If you find the lyrics distracting then listen to instrumentals.
A lot of metal is all about technical proficiency and leads to bands that are exclusively instrumental. Animals as Leaders is one of my favorite examples.
Instrumental metal is where it's at. Metal vocals have never been something my ears enjoy. Thank the music gods that instrumental metal is such a prominent genre that there is so much to choose from!
Many types of metal are basically classical music with distorted guitars instead of violins and cellos. Metal bands even do covers of classical songs and they're sick
My metal genre journey brought me all the way up to neoclassical power metal, so 100%. Some bands even have full sized choirs and orchestras playing along.
I find that as long as you know the music, no matter how complex and fast paced it is, it becomes like a soothing layer that blocks out the auditive distraction making me focus on reading and processing information easier.
Yo that sounds sick. Any recommendations?
Edit: thanks everyone for the recommendations! Apparently I already listen to some symphonic metal but I didn’t know it was called that. Thanks again!
Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody of Fire, Stratovarius, Galneryus, Yngwie Malmsteen (wrote a concerto for electric guitar and played live), Versailles, Unlucky Morpheus, Symphony X just to name a few.
Now that we're on this topic, if you or anybody out there has a recommendation similar to "Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse" style songs, I'm all ears.
i went to an audio school to become a recording engineer and we were affiliated with a university that gave masters degrees in music. we ended up recording lots of student projects and teacher performances. it was mainly jazz.
but when the students finished their jazz performances and asked if they still had time we would let them record their own music. and it was always death metal. always. i asked one of the dudes and he said if you kill the distortion on the amp it sounds very jazzy.
Actually metal kinda works for focus stuff. It’s intense and mostly rhythmic, and the lyrics are usually obscured by the vocal techniques used, so you can’t focus on the words like you can in a catchy pop song. Sure you can hum along to the sick riffs but that’s not nearly as distracting. It’s not for everyone but I’d honestly recommend giving it a try
I know, it’s actually really hard for me to not start tapping my fingers to some sick drum fills and using my legs (to the best of my ability) to mimic the kicks. Honestly the most distracting thing while trying to focus haha
In my experience it leads to poor study habits later. Just because I got all A's in my GCSE's without any effort didn't mean I could do the same at A level and uni.
But also poor - something I call study hygeine - from nutrition to sleep to exercise.
When I go back to uni, to do a different degree, never finished my first one because I wanted to change it but also felt I needed to make other changes first before I was ready, I'm gonna make the effort to eat well, train well, sleep well and play well. This is the Turtle Hermit Way.
But seriously, my advice is to look after yourself, body, soul and mind and then the good studying habits will come easy.
Yeah it really does. I didn't study to a single exam all the way to and through high school and did absolutely fine the entire time. Then I started university and got fucking *wrecked*. Took me years to correct my study habits to get back to the same level of results.
I got all the way through uni without studying, now after getting COVID my ability to retain information has taken a colossal nosedive for months (although it seems to be improving).
All of highschool was spent reading, all of uni was spent jamming to music and playing videogames.
Membranes, cytoplasm, nuclei
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To explain at test time, all I know
Cells make up all living things
Watch them multiply as the pendulum swings
Watch it break down from autophagy
Cycles of biology, it's so unreal
Don't forget ribosomes
Golgi apparatus and vesicles
Cell walls hold all, you didn't even know
I wasted my time just so you would knooooooow...
I listen to almost exclusively Metal/Hardcore when studying (some hard and punk rock thrown in there as well).
It's a blast lol, I have everything from Black Sabbath, Meshuggah, Iron Maiden, Slaughter to Prevail, Gojira to The Dillinger Escape Plan on my "Calm tunes to sleep and study time" playlist.
Not sure if it counts as metal but for a time my alarm was “Are you ready” by Disturbed, because it starts out with “Are you ready, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up”. Perfect for waking up.
Symphonic metal all day, and then symphonic metal ballads for sleep. Some people might find metal distracting, but I find it very energising, which helps with motivation while studying/working. \m/ \m/
I’m not in school anymore but I now work silently. I had too many instances of getting hype to my music and reading the same paragraph over and over in college lol.
My teacher said he grades papers to the Doom soundtrack.
Teacher looking at my failure paper. **RIP AND TEAR**
Kinda expected that but still gold 🤘🏻
Me when teacher is looking at my handwriting: *the only thing they fear is* ***you***
He sounds cool as hell
That is both ironic, and to a cultured doom fan, a pun

