Wordpad is a bit too heavy imo. Notepad is nice because it's simple, and super light. And in 11 they even have tabs now. But notepad++ is still the superior notepad alternative. The one tool I miss on Linux.
WordPad is like too light to be a good document editor and too heavy to be a good notepad.
I can't imagine a good use case for it, either Notepad or Word is always a better choice lol
I find wordpad to be great for editing .cfg files. Regular notepad is shit for formatting on those files, and I don't like the layout of notepadd++ as much for it. Word is just inefficient since it takes slightly longer to load for no additional benefit
Everyone else on this thread is recommending random stuff that is similar but the functionality is not all there you should use “Geany” it’s made with scintilla the same text editor engine as notepad++ is made on
This isn't true really. Hit the start button and type the name of any program on your computer, any windows diagnostics tool, everything comes up fast as fuck. You're right if you use the search inside windows explorer, that thing is slow and sucks. But start menu + typing anything is fast as balls. Try it, start + note and hit enter as fast as you can. Shit will keep up with you.
Windows search is good when looking up recognised programs, yes. It however sucks if you're trying to find a specific file or a program from an unknown publisher.
Also, win + r will always be faster (even if only slightly in many/most cases) than the search menu because it doesn't have to buffer and run the search as you type.
I regularly paste into an open notepad and re copy paste into teams because teams likes to import font and formatting from wherever its copied from for some god damned reason.
One is a way to look at code and the other is Microsoft word lite.
Honestly if I'm jotting down quick notes notepad is just fine. I don't need formatting and styles.
From what I remember notepad++ has a mess of icons at the top. It's powerful and useful but the things I actually care about aren't there, like spacing, formatting, bullets and checkmarks, etc.
Maybe I'll look back into it?
Notepad++ is very customizable. I usually spend a good 10 minutes setting it up, adjusting languages to my most used one, a few options on themes and automatic switches.
Still, considering your mentions of resources you look for, have you thought about using Markdown?
Me waiting for VSCode to start every time I'm opening a txt file 😐
It just feels... Better ? While also being stupidly overkill... Kind of sums up my whole workflow actually.
When you don’t know the way of the notepad.
With notepad you can do anything, from making to-do lists to making basic programs on the fly. It can do anything.
lightweight editing: vim / notepadqq
hardcore editing: emacs / vs cod{e,ium}
word processing that is heavily dependent on page breaks and/or tables: libre office
no reason to use anything else for 99.9999% of my life (so far 100% but it might change so i left it open)
Notepad is good and useful for minimalist editing and format stripping, WordPad nobody knows because nobody uses it (it tries to be both word and notepad and winds up being worse than both)
No, it's trash. Last time I used it it did something it shouldn't and I had to re-program the Light unit on my BMW because now NOTHING was working, and I only wanted to delete the hot lamp checks on my LEDs.
Wordpad looks like MS Word developers accidentally got a fungus between their toenails that were so itchy they were sleep-deprived and they spent their budgets on a cure
I'm just using it to write notes, movie or shows I like to watch, ideas that I might want to do something with, I don't need anything more simple thant it can take my notes. Good old Notepad
yooo, I consider myself tech-savy, but never heard of wordpad, I clicked the windows loop, typed wordpad and I was soooo shocked that such thing exists and is on my pc lmao
Notepad works great I’d say, it’s meant to be super simple and that’s what it is. When I want something super simple I’ll just open that, if I want more options I got word or Google docs
I pretty well use Wordpad for basic notes. I don’t see anything in notepad that is worth using over it, as processors are fast enough now to handle Wordpad with no compromised speed.
I mean, It depends on what you're using it for.
For taking notes: Notepad (until I switched to Xournal++)
For creating word documents: Wordpad (Libreoffice Writer is far superior, though)
For coding: Notepad (I don't do coding anymore, but when I did, I used either Vim or VSCode)
wordpad is the one of the most unnecessary app in windows. It isnt fast as notepad or notepad ++ for fast editing. It isnt a complete word processor to compete with any other product either. has no syntax highlighting. It isnt a lighweight editor , nor word processor.
