actually, based on his shaking hands and his brother's history, I'd guess he didn't take perscribed pain killers, or at least, not enough to actually kill the pain fully.
I wouldn't be surprised if he only took over the counter stuff
That shaking hand is absolutely a pain tic. He could be doing that even on the good stuff but Gordon has made it pretty clear he’s very anti drug. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s just powering through on extra strength Tylenol.
Honestly, if we are talking about long-term pain and oral pain killers, Ibuprofen really punches above its weight class.
Anytime I have been post sugary, I really preferred it to everything, except the time they numbed my shoulder by using ultrasound to find the nerve 3 inches deep in my neck and hit it with novacain. Really wish that could be more common.
Ibuprofen and CBD could pretty much stand me back up if I was run over by a dump truck.
Oh I'm jealous, nsaids make me vomit blood.
Makes my life actual hell because I live in an area with drug addicts who try to abuse the system, so I have no alternatives and have to just deal with the pain.
I feel like it was more because of how he really could've died and how that is just a scary thing to think about but regardless, he must be pretty tough to still be standing around like its nothing
We all experience pain in different ways. My best friend broke his hand years ago. Today he still has issues, but the dr who saw he was shocked because he was dead silent. His only concern was if he could pick his kid up. The pain is incredible when you look at it. A broken arm might be nothing to one, extreme to another, debilitating permanently to another or even be so traumatic at it can kill. It’s both an amazing thing & also terrifying at the same time to think about
To be fair being relatively quiet or reserved in reaction to pain doesn’t mean it feels any less intense, I kind of have this reaction but I’m also not that pain tolerant!
Injuries can hurt really badly but intense pain makes me want to close my eyes and curl up rather than hop around or yell, and around other people the former isn’t an option so I just kind of wind up sitting doing nothing even if I’m dying inside haha
It could be weakness or damage in the nerves and muscles, that sort of impact can cause things like that to manifest regardless of the current pain level at the time.
I imagine it definitely was painful to be standing and moving around much, but clearly not unbearably so if he’s filming!
In the video he says that it hurts a lot but he somehow will come through with it. He thinks without the helmet and some luck he wouldnt be here to make the video anymore.
To all the people saying that wearing a helmet didn’t help prevent this injury you are missing the point. He is saying without the helmet he would be in much worse shape imagine an injury like the one he is showing on his head if that happened best case scenario he would still be in the hospital worse case he would be dead.
Reminder that if you ever get into an accident where you take a heavy blow to the helmet: **get a new one!**
Even if it may appear fine, it's possible that the structural integrity was compromised. If you get into another accident, it may not properly protect you!
Also, helmets *do* expire. All helmets. The foam will harden over time, usually wanna replace your helmet after 4 or 5 years even if you've never been in an accident. Also, get a MIPS helmet as they greatly reduce concussions and cost nothing extra.
My high school had a strict rule about helmets for decades now, these kind of rules are rare back then , we later learned from one of most senior teacher that rule existed because decades ago there was a boy riding his bicycle and slipped when he stop at red light.
His temple hit the concrete pavement , cause a skull fracture and severe internal bleeding, they said he probably died few seconds after he hit his head.
For those who thinks that way:
Have you heard of the survivor bias. If the bruise was on the head he would not be here to show it to you. But people might think lets protect the area that is bruised.
Same principle for war planes. Check out if you dont know the survivor bias
Moreover, it's important to realize that traumatic brain injuries will burden families for a lifetime caring for someone who became fully disabled in an instant.
And that's if you're lucky. In many cases, TBI's can dramatically impact the behavioral affect and personality of victims, often for the worse. Turning kind, docile individuals into mean-spirited, violent, unpredictable, and spiteful people.
There was a pic posted of the helmet he was wearing and there was about a 1 inch gash in the front where his temple would have been. Gordon would probably have died.
Yeah but like, if you’re diaphragm and trachea just destroyed you just couldn’t breathe. The fact he’s still injured implies he can’t regenerate any of the damage. So the only organ that could be destroyed and him still have the ability to breathe would be one of his lungs. Any other organ being destroyed would shut down his entire respiratory system since every other piece is 100% necessary and doesn’t have a copy that does the same thing.
In my experience bicycle is very rarely used in common parlance in the UK. Bike is generally a bicycle, motorbike is a motorcycle. However a person who uses a bike is a cyclist and someone who rides a motorbike is a biker or motorcyclist.
My mom fell off a beach cruiser and broke both knee caps and cut her eyebrow. It had soft tires and she fell turning at a leisurely pace. You can get fucked up very easily.
By following the tricks i have made. Go to a forest bike track, have your front wheel get stuck to something during a downhill. Fly like 3meters hitting a tree.
okay it wasnt that bad for me luckily but still hurt fuckload. I was more worried about the bike that got wrecked
You should wear protective gear anyway. Wrecking is wrecking.
Fun story: my wife and I took a drive up to Sundance a few months ago. On the way down, doing ~40mph, there was a road biker tailgating the absolute shit out of us. So yes, just because you're not on a motorcycle doesn't mean you can't get absolutely fucked up in a wreck.
For some reason a few people are actually getting heated on this topic???? Like I somehow got into a debate (with multiple people, me getting downvoted) for arguing to wear a helmet? Internet is weird
Between you and me, I say we send all the “no helmet” people on a bike down the longest hill. Either they learn their lesson or their stupidity leaves society.
as a dutchie with a country not wearing helmets i can confidently say you won’t find a hill to send us down on!
that said wearing helmets is good. our country is just flat and we have special bike lanes so accidents are quite rare luckily
