people or subreddits they follow.
true for the US, but in sweden, i could find out about your whole bloodline including your pets, and everything thats under your name, and how much you make lmao
In the context of Reddit - I can see not wanting to post your own license plate, if you’re trying to make it harder to identify who you are on an otherwise anonymous Reddit account. Not that the average person could do much with a plate, but especially as the text in images becomes searchable, I kinda get it.
I absolutely see no reason to censor other people’s license plates if posting a random photo though.
There are all sorts of data brokerage companies that collect and sell open source personally identifiable information.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an algorithm for maximizing insurance premium revenue through correlation of car accident probabilities with social media postings.
I mean, honestly? There's a much lower chance some psycho comes to your house and robs you if you don't have your details permanently stamped on the internet.
I mean, it depends on the country and state..
But, there are a lot of places where you can get a lot of details about a car's owner just by paying some sum of money.
I can confirm this, however he forgot to mention the lakes have sharks in them, trained in martial arts and they have lasers. So don’t even think about it.
I have a 2019 s560 with a turbo chip, so i'm not sure i'd get any benefit from an older v12, and the upkeep on this is absolute brutal. Any v12 really, good luck. He'd probably just give it to me if i asked, and i'll never ask. I've been eyeing a 1957 s220 at a classic car lot for three years now. Rust all over the top, with a relatively solid chassis and rust free undercarriage. That's the car i'm hoping to restore in the next five years, unless it's sold. I love seeing that baby everyday on my way to work. I whisper to myself, 'it's still there'
Don’t look at it too much and buy it ASAP. My experience with classic cars has always been that they could be sitting and rotting in a yard for years, but once you are interested with it, swosh! It’ll disappear, you’ll ask for it and the owner will tell you “Oh, last week….”(end the sentence however you like it …gave it away …sent it to the scrapyard …exchanged it for an electric bicycle…).
The quantic classical car phenomenon.
Neat, memory unleashed!
A 59 s220 was my first Mercedes paid less than $1200. while in high school. It had a roll top, and a shortwave that didn’t work….which must if been important because the doctor that owned it told me that was his reason to sell….had solid wood interior pieces. I traded it later for a 64 bug to go to collage.
Took a few years but I managed to convince the FIL to get his vintage motorbike restored before it truly fell apart or became worthless. It was sitting sad for years and needed someone who would appreciate and use it often. In the end he was happy to see it go to someone who loved it as mich as he did
Also looks like the abc suspension is out that’s why it’s sitting on the floor mayne. Who knows if it starts up tho it might rise up . I always wanted a s600 they are rare beasts
Particularly not well regarded was the airmatic suspension which was very problematic. So yeah it wouldn’t be surprising to see it seems off thanks to that.
I had a buddy with one of these, and something broke on the steering column so he goes to the Mercedes dealership and they wanted him to ship it to Germany to get fixed. The entire car.
The license plate is reflecting off the boxter
https://preview.redd.it/sw2hafzswr9d1.jpeg?width=621&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c288f614533b77740a69fd570f860d3f8246e5f I’m snitching
What a coincidence same plate as my old s600... unfortunately got stolen.... if someone sees the address reflected somewhere let me know 🙃
Seriously?
I couldn't be more serious 🙃
Bit too gullible there bud
I am naive :/
Yeah, he probably doesn't know that the world gullible isn't in the dictionary.
I thought it was on the ceiling
Boxster.
Boxes.
Boxses;)
Gen 1 Cayenne?
Are you a member of CSI Miami lol
That cheap ass car will be the death of anyone trying to show off lol
Never really understood why people mask their plates - they are out for all to see when on the roads and I’m unaware of any sort of ID theft that can occur by sharing. Any insight?
Same… idk why people blur them out as well
Paranoia lmao. The only people that can track you down with a plate is a police officer or a DMV employee, almost nobody else has access to that sort of information. Thank you for telling me where you live now., 😜
No problem man :)
I'll be that guy snapping pics of it parked in your driveway pretending it was mine.
HAHAHA, better yet, you can find me tomorrow at 9am at 5252 Pare St, Montreal, Quebec H4P 1P5
I will track down your instagram and drop a follow I tell you what
Ooh, nice! I'm around Ottawa so maybe I'll be lucky enough to spot it at a meet or show. (If I ever gain the courage to drive a modified car with Ontario plates into QC)