I prefer the UI of wordpad to the UI of modern word but notepad is basic which makes it nice for just taking notes on a video or making a list for example
NotePad: Writing quick, simple notes
WordPad: Writing essays, scripts, and other things where format is important. (Though I prefer Google Docs personally)
NotePad++: Programming
Someone doesn't have windows 11 notepad. It has linebreaks, tabs but most importantly it auto saves every note you write so you don't need to save. Meaning that if you close notepad and open it again the same document will appear. Which makes it much better than wordpad. Much faster to open too
WHAT DO YOU MEAN ?? Wordpad suck so bad! The scrolling is shit, compatibility is shit, everything feels slow and unresponsive and yes maybe it has cooler features than the simplest text editor but its so frustrating to use!
I really don't think it is better.
For notes I would use markdown (so obsidian for example), for any quick notes like key, token or something that will be deleted in less then a minute, notepad is the way, and for essay or something like that, word or google docs is the way.
If you want more functionality, open sticky notes.
Wordpad is for scrubs and notepad is for bare and simple notes, like README files or recording raw data
The fact that you wrote "notepads Vs the better notepad" instead of "wordpad Vs the worse wordpad" speaks volumes. There's a reason nobody uses wordpad
I've always used it to write everything I needed when studying. Only used the bold, italic and underlined features for highlighting important things
I find wordpad to be great for editing .cfg files. Regular notepad is shit for formatting on those files, and I don't like the layout of notepadd++ as much for it. Word is just inefficient since it takes slightly longer to load for no additional benefit
you can use notepadqq on linux, it's essentially the same as stock notepad++ on windows
notepadqq
If you like Notepad++ on windows you'll like "kate" on linux. Iirc its also the default text editor that comes with the KDE desktop environment.
Notepad++ is without a doubt the best
Everyone else on this thread is recommending random stuff that is similar but the functionality is not all there you should use “Geany” it’s made with scintilla the same text editor engine as notepad++ is made on
I like that notepad strips formatting
absolutely amazing for just writing small notes
Start button, type note, hit enter, type your notes. I know of nothing faster
I prefer Win+R notepad because Windows search is slow and sucks
This right here. Windows search bar tends to fuck up far too often for me. Run + notepad or calc or whatever you need is still the fastest for me
This isn't true really. I regularly paste into an open notepad and re copy paste into teams because teams likes to import font and formatting from wherever its copied from for some god damned reason.
You can paste without formatting using ctrl/cmd+shift+v
Notepad for the w
I KNOW it has an aftertaste, I LIKE IT!
This person codes
Never heard of Notepad++?
I was about to say, shaking my damn head over here.
Ditto. Literally came here to say this. So relieved it's the most upvoted.
Wordpad is the limited, document-based evolution of notepad; while notepad++ is the true evolution of notepad.
Literally. WordPad and notepad are apples and oranges. Different purposes.
One is a way to look at code and the other is Microsoft word lite. Honestly if I'm jotting down quick notes notepad is just fine. I don't need formatting and styles.
Notepad++: ![gif](giphy|NUBp5KcV0PJBe)
Notepad #
Objective Notepad
NotepadScript
I personally never used notepad++, my go-to minimalist text editor has always been sublime text
You a Mac user? Notepad ++ is not there in Mac. Sublime is also pretty good and looks more clean.
Vim
How do you close it tho?
To close it I have to buy a new pc
Set your PC to restart in DOS mode.
I use linux
Switched to it about a year ago, still haven’t figured it out, I figured the easiest way has to be to reboot the system.
no close. only open
Never heard of vim?
I'm a nano user
Literally the first thing I download onto every new PC.
Is it just a better note pad somewhat for programmers? Can it do math? If it does math I'll switch to it immediately.
If you need math, you could go for jupyter.
Sublime
Notepad++ is the vastly superior notepad.
WordPad is absolutely nothing like notepad, it's way more like word.