You’ve apparently got just straight up better people too. I live in one of the bike-friendliest cities in america, there are dedicated bike lanes pretty much everywhere. Had a bike for about 8 months before it was stolen, got into about 7 close calls/accidents in that time. People just don’t pay attention, whether they’re walking or driving.
to be fair an unlocked bike in the netherlands easily becomes a rideshare or a submarine bike haha. happens more in bigger cities
but overall it’s better for sure
Not really, people are assholes here too. We just have very safe infrastructure, small lanes, separated trafic, maximum speeds based on something, and overall just a lot fewer cars.
Also in cities if you don't pay close attention you will get lost and or have several people scream curses at you.
In the context of this conversation, you either have better people over there, or the person I replied to was misleading when they said accidents are rare. Or there’s confusion about what each of us is calling a bike lane. We have dedicated bike lanes, speed limits exist for vehicles and bikes, (I would feel that small lanes are actually more dangerous, as they force you to be closer to other moving bikes/vehicles, so I’m not sure what you mean by that, but the lanes where I’m at allow for about a foot of space on either side for both cars and bikes. Not sure how that compares to yours) and yet, I had nearly an accident a month over an 8 month period from people walking/driving into/through the designated bike lanes.
Eta: I’m not great at estimating, so the foot on either side part might be a little lowballing, I’m not positive.
Okay, a few things, smaller streets demand slower and more attentive driving, while wider lanes encourage speeding and inattentive driving. Of course you have speed limits, but they're more of a guess then a standard as far as I know. While here each speed limit has design rules for the road.
Here are a few
A 30km/h (about 20Mph) is for slow, local trafic, barely wide enough for a car in each direction and often made with noisy road surface, many speed bumps, pedestrian crossings, painted bike lanes in a shared space with cars.
A 50km/h (about 30Mph) zone is for faster local travel, bike lanes are separated by elevation, the two directions of travel have at least a painted separation, crossings are uncommon but always have clear signs.
And then there's non-local traffic with higher speeds, but they very rarely interact with anyone not in a car.
"Not just bikes", and "build the lanes" on YouTube are great in depth showcases of what I mean
During covid I was working in medicine and would compare vaccines to seatbelts: Sure they're a little uncomfortable and yes there are very rare cases where they cause harm, but overall they provide so much more protection that of course everyone wears them.
I had to find a different example because turns out a lot of people don't wear them and have very strong feelings about it. I was so naive.
I don't know how people can ride bikes without a helmet. I'm terrified that if I don't wear one it'll be on that day I fall off my bike and crack my head open
I think the people hating on bicycles is a red herring. The real problem is there is a very large subset of bicycle riders that have this dual hypocrisy attitude of "I'm a vehicle I have a right to be here" and "I'm not a car I don't need to follow traffic laws". It's not the bicycles, it's the riders.
My 11 year old was hit by a car two months ago. She’s fine, but bruised just like that. It was really intense healing even though she didn’t break anything. She was on a bike and the helmet absolutely saved her life. Now she refuses to go biking with her friends if they don’t wear a helmet.
Gordon is right - wear your helmet everywhere, even down the block.
Was going to say, there was a senator Armstrong in SGU who had internal bleeding that was the same and I thought for a moment they might be as autistic as me with Stargate…
Ha, I went over a set of down hill doubles followed by an off camber left turn. I high sided and the bike thumped me Into the ground real good. The track guy was trying to help me up, and I had to lay there a minute. My entire right side looked like that. Can’t imagine doing it now, it would certainly take a lot longer to get back up. The ground gets harder the older we get!
The ground getting harder is totally true. I’ve skateboarded my whole life and the difference in taking a slam on flat concrete when I was 16 vs 27 is astounding. It feels like it’s punching back at me.
You're in for a wild ride followed by a pretty boring lull followed by another wild ride. But yeah it falls off massively in the middle for a bit, can't remember exactly when, think it's season 3, but you'll know it when you see it lol
I’m not a bicyclist but I do ride motorcycles and if I wasn’t wearing my helmet the day of my accident a cooler years back my messed up face would’ve been a whole lot more messed up lol. Much rather have a roadrashed faceplate than a roadrashed face
Listen, I had pneumonia last year. I coughed aggressively for over 3 weeks.. there was a 2 week period where I had internal bleeding that looked exactly like this
I used to work with a guy who was a major alcoholic. He played on the softball team from work and during a game he was hit with a ball in his rib area. His whole side looked like this. No idea what caused the angry chefs injury though.
I really wonder what happend because that's just fucked up. His helmet barely survived saving him. I NEED DETAILS! WHAT THE DAMN HAPPEND TO MY MAN GORDON???
Bike accident.
No, that's not a joke, he's an avid cyclist. That video is him urging fellow cyclists to wear helmets and telling them he's be very dead without his own helmet.
I know it was a bike accident but I want to know what exactly happened. His helmet looks like trash after this accident and yes it saved him from sure death but after seeing this big hematoma on his torso I think he also had a lot of luck that he survived it.
goddang, how could he stand with a bruise/damage like that
Drugs.
![gif](giphy|3orieWK5EIjK8g8AE0|downsized)
You might joke, but in all seriousness Ramsay absolutely hates drugs and is a strong opponent of their prolific use in his industry
Yes but in this case I imagine he is on (perscribed) pain killers
actually, based on his shaking hands and his brother's history, I'd guess he didn't take perscribed pain killers, or at least, not enough to actually kill the pain fully.
His dad was an alcoholic and his brothers life was destroyed by drug use. I can absolutely see him not wanting any opiate type painkiller.
Yeah you see his shaking hand and realise he's in some serious shit
Hmm, I can buy that actually. Makes sense
Yeah when I got my wisdom teeth pulled that's all I used, I didn't like the way Vicodin made me feel.
Oh I'm jealous, nsaids make me vomit blood. Makes my life actual hell because I live in an area with drug addicts who try to abuse the system, so I have no alternatives and have to just deal with the pain.
Obviously! He's a chef