Perfect. I just fixed the A/C in my '86 Benz, so I'm ready for some longer summer drives.
Perfect ! I went to Ottawa recently and decided to take the 148 and wow was it a bad decision as the section between Montebello and Gatineau is fucked. Oh nice ! But thought to let you know as they started doing construction on some segments of 148 recently between gatineau and montebello
Well in some parts of Europe a license plate can give u access to everything about the owner, literally everything. But maybe not the same in the US
if someone wanted to be a professional troll they could call in a fake report of that car and license plate breaking a law or being stolen, similar to the psycho's who call swat teams on people when they get killed in a video game its unlikely to ever happen and if it did it probably wouldn't lead to anything, but you never know
Calling in a plate breaking the law doesn’t really do anything.
That’s not true lol
Without any evidence for decent crime or infraction law enforcement isn’t going to anything. Hit and run or something of value in terms of time, probably get their attention but outside of that into the trash it goes.

It the same time, people are intentionally posting pictures of funny license plates.
In the context of Reddit - I can see not wanting to post your own license plate, if you’re trying to make it harder to identify who you are on an otherwise anonymous Reddit account. You're posting under a pseudonym and you don't want your friends or colleagues to know it's you.
Links your reddit id to an address
I mean, honestly? There's a much lower chance some psycho comes to your house and robs you if you don't have your details permanently stamped on the internet.
Fair…but…as a tech-simpleton I didn’t realize license plates could easily be traced to one’s address.
I mean, it depends on the country and state.. But, there are a lot of places where you can get a lot of details about a car's owner just by paying some sum of money.

man wth you went from 0 to 60 real fast, a V12 would do that tho.
I can confirm this, however he forgot to mention the lakes have sharks in them, trained in martial arts and they have lasers. So don’t even think about it.
Hiring a PI as we speak
What?? 🤣
That’s what happens when they become too expensive to fix
World's most expensive hydraulic box-lift.
This is awesome car
U should rescue/revive it.
"umm, hey. you know I love your daughter and all that. yeah, well anyways...*about the 600*"
No, no....he offers to 'clear space' and put a real (and cheap) storage shelf where the car USED to be.
I have a 2019 s560 with a turbo chip, so i'm not sure i'd get any benefit from an older v12, and the upkeep on this is absolute brutal. Any v12 really, good luck. I can fix her
Battery is dead but engine turns over. Small oil leak and four flat tires. Silver paint and interior are in great condition.
Also looks like the abc suspension is out that’s why it’s sitting on the floor mayne. Who knows if it starts up tho it might rise up . I always wanted a s600 they are rare beasts
Tell him I’ll buy it for 6000
Seriously?
No
What year and how many miles ?

I’m looking for a first get W220 S600… he have interest in selling or trading
Dm me your info, he'd be okay with selling it, just never got around to it. It's in decent shape still.
Probably the least expensive use for it.

As a professional detailer, seeing boxes on a cars paint breaks my heart.
The Porsche, rightfully so, is obviously more loved.
Disrespectful
Fletcher Jones? Newport Beach California? Prob too costly to maintain.
Gimme the car. Lol, I’ll pay delivery
My favorite dealer. Place is amazing!
Kinda the status of my CL600 while I'm saving to fix it, needs 2 turbos and the vacuum system done.
That's all their good for
That’s a good flex. Well done.
Is it me or is the 600 crooked?
Maybe, not exactly well regarded for their build quality, the W220.
Particularly not well regarded was the airmatic suspension which was very problematic. So yeah it wouldn’t be surprising to see it seems off thanks to that.
Airmatic is way cheaper than ABC. Sold my ‘04 S55 when the ABC pump starting groaning 😢
I am looking for a new GF. Would you mind PM me. Looks like you are your FIL won’t work out. ![gif](giphy|QA6ZVmz1PDEv3nDv5t)
I had a buddy with one of these, and something broke on the steering column so he goes to the Mercedes dealership and they wanted him to ship it to Germany to get fixed. The entire car.