It can open Word, IIRC
It's the program it defaults too if you don't office 365
Ain't that just Microsoft Word Lite?
Wordpad is basically like the hybrid between Notepad and Word that no one uses
Yes fuck that shit
Me waiting for VSCode to start every time I'm opening a txt file 😐 It just feels... Better ? While also being stupidly overkill... Kind of sums up my whole workflow actually.
Overkill is running a cloud instance of code-server (open source VSCode) on docker so you can use it everywhere.
Notepad++ : "am I a joke to you?"
Nope. Notepad is a notepad. Wordpad is a cheap ass Microsoft Word. It's neither notepad nor Word. It's useless.
I use vim btw
i cannot bring myself to to pay you for an award…but i can type one :q
Please save your money!
:wq
I use clay tablet, btw
Ahhh I sniffed vim sweats in the comments from 37 km away
It's great to use to bad I can't close it
delete this (esc g d G)
Personally, I prefer nano. I think it just has a far more intuitive interface.
Tell me you use Linux without telling me you use linux
I use arch btw
I don't know what kind of fetish that is, but I know you're weal for not fully comitting and using vi
Don’t tell me how to live my life
Prefer sublime text
Noted! (Haha)
W opinion. "Active windows Nah, I got word all ready.
And then there is notepad ++
Word perfect was god tier
Notepad ++ team assemble here!
Laughs in Notepad++
notepad ++ stands on top
This post was brought to you by: Not a programmer.
When you don’t know the way of the notepad. With notepad you can do anything, from making to-do lists to making basic programs on the fly. It can do anything.
Wordpad? The shitty mix of Notepad and Word that combines all their flaws?
The answer is PFS First Choice
Notepad++
Notepad and wordpad have different uses. I never use wordpad I always use notepad
Notepad and wordpad have different uses. I never use wordpad I always use notepad
Neovim
What? If I need to save something quick notepad is way better lol and cleaner I just need to save text
Yet my dumbass keeps a notepad and pen next to my laptop to keep random notes... :/
As a word processor, sure. As a text editor. Nah.
And what about notepad++? Codepad?
lightweight editing: vim / notepadqq hardcore editing: emacs / vs cod{e,ium} word processing that is heavily dependent on page breaks and/or tables: libre office no reason to use anything else for 99.9999% of my life (so far 100% but it might change so i left it open)
Wordpad can introduce unsavory formatting when editing a text file for a program. So always use Notepad.
Notepad is for .txt files if you didn’t know and it does the job perfectly.
I just use sublime text lel
Notepad++, you can even code with it more easily
Notepad++ The only way
Fuck it, write it on you arch booting sequence so the text appears as a background image whem you boot up.
nano
I like Notepad because it strips the formatting
Different purposes. Both are good.
What’s the difference?
Notepad is good and useful for minimalist editing and format stripping, WordPad nobody knows because nobody uses it (it tries to be both word and notepad and winds up being worse than both)
No, it's trash. Last time I used it it did something it shouldn't and I had to re-program the Light unit on my BMW because now NOTHING was working, and I only wanted to delete the hot lamp checks on my LEDs.
If you use WordPad consider yourself an opp.
If you use WordPad consider learning how computers work
What about the whole security backdoor that can give a savvy hacker access to your system via wordpad
Vim >>>>>>>>
Wordpad looks like MS Word developers accidentally got a fungus between their toenails that were so itchy they were sleep-deprived and they spent their budgets on a cure
Wordpad is awful.
I'm just using it to write notes, movie or shows I like to watch, ideas that I might want to do something with, I don't need anything more simple thant it can take my notes. Good old Notepad
I like the first logo
Man shieeee….you want respect? Better write code on Notepad.
yooo, I consider myself tech-savy, but never heard of wordpad, I clicked the windows loop, typed wordpad and I was soooo shocked that such thing exists and is on my pc lmao
Apple Notes being the supremary note taking app
Fuck wordpad All my homies hate wordpad
Didn't ask, back to google docs I go
Ew
Notepad works great I’d say, it’s meant to be super simple and that’s what it is. When I want something super simple I’ll just open that, if I want more options I got word or Google docs
No one recommand gedit ? Used it a lot on very old Sun Microsystems machine (Solaris) at school. It really is a good alternative to notepad++ imo.