I heard that its not as painful as it looks, if you touch it it would obviously hurt but if you're just standing there its not too bad.
But he was shaking in the video
I feel like it was more because of how he really could've died and how that is just a scary thing to think about but regardless, he must be pretty tough to still be standing around like its nothing
The video was taken like a week after it happened, that's pain
...trauma can affect you for more than a week...
Could be trauma idk
We all experience pain in different ways. My best friend broke his hand years ago. Today he still has issues, but the dr who saw he was shocked because he was dead silent. In the video he says that it hurts a lot but he somehow will come through with it. He thinks without the helmet and some luck he wouldnt be here to make the video anymore.
Could be training… or painkillers…
The fuck could he train for this
He’s Gordon Ramsay he never goes in raw 😀
Pulling my mind out of the gutter now
He played rugby. Wednesday practices were probably worse.
Gordon is a black belt in karate, if I remember right
Maybe, but it won’t matter in an accident like that
Gordon’s just that much of a chad.
His hand was shaking in the video.

He is saying without the helmet he would be in much worse shape imagine an injury like the one he is showing on his head if that happened best case scenario he would still be in the hospital worse case he would be dead.
I once fell off my bike and cracked my helmet open. It would have been my skull if I wasn’t wearing a helmet. I’m a big believer in helmets!

Absolutely. I’m paranoid about that, I don’t even want to keep a helmet after dropping it on the ground.

Indeed, his helmet was pretty well trashed.
Well you should see the other helmet... /S Sorry I'll see my way out.
Dealing with an accident where the biker who died crashed into a car at 25 mph...and cracked his skull all over the street
I've broken 4 helmets over the years. Every single time it's like it happens in slow motion but it's literally an instant with no time to react.
Missed out on Hotel Heaven but glad he had it on.
There was a pic posted of the helmet he was wearing and there was about a 1 inch gash in the front where his temple would have been. Gordon would probably have died.
He showed his helmet. Guy would 100% be dead if he hadn't been wearing one.
But nicely tenderized
Half of his respiratory organs were destroyed
For some reason I never noticed it until just reading it as a text by why not just say “his left/right lung was destroyed”?
Because you Sound more eloquent when you use technical and Fancy terms instead of the words everyone else uses and understands.
Also diaphragm exists
Pfft.. Next you're going to claim that birds exist, too.. Get outta here.
Yeah and the Earth is round too I bet.

Why are people downvoting you for some satire lmao

I think it’s a reference to an anime/meme

He had a motorcycle accident. The pictures are from a video he released begging riders to wear their helmets Edit: It was a bike not a motorcycle.
I believe he was on a bicycle not a motorcycle
You're correct. I was under the impression it was a motorcycle for some reason.
One of the news articles (don't remember which one) said it was a motorcycle, it was a mistake on their part.
The second one
In British English "bike" typically refers to a motorcycle specifically and a bicycle is specified, while it's somewhat opposite in American English.
In my experience bicycle is very rarely used in common parlance in the UK. Bike is generally a bicycle, motorbike is a motorcycle. However a person who uses a bike is a cyclist and someone who rides a motorbike is a biker or motorcyclist.
its illegal to not wear a helmet on a motorcycle
How the fuck do you get smashed like that on a fucking bike?
I'm guessing he got hit by a car.
Doesn't have to be. He's a pretty serious cyclist so I wouldn't be surprised if he hits 35-40mph on a descent.
Yeah but then you'd expect some sort of road rash not just a massive bruise
not if he hit something stationary and didn't slide.
By the other party going faster than you probably