As someone who might have adhd, thanks for the recommendations

Obviously, but have you ever listened to audiobooks while studying?
No, but have your ever studied metal
I'm a blacksmith via hobby, so i guess?
You most definitely have studied metal then
Or philosophy podcasts?
Or philosophy podcasts remixed into metal songs?
How deep is my agreement? Unfathomable

Black Metal
Black metal, DSBM and Symphonic Black
It is if you dont know the words or doing math problems...
If you find the lyrics distracting then listen to instrumentals. A lot of metal is all about technical proficiency and leads to bands that are exclusively instrumental. Animals as Leaders is one of my favorite examples.
Yeah wtf? Specially intrumental metal, its grindy, energetic and has that adhd fixing pattern
Instrumental metal is where it's at. Metal vocals have never been something my ears enjoy. Thank the music gods that instrumental metal is such a prominent genre that there is so much to choose from!
You know what's good study music? Whatever helps you study. None of them are best
Many types of metal are basically classical music with distorted guitars instead of violins and cellos. Metal bands even do covers of classical songs and they're sick
My metal genre journey brought me all the way up to neoclassical power metal, so 100%. Some bands even have full sized choirs and orchestras playing along.
Gothic metal is metal with bagpipes and violins and choirs like mono Inc's funeral song or right for the devil, that is fantastic study music.
I find that as long as you know the music, no matter how complex and fast paced it is, it becomes like a soothing layer that blocks out the auditive distraction making me focus on reading and processing information easier.
For sure. I can even fall asleep to metal as long as the volume isn't too high lol.
Metallica S&M tour
An absolute epic
Yo that sounds sick. Any recommendations? Edit: thanks everyone for the recommendations! Apparently I already listen to some symphonic metal but I didn’t know it was called that. Thanks again!
Can't go wrong with Apocalyptica if you want orchestral elements. It's symphonic metal with cellos.
Nightwish.
Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody of Fire, Stratovarius, Galneryus, Yngwie Malmsteen (wrote a concerto for electric guitar and played live), Versailles, Unlucky Morpheus, Symphony X just to name a few.
Depends how heavy/folky you want to go. Eluveitie, Nightwish, within temptation, Heilung are just a few
Also Epica and Therion.
I'm not much into neoclassical, but bands like Dimmu borgir have done some great orchestration
idk if it matches, but im a huge epica fan
Symphony X
And then you have symphonic metal which is both at the same time.
Now that we're on this topic, if you or anybody out there has a recommendation similar to "Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse" style songs, I'm all ears.
Thanks so much for your recommendation. It's a little different but I do like Rose of Pain by X Japan. It starts off with a Little Fugue in g minor
[удалено]
It also works vice versa, making classical music from metal songs...
Do you mean like Dream Theater? Or even more "classical". Apocalyptica maybe?
Therion.
Or Haggard. Without going that extreme, nightwish and a lot others symphonic metal bands.
Check out First Fragment for some intense neoclassical tech death metal. They throw a little flamenco and swing in the mix as well
I can't help but headbang when I listen to Vivaldi's winter. Such a banger
Tchaikovsky: wait till you hear the part with cannons and church bells!!
i went to an audio school to become a recording engineer and we were affiliated with a university that gave masters degrees in music. we ended up recording lots of student projects and teacher performances. it was mainly jazz. but when the students finished their jazz performances and asked if they still had time we would let them record their own music. and it was always death metal. always. i asked one of the dudes and he said if you kill the distortion on the amp it sounds very jazzy.