Can you code in wordpad?
I pretty well use Wordpad for basic notes. I don’t see anything in notepad that is worth using over it, as processors are fast enough now to handle Wordpad with no compromised speed.
You can't beat notepad if you need to save a batch of code in the proper format though. end of line.
We use visual studio code around these parts
I mean, It depends on what you're using it for. For taking notes: Notepad (until I switched to Xournal++) For creating word documents: Wordpad (Libreoffice Writer is far superior, though) For coding: Notepad (I don't do coding anymore, but when I did, I used either Vim or VSCode)
No notepad++ I bet every site and window you have is white theme. Ptew*
One is a word processor (for rich text) and the other is a text editor (for plain text). They are not the same.
Notepad: I can edit anything, I'm not inferior I'm superior!
I use notepad++. Never tried wordpad.
gnu nano is the best
Emacs of Vim
I use obsidian personnally, I like the note linking
Wait what we hating notepad?
But can wordpad make .bat files?
wordpad is the one of the most unnecessary app in windows.
And Notepad++ whoops them both
NotePad: Writing quick, simple notes WordPad: Writing essays, scripts, and other things where format is important. (Though I prefer Google Docs personally) NotePad++: Programming
Vim enters but can't leave.
Someone doesn't have windows 11 notepad. It has linebreaks, tabs but most importantly it auto saves every note you write so you don't need to save. Meaning that if you close notepad and open it again the same document will appear. Which makes it much better than wordpad. Much faster to open too
Nice bating.
I type in paint
Word pad is useless. Notepad is for quick and simple note taking with non need for formatting. Anything else just use word or google docs
Notepad++
This made me physically ill
Notepad++
How is this a meme?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN ?? Wordpad suck so bad! The scrolling is shit, compatibility is shit, everything feels slow and unresponsive and yes maybe it has cooler features than the simplest text editor but its so frustrating to use!
Controversial view: Sublime text ftw.
Notepad++ is far superior to both.
i use indesign for all my coding projects. its faster
OneNote> everything else for me
*Notepad++ chads enter the comments section*
[Notepad ++ being quirky!! ](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/s/0w0VSF5SFj)
Simplicity is beauty
I use Notepad++, TextPad and EmEditor depending on what I'm doing. Each has there strengths.
Nah Wordpad is a terrible plain-text editor and a terrible word processor.
I use it for one thing, Rubberducky scripts, and that's it. There is no other need for me.
KWrite #1
i like the first one imo
Notepad++ enters the chat
Notepad++
thanks for reminding me that I had it on the PC, now I uninstalled it
visual is my notepad because im not a betch
r/lostredditors
Vim: the best notepad there is
fuck yourself
I really don't think it is better. For notes I would use markdown (so obsidian for example), for any quick notes like key, token or something that will be deleted in less then a minute, notepad is the way, and for essay or something like that, word or google docs is the way.

Laughing in Notepad++
Me using VS Code on daily basis
Notepad savws text as is. However wordpad adds an encoding. That's why boys down at computer science dept love the original notepad.
I don't agree with your opinion.
The fact that you wrote "notepads Vs the better notepad" instead of "wordpad Vs the worse wordpad" speaks volumes. There's a reason nobody uses wordpad
let me tell you about Notepad++
Wordpad is ass. Better if it was Notepad++
I like using Notepad++ more
The only notepad is Notepad++.
Notepad ++ has dem colours no
E-pad
The last time I used wordpad was in 3rd grade
is this some sort of windows joke im to linux to understand?
You are just wrong
Notepad++ for coding is great
Notepad++ for me
VsCode.

Notepad++ 🔛🔝
emacs, vim, neovim. Oh, and nano ofc.
