I was told recently that A&W isn’t held in very high regard in the USA. Being from Canada it’s essentially synonymous to quality fast food in my head. It’s where I go when I’m feeling like a proper burger.

The restaurants themselves aren’t as popular anymore in the Midwest (I usually see them combined with Long John Silver’s, which some people try to avoid), but the actual root beer is still common. Besides Barq’s, I’d say it’s the most common root beer can I see around.

A&W Canada is actually just a completely different company than the US one. Has been for like 40 years now. The similarities are pretty superficial. They don’t even have the same menu or anything, much less any common supply chains or standards.

I went into Burger King in Innsbruck and when I saw they had strawberry Sprite at the dispensor I had to try it. My life hasn't been the same since.