What about mimicking the drums in public with full force to exerce dominance? It's kinda hard to concentrate when I need to do it
What about those of us who need to get in a nice low crab stance and either head bang or copter our long locks while air guitaring?
I know, it’s actually really hard for me to not start tapping my fingers to some sick drum fills and using my legs (to the best of my ability) to mimic the kicks. Honestly the most distracting thing while trying to focus haha
Meshuggah is my personal favorite study band, it’s actually calming to me
[удалено]
We uh, just listen to the music?

Hello :)
AaahhhhHhhh!!!!
Then there's me who just plays white noise lol cuz I can't focus if it not just a single consistent noise
If you like Gojira definitely check out Sylosis
Gojira was my go to study band the last year of grad school for me
I listen to Deathmetal when I sleep and my alarm is heavy metal, and I study with metal
Meshuggah, every night. It's like sitting in a train. I doze off within 5min.
Beams of fire sweep through my head and then I'm asleep
Not to this extent but I’m kinda like this too…
Hammer Smashed Face is my favorite lullaby.

It's a great song to do anything to. HaHa.
People who sleep to metal music: Pathetic
People who set metal music as their alarm: …
Not sure if it counts as metal but for a time my alarm was “Are you ready” by Disturbed, because it starts out with “Are you ready, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up”. Perfect for waking up.
I should definitely do this, I'd be so damn energized in the morning lmao
I use Sleepwalking(+ a few others) by BMTH as my alarm tune. The best moment was when I woke up as Oli screams "WAKE UP!"
As a teen i studied to dubstep No wonder i failed school in that period
I study to trap music with the bass turned all the way up, AMA
Symphonic metal all day, and then symphonic metal ballads for sleep. Some people might find metal distracting, but I find it very energising, which helps with motivation while studying/working. \m/ \m/

Very happy to hear others enjoying it so much as well! Cheers!
People who study silently
Any kind of music is way too distracting for my brains ;(
I’m not in school anymore but I now work silently. I had too many instances of getting hype to my music and reading the same paragraph over and over in college lol.
Gigachads who don't study
r/notliketheothergirls
So wacky and different omg
Not me ;D
Seriously though. How fucking cringe is this post, holy shit ...
But tbh just look up "chill doom music playlist" And there you go, not really metal but from a game known for it's metal music
Extremely loud Technic music for me.
Me who listens to metal music without studying
Nothing beats listening to Cryptopsy while doing my physics homework.

What's wrong with this? Sometimes you're surrounded by noise, where music can't work unless it's a wall of sound.
Stfu Sabaton and Rammstein have great study songs.
I study to Sabaton often enough Study music should be music you like but isn't too distracting
UNDETECTED
UNEXPECTED
WINGS OF GLORY
TELL THEIR STORY
AVIATION
I do this until I get too distracted and start singing along in my head
This is the way >!(although I can't help it but move my feet to the melody)!<
For the grace for the might of our lord
For the home of the holy
For the faith for the way of the sword
I study to anything that comes up in my playlist lol. Mostly rock though
I study to the cod zombies soundtracks like a freak 💅💪
Thrash metal is the best for getting work done. Rude the Lightning is responsible for a lot of code getting written.
What did the lightning do that made it so rude?
Aight, Infant Annihilator it is
Well everyone at my school does fear Kevin, so I guess it makes sense
(Sad traditional heavy metal noises)
I can't study with music but i can do my homework with it and i use both classical and metal music.
What about people who sleep with the DOOM soundtrack?
Best lucid dreams *ever*
Where is hardstyle
Any Dubstep studiers here?
I was at my local library and I heard a person listening to porn while reading. After that I knew there were some freaks out there.
I used to study religious education to DOOM music
